All the little details that make people think AW2 Tom Zane is AWAN Mr. Scratch:

The Happy Song

This one is pretty obvious. It's Mr. Scratch's "theme song" in AWAN. But we can also hear it in AW2, when Alan meets Zane in Room 665.

The dance

Zane and Mr. Scratch do the same dance during that song.

General similarity of manners

These are just a few small details, but they really make you question things and give you a sense of déjà vu.

They also both do "Are you not entertained?" pose quite often. 😅

The ring

They both have a wedding ring. And I'm not sure if Zane and Barbara were actually married. In game they just say that Barbara and him were a couple, or that she was his partner/muse, but I don't think anyone calls her his wife (?) 🤔 (Correct me if I'm wrong, I still haven't done a proper research on this).

Writing abilities (this one is purely my opinion)

It's heavily implied that AWAN's Mr. Scratch can't write. He took "all the best parts" of Alan aka all his negative personality traits, so it would make sense that writing ability wasn't part of the package. 😁 We don't see him writing... or talking about writing. And he literally kidnaps Sam Lake to do all the dirty work for him. 👌

The same can be applied to AW2 Zane. If the real Zane brought back evil Barbara, helped Alan (with his writing) in the first game, created Mr. Scratch… Then why does he need Alan or Scratch to finish Return? This also brings us to There are multiple Zanes theory...

The glitching

Every time Alan mentions Mr. Scratch, Zane is visibly "glitching" and then subtly avoids the subject.

Zane being sus

He knows too much. Literally. He seems to know everything and, more importantly, remembers everything. We can see a few moments were Zane's mask is slipping...

P.s. this post was created for entertainment purposes. ✌️ I'm not actually saying I believe this theory 100%, but there is definitely something wrong with AW2 Zane.

So maybe some sympathetic magic will mix with transatlantic currents? In the spirit of hallowing via cleansing flame, you might notice that this site has been updated with a more modern theme. Ryan "The Inspector" Barette

Foreigner (American) - They/Them - early 20's - Transfer Student

A civilian from overseas who wound up entangled in Darkwick's seedy underbelly by freak accident. Now they've been tasked with watching over the schools' colorful cast of ghouls - aided by the mysterious enhancement ability of their ring. They're cursed to turn into an anomaly in one years time. Ryan is a generally soft-spoken and socially awkward person, almost constantly forced out of their comfort zone. They generally try to give everyone around them the benefit of the doubt. However, the current countdown clock on their lifespan has taken the form of a kind of 'fuck it, we ball' attitude on life. Now they're open to trying pretty much anything once. Eating an anomaly? Sure. Getting injected with dubious chemicals? Why not. Picking fights with people twice their size? Eh, I'm dying anyway. Who cares. They're polite, not a pushover. You know what they say - a cornered animal will do anything it has to to escape.

Misc notes:

The mark of the curse takes the form of a sleeve tattoo on their left forearm. It gradually spreads across their body the longer the curse goes uncured.

They have a nervous laughter tick and are prone to making jokes in awkward or dangerous situations in an attempt to lighten the mood.

Before coming to Darkwick, they were an unemployed artist going through a personal slump. When asked, however, they tend to lie about their past life to sound less pathetic.

They're good with their hands and have experience with welding and woodworking. They often borrow tools from Vagastrom in an attempt to patch the broken holes in their dorm room. Sometimes they fix personal items the ghouls break during missions.

Ryan's past, besides some small details, is mostly a mystery to the other ghouls. They tend to describe themself as a 'not particularly interesting' person before attending the academy. They also are prone to deflecting personal questions. Before the events of Darkwick, they were professionally diagnosed with suicidal depression. If not for the concern of the people around them, they would have probably just let the curse kill them naturally.

THAT BEING SAID THE BANDAIDS AREN'T SELF HARM SCARS! They're prone to injuring themself in weird and stupid ways pretty much constantly. Zero sense of self preservation. They always have at least 4 of these stuck to them at all times.

Basically imagine like... if the MC wasn't nearly as much of a pushover. Like if they were kind of a pushover but every day they are gradually getting closer to their limit. One day they will snap and bite someone for real.

(Wheel is just to show how they will likely interact with other canon characters. Relationships between muses are likely to change naturally or can be planned out in advance otherwise. Don't feel obligated play off Ryan in a certain way just because of the chart)

Greed 7: is your muse prone to shopping sprees? if so, what do they usually indulge in buying?

Evie: Is VERY prone to shopping sprees. Do not let her into any mall without supervision, or at least not into any stores that sell scented/aromatherapy bath/care products, embellished stickers, or cute little plushies of anything.

Alan: Is VERY prone to shopping sprees. Will clean out the women’s clothing/accessories sections of any store in seconds flat (well, not actually seconds flat, he does have to try stuff on).

Samara: Is not highly prone to excessive shopping, but does have a weakness to anything rainbow-themed.

Greed 10: would your muse steal anything?

Well, all 3 of them have stolen Hearst's Spirit Stick, albeit as a revenge prank. But discounting that…

Evie: No, but if she finds a tiny little trinket lying on the ground, she might pocket it for herself.

Alan: No, unless there is some form of injustice that is preventing him from acquiring said thing. For instance, although in my headcanons the school does allow him to wear the girls cheer uniform, hypothetically if they did not and him screaming and raging at them was unsuccessful, he would have snuck in and stolen a uniform for himself.

Samara: Not unless she absolutely has to.

Pride 2: in what areas might your muse be a little overconfident? are they overconfident in the sense that they don't have the skills to back it up, or in the sense that they do have the skills but they are obnoxious in their confidence?

Evie: Can exude confidence, but is not overconfident. She still has very cautious and impulsive tendencies.

Alan: Less so overconfident, moreso hyperconfident. He has the skills to back himself up, he can be excessive but not obnoxious about his confidence. The thing is that he has zero sense of humbleness or modesty. This benefits him in the sense that he has zero capability for self-loathing. But it also harms him in the sense that he can be a bit ignorant to others’ needs or goals.

Samara: Is relatively confident, but definitely not overconfident at all. Moreso just comfortable in herself.

Pride 4: is your muse comfortable with apologizing to others?

Evie: Yes, but it can be difficult for her. In some situations, she may need to apologize, but she’s unsure of how genuine the apology would come across. In other situations, she can be unsure of whether she’s the (only) one who needs to apologize.

Alan: Yes, but it’s not something he’s used to. Normally, it can be difficult for him to see when he’s in the wrong. But when he does, he is able to apologize with relative ease, and he does feel better for doing so.

Samara: Somewhat. She knows it’s good to apologize, but she still feels bad for her participation/behavior in the conflict in the first place. Especially due to her “don’t get involved/don’t start shit unless I absolutely have to” tendencies.

oo1. When I say all muses are tops and dominant, I mean that I am experienced enough to know what I'm comfortable writing and that is it. Do not try to force switching on me. I also tend to selectively like brats (brats do not automatically make a bottom better written and I don't know how that thought process even started tbh.) oo2. With that said, all of my muses are complex and multi-dimensional in some way. My men have thoughts, feelings, dreams, goals, and personal preferences, and will absolutely soften for the right ships with chemistry. I'm not the writer for you if you believe tops/doms should be automatic kink-dispensers with no emotion or depth. oo3. You will see kinks as dark and heavy as non/dubcon, werewolves/monsters, possessiveness, public play, blood play, pain play, kidnapping, gun/knife play, violence, etc. You'll also see that mixed in with earned fluff and romance; I can play some very hard doms or terrible men but even they can be open to romance, no matter how dysfunctional. Therefore, follow at your own risk, or talk to me about your limits if we are roleplaying together. Any attempts at blog policing will result in a block, though. oo4. Biggest limits are probably any age regression, diapers, scat, feet stuff, writing submissive characters myself, racism/bigotry, poly relationships.

oo5. We can always move to discord if that's what you prefer. I have enough discord threads for right now but can use it to ooc chat.

oo6. I will admit I am picky. If a reply doesn't inspire me or I'm not having fun with a rp, I have no issue dropping and I am very ghost friendly. Jurassic Park Daily - Plans

Technology’s allergy to Alan Grant, and vice versa, is a piece that’s conserved between book and movie. The movie translates Grant’s musings on raptors into an actual speech/rant, because you want to build up the danger of the raptors ahead of time, before the audience sees them.

Tech that isn’t designed to function in the enivironment where it will actually be used is a huge pet peeve of Crichton’s, both here and in The Lost World and his other books. (We saw it previously with the overdesigned expensive tents failing, and the tipis - designed by peoples who had lived in the area for a very long time - being the best design in the Badlands).

Likewise, a central theme is the problem of people who are good at models and theory and plans but don’t adapt them to the real world. How something should work matters far less than how it in fact does work.

Fanfic self-rec!!

So a while ago I got tagged by @forest-falcon (im 99% sure), and I didn't get to it at the time, but I really wanted to do it! So here it is, very belatedly and based entirely off my memory of the post because I don't have the energy to conduct an archaelogical excavation of my blog as I can only hope I tagged it well.

Probably the most chaotic way of answering this. Also turned into a bit of me reflecting and musing over my writing.

But in no particular order as I'm proud of them for different reasons :)

Blue Skies- tumblr Ao3 Scott and Bereznik with Gordon too. Very whumpy, then hurt/comforty. I am extremely proud of this one, like so so proud. There is a massive amount of emotion in it, written all in one go and I stayed up to 1 am to finish it. It is a lot about trauma and honestly a lot of putting feelings onto paper. But all the details, the parts I think i did a really good job of viscerally showing instead of telling, the blue skies theme. It's intense and there are many awful, painful things, but there is also hope. That's definitely a main theme of my writing: no matter what I put them through, they will come out of it and there will be hope again.

Bruised- tumblr Ao3 Earth and Sky. Hurt/comfort. Some Virgil worrying over Scott, a bit of classic Scott-angsting, then lots of brotherly affection between them. The end is very Soft. Everyone gets a hug and then to sleeeep.

Squid Hug- tumblr Ao3 FishTanky fluff with lots of cuddles. Makes a good comfort read, with a bit funny, a little silly, and a good dose of hurt/comfort leaning heavily to the comfort. Did I mention the hugs?

As Sure As The Stars- tumblr Ao3 trans Alan! A realisation of it, and a coming out. And Alan and John together stargazing and a conversation on the roof. I poured alot of growing up queer experiences into it for myself and it also seemed to resonate with others too.

Pride Paint And Rainbow Pins- tumblr Ao3 My first Thunderbirds fic and for Thunderpride too!! Its short, fluffy and sweet! Some artist!Virgil plus a few puns. (And I really wish I had all of those pride pins, because I made the designs of nearly all of them up and I love them). And the pride themes! It really makes me happy in itself. But as well for being my jumping off point in Thunderfam. It has many of my queer headcanons for everyone when I'd been too shy (and anxious about being welcome) to make them into my own post.

Bonus points to the numerous WIPS I am working on that are as yet unfinished but I am still very proud of and can't wait till I do!

The Blue Blanket Fic!! I can't not mention it! I'm working on turning it into a full fic, which the first part of is here. But look at what @edutainer2022 and I already wrote. There be feelings, there be Scott whump, there be the blue comfort blanket!

3. What were your top five books of the year?

evil question EVIL QUESTION ugh okay let's try, in no particular order:

I Keep My Exoskeletons To Myself, Marisa Crane; a raw and tender exploration of grief and parenthood through a queer lens, with a dystopian backdrop. The only thing close to litfic I've ever read and liked.

The Spirit Bares Its Teeth, Andrew Joseph White & A Study in Drowning, Ava Reid; these two are inextricable to me because they're both deep explorations of womanhood/girlhood and illness and gender and breaking it all apart. Both of these books made me cry and I want to do an extremely close study of them and their themes together at some point.

Some Desperate Glory, Emily Tesh; second only to Hell Followed With Us in its incisive, clear commentary on cult thinking, fascism, and deconstruction. Also things happen with the plot that I did not even remotely see coming and they were amazing. This book made me rabid.

The Saint of Bright Doors, Vajra Chandrasekera; a radiant exploration of so much that's hard for me to put into words so just go read my storygraph review.

Honorable mention to Judas, a comic by Jakub Rebelka and Jeff Loveness that made me scream and and wail and weep and cry and howl with the beauty, symbolism, and artistry of word and art.

9. Did you get into any new genres?

Not really! I've continued playing around with reading horror, and trying to read more sci-fi but nothing truly new to me no.

13. What were your least favorite books of the year?

Her Majesty's Royal Coven by Juno Dawson, which became one of my worst books of the year in, I am not kidding, the very last sentence. Made me so mad I probably won't even read the sequel. Why did she do that!?

The Wolf and the Sparrow by Isabelle Adler, an extremely boring "enemies" to lovers political marriage book that made my eyes glaze over.

The Tywford Code, Janice Hallett, a book I really looked forward to after reading The Appeal but that truly did not deliver. Mostly confusing, I ended up skipping multiple chapters and feeling like I had missed absolutely nothing, which is always a terrible sign.

22. What’s the longest book you read?

Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey, which I read while feeling miserable and awful and rated 5 stars because I enjoyed the hell out of it.

24. Did you DNF anything? Why?

Yep! According to storygraph I've hard DNF'd 10 books this year (meaning I've marked them DNF instead of simply moving them back to my TBR because I'm not feeling it right now). Some were because they made my skin crawl with sexism and/or racism (Upgrade, Blake Crouch; League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Alan Moore) others I just wasn't capable of reading because of fundamental mood or content mismatches (How High We Go in the Dark, Sequoia Nagamatsu; Muse of Nightmares, Lani Taylor). Most I got extremely bored with for no known reason or I got a weird vibe from.
