suguru who works part time at a little café and notices you come in early morning and late at night… always either right when the store opens or when there’s only an hour left until closing . sometimes you’re waiting outside when he gets there by bike, and he greets you with a polite smile, watching you give him a sleepy little bow of your head :(((( i think he’s instantly a little enamored . always makes your drink with extra care because he knows you need it by the way you’re just abt to fall asleep in your seat lmao….. he admires how hard you work!!!!!!!!

i think it’d be cute if you drank so much coffee that he eventually gets worried 😭😭 like . that can’t be good for your poor heart . so one evening you’re sipping the last of your espresso with bags under your eyes, contemplating buying another one (with your already crumbling budget)….. and barista!sugu walks over to your table with a paper cup in hand :3c warm herbal tea . on the house, he says . your brain is too fried to deny it so you let him place it in your hands…… and even though it doesn’t satiate your coffee craving, it makes you feel so warm .

you sleep extra well that night <333 and the next morning you wait outside the café again, thanking him with a shy smile when he arrives, before hesitantly ordering another slightly less caffeinated beverage……. missing the way his lips curl up into a pleased little smile . not sure if he’d successfully de-caffeinate you or just make the coffee addiction worse but either way your budget stays strained and your heart stays full <333333 (save me barista!sugu)

This is weird, Jon thinks - then says it out loud.

"This is weird."

Tim isn't fazed by his bluntness. His eyes crinkle in the corners as he smiles.

"What is? The situation?"

Jon nods stifly. "Yes. Isn't that... fraternization?"

Tim laughs. "Come on, Jon, live a little. It's a date. Outside of work hours. It's not like I was hitting on you on the job."

"You did, though," Jon points out.

"Huh." Tim considers him, his index tapping thoughtfully against his chin. "So I did. Does that make you uncomfortable?"

"No," Jon answers without a thought, before frowning self-consciously. "No. It was - surprising, that's all."

"Why?"

Jon squirms on his chair, looks away. Shrugs. "I don't know. I'm not used to people flirting with me, I suppose."

Tim snorts. "You're not used to people being transparent about it, you mean. I saw plenty of people flirting with you. You're totally blind to it unless it kicks you in the ass."

"I-" Jon is at loss for words. How can he explain that he just doesn't understand the subtle cues that come with human courtship rituals? Now that he thinks about it, Georgie had been very blunt about her feelings too.

And then they had broken up, and it had hurt, and he'd preferred to focus on more tangible things after that. Like work.

"Don't tell me you think you're unattractive," Tim says, leaning over the table as if to mutter a secret.

And that's the other issue, isn't it? Jon's never been gifted with a great self-esteem, but he knows when someone is too pretty for him.

And Tim sure is.

Jon shrugs again, avoiding Tim's gaze. "I don't know. I just - I'm - me," he says, doing his best not to sound depreciating and failing.

"Yes, I am aware," Tim answers patiently. "That's why I asked you out. I find you interesting."

It sounds so natural, so true in his mouth, that Jon risks looking at him. Tim looks very serious, more serious than he's ever seen him. Maybe - maybe he could allow himself to enjoy their meal. Date. Whatever.

"Elias will disapprove," he says half-heartedly.

"Elias doesn't rule over our lives," Tim says. "Are you ready to order?"

Jon breathes in, forces an anxious smile on his face. It still feels wrong, but perhaps with time it will be...nice.
