but back to the meat of your ask. i believe i’ve talked a bit about this before (mostly pertaining to matt), having the weed make him not realize how much he’s snacking on… well, it can apply to alfred too! when he’s high, he doesn’t even think about his weight woes, or register the growing pounds around his middle.

if there’s periods of time, like the 80s/90s when he’s high 75% of the time (wall street cocaine went crazy back in the day), then he really has no clue about how much he’s eating and therefore gaining. alfred is quite oblivious because he’s already ignoring his weight or in denial of it most of the time (when he doesn’t get diet crazy anyway), but now it’s amped up to the extreme end of either being too placated or partying too much to care.

drug binges lead to food binges, as they do. his partner is all too willingly to make sure snacks and various sweets are stocked in the kitchen before he smokes or snorts the day away or what have you. alfred can eat even more like an animal when he’s conked out like this. but i also think when he spends an entire day high and relaxing, he naturally goes slower and gorges on a ton of food, just throughout the day. a big breakfast, big lunch, huge dinner…but also snacking nearly every hour.

in nationverse, i think alfred definitely would still do coke lmao, probably has it on hand in case he needs to slim down. but like with that, i think he has “phases” of using drugs rather than do it consistently… he hasn’t smoked weed in quite some years and then he takes it up again for three months, BAM he’s gained 100 pounds. he gets his fill of smoking and afterward the clarity of what happened finally hits. and he’s literally like “erm when did i get so huge…” DEFINITELY THE BEST.

and now, if we mix that with alfred having a very indulgent partner… he can for sure get so stressed trying to lose weight that they can convince him to calm down with some weed, he uses it too frequently and gets munchies he can’t remember, gorges like crazy, and…whatever weight he lost is promptly gained back, and then some! when he’s too big for the weight capacity of the gym machines (accidentally breaks one, or maybe the treadmill literally can’t start underneath him), he’s so upset and pouty that only weed and plenty of sugar can cure what ails him.

partner gets plenty of opportunities to stuff him with weed-filled baked goods as alfred gets increasingly too lazy to walk around or do much of anything… and the drugs just make him even lazier, permanent cycle as he gets completely massive, lmao.
