Who's that strange metallic figure?...
Tumblr media
... Oh oh, It's Rex. He's taken off the spaceknight helmet and set aside his handheld accessory to grab a drink of water.

Day 31
@ everyone
"What was the theme?"
"Imagine you're the newest Scream Queen. Give your best face as though you've just seen the lovechild of Freddy Kreuger and Jason Voorhees."
"... I think some of your friends took it more seriously than others."
"Yeah, but I still love them all anyway."

◃◃◃ A Halloween trick or treat story. ☏ @beaglepuns ☏
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hallow's eve was a night peculiar to any other. Some say it's when the veil is at it's thinnest. Others think it a night of dangerous witchcraft of hexes and spells. For Ivy, though, it was special for a different reason. She could have a little fun. A little mischief even from afar.
There was not much of an oppurtunity for her to roam so freely around the neighborhood once more. 'A walking corpse, the living dead arose from the grave.' She was sure that's what the others would think if they even caught a glimpse of her. So on Halloween, with everyone locked up in their houses, with too much fear for night time wandering or stargazing.
It was perfect. Just the breath of fresh air she needed to stretch out her hooves. The lamb pranced, slowly spinning herself out in the dirt pathway. It felt so good to feel something other than cold concrete and damp, musty air. She hummed out loud, an old, familiar tune.
Of course, there was work to be done. With so much alone time, Ivy always had her nights out planned. She had just the dog in mind to pay a visit to. Swaying along the pathway, she sang in a hushed tone.
"Beautiful dreamer, wake onto me..."
Enough time had passed along for missing posters to have been taken down or forgotten. There's not much use of them in such a small town. They only bore as grim reminders. A stain, a smudging ink on their perfect, bright neighborhood. Of course they would be swept away after a month or so. Another secret, another hidden skeleton in the closet.
Ivy knew she was just one of them. A living, shameful secret kept hidden away from all of them. Most all of them..
Ivy slowly krept her way around Barnaby's house, hushing back down into a hum. Peeking up into his window, she spotted him asleep in bed. Perfect, she didn't even need to wait for him to fall asleep. With two clicks, the screen was off, and placed to the side. Her lips curled into a wry smile as her hands gently held the glass of the window, sliding it ever so slowly up. Just like she'd done a dozen times before.
A second hand slid through the gap. She held of the bottom of the window frame and pushed up. Ivy's eyes never left sight of Barnaby. She was quite lucky he was such a heavy sleeper, but she was never too careful. She couldn't get sloppy after this long. What was the fun in that?
Heaving herself up with a short hop, she pulled herself through the window. Being careful to keep her breaths soft and even as to not wake the sleeping dog. Bending her knee with a skillful slide and a step, she was inside. There was always such a rush from the risk of breaking inside her old friend's houses.
Ivy was giddy, smiling wide, like a kid in a candy store. It was time for the clown to get a few jokes played on him. Oh how she wished she could hide herself in his house to see how he'd react to what she had in store. She couldn't help giggling. A few short laughs muffled by her hand as her ears fluttered in excitement.
And so she set to work, ever so carefully. Placing marbles, one by one on the floorboards beside his bed. A bucket of water mixed with red dye hung precariously over a door. Faucet tampered with ever so slightly to spray water at it's next poor, unsuspecting victim.
She wondered how the comedian would react. Who would he suspect? Oh, the thrill of it all. Things had gotten much too dull for too long for her liking. Her only entertainment was to watch from afar, after all. Stirring the pot for a little drama was going to be her highlight for the next month or so.
Barnaby's several juggling pins connected to a tripwire, rigged to swing at him from the ceiling. An alarm clock wound for the early morning, placed ontop of the fridge. A second one placed behind books on a bookshelf.
Maybe it wasn't just for her amusement... At least not completely. She missed the time the pair had spent together. Was it truly missing him if those memories weren't her's? Better yet, would he still think of her as Dolly? Was Ivy even recognizable to her? Burned and charred, re-stitched and put together all over again. But she came back different, came back wrong.
Mouse traps placed into the kitchen cupboards. Ontop of plates and inside bowls. An opened carton of milk in the fridge tied by a short string to the door. A crackers placed underneath a rug.
There was a lull in her movments as she stopped, stalled. Ivy stood standing in the middle of the house, taking in the quiet. The different smell, how comfortable it was. She realized why she had wanted to come here now, why she favored his house over the others.
She frowned, and her eyebrows furrowed as she processed the feeling in her chest. A warmth she came to loathe pressing against her eyes. Ivy pondered for a moment, before she gave a soft sigh.
'A gift of all tricks without a treat would be cruel...' She thought carefully. 'I should throw a dog a bone, anyway.' Ivy gave a soft sigh, rummaging into her pockets. Placing three yellow butterscotch candies onto the kitchen table.
"Happy Halloween, Barnaby." Her voice whispered as she looked at the big sleeping dog.
With a careful exit, she closed the window behind herself, placing the screen back in place. She lingered for another moment, watching in wait. She stretched her hand out, as if to touch him, as her hooved fingered touched the house's siding.
Ivy murmured softly, as her fingers caressed the siding.
"Give them a good show."
