Many in Atlas knew of her tale when she was just considered a "Leftenant" by her C.O. but when a Titan attack on Mantle left the city undefended she immediately struck back with her mech squadron... and only made herself a hero after her squadron was destroyed she wounded and believed to have killed the Titan.......yet over time she would seek more glory even twisting some parts in her reports to make her feel like the hero.....as a few Atlesian soldiers stated.
"Oh that Colonel? She's the definition of a damn Glory Hog."
"Inflated Ego, praising Atlas.. she may have been a veteran of the Brumelian Atlesian War.... but she only participated in one battle and lost to a pro-pilot."
"While yeah, she takes things seriously, but Atlas too has proven that it can get smacked or bullied around by the other nations especially Brumel. Even worse is that outside sources can even harm us... and she still lectures about how Atlas is invincible."
Yet behind all those insults is someone who has held her head high... even from her... humble origins, but now has turned its back on it not once but twice......This person is.
"Colonel Caroline Cordovin, head commander of the Argus base, veteran of the Brumelian-Atlesian War, The Hero Who Slain A Grimm Titan and yes.....soldier of the glorious nation of pure ingenuity, Atlas!!!!"
THE ONE WITH FALSE PRIDE
CAROLINE CORDOVIN
Only On Strykingback will you-
"Join us! For the sake of all who wish to be underneath the banner of Atlas!!!!"
Ugh.... Will you Stryke Back?

Sometimes it just hits me like a ping-pong ball to the face that afaik, Aymeric is the first person to bother asking WoL what they want for themselves, the first person to even consider that WoL's wishes and dreams might not actually be the same as their duties as a Scion, and
brother I am on the floor crying abt it
"Now that the dust has settled, what will you do? Not as a Scion, I mean, but...what do you want for yourself?"

It's really interesting that Wynne actually has quite a measured, bordering on downright sympathetic response to hearing what Jowan did in the prologue -- if the mage Warden says "I still can't believe Jowan was that stupid", her answer is something like a thoughtful "Stupid, or desperate, or merely curious?". She seems to think of Jowan as a kid who got in over his head, rather than any less charitable interpretation. I do believe she genuinely is as against blood magic as she publicly expresses and as the Circle party line demands, but as a private person she clearly has a more nuanced and potentially kinder understanding of the reasons why someone might resort to it, at the very least.
(related: when she says that part about Irving telling her what happened, there's no dialogue option in the first stage of the conversation (except choosing the 'leaving the conversation' one) that doesn't net you +2 approval! no matter how the warden feels about it, she is ready to recieve it. I think that says something sweet about how Wynne conceptualizes younger mages and the honest real affection she has for them. if you didn't snitch on jowan and say you stand by that decision, though? +3 approval, apparently! what Wynne says and what Wynne thinks is not always the same thing indeed, her idea of where personal loyalty and integrity stands vis-a-vis a mage's responsibility to the circle may be more flexible than she'd have people believe, you'll be surprised to learn lol)
I have always liked wynne and found her interesting, in all her hypocrisies and her earnest care, but with slightly older eyes she's extra fascinating to me in the same ways that Iron Bull is -- seeing someone whose mind has had hollows carved out in it by the need for double-think and compartmentalization imposed by the oppressive systems and ideologies they live under, and the quiet fight of the self to still preserve vital parts of itself that the system deems unacceptable in the hidden backstage areas of the soul, as it were. (and for both of them part of that self is love and protectiveness of specific other people, beyond what their 'role' dictates is acceptable for them.) I think Wynne has managed to sneak more of her internal self through the meatgrinder relatively intact than Bull overall, but it's the same logic underlying it, for me, and it makes me feel such intense affection and compassion for them both to see how hard they try

first line tag
I actually wrote something for once. Thanks @loopyhoopywrites for the tag 😘
You get a fairly long one cause uhhhh I make the rules ok thank you
The second target was - somehow - more inhospitable than the first.
To get in, Clem kicked the front door in. When they had warned Fina they were going to do it, she had been excited, expecting something epic - a mighty battle with an impenetrable slab that they emerged from, exhausted but victorious. As it was, the door gave in after the first collision, rotten wood splitting inwards easily.
The disappointment must have shown on her face. After picking their way in and holding out a hand to help her, Clem smiled. “Don’t worry. There will be other doors. You can beat the next one down, if you want.”
featuring characters I’ve literally never talked about on this blog isn’t that cool!
tagging; @albatris @polyacerine @kaatiba @druidx @ace-malarky @gailynovelry and uhhh @daisywords

Curse of spotto, your background characters sometimes become secondary POVs.
at this rate i doubt Sparrows can count as a background character anymore...... goddammit, this was supposed to be about Fish and then Zephyr's whole situation/the Iterators in the Secondary Homeland and now i'mma here sittin with a lil birdie on my lap mulitple thousand years before any of the original ideas can get into the motion
Every feckin time i get asked about Ancients either for the biology purposes or the culture or whatever i take a moment to go "man... i did Not plan to become fandom Ancients central blog...... what am i doin here"
but like eh fuck it, i Do get to poke the spirituality and religion of the Ancients like this real well too, so i'm content with it sjgksmklcsdm

We’ve talked in the past about Julia’s red shirt (in her season 1/season 4 outfit) showing her sympathy towards Carmen. What about other parts of her outfits?
First, to contrast with the red shirt peeking through her dark pantsuit, we have Julia’s ACME suit.
[ID : two cropped screenshots from the 2019 show Carmen Sandiego. The first one shows Julia Argent on the train in India, in her dark suit with red shirt outfit. The second one shows Julia in Rio de Janeiro, in her ACME suit. End ID]
The ACME suits, being uniforms, are all the same (the biggest difference being skirts for the women vs pants for the men), the same way the agents are asked for uniformity, conformity and following orders.
The suits have no color apart from a navy so dark it’s close to black - in fact, depending on the lighting they look almost black and white. Quite like their way of thinking.
[ID : a screenshot from the 2019 show Carmen Sandiego. Agent Zari and Random White Agent stand on either side of a door. They are in the shadows and their uniforms look dark and desaturated. End ID]
As I noted on a previous post, at the same time Julia receives her suit and as such lets go of her red shirt, she is asked to renounce her feelings that Carmen is innocent. Season 2, where she almost exclusively wears the ACME uniform, is the one where Julia briefly doubts Carmen and struggles to reconcile following her superior’s orders with her convictions. Ultimately, when she does not manage it, she resigns (season 3) and as such goes back to her red shirt outfit. It is in that outfit that she teams up with Carmen in a substantial way in season 4.
Other agents (and, notably, agent Zari, the most featured ACME agent apart from Julia and Chase) tend to wear black gloves. In line with their behavior, this suggests keeping a distance with their environment, refusing to feel things too deeply. Julia doesn’t wear gloves, however, not even in Stockholm where the weather would definitely justify it. Despite Chief's insistance, Julia keeps paying attention to her feelings.
Then, Julia’s glasses. Her glasses in seasons 2-3 are ACME regulation eyewear : once again, they’re part of the uniform, so the same model as the other ACME agents. Big, bulky, they’re almost rectangle in shape, all sharp angles : this suggests rigidity and an absence of flexibility in ACME’s mentality. Also note the dark lenses : they symbolically obscure the vision.
[ID : a screenshot from the 2019 show Carmen Sandiego. In Indonesia, Zari and Random White Agent stand against the sky. Their glasses' lenses are noticeably very dark. End ID]
And what about Julia’s original glasses, the ones she wears before joining ACME and those she returns to as she leaves ? They are the exact opposite of the ACME glasses : round and clear, what you need to look at the world as it is.
[ID : a cropped screenshot from the 2019 show Carmen Sandiego. In San Francisco, Julia wears her red shirt outfit with her round glasses. End ID]

Speaking of book recommendations, I just finished reading "Annapolis Autumn: Life, Death, And Literature At The U.S. Naval Academy" by Bruce E. Fleming (he was/is a teacher at the Acedemy) and I thought it was interesting. It gives a glimpse at some workings of the academy but also what is like to be a civilian in a military environment specially when one doesn't exactly drink from the same kool aid (hope that's how the expression works, I'm not American)
i will look into it!! But now i get nervous reading about the usna because i don’t wanna know how inaccurate my portrayal of it is. Lmfao. Posting for the rec
