Rewatching the episode when the Hashira were first introduced and I want an angry thread of Nezuko with Sanemi or Obanai. She still holds a grudge, and I believe Nezuko headbutted Obanai too after trying to hold her back.

Hi! I saw you were doing Demon Slayer! How would our trio, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke, react to a Nezuko like male reader? The three had heard reports of a demon in a village that never leaves a certain house, it hasn't bothered anyone, but does frighten people at night just by seeing them. Only to discover, they have been trying to find descent food for their still human little sibling. Mom was killed, same with the other older siblings, and dad was thrown into the sun by Nezuko reader for trying to attack little sib after turning into a demon. I personally think Tanjiro would be having flashbacks about his own family. Reader tries so hard to keep his sanity for his sibling, and is actually keeping it pretty well. If he is killed and accepts his death is up to you. You don't have to do this, I just wanted a little bit of fluff to the end.

They were all quick to get to the village

Tanjiro had them all three split up to hopefully find you faster

Zenitsu didn't want to split up, while Inosuke was already running in a different direction

Zenitsu saw you first, you had walked calmly in front of him, but he didn't realize at first

Then Tanjiro, you said said a simple hi to him, and at first he said hi back

You had learned that acting normal st night would make it alittle harder for the people to realize you were a demon

But Tanjiro smelled you, but by the time he realized, you were gone

And Inosuke saw you, he stared right at you as you were walking around, he was the first to attack

You were shocked when you felt his sword slice your shoulder

You had then quickly made your way back to your house, losing Inosuke in the process

When you back to your little sibling Tanjiro and Zenitsu was with them

You had went into defense mode and shoved them away, but only shoved to not hurt the two

When they looked back at you, they saw your defenseive behavior, and Tanjiro realized you were like Nezuko

Zenitsu was freaking out and ran out over to Tanjiro

"Your like Nezuko?"

Tanjiro would say he would then explain what he meant and when he seen your small nod he smiled

He offered his hand and a safe place for you, with Tamayo

You were hesitant, especially when Inosuke came barging through the door, and straight at you

Of course Tanjiro stopped him before turning back at you

"I understand how you feel. My family was killed, and my sister turned into a demon. Please, Tamayo may be your best shoot, for the both of you"

That's when you accepted his offer

When you got to Tamayo, she was more than happy to take you in and help you

Inosuke was still pissed off and had a fit at Tamayos

But at the end of the day, Tanjiro wanted to help as many people, and demons as much as he could

How would kny characters hurt you in an argument?

Includes: Tanjiro Kamado, Kyojuro Rengoku, Giyuu Tomioka, Sanemi Shinazugawa

A/N: Hello readers! This is an idea I got from a hc post on here, I'm not sure who made it but I give credit to them for this hc idea. Anyways, I hope you enjoy!

KAMADO TANJIRO:

I feel like most arguments would start because of Tanjiro's protectiveness of his friends

He would probably start scolding you for doing something he thought was reckless while fighting a demon

Especially if Nezuko we're to be the one to save you and get injured, he would probably be pissed off

Tanjiro is the type of person to bottle his emotions up, so he really just snapped at you

He seems like the person who yells and cries during an argument

He would bring up the fact that you had jumped into danger without thinking, calling you selfish for thinking only about the battle and not of your friends

If someone had gotten injured protecting you, like Nezuko, she wouldn't be able to say anything since she was healing and unable to stick up for you

You would just be too shocked to even say anything to defend yourself, along with everyone else, since no one has seen Tanjiro like this before

Once he finishes, he simply excuses himself quietly, saying that he's tired from dealing with this

Bonus!

Zenitsu would immediately rush to your side to comfort you as tears spilled down your cheeks

This would be especially hard if you had past problems with arguments and yelling

RENGOKU KYOJURO:

Now Rengoku seems like a type of person to be less of a yelling type at the beginning, but slowly builds up his anger to the point that he starts yelling

Usually the arguments are about how Shinjuro treats Rengoku and Senjuro, with Rengoku insisting that he can convince his father to be better

You try to tell him that Rengoku should ask for help to deal with his father, but Rengoku stubbornly disagrees

His demeanor during arguments is different, his eyes looking darker and it seems like he loses his friendly glow

When Rengoku argues back, he usually uses something your sensitive about, like if you had a bad relationship with your parents

He would claims that he's at least trying to fix his relationship with his dad, hitting you hard and causing you to go speechless

rengoku usually just stomps away from the fight when he's done saying his mind, leaving you teary eyes and with a broken heart

TOMIOKA GIYUU:

Giyuu always wants to avoid arguing as much as possible, always shutting you down when you want to talk about some problems

This causes you to get frustrated and start bombarding him with questions, like why is he avoiding their problems

Giyuu seems like the type of person to talk more than yell, but his voice is still strained as if he's holding back from yelling at you

Giyuu knows exactly where to hit you to make it hurt, taunting you about problems that you could never solve

His words would go to the point that he makes you burst out crying and run out of the room

He immediately regrets whatever he said in the argument, and ends up going to bed alone, covering himself in the sheets as tears of regret slide down his face

Bonus!

Giyuu wouldn't be able to face you for a few days after the a t in fear of hurting you again with his words

It takes a lot of reassurance from you to get him outside again

SHINAZUGAWA SANEMI:

Sanemi is the type of dude yo go all out during arguments, yelling and screaming at you, even sometimes going as far as you throw things into the ground in rage

You both seem like you're at each other's necks, not backing down from proving your side right

Sanemi seems like the type of person to call you degrading names, such as coward, selfish, etc.

You try to stay calm at first, but you have yo resort to yelling to get your point across

Sanemi is usually arguing to you about staying out of his and Genya's relationship, saying that it is non of your business

You end up running out of breath before he does, simply listening to him yell at you for a few more minutes before he storms out the room and slams the door

By the time he's gone, tears are already streaming down your face, breathless and tired from screaming your lungs out as you collapse to your knees, sobbing

Sanemi’s delusion, and how it affects his relationships.

This is mainly focused on kanae and masachika, tanjiro, giyuu, and of course genya. If you ship sanekana and are uncomfortable with them being portrayed as mildly unhealthy then feel free to scroll, this is no way meant to hate on sanekana in itself, this is just my personal analysis of their relationship. Keep in mind that nearly all of this is coming from the ‘signs from the wind’ light novel about sanemi, since we didn’t get many interactions of them in the main series.

To start this off, i’m not actually going to be saying sanemi is a good person, he’s a morally grey character, he’s done bad things while having good intentions. (attempting to blind genya, neglecting him, etc) To say he is a perfectly good person would be taking away a lot of his story. Something i feel gets overlooked a lot, is the fact sanemi had a mass amount of trauma before he even had his first encounter with a demon, yes this is to do with his father. Sanemi grew up in an abusive household which definitely changed his morals and understanding of how things work. After his father passed, he was really experiencing being in a safe environment for the first time in his life. He had a lot of responsibility that he shared with genya at the time too.

Throughout his life the only person he could look up too was his mother, the fact she protected his siblings even though she was so small physically. Then all of a sudden he was met with having to kill her to protect genya. Sanemi was absolutely not okay, he was hit with another load of trauma. To cope with this sanemi made up an entire life plan in his mind, so nothing could spiral out of control. This was of course making sure genya had a family and did not join the corps and die. Which is why sanemi tried everything in his power to make genya leave. This coping mechanism is a delusion.

Because of this delusion he fails to see the trauma that genya went through as well. Sanemi himself thinks he’s too far gone, he’s too burdened with the trauma. So instead he wants genya to grow old and have a good life, and he will do everything in his power to make sure that happens and genya is safe. While this delusion is mainly focused around genya, it affects his other relationships too. The people sanemi was comfortable around reminded him of his family (masachika and kanae, masachika being his brother and kanae being his mother) the people that sanemi hated, (tanjiro and giyuu) reminded sanemi of himself.

let’s start with tanjiro, when sanemi first met tanjiro it’s about nezuko, a female family member that’s turned into a demon. Something they both have in common. As well tanjiro was actively fighting to save his sister, Even though she’s a demon, it clearly reminded sanemi of himself. Giyuu is also an interesting one, sanemi misunderstood giyuu, because giyuu always distanced himself, we know this was because he thought he didn’t deserve to be a hashira, while sanemi thought it was because giyuu was stuck up. He misunderstood giyuu because he’d rather die then show that much vulnerability openly, giyuu is unintentionally wearing his pain, and that’s pissing sanemi off, he’s a reflection of sanemi’s pain. Something sanemi doesn’t want to admit.

Now let’s contrast that with masachika and kanae, masachika was the boy who recruited sanemi into the demon slayer corps. He had to try a little but eventually he did get into sanemi’s heart, and became sanemis brother figure. Sanemi ended up losing masachika as well, he was so kind, like genya. Sanemi knew he couldn’t let genya die in the corps like masachika did. Which again just fueled his delusion, wanting to keep genya out of the corps even more. Now with kanae, people do often say their relationship is romantic, because of gyomeis view on sanemi, though, i do think they’re very plausible as platonic. with what we are given.

Every parallel between kanae and sanemi are about sanemi’s mother, her hands, the fact kanae wanted to be kind to demons, just like how his mother was kind to their father, it’s the reason sanemi was so comfortable around her because of how similar to his mother she was. He also acknowledged that she was an older sibling too, but so very different from him, she trained her younger sister (shinobu) and let her join the corps. Not only just after that sanemi talked about how he wasn’t interested in women thirsting over him if he became a hashira, and in the fanbook it was also stated he was dense to romance. At most it was a crush, if it was sanemi didn’t realize it himself.

what we know about sanemi and kanae, i don’t think it would’ve been particularly healthy ether, the reason sanemi was only so calm with kanae in the first place was because she reminded him of his mother. Which wouldn’t be getting him out of his delusion, it would be temporary pacifying him IN his delusion, sanemi did indeed need a slap to the face. He needed actual tough love, something to pull him out of that delusion, kanae was shown to be kind and not being able to speak up for him when he was acting out, in the long run sanemi’s mental health would probably end up hurting kanae too.

it’s also worth pointing out that kanae gets watered down to sanemi’s love interest, while she doesn’t have many moments she’s clearly more then just a love interest to sanemi, she’s the reason for shinobus character development. I don’t think she should be watered down to a love interest when we barely got that in the main story.

overall, this is my analysis and isn’t meant to make you stop shipping sanekana, it’s just personally why i don’t ship it and an explanation of sanemi’s character.

Thinking about how Uzui had to watch everyone he cared about die before him. First 3 of his siblings die during there fathers harsh shinobi training, then six he killed himself during a deathmatch where all of them were masked. Then Kyojuro died next, and the rest of the hashira except Sanemi and Giyuu during a battle he couldn't participate and help them in. Then of course Sanemi and Giyuu do die on the same year and four years later Tanjiro, someone he grew closer with also succumbs to death way too young.

Thats why Tengen's line of "Just how many lives do you think ive let slip through my fingers?" hits so hard because his life is just death. Everyone he loves is bound to die and he cant do anything about it.

So I made a little list of hcs on how he copes;

What uzui does at each of his friends graves;

Rengoku; He often has a picnic beside his grave, bringing along his wives and having a feast with all of kyojuros favorite foods, like sweet potatoes and bento boxes. He is the hashiras grave he visits the most and often talks to it and updates him on how life is going.

Shinobu: He brings the flashiest flowers he finds and brings them to her every year because it reminds him of both her and Kanae.

Muichiro: It is hard for him to visits his grave, especially when he sees it adorned with a picture of him and his twin brother when he was younger. But he makes sure to see it every year, and gives him a little gift, like a folded paper crane since he knew he like origami. He feels guilty that he didn't fight in the battle when muichiro, the youngest pillar, did.

Mitsuri: Like everyone else still alive, they visits her grave annually on her birthday and bring mochis to celebrate because it was her favorite food. However when everyone else dies, he makes sure to keep up the tradition with Nezuko.

Iguro Obanai: When he visits his grave he always teases him about how he's doing with Mitsuri in the afterlife. After that he sits down and talks about his snake Kaburamaru and updates him about his daily life.

Gyomei: He prays at his grave. Not that he particularly agrees with it or is religious, he just knows that Gyomei would appreciate it.

Sanemi: He visits both of the Shinazugawa brothers on the same day, since they are both buried next to each other. He tells him that he misses him because he knows Sanemi will be pissed by the sappiness and also because in truth, he does.

Giyuu: He usually sits down and talks for hours to him about how everyone is doing, whats going on and other mindless useless things. he knows that Giyuu doesn't like to talk so just like when he was alive, he can just sit and listen and enjoy the company.

Tanjiro: He always bows to Tanjiro's grave and thanks him, for saving his wives and being a friend for all those years. he tells him about Nezuko and Kanao and tells them that they all miss him very much.

Makio, Suma, Hinatsuru: When they all die before he does, he curses the gods for keeping him alive. He makes sure to have there graves next to his estate and sits next to there graves for hours until sundown. Sometime he even sleeps next to them.

I am not sure his wives dying before him is canon but Ive heard it from multiple people so I will assume so. Either way, Uzui's life is too tragic and I just cant get over it. He can never protect the people he loves the most. That man deserves a break from all the death and hug from all of his wives (+rengoku.) But it seems like Gotouge had different plans.

What if during Giyuu and Sanemi’s fight, Fairy Tanjirou thinks they’re actually trying to harm each other and flies over to stop them (Nezuko tries to keep him back) and VERY VERY nearly gets obliterated. The force waves of the fight does injure his wings a bit and fairy wings are SUPER delicate

They stop as soon as they hear Tanjirou's cry; they hadn't noticed him until that point and now they're both worried and a little bit scared.

Giyuu takes him with one hand and after Tanjirou assures him that he's (mostly) fine he tells him he won't be able to fly for a couple of days because his wing is injured.

He also insists that it was his fault for not realizing what was going on and he asks them not to worry about him.

Sanemi feels terrible, even though he doesn't show it, and since he's the fastest out of the two, he takes Tanjirou to the butterfly estate.

Shinobu, Aoi and the butterfly girls do their best to patch his wing up and make sure he doesn't have more injuries. He eventually turns into human size because it's easier for them to take care of him, although it hurts him a bit.

When Obanai finds him, he gets so pissed (Kaburamaru is furious too) he takes him back to his own estate and forbids Sanemi and Giyuu from seeing Tanjirou for a while.

Half-Demon! Tanjiro AU Masterpost

(This has been my comfort AU for a while)

I personally love the idea of Tanjiro having some properties of a demon, but he can still keep his humanity. So here are some details about the AU! (Keep in mind that I haven’t finished the manga)

In this AU, Tanjiro couldn’t fully cure his demon side even after defeating Muzan, but he was able to regain his humanity. His body changed quite a bit and some of the changes are:

He doesn’t need to eat people and he could use his blood to make other demons regain their humanity.

He can bring back dead demons by rebuilding them using their Blood Demon Art remnants

He can also turn people (both dead and alive) into half demons

However, he cannot bring back a human if their head was destroyed

And he can’t bring back demons that don’t have a Blood Demon Art

He can control water to fight off hostile demons and to defend himself. Tanjiro can also use it to heal people.

When he’s pissed, Tanjiro can turn water into fire and use it as a heatwave (he’s only done this once though)

Tanjiro grew quite a bit. Now he’s 6 feet and 4 inches tall

When he is ready for battle, his fangs and claws come out and his eyes become those of a demon.

When he isn’t fighting, he just looks like a normal human with tiny micro fangs.

When it comes to sunlight, he can go out in the daytime, but his skin is extremely sensitive. He can’t stay out for too long, otherwise he gets an extreme sunburn.

After every battle, he needs to regain his strength by sleeping.

Tanjiro can also purr! He usually does it when he’s happy, sick, or injured.

He will occasionally hold someone who is sick or injured close and purr so that they can heal faster

The power of the blood demon art gets halved when they become half demons. This has angered quite a few demons when Tanjiro tried to convert them

Tanjiro still prefers to use his sword in battle. He only uses his fangs and claws if he has to.

He’s quite cuddly and his bigger stature makes him a giant teddy bear

Demons can communicate using a language of growls (it’s really cute!) and now Tanjiro can do that too

They can also communicate telepathically with Tanjiro like Muzan was able to do

When demons suffer from panic attacks or get too flustered, they lose control of their voice and they start growling, roaring and crying

Half demons also have human disguises, so they can walk through villages with no suspicions

He is the new Demon King! It take him a minute to get the hang of it, but he figures it out!

Tanjiro also is incredibly proud of the demons who’ve made progress

Everything here applies to Nezuko too, except the height change, water powers, ability to bring back demons, and the role as Demon King

In this AU, Tanjiro and Zenitsu are dating while Inosuke and Nezuko are just vibing and doing their own thing.

Wendy meeting the Kamado twins part 2!

Tanjiro is at the Butterfly Mansion to see Inouske and Zenitsu, and Zenitsu screaming about disliking to have medicine while Aoi was annoyed.

As Wendy appeared she healed Zenitsu and Inouske wounds, Zenitsu is in simp mode again XD he jumps off of the bed quickly and came to Wendy to ask her marrying him made Wendy embarrassed and overwhelming unsure what to do, Tanjiro is disappointed with Zenitsu as Tanjiro was grabbing Zenitsu’s shoulder and pulling him away as he said “Zenitsu stop it, you’re making her uncomfortable.”

As Tanjiro turned around noticing the Tokito Twins staring at Zenitsu with their angry glare, Tanjiro gasped slightly and nervously said Zenitsu should run away. When Zenitsu turned around and saw the Tokito twin’s rage glare at him made him screaming in fear.

Yuichiro says “hands.off.of.her.now.” And Muichiro drags Wendy behind him and his older twin to protect her from Zenitsu.

-Wendy wasn’t sure of what to make of the two young men she had been asked to heal, after they had both arrived with Tanjiro and Nezuko, after a mission where all three of the boys had been severely injured.

-Inosuke was very handsome, but from what Shinobu told her, he had a mouth on him, and that he would be at least a little charming if he just stayed silent all the time and wore a boar’s head for some reason.

-Zenitsu would talk in his sleep, mumbling out Nezuko’s name like he was worried about her, which warmed her heart, thinking that he was a good person.

-It wasn’t until he woke up that she learned this wasn’t the case, when he sat up suddenly in bed when she walked in, bringing Inosuke some more food who cheered before chowing down.

-He immediately threw her off by leaping out of bed and grasping her hands between his own, kneeling before her, looking so lovestruck as he grinned up at her, making her uncomfortable.

-Tanjiro knew that this was going to end badly, so he tried to do damage control quickly, approaching Zenitsu, putting his hand on his friend’s shoulder, “Zenitsu- she’s uncomfortable. Please let her go.”

-Zenitsu just grinned goofily at Tanjiro, “Don’t be silly Tanjiro- we were meant to be!” Wendy was stammering, her face bright red as she tried to get away from him, with little luck, his grip was stronger than it looked.

-A pair of dark auras appeared behind Zenitsu and Tanjiro immediately stepped back, holding his hands up, he had tried to help, taking a seat on Inosuke’s bed who was still stuffing his face.

-Two hands, one from each twin, came to Zenitsu’s shoulders, who turned, still grinning goofily before he froze, his look changing to one of shock, then quickly fear, seeing the two very pissed off Hashira twins there.

-Yuichiro was grinding his teeth, seething as he saw the tears pricking at the corners of Wendy’s eyes, “Let. Her. Go. Now!” and as soon as her hands were free, Muichiro rushed forward, scooping Wendy up into his arms, holding her to her chest as she relaxed, at least a bit as Yuichiro had Zentisu by the front of his yukata, threatening him.

-Inosuke knew that Wendy was strong, as he had seen her fight before, and to see these two Hashira defending her, “You two must be really strong if you’re defending Twin-Tails- FIGHT ME!!” as he leapt up onto the bed.

-Tanjiro grabbed the back of Inosuke’s pants, trying to hold him back while Wendy’s eyes were swirls, overwhelmed by everything happening.

-The twins made the decision that one if not both of them had to stay with her at all times, since nobody wanted to respect Wendy’s boundaries or the knowledge that she was already taken.

I like to headcanon that the demons from hell(Hazbin) there presence overpowers the demons from KNY. For example Kokushibo or Muzan could be near by but the demon slayer’s wouldn’t know because Morningstar!Reader’s presence overpowers both of them. Muzan would definitely know that there’s a demon more powerful then him.(It’s scars him but also pissed him off)

Imagine your a demon about to kill a demon slayer to only stop because a super powerful demon is nearby, you know it’s not Nezuko so you decide to attack only to see your life flash before your eyes as the eldest child of Lucifer fucking kills you for attacking these demon slayers :3

Otherwise, both young men are rooting for you and Inosuke, and the last one might snap that he doesn't need any pity luck and that can again make you laugh.

You can be clownish but in reality, you're also a courageous and independent woman, and not only that, but you are very clever also!

When you take control, everything is done near perfection, but you don't mind giving up that control once in a while or more often if it means that you can sit back and relax.

Inosuke is impressed by you. You're very pretty but he doesn't care about looks as much as he does care about personality... And while you tend to laugh at him, you make him feel all fluffy fluffy when you smile at him or compliment him.

But those piercings of yours...! Did it hurt? They look like they hurt! You are way tougher than he thought!

Friends and family mean everything to you so you hold Inosuke, Zenitsu, Tanjiro, and even his little sister Nezuko close to you. Spending time with them is time well spent and you wouldn't trade it for anything.

You're also quite a bit taller than Inosuke, a thing he might see as a challenge. He will try and prove to you just how strong he is and if he doesn't get his point across, he might challenge you.

As time passes, Inosuke starts to seek you out to challenge you more often but this is because he doesn't understand dating. Still, you accept his challenges happily if it means that the two of you can spend time together and have a laugh or two.

Is it just me or is sanemi nicer in the Hashira surplus au?

In this au, Sanemi is nicer with some people (particularly Giyuu) but is largely the same Hostile Guy with most people (especially Genya and Tanjiro). The only time he could be called soft is when he is with Kanae, who he has a great respect for and considers to be a much better person than himself. They are quite close.

I've touched upon Sanemi and Giyuu's dynamic here and made a comic about his opinion on Giyuu after their mission (precanon) here.

Essentially, it is widely known within the current hashira that both Shinobu and Giyuu are just as qualified as them. Shinobu wants to be promoted so she can be included on meetings and give her input directly (rather than through Kanae) and because she deserves it. She makes comments to the current hashira quite a lot and tries to arrange meetings with the master to discuss this but so far has had no luck. Sanemi thinks this is rude and is only quiet about this because she is Kanae's younger sister. Shinobu knows this and it pisses her off, but ignored it. They're at a stalemate.

Sanemi prefers Giyuu because he doesn't fight to be acknowledged or a pillar. He hasn't worked out that this is self esteem related as they don't spend enough time together for that. He thinks Giyuu dismissing his own talents is annoying, but as long at they're not discussing the topic, they get along. This is largely due to the fact that Giyuu is much less inclined to ignore people and has better social skills in this au. They've even sparred a couple of times which is unbelievable to Sabito who can't convince Giyuu to join his sparks with Rengoku, Mitsuri and Uzui. (This is because the more hashira there are, the more intimidating it is. He also has never gone on a mission with those three unlike Sanemi.)

Despite his improved relationship with Giyuu, Sanemi is still Like That in the hashira meeting after the spider mountain arc (I don't know the actual name for this arc whoops). I haven't decided if I want Giyuu to be in the meeting yet but either way Sanemi still provokes the siblings, fights with Tanjiro and stabs Nezuko. She proves herself as in canon. After this meeting, his opinion of Giyuu drastically shifts from "just as worthy of the pillar title" to "too soft and can't be relied upon even if he is very skilled".

He also has a minor crisis when he finds out Kanae was involved in the Nezuko situation because he looks up to her and cannot agree with this move. It goes against his principles and the corps itself. For a short while after the meeting, he refuses to talk to her and is even harsher with the other demon slayers he interacts with/rescues on missions. Ouch. Good thing he doesn't see Genya in this time, or he might do something he'd regret.

I honestly don't know~ maybe one of the reasons I'm die-hard for rntn out of all of my ships is because I tolerate most headcanon lmfao even the darkest or dead dovey... idk. I wrote and made some questionable stuff myself so usually, if there's an au or trope I can't get behind, it's just how the author/artist executes it and if I have the energy, I'll try it with my own version. I get to make something I like and rntn gets more content

Like for example, I think Kyoujurou is not as experienced as Tanjirou just because he's older. There's barely anything he accomplished romantically or sexually around those five years gap. He's as young and awkward as Tan. But I can see why people would think that. He's adored by so many people. But so was Tanjirou and I feel, if Tanjirou becomes a charcoal burner for a bit longer, it could be the other way around since Kyoujurou is a bit intimidating.

Hey, maybe he learned everything just from three volumes of shunga and erotic novels!

💭 - In a world where the train ride lasted longer, what do Rengoku and Tanjiro dream of?

this is a very interesting question tbh. To make the train longer, that means Nezuko had to get out of her box way later so she didn't knock Tanjirou's forehead and cried when it bled. As for Kyoujurou, his dream did last the longest out of all of them and I know it was for the kamabokos' screen time, but I still love to speculate on what takes him so long to wake up.

I like the idea of Tanjirou noticing the uncanniness of the dream. Maybe Nezuko finally came down from picking veggies and he asked things like, "where are your nozzles?" or wondered why Nezuko's eyes looked weird (since he got used to her demon eyes). I imagine he had to live till the next day and had to go down to sell charcoal and heard whispers of villagers about a missing person and started sniffing the air for a trace of something he didn't know but he had a bad feeling about. I wanted to see him realize that he had been living with demons all his life and that slow and damning realization is enough to wake him up.

But as for Kyoujurou, I like to think that he succumbs further and deeper into his dream instead. And I feel he'll just dream about waiting.

Like somehow time stretches and no crow called him for a mission until the sky turns dark and he had to eat dinner with his family which is just filled with silence and awkwardness with Kyoujurou occasionally trying to strike up a conversation with Senjurou about school or something. His father don't usually eat with them but maybe in that particular day, Shinjurou got out of his room to join them and when Kyoujurou tried to strike up a conversation, which sadly only revolves around demon slaying, it pissed Shinjurou off and he went on ranting about Kyoujurou taking this too seriously or wondering why Kyoujurou didn't have anything else to talk about.

Someone told me Kyoujurou is the only one who has a shitty dream lol and I get it but it's more like it purposely mimics his real life not only because Enmnu won't blow his cover but aEnmu's blood demon art probably also deems it the life he "wanted". Like, to Kyoujurou it's impossible to accept a different reality. It'll be too uncanny for him and he'll wake up sooner.

But then, I'm gonna twist canon a bit, during the last scene of Mugen Train he said he remembered to tell Tanjirou to visit his family home. So as the dream continues, he started to daydream. How he wished he had a tsuguko. He wished in his bleak world, he met someone new that could maybe give a bit of color. He's grateful for his family but he said so himself, he's constantly worried about Senjurou and that he had it worse than Kyou, he really felt the family fell apart after Ruka died, and he never smiled whenever talking to Shinjurou.

Somehow he saw flashes of checkered haori like when Tan saw flashes of Nezuko's box. After dinner, he chased after that mysterious back around the very quiet and maze-like neighborhood and he still didn't see it coming. Like he still didn't realize he was under BDA attack. Cuz I think, in Enmu's logic, Tanjirou could be the "dream that he wanted". Like, maybe at first it seemed he wanted life to be the way it is, but apparently, he also has his own desire which is to meet someone new.

He might not remember Tanjirou's name or face but he had this strong feeling when he saw dream-Tanjirou and it pushes him further and further away from reality.

Maybe by the time he catches Tanjirou's shadow, the whole world crumbles because the girl finally pierced his spiritual core OR when he catches Tanjirou's shadow, he could hear Tanjirou's voice around him but not from dream Tanjirou, but from real Tanjirou who was trying to wake him up, screaming his name.

☀️ - How did you watch Mugen train for the first time? (In theaters, at home…)

Watched it at home on some illegal streaming site (I haven't installed netflix at that time yet), I don't remember much but I think I watched Mugen Train first before finishing season 1 LMAO like I literally didn't know Tanjirou that well but I respect him for the down-badness.

Ranked based how I felt about their characterization in canon, and how it was executed

The “basically perfect” tier means both the characterization and the execution of the concepts/themes associated with the character were done expertly and in a personally satisfactory way. There may be some things I could complain about, but it is very nitpicky (like the Mother Spider Demon having a weirdly exposed design). Also Murata is great.

The “kinda liked you” tier is for characters where I felt their characterizations served the narrative in a functional way, but it was a tad rushed, a little weirdly executed, or a bit underdeveloped. For the Daughter Spider Demon, she’s a special case where her anime counterpart got more screentime and I liked the additions to her backstory, which pushed her from “neutral” to “kinda liked you”.

The “neutral” tier is for characters I didn’t particularly care about. Like, they may be important to other characters, but that’s pretty much all they got going for them. Most background characters are here. Muichirou is in this tier because while their story is alright, the way it was included in the story (shittily) kinda makes me upset, but it’s not completely abhorrent. For Kyojuro, I just didn’t like the whole message he was sending in general, it’s very personal.

(Honestly if I were to redo this, I’d knock Muichirou and Kyojuro down to the “could do a LOT better” tier.)

The “could do a LOT better” tier is for characters where I get actively annoyed thinking about how they were handled. Honestly, this tier and the last one could be the same, but I separated them based on how much work I personally had to do to improve them in the Rewrite. For this one, they have the pieces, an interesting backstory, maybe an interesting conclusion to their arc, but its rushed or poorly done or went in a direction that muddled any themes in this story (this point is mostly relevant to Tanjirou). Uzui is also here because while his arc is nice, Gotouge kept adding weird problematic shit to his character for literally no reason other than comedic relief which wasn’t even funny (He, Obanai, and Zenitsu deserve reparations for this).

The “what did gotouge do to you?” tier is for characters that I literally could not stand in terms of characterizations, and in the case for my Rewrite, had to COMPLETELY rework in order to have something that didn’t piss me off (I’m looking at you, Muzan, Kagaya, and Nezuko).
