you hear that there are a lot of shikis in tsukihime, but it isn't until you play tsukihime and its fandiscs that you realize that oh my god there are so fucking many shikis. i can count four (4) distinct instances of a shiki that are derived from tohno shiki, and still--still!!--nasu has even more shikis in his back pocket.
they need to institute a hunting season to control the shiki population.
#i cant stop thinking about how many shikis there are#the one in plus disc came out of nowhere and blindsided me#how many more shikis are there#i dont even want to know how much ive underestimated shikis spawned from ryougi shiki#are there even more in melty blood????#era.txt#tsukihime spoilers ///

TSUKIHIME FASHION REVIEW 2!!
HELLO EVERYONE!!
it is i your epic and incredible kiku
patiently waits for applause
well damn ok no applause...
MOVING ON... considering im just screaming into the void who cares for applause anyways RIGHT?
so this is more of me ranting about the designs of the characters from the single greatest media franchise since barney that is tsukihime. lets get right into it with the man the legend the GOAT the weirdo our beloved...
SHIKI TOHNO
this man saw a bad bitch like arcueid and dressed up like this holy shit.
like lets think about this for a second
he saw ARCUEID
ARCUEID BRUNESTUD
and dressed up like that?
is he not ashamed?
if it was me id be dressing up like im the king of england (forgive me for mentioning engl*nd) but no this boy wore that shirt
a thousand curses on shiki tohno
this is his normal getup and it aint too bad tbh. in fact i lowkey fuck with it. i may even find this good looking (random fun fact: this is the first time we ever see shiki and its not even in the original vn its from plus disc)
i get hes a student but why the fuck are you dressed up like that in evening anyways actually wtf.
his taste in fashion is really questionable even more so then the GODDESS arcueid
now THIS is what i want even if i can still see that abomination of a shirt
the apron with mushroom man himself making an appearance is cute but more importantly theres a certain GODDESS arcueid who is my wife (dont correct me on this matter i have proof) in this picture which drives up his rizz by 100 points
and hes serving food like any good servant servant should...
goddamn arcueid is cute... good on her! good on her.
um what were we talking about?
ok onto the remake shiki because im SICK of og designs and seriously missing my wife arcueid
ok this like most remake (re)designs actually looks really good i cant lie. he doesnt have that godawful abysmal shitty trash ugly painful terrible demonic shirt
THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THIS SHIRT. THI-
sorry i cant help it. i live in fear of it. i mourn my innocence i lost upon sight of this THING. how dare you takeuchi for invading my eyesight with this thing. he also designed arcueid tho so i guess it all evens out
look at this world that could've been... a peaceful world.. a complete world....
Arcueid receiving a variety of incredibly beautiful dresses while shiki receives... jacket and jacket and uh jacket i mean they really couldve had everything.
ok he did get another jacket in the series im sorry i stand corrected but i really like the black shirt!! thats an upgrade and a HALF
yay shiki
seriously i miss arcueid
anyways this is where ill stop befor-
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
ok enough im sick and tired of the visual abuse
anyways its time for me to go and play tunguska so i can kick koyanskayas incredibly alluring ass. feel free to uh do whatever ig

Paradox Live The Animation Ep 1 Thoughts & Reviews
Massive Spoilers for Episode 1 so if you don't want to see spoilers please ignore! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Holy shit this definitely blew my expectations for the Paradox Live anime. I've been a fan for 3 whole years (since 2020) so this is absolutely phenomenal. When I say the 3D Animation of Paradox live is good I mean it's seriously good. The animation is so fluid and dynamic it looks absolutely gorgeous. Both 3D and 2D. Mainly 3D, BAE gets two performances and the quality is amazing, their movements looks so natural and the camera movement is amazing. You also get to see the Phantom lives which is amazing because of how good they look too (Allen's Pheonix especially) 2D animation is also worth praising. In this episode it covers almost all of the Opening Show Drama Tracks mainly from BAE's perspective. However you get to see Shiki meet Nayuta, and Shiki's reaction is a lot more emotional and heart breaking (knowing the context) and the way they animated Shiki's movements, the reaction on his face, the music. Overall, everything in that scene is amazing. There's also a part at the end of the episode that shows Allen's trap reaction. The way it's portrayed is so good, from the way the water drains looking similar to a disc. Allen's reaction, the tone and the setting of the scene itself. It goes from this cheerful performance at CLUB Paradox to a horror movie scene. In terms of the story, I'm not sure if the anime is canon nor how much of the drama tracks it will cover. But just by looking at episode 1. It seems like they already covered most of the Opening Show Drama tracks (except for the actual performances themselves) We also get to see Alter Trigger for the very first time and what their laboratories look like. Mainly we get a new character who has something to do with Chisei. (We don't even know his name and as of the moment he's a mystery guy) So far, I think the episode is great. A good starter and it definitely build up to something in the later episodes. Most of the episode actually follows BAE and there isn't that much of the other units (which is my only problem so far) but other than that it's a good first episode and I would give it a 9/10.

Seo Akira so underrated. At least she has a lowkey route on the Tsukihime plus disc which is hilariously still more than Yumizuka Satsuki has. And while I'm mentioning it, she also has much more screen time in Kagetsu Tohya as well by virtue of actually being alive throughout the main story instead of being mentioned in some alleyway she died at while Tohno Shiki kind of but not quite remembers her lol. At least she shows up in some of the Kagetsu Tohya side stories.

Just a quick ficlet for kyoru week 2023 cause I wanted to write something.
8/22 home movies @kyoruweekofficial
It’s more of a kyoru family story. Idk the idea is cute to me lol
“Hey mom, watcha doin’?” The six-year-old questions.
The woman stops wiping the shelf. “Oh, just tidying up.”
“What’s those?” The child points to a set of DVD jackets. “Movies?”
“Sort of, they’re home movies. You know, like when we record videos on our camera? These are of events we like to keep.”
“Can we watch one?”
“Sure. Why don’t you pick?” The child picks a random disc and hands it to their mom. “Oh, this is of my graduation,” the woman reminisces as she pops it into the Blue-Ray player.
They curl up on the couch as the video rolls with mom narrating for the little girl. The video was taken when she graduated from high school and her parents held a big party at the Sohma compound. Many were there, like uncle Mutsuki and his parents uncle Yuki and aunt Machi, uncle Hatsu and aunt Rin with daughters Sora and Riku, even uncle Shiki came considering he wasn’t fond of parties. Of course, aunty Akito and uncle Shigure had to attend as the heads of the clan, but it was nice to see them since they rarely left the compound anymore. She names off the relatives as they appear on camera, often pausing to answer questions because the little girl has never met many of the older generations that have passed on.
“Who’s that next to you and papa Hajime,” the child points at the elderly couple who are standing next to her grandfather.
“That’s grandpa’s parents. They’re your great-grandparents, grandma Tohru and grandpa Kyo.”
“Oh, they look so old, but so cute still holding hands.”
The woman chuckles, “well, they are in their 80s.” She sighs, “I wish you could’ve met them. You look a little like grandma Tohru when she was a young girl.” A bit of moisture clouds her vision as she reminisces. “Lets’ see, grandma passed away about 8 years after this, and your grandpa followed a year later. My parents believed with his heart gone, grandpa didn’t have the will to keep living.”
“That’s impossible,” the child looks up at her mom with concern, “how can a heart just disappear from,” she points to her chest.
“No, not like that.” The woman laughs. “They’re talking about your great-grandmother. Grandma Tohru was his heart. Great-grandpa loved her more than anything else in this world because she saved him from the Sohma monster.”
The child turns to look at her mom again, this time with an indignant glare. “Mom,” she crosses her arms. “A monster, seriously? Monster’s aren’t real so that makes no sense.”
Before responding, the woman pauses the video and pulls her daughter onto her lap. “Have I ever told you the story of the zodiac?” The child shakes her head no. “Do you want to hear it?”
“Yes!” The little girl bounces in excitement.
The mom moves her back to the couch, gets up and goes to another room. She comes back in a couple minutes holding an old wooden box and sits back down next to her daughter. She then opens the lid to show the child the little animal figurines inside, worn with age, but still discernible for what they represent. But there was one odd piece in the box.
“Mom, why’s there a wooden rice ball with a bunch of animals?”
“I’m glad you asked,” the mom talks as she pulls out the figurines of the rice ball and an orange cat, placing it in the little girls cupped hands. “These represent your grandma Tohru,” she points to the rice ball, “and grandpa Kyo,” she points to the cat. “The rest of the animals make up the zodiac.”
The child gives her a mom a confused look which gains a chuckle from her mother.
“Don’t worry, it’ll be explained in the story.” The woman takes the figurines from her daughter, puts them back in the box, and puts the box aside. “Now where should I begin?” She thinks for a moment. “A very long time ago, there was a god…”

Tsukihime spoilers / thoughts now that i finished it
I have yet to finishing the extras which is what i’m currently working on but i think thats fine for the sake of completing my thoughts i won’t account for spin offs & such. I can go on all day in what i praise so i’ll start with my biggest gripe. The weakest part of the story to me & its not even close, is the happy ends for Ciel & Arcuied’s routes. They took away too much and added very little in my eyes, my friend said when i mentioned this statement its due to Nasu being a new author and worrying how the fans would react to the true ends bitter sweet moments so threw a bone to them which i can see. I get they’re not canon and so short but still i question their inclusion at all. I didn’t feel to question anything else’s inclusion in the story and liked all the characters. If there was a character i had to say I liked the least it would be Nrvnqsr Chaos but the fact i even enjoyed him goes to show how great the cast is. From here imma go comment on some parts of the story that were notable to me, it’s a bit funny to me how on Arcueid route when he killed her like that and talked about how he almost climaxed i was like “wow he’s a freak 0.0” (neutral) then as a continued the story was like “oh it was Roa’s influence” then close to the end i realized bro is actually like a cat seeing a bird when it comes to inhuman blood. Another notable part of the story for me was i theorized pretty quickly that Hisui might of been the cheerful girl and Kohaku was the despondent girl by the window then of course Nasu messed with me on the scene in Hisui route where Kohaku was impersonating hisui. I really liked what Tsukihime had the say about the cycle of abuse and loved how in the Kohaku route they broke the cycle at the end it made me incredibly emotional. Kohaku and Akiha are incredibly well written characters and i loved their dynamic (real toxic yuri). Despite my complaints about Arcueid and Ciel’s happy ends i loved Hisui’s i felt it added a lot to her character, how it was still bitter sweet but gave us a lot of insight into Kohaku and Hisui still. Might be biased but anyone that didn’t like Hisui route has the right to an opinion but i just think if they are in it for the fights then there’s enough shounen for them out there. I loved the eclipse epilogue with Aoka where Shiki states yeah using using his mystic eyes might of reduced how long he has to live but he has no regrets he lived true to himself even if it would of been easier for him to stray from the path it was an amazing way to close off the story and goes well with every ending aside Akiha true end. There’s a lot more i can get into like what Nasu was trying to convey in Akiha route about living in the past and other things but that wraps up my current thoughts. Ill try finishing Tsukihime plus disc and Kogetsu Tohya soon then in the future ill read Mahoyo. Also, thank you mutuals who had already read tsukihime for not spoiling it for me, i am grateful for those of you that have long since read it for giving me a chance for experiencing it knowing almost nothing about far side!

“Crystal felt a little confused, and the broadcast being so rushed definitely didn’t win it any fans.” Shiki nods. “I didn’t really look at the disc release, so I don’t know if they fixed it up.’
“As far as my favorite? Mmm. Do you want a classic one, or a more modern one?”
“I still maintain that Crystal falls flat, but in fairness I can’t be sure it’s not nostalgia goggles bias from watching the original much earlier on. What’s your favorite anime? Everyone has to have at least one.”

Tsukihime's Far Side Routes and Fate/stay night's Heaven's Feel route are clearly doing related things to one another. (The Tiger Dojo special, and I think also Plus+Disc, briefly mention a distinction between the "front side" and "back side" of each VN, with the Far Side and Heaven's Feel as the VNs' respective back sides.) But I don't feel like I understand well what those related things-they're-doing *are*, aside from "being very good". Is this a thing you understand well enough to explain?
with Tsukihime, the "back side" is far more clearly defined on account of Far Side of the Moon releasing after the original demo, which consisted solely of Arc and Ciel's routes. this will make a little more sense if you're clued into the fact that Heaven's Feel was actually intended to be at least two routes, as opposed to a single route focused on Illya and Sakura
I don't know exactly how Nasu would define the "back side" of his vns, but for me, it generally implies the latter half of a story in which the underlying mysteries and implications of the first half are gradually split open. for the original Tsukihime, this was Shiki's family history and his true connection to the twins
for Fate, it's pretty self explanatory what would be elucidated in this second half
this isn't just a trend with Nasu, of course, but the "back side" of his vns are especially good examples of this second-half turn, I'd say

Here are the latest details, via Project Lumina:
■ Characters
Hisui and Kohaku will be available as playable characters in Melty Blood: Type Lumina!
Hisui
A quiet, yet deeply affectionate maid.
A maid for the Tohno family, responsible for household chores (except cooking) and taking care of Shiki. She is Kohaku’s younger twin. Unlike her sister, she is known for wearing more modern, non-traditional clothing.
Her quiet nature makes her true feelings difficult to read, and her formal way of speaking has led Shiki to see her as being rather mechanical. Her fighting skills are not quite on the same level as her sister, but she holds her own well enough.
Kohaku
A young girl who brightens the Tohno residence with her smile.
She and her twin sister Hisui have worked for the Tohno family since they were young. Her trademark outfit is an apron over a classic kimono. Apart from assisting Akiha, she does household chores and tends the garden. Her pharmaceutical knowledge means she is also responsible for Shiki when he falls ill. She is endlessly cheerful, always willing to help, and wears a constant smile.
In battle, Kohaku can be seen wielding the sword she keeps hidden in her broom, calling on strange plants, and even dropping fire bombs from above as if by magic. How she is capable of such things is still a mystery to those around her.
■ Systems
Rapid Beat
Press attack buttons in rapid succession to execute this simple but hard-hitting combo!
Shield / Shield Counter
Use Shield to block your opponent’s attack, and then press an attack button to follow up with a Shield Counter!
Magic Circuit
The gauge shown at the bottom of the screen. Once filled up, it can be spent to use EX Specials, or trigger a Heat status!
Special / EX Special
Specials are high-power moves. Spend Magic Circuit gauges to dish out the even more powerful EX Specials!
Heat / Blood Heat
A heat status gives you a boost to your abilities, recovers HP and enables you to use Arc Drive. In a Blood Heat, you’ll be able to use Last Arc!
Arc Drive / Last Arc
Arc Drive is an extremely powerful Special that uses three full gauges to perform!
Last Arc is a super Special that dishes out incredible damage at the cost of four full Magic Circuit gauges, but is also usable under Blood Heat status!
Moon Skill
Moon Skills are powerful Specials that can be unleashed by consuming the Moon Icons that appear next to the Life Gauge.
They deal greater damage than regular Specials, and are not only powerful but easy to activate with simple controls using combinations of the directional buttons and attack buttons.
Moon Drive
A power-up that can be activated by using all of your Moon Icons any time you have more than one half full.
It temporarily boosts your Moon Skill, increases your Magic Circuit or number of possible Jumps/Dashes, as well as providing various other effects.

To start with imagining what would happen if certain Type-Moon characters were trans, how much Shiki being trans would change the story is probably the most route dependent by virtue of him being the protagonist. She could still have sex with people as himself and sexually violate people when taken over by Roa or Shiki so that wouldn't change much. She'd have to also do energy conversions like Akiha probably given Nasu's magic system is homophobic...wait not actually that might dependent on whether she's pre-op or post-op or not which given that it's Japan in the year 2000 it's probably the former so no change there either except maybe some dysphoria potentially. While we're on the topic of how it'd affect Hisui's route mainly, Hisui might not have as much of a problem touching her depending on how she feels about trans people and her gender. Hisui seems like she has the most potential to be straight instead of bi out of all the route characters, but she'd still help Shiki when needed so no plot changes there.
I feel like Akiha regardless of her route even with her conservative upbringing would respect her gender even if she has trouble thinking of her as something other than her onii-san and the understanding of it in general at some point. This point might be my most controversial, but considering that she fully sees and respects her as her brother despite not being blood related in the context of both her conservative upbringing and living in Japan in the year 2000, I could see her coming around as long as Shiki can still be her sibling just now as an onee-san instead. If you want a more conservative argument though, you could make it so that she only really comes around in her own route that would tie her feelings of Shiki as a sibling with Shiki and her gender and having to confront her own feelings of loving both her sister AND girls which is very funny to think she'd have more trouble with the latter issue.
The others would probably change much less as there aren't as many gender dynamic or personal issues going on. Kohaku would probably respect her gender I feel and she has less trouble with men compared to her younger sister Hisui so it wouldn't matter much regardless. Plus Kohaku just like Akiha is definitely bi so there wouldn't be any sexuality issues with Kohaku being accepting overall about that part of herself it seems even if she doesn't think of it consciously.
One might think Ciel would have trouble just because she's catholic and works for the church and has been influenced by their teachings to some degree, but I feel like she isn't really as religious as people might make her out to be considering her true ending and her job seeming to mostly be a work thing she can't find herself getting out of without help and motivation from someone else. I think she'd accept Shiki for who she is just given her personality alone and would be comforting in a sort of older sister or mentor kind of way. Plus this is a headcannon of course, but I'm pretty sure she's bi so the love and sexuality would still be there.
Arcueid's route would probably change the least and I struggle to find where it would even be relevant and how. I also think of Arcueid as bi so there's that too. She's literally out of this world and is only awake for it here and there, so I can't imagine the societal conventions of transphobia being very ingrained in her, especially since Japan historically doesn't have the same history of transphobia as western countries do. I can't remember how many other places she's been to if she has, but it probably still wouldn't matter much.
Satsuki is much harder to get a pin on since she gets much less screen time with her never having gotten her route in the original and all. I can't really gauge how she'd react or what her sexuality is based off Tsukihime alone (I've only played the original and plus disc so Kagetsu Tohya and Melty Blood are out of my league). Since she isn't very plot relevant because of that though, things probably wouldn't change much.
Arihiko would probably know well before anyone else that Shiki is trans given that they're friends and any struggles with coming out if she is out to him would probably be relegated to brief backstory or something. They might have a stronger bond because of it if she is out, but they'd probably act roughly the same in the sort of "I'm still the friend you've always had" and "You're still the best friend that I know" and "Nothing has to change between us, let's just be how we always are" sort of sense. Arihiko is already protective of her due to her anemia so that aspect probably wouldn't change much either. Maybe there could be some romance even, some allusions to it perhaps? But yeah, they'd probably stay friends for the story's sake unless Nasu by virtue of them being straight now were to make an Arihiko route before even releasing the Satsuki route. That'd be pretty funny.
I don't think Shiki's childhood backstory would change much other than maybe some early signs of dysphoria that could be brought up later. Her relationship with Roa and SHIKI wouldn't change much either. Maybe SHIKI would make some slightly different sly commentary but that's probably about it.
This will probably be the longest one of these for Tsukihime at least. I look forward to doing this with the rest of the Type-Moon cast as well as When They Cry characters.

The Descent and Decay of a Young Man Into the Night
Table of Contents
Hello hello! It’s Arrow! I want to get what I have posted; I hope to get at least to the end of the first “act” before I slump back into another hiatus on this project so I think posting will help get me motivated. This is the chapter I was on before my first hiatus as like the last one its one I needed to get down right. I hope the pacing isn’t too weird but otherwise I like how it came out.
I had trouble thinking of a name that’d fit the theme I have going. This one kinda works?
Chapter 7: The Disc
A dream. The dream I had several nights prior, of the princess....of Arcueid. A field of white flowers. The full moon. Now that I've met her again, she looked clearer in my mind's eye than ever. I could almost reach out and touch her. But as I moved to do so, the world around me shifted, as if time itself was speeding up. Before I knew it, I had a different form, someone else, but still myself. Then again. Then again. Onwards and onwards.
At one point I was a serial killer doing battle with a man in a black shroud. In another I was a hermit noble experimenting on the human body. In yet another I was a bishop presiding over a small dominion. Another still I was a baker's daughter turning the knife on my own beloved parents. All these lives boil over into bloodshed and they all end the same way: Arcueid appears.
I wake up in a cold sweat. The dream, all the lives glimpsed within it, seemed so real...realer than reality. But I was someone else in each of them. But I was still myself. So then? Who am I? Am I truly Shiki Tohno?
“I didn't expect you to be up already, Shiki-san.” Kohaku's soft voice lured me back to reality. “I thought you'd try to sleep in juuuuust a little bit considering last night's incident. I wouldn't tell~”
I shook off Kohaku's teasing. “Don't treat me like I'm completely irresponsible. I'm more than capable of waking up on time.” I got up and began getting ready for the day, Kohaku handing me what I needed from the closet as I prepared for the shower.
Coming out afterwards and beginning to dress myself, I turned back to Kohaku. “Kohaku, do you believe in reincarnation?”
“Of course, of course.” Kohaku didn't miss a beat, her smiling expression unchanging. “I think I might have been a cat in my past life. That suits me, don't you think? Nya?”
“If we are the reincarnations of someone else, are we really ourselves? Or just a continuation of someone else?”
Kohaku sighed and shook her head. “Shiki-san I wouldn't know anything about that. I'm a maid, just a goofy maid. ...You didn't have a weird dream again, did you?”
I looked away from her. I didn't know what to say. Was it just a weird dream? Even if it was, it definitely seems to have stirred thought within me. Just like the original dream did...
“Ah ha! You did! Your cool guy cold shoulder gives you away.” Kohaku giggled.
I tilted my head back to look at Kohaku directly, my hand pushing my bangs back as I did so. “It seems I did, yeah. I guess you can say I'm in a, well, philosophical mood this morning.”
Kohaku nodded. “Well, don't think too hard Shiki-san!”
I put on the finishing touches on getting on my school uniform. Looking at myself in the mirror, something about the standard look seemed...off. On impulse, I unfashioned the buttons on my jacket, exposing my white shirt beneath, not unlike how Arihiko wears his. Much better.
While I was doing this, I could overhear Kohaku muttering to herself how I ignored her cat joke.
Breakfast was a quiet affair. True to Kohaku's words the prior night, Father seemed none the wiser to my leaving the mansion. Against my better judgement, as it may tip Father off somehow, I decided to raise the question to him and Akiha as well.
“I know this is sudden, but do you believe in reincarnation?”
Akiha shook her head. “Why are you asking such weird questions all of the sudden?” She paused. “I've never really thought about it seriously but, yes, I can say I do.”
I turned to look her in the eyes. “Would you consider yourself a continuation of your past life, or a new person simply born from them?”
“It depends on how much effect my past life has on my current I suppose. If my past life has nothing to do with my current, can I say it really matters?”
“However-” Father spoke up now. “It is impossible for us to be aware of our prior incarnations beyond an inkling of a memory. What is important is who we are here and now. Our duty is to perform our current roles in life without fail. Pondering over things impossible to prove will merely distract us.”
I nodded. “So you are telling me to drop it then, Father?”
He nodded back. “For your own good. You and Akiha have enough in terms of struggles in this life.”
With that I didn't bring it up again. But it still nagged at the back of my head. Reincarnation.
Leaving for school, I decided to bring it up to Arihiko as I saw him. I didn't know what I expected from him on this, but it couldn't hurt. Might make for better small talk on the way to school than the prior murders.
“Reincarnation, huh? Well, if it exists it's as natural as breathing and dying. Hmm.” He rose his hand to his chin, deep in thought. “Life's like...a disc, you know? You reach the 'end' of the disc, then you restart. You're the same disc, but as far as you're concerned, what happened before hasn't happened.”
I was somewhat taken aback. “Sometimes you surprise me when you say smart things like that.”
“Are you saying you think I'm stupid, Shiki-kun?”
“No, no of course not.”
“You better not be.” He gave me a light smack on the back of the shoulder. It seems he and Kohaku had more in common than I thought.
“So what brought this on anyway, Shiki-kun?”
“Well...” I cricked my neck and stretched my arms behind my head. “I had another dream. This was similar to the first one-”
“-with the princess.”
“-Yeah. But I was meeting her again and again in different lives.” I left out that this was amidst bloody doings and that each meeting ended with her killing me. “No matter who I was, she managed to find me.”
Arihiko nodded. “So this mysterious dream girl has been following you from incarnation to incarnation. If Yumizuka-chan was here she'd say you were soulmates. Or maybe starcrossed lovers.” He pinned that on Satsuki, but he seemed familiar with those kinds of tropes himself.
“I don't even know if that woman is real. I thought I met her in the city, but right after I had the dream so-”
I suddenly stopped in my tracks. A ways away, next to the crosswalk, a familiar figure sat on the railing. Short blond hair, white shirt, dark skirt, pale skin and red eyes that were only sparsely dulled by the sun's light. It was her. It really was her....
Without thinking, I ran towards her, leaving a confused Arihiko in the dust. Something seemed to clob in my throat, a mixture of excitement, confusion, anticipation and...fear?
As I approached, Arcueid smiled and leaped down from the railing. “There you are! I thought if I hung around I'd find some sign of you somewhere. The school Ciel's going to is just down-”
“You're real?!” I spat out before letting her complete her thought. So I was wrong to second guess it. I did go out last night and I did meet Arcueid...
“Wow, rude.” Her tone of voice and expression indicated she was more amused than actually offended. “I told you I'd prove to you that you weren't dreaming right?”
I was dumbstruck. I didn't know what to say. If the meeting last night was all there was, I'd ask her what she intended to do next after meeting me here but the dream, the memory, blared in my head. A feeling of both 'you need to run' and 'you can't leave her side'.
“Wow, Shiki-kun. The pretty blond got your tongue?” By this point Arihiko had caught up to us. His voice was a pleasant return to my normal self.
“Y...yeah.” I turned to Arcueid. “This is my friend. Arihiko Inui.”
Arcueid beamed and extended her hand towards Arihiko. “Oh, nice to meet you! Are you a weird person too?”
“Hell yeah.” Arihiko didn't miss a beat, eagerly shaking Arcueid's hand.
“-and this is Arcueid Brunestud. She's a friend of mine from out of town-”
“I'm here to take care of your vampire problem!” Arcueid interrupted me with a tinge of pride in her voice, as if to get back at me from earlier. My eyes widened in panic. Arihiko didn't know anything about the truth behind the bloodless murders, how would he react-
“Oh cool, someone needed to do something about that. The police aren't doing shit.” He responded nonchalantly. Did...did he think she was referring to the murders metaphorically? He turned his head to me. “Honestly, I like her. If you need an ice breaker, why not ask her about the disc?”
Arcueid tilted her head in confoundment. “A disc? Like a frisbee? That's more of a dog thing and I'm more of a cat.” Again with cats. Again with people reminding me of Kohaku.
I shook my head. “No, it's a metaphor. For reincarnation. I don't know if it is a western concept so do you know what that is Arcueid?”
She crossed her arms, her expression changed to a pout. “Oh I know exactly what reincarnation is. You don't even know the half of it.”
“I see, perfect.” I continued. “I had a dream last night of what seemed to be past lives and it made me think. If reincarnation exists, where does one self end and the other begin? Are we ourselves, or just continuations of who we were before?”
Arcueid's face took a concerned look I hadn't seen before. “Pretty deep stuff...”
“Were you going to mention to Arcueid-chan about the princess in your dream too?” With only minimal thought Arihiko cut in. “Or...wait you said you met dream girl in the city, right? Is Arc-chan the dream princess somehow?”
With each word out of Arihiko's mouth Arcueid's expression seemed to grow colder until her face was completely grim.
“Hey, I don't mean to be a downer but...something just came up. Right now.” With those words Arcueid excused herself from the conversation and turned to leave.
“Wait! Arcueid!” I tried to call out to her but before I knew it she had disappeared into the crowd. Was something about her being in my dreams upsetting to her? Or did it allow her to realize I was the person she was killing in those memories?
Arihiko slumped over completely dumbfounded. “Did...did I blow it for you Shiki-kun?”
I turned back to him and shook my head. “No, not at all. You're timing was terrible but...it was bound to come up eventually. I...hope she'll come around.”
“Yeah, me too. Like I said, I like her. She's got spunk.”
We continued on to school without note. It wasn't until school let out that I realized I hadn't seen Ciel at all, not even hanging out with Satsuki or the third years. Remembering their conversation from yesterday, I decided to ask Noel about it.
“Ciel-chan? Oh, she's out sick today. Came in running a fever. A blond girl came by and had to walk her home.” Noel's voice faltered with her sweet act and had a clear tone of annoyance.
“Do you know how long she'll be out?”
Noel just stared at me blankly before her usual persona returned to her face. “Oh, I'm sure its just a small one. She'll be back in class by tomorrow or the next day. Don't worry about it Tohno-kun!”
I nodded and turned to leave. I had hoped to ask Ciel about my recent dream and about Arcueid, but this really put a hamper on things. I wonder if this means there'll be one less vampire hunter out tonight too?
As I left the room, Noel muttered something under her breath. It was almost inaudible, but somehow my ears were able to pick it up. It was French again, and it was something like...
'But you won't be around to see it.'
