I don't really like people that denounce Alastor as a purely serious character. He's silly and people are allowed to play him a little silly. There's no correct way to play Alastor- we hardly know anything about the guy. A single season is not enough to parse out an entire character's personality.

I don't like people using the term w*ndigo to describe Alastor. The word invites a supreme evil and should never be used. It tends to disrespect the cultures that use it. It needs to be done with a LOT of care. I'm not saying you can't do it, I'm just saying it's common that people don't put thought into it.

Do your research on voodoo. Please. It's a legitimate religion, just like any other and it is so wrongfully painted in media as is. Personally my Alastor has no connection to it- I feel like him using it for evil is a continuation of painting a religion about love in an awful light. Do research on all the Iwa, their customs, their offerings, their ceremonies. Respect the place they come from by learning about them and making good decisions. Personally, I don't think Viv should have put this in his character to begin with.

You couldn't take Astarion to see Nosferatu in the theater. Not because it'd be triggering for him or anything. But because every five minutes, he'd turn to you with the saddest eyes imaginable and hysterically ask, "I don't look like that, right?! Most vampires don't look like that!" And you'd have to reassure him through the whole 132 minutes run time.

i have to say i think its kind of baffling when omelas is taken as a very literal trolley problem about a tortured kid instead of, like, pointedly making fun of the common idea that a positive world, social change, pleasure itself, must come with some sort of painful caveat in order for that happiness to hold meaning or exist in the first place... so many interpretations treat the idea of people walking away from a (very obviously hypothetical) utopia with an even more hypothetical evil underbelly as them lazily giving up on reforming Omelas the Real City, rather than them philosophically abandoning the idea that the (again, entirely theoretical) Omelas represents (that pleasure cannot exist without pain).

what is even the relevance of this to the "I would save the kid instead of abandoning it because I actually believe in changing the world" interpretations.

The trouble is that we have a bad habit, encouraged by pedants and sophisticates, of considering happiness as something rather stupid. Only pain is intellectual, only evil interesting. This is the treason of the artist: a refusal to admit the banality of evil and the terrible boredom of pain. If you can't lick 'em, join 'em. If it hurts, repeat it.
