Yumetober 2024 - Day 30: 2000's AU

"Who the hell is blasting MCR at midnight on a Monday??"

I had a vision, and I executed it.

I saw a post a while ago about vampires living through the Y2K era and scene vampires, and I've wanted to draw scene/emo Girlycard for so long, and I fi ally got my chance lmao

I guess this also counts as an art style study?? I hope I did the emos right with this one.

Rina is sitting next to Drift's holoform. They're on a bench in the middle of a park- a more wooded park, one might define it as a trail. Drift had wanted to "get out there" and learn more about "Earth nature" now that the seasons were changing, and he'd recruited Rina to find a good place for them to actually go.

To be fair to Rina, she didn't get out a lot. She was distinctly more indoors-y- a fear of bugs and an internet addiction will do that to you. So yes, maybe her university hiking path wasn't the best idea she could come up with, but it was something, and Drift seemed happy with it. Besides, as far as she was concerned, getting to sit next to Drift alone was nice enough- even if the sun beating down between the tree leaves was starting to get to her.

Every now and then, someone would walk by, and the two would give a smile or a nod or a wave as the person moved along. Usually, it was another student, but every now and then it would just be some person on a walk. And sometimes, it would be some stranger on a walk with their dog.

After the third person walked by with what Rina would classify as an oversized puppy, Drift piped up, torn from his trance of staring at the nature around him. "I have a question."

Rina's ears twitch. "Shoot."

"What's with the people walking with dogs?" He asks, and Rina is slightly impressed by him remembering what a dog is. She did a good job of drilling it into him, she supposes. "You're a dog, but you're not..." he makes some sort of gesture which she assumes is meant to represent a leash. "Being tied up like that."

She makes an ehhh noise. "I'm not really the same as most dogs, though, either." She taps her chin, as if in thought. "I look- on the surface- a lot more like a human than a dog, and I speak English, so I think if people saw me being walked like that they would probably get the wrong idea." They would either think she was being abused or that it was a weird sex thing, and Rina really did not want people making those sorts of assumptions about her. "With normal dogs, it's a lot different. They're more likely to run away if you just let them go out and about, so walking them on leashes is a good way to get them some exercise."

Drift nods along. "So that's normal, for normal dogs?"

Rina shrugs. "Yeah, more or less."

Drift thinks for a moment, staring off, and Rina follows his gaze to see him looking up at one of the large trees, the leaves still mostly in the process of browning. Every now and then, with each small gust of wind, one of the already dead leaves would gently and daintily fall to the stone pathway. After a second, Drift turns back to look at her. "Do you ever get jealous of normal dogs?"

She jumps a bit. That was not the question she was anticipating by any means. "Not- not about being walked?!"

"Well, no," Drift elaborates, "not about that. But do you ever wish you could do something a normal dog could do?"

Rina huffs, folding her arms, though she does actually think about it for a moment. "I guess, if there's anything," she starts, "it's that they can sleep all day in those big soft dog beds."

Drift tilts his head in slight confusion. "You have a big soft human bed, though."

"Yeah," she groans, "but I can't just stay in it all day like a dog can. I have stupid responsibilities. I need to keep getting up."

Drift exhales a soft, small laugh, and his holoform smiles down at her. He has such a soft expression, and distantly, she wonders if she'll ever see such a gentle look on the actual mech. She hopes so. "I dunno, I think your bed looks pretty comfortable."

A blush rushes to her face. "That's not the point," she grumbles, "and don't say it like that!"

Confused, Drift raises an eyebrow at her. "Why not?"

Rina's ears flatten against her head, tail flicking behind her, and she looks away, trying to hide the red shade of her face. "Just... just don't."

Yumetober Day 30: "Can I get a kiss?"

Feat. Rollo Flamme x Hayley Adams (Disney: Twisted Wonderland)

"He is such a respectable character, the Righteous Judge."

Rollo had taken Hayley out on a small date to one of the parks in Fleur City. Conversations were initially started by Hayley—as always—but Rollo had been doing most of the talking by the next minutes.

For someone who never really heard her boyfriend actively talking without a moment's break, Hayley found enjoyment in simply hearing him speak.

"His utmost dedication to the people was what allowed him to serve and protect them," he continued. "The villains never did as much as faze him. Without him, this city would never recover on its feet."

Rollo seemed to notice how Hayley was staring at him the whole time. He couldn't ignore the way she's smiling. "You don't look like you're listening," he said.

The smile disappeared. "I am," Hayley defensively said.

The male raised an eyebrow. "Really? Because you look like you wanted to tell me something."

Hayley made a gesture of mock thinking. If Rollo was accusing her of something as such, she better humor it in return.

"Can I get a kiss?"

Rollo blinked. Knowing Hayley, he had it coming. "We're in public," he reminded.

"Your point being?" Hayley asked, as if her request was the most mundane to ever exist. She smiled sweetly—innocently. "Please?"

She might as well be a master of manipulation, but Rollo wasn't about to give up his public conduct.

"I will give you more than a kiss when we get back."

He wore a straight face upon saying that. Hayley in turn had a flush of red. But she didn't allow his words to sway her.

She pressed a finger to her cheek. "Just one," she urged. Rollo drew out a defeated sigh. "As you wish."

Just as he leaned in to place a kiss on her cheek, Hayley turned and allowed his lips to press against hers.

Rollo retracted like he had been electrocuted. He watched her with a sour look on his face.

"Did I make you mad?" Hayley asked.

For a split second, the question shot the male with worry over what his expression actually looked like. But Hayley's victorious grin gave him the reassurance.

"Yes," he scoffed. A harmless banter. "Yes, you did."

Yumetober Day 22: Risk

Feat. Rollo Flamme x Hayley Adams (Disney: Twisted Wonderland)

Rollo observed Hayley on the school grounds of Noble Bell College with a scowl on his face. Two of his school's students were with her. One of them happened to be his very own vice president!

Allowing his girlfriend to mingle with the other students wasn't a problem in and of itself. But if magic—loathsome magic—was to be involved, that would be a different case.

"P-President!"

Hayley glanced towards the direction the startled student was looking. She found Rollo, his eyes fixed in a glare. Whether it was for her or the two students behind her, she could only guess.

"I believe we've talked about your involvement with mages, Hayley," Rollo said, his voice low and borderline threatening. "You are allowed to be in close proximity with them on the sole condition they are not actively wielding magic."

"It's only a harmless spell. I wasn't injured in any way," Hayley insisted.

"You may not be today, but soon you will be." Rollo took steps forward. "Come. You must return inside at once."

Just as his hand was about to grab hold of her wrist, Hayley took a step back. The girl has a natural defiant side, but it never failed to catch Rollo off guard every time it shows.

He would've admired the fire in her eyes, but there were times it served to strike a nerve. Anger flashed in his eyes for a split second before his face smoothed over to his usual stoic expression.

"Hayley, I merely wish to keep you safe and protected." He sighed in defeat. "Please. I can't risk losing you, too."

Hayley walked the hallways of the campus, Rollo alongside her. The trip was painfully and awkwardly quiet.

"I'm sorry."

Rollo glanced down—Hayley is only the level of his shoulders. "For what reason?" he asked.

"For asking them to perform magic spells for me." Her tone seemed unapologetic, but Rollo dismissed it all the same.

"You don't have anything to apologize for. It's a risk I'm trying to will myself to take," he said, but Hayley only said, "I don't understand."

Rollo remained silent for quite some time. It frightened him, but he knows he had to at least try. For Hayley. And for him to come into terms with his cruel past.

"I want to believe that you can prove me wrong," he said. "That magic can indeed be safe."

Yumetober Day 15: Sparks

Feat. Rollo Flamme x Hayley Adams (Disney: Twisted Wonderland)

Every single magic user within the vicinity must've fallen victim to the might of the Crimson Flower. Everything should be going according to Rollo's plan.

But there she was, she who is immune to the parasitic effects of its fiery bloom.

The magicless student of Night Raven College.

Her appearance wasn't in Rollo's expectations. What in the name of the Righteous Judge was she doing in such a place dangerous for non-magic users?

The inferno dancing within Hayley's eyes was unmistakable. If not the Crimson Flower, it would be the blazing hellfire shrouding the Noble Bell College student before her.

She took a step closer, and Rollo subconsciously took a step back. "Stop," he said sharply, and Hayley abruptly halted herself.

"No. You're the one who has to stop," she said in return. "Before it consumes everyone, these flowers have to be stopped."

"You don't understand. I'm doing everyone a favor," Rollo snapped. "A world without magic. A place meant to be safe. Especially for the likes of you."

Hayley narrowed her eyes. "You say magic is dangerous," she murmured. She glanced at the bell. A promise of salvation for her own pitiful soul.

"But I am not afraid of danger."

Such simple sentence was enough for Rollo to show a subtle hint of weakness. Hayley used it as a chance to slip past where he stood.

"No!"

The world seemed to have slowed. Sparks danced in the night air with a fiery rage. And there he watched her, a witch burning in the pits of hell—no.

An innocent soul, condemned to the burning wrath of his guilty heart.

Rollo was cruelly reminded of such haunting screams running rampant in the depths of his mind. He quickly reached out, his fire quenched by the overwhelming dread rooted from a painful past.

If he could save her just in time, protect her from the dangers of this world filled with magic...

...perhaps only then would he be able to forgive himself.

Yumetober Day 11: "You look cute when you're annoyed."

Feat. Rollo Flamme x Hayley Adams (Disney: Twisted Wonderland)

"Is there something you need?"

Hooded eyes stared blankly at the blazing fireplace. A finger was pressed to Rollo's cheek. Who else would be disturbing him if not his girlfriend?

"Your back is taking the form of a banana. This is the sign you need to take a break," Hayley said.

"My back is perfectly fine," Rollo said, his tone dismissive. "And might I remind you, you're the one who always sits like a shrimp. It makes sense why that student Floyd keeps calling you one."

A sharp retaliation. It was enough to remove the finger pressed to Rollo's face, and Hayley stared at him with her mouth agape.

But giving up wasn't in Hayley's plans, and she had her palms on top of the files Rollo was sorting. She was careful not to crumple up the papers, maintaining a safe distance from the ink.

"I can't have you overworking yourself. You've been in that same position for the last five hours," she said.

"In case you haven't noticed, I stood up twice," Rollo simply said.

He rounded his hand to reach for the quill, but Hayley swiftly grabbed his wrist. That gesture alone was enough to elicit a dangerous glint within Rollo's eyes.

Hayley showed a momentary look of surprise, but it was soon overshadowed by a short fit of laughter.

"You look cute when you're annoyed," she giggled. "It makes me want to continue disturbing you."

With a twist of his hand, Rollo managed to tightly grip Hayley's wrist. A leverage was all he needed to turn back the tables, and he gripped her face with a swift hand.

"Ro-"

Hayley was ultimately silenced by a kiss, a rather forceful one at that. She could feel the weight pulling her backwards. She had to take a step back to keep herself from falling, but it only got her harshly pressed to a nearby cabinet.

Rollo showed no signs of stopping. Hayley must've struck a nerve. The force was about to consume her whole. Bruising. And kind of rooted from annoyance.

Right when she was about to admit defeat, the male pulled away, leaving her mind in total disarray.

"Five minutes," Rollo breathed, his eyes sharp and narrow as he watched her disoriented expression.

"That's all I need."

Yumetober Day 31: Halloween AU

Feat. Rollo Flamme x Hayley Adams (Disney: Twisted Wonderland)

Hayley found the Ramshackle Dorm charming enough not to need decorations for Halloween. Headmaster Crowley had other ideas though, and the day ended with exhaustion.

It's best to put on more charm, as what the headmaster would tell her. Simply because the school was open for public viewing.

The opening hour was fast approaching. The volume of people at the main entrance increased at an incredible speed. Hayley could only hope her social battery would last through the viewing hours.

During the course of the event, most people paid special attention on her for being the only girl in what's supposed to be an all-boys academy.

Hayley prayed none of the visitors are aware of her being magicless. She didn't want another reason to be flocked with curious questions.

"You look like you're feeling unwell."

Hayley's eyes snapped open. Not only had she unwittingly dozed off on her stall, but the familiarity of the voice stimulated her consciousness.

"Rollo?" she gasped. "I didn't expect you would be visiting."

She knew the male's particular distaste for Night Raven College. It's the main reason why she's doing most of the visiting to Noble Bell College.

"I have the same thoughts," Rollo said. He placed his handkerchief above his lips, a signature move to conceal his sour expression in public. "This place reeks with malevolence."

Hayley was about to speak, but Rollo followed, "Would it be a bother to request you to leave your section unattended for the meantime?"

The silence was a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle Hayley had to endure. But she was grateful to be spirited away from the crowd roaming the campus grounds.

"Today marks the first day we met." Rollo overlooked the sports field. He basked in the evening breeze washing over his face. "Time flies too fast."

Hayley watched as he reminisced the past. "November 16th," she said in return. Rollo looked at her in question, and she reminded, "You asked me out on the 16th of November."

The male regarded her with surprise. "A chance encounter." His gaze softened. "But it changed my life greatly."

Fingers subconsciously brushed against the back of Hayley's hand. Rollo moved his gaze away and back into the empty fields across them. "Selfish as I might sound but..."

"I'm glad the Black Carriage brought you to this world."

Yumetober Day 24: "Do I know you?"

Feat. Rollo Flamme x Hayley Adams (Disney: Twisted Wonderland)

Rollo had to remind Hayley multiple times of the dangers she's facing just by remaining in close proximity with magic users. Those who wield their abilities recklessly to the point it becomes more of a threat than, as what Hayley would call it, a gift.

It had been two whole days since Hayley was admitted to the infirmary. She was completely lacking consciousness.

Rollo was informed of her accident involving two Night Raven College students sparring with one another. Hayley, who happened to be one of the spectators, took a blow when one of their spells went off course.

The male knew better than to cause a scene, but he would be delighted to remind the students of their crime.

A soft groan. "Hayley?" Rollo nearly overturned the chair he was in. He immediately clasped her hand between his palms. "Hayley, can you hear me?"

Hayley was still disoriented. She only looked back at him in silence, but Rollo took it as a positive response.

"Oh, Hayley." He pressed the back of her hand against his lips. A mere kiss wasn't enough. He had to inhale her presence. His heart could barely contain his emotions. To say he was relieved would be an understatement.

"Do I know you?"

Hayley's next words immediately shattered the moment. Rollo glanced up, his face almost going pale.

"Hayley..." He was relieved when she didn't do so much as flinch when he reached to caress her cheek. "Hayley, it's me. Rollo Flamme. Don't you recognize me?"

Contrary to the emptiness of her eyes, Rollo's gaze was filled with hope. He asked her about her school. Her friends and acquaintances. About Twisted Wonderland.

None of it were faces and images she recognized.

Under different circumstances, Rollo would've taken advantage of the opportunity to feed her false memories. A series of carefully crafted lies to ensure she stays away from those villains.

There was no time for selfishness. And so he sighed, defeated.

"I want to remember." Those words alone were enough to bring back the light in Rollo's eyes. Though Hayley's voice was weak, there was an underlying determination in it.

"My heart tells me you're dear to me," Hayley whispered.

"Please help me remember your face, Rollo Flamme."
