On this note, suppose you do want to know what weapon would be useful against huge armored monsters, consider heavy cavalry as the closest real-life analogue:
A medieval armored knight, between the warhorse, the knight, both of their armors, and the weapons, would be a solid ton of armored menace and murderous intent -- and you, Infantry Conscript #16,849, had to figure out how to deal with something huge, fast, strong, covered in armor, and charging right at you. And there were specialized weapons for just that problem!
But they weren't greatswords -- those were anti-infantry weapons.
They were these bad boys:

Halberds, glaives, guisarmes, billhooks and their kin -- weapons whose purpose was to grapple, snag, and drag heavy and armored opponents down into the muck where the guys with swords and hatchets could deal with them, while keeping as much distance as possible between yourself and the armored terror that can crack your skull in half. They were deadly effective at what they did, and the best weapons against armored heavy horse until cannons were invented.
Fictional monster-hunters should, I'd wager, spec less in two-handed swords and more into finding new and interesting arrangements of blades on sticks with which to pull manticores and wyverns down to more manageable levels.
I love me a fantasy monster-slaying greatsword, but the historical greatsword has a pretty badass purpose too!

The Manitoba government is looking to tighten the rules around the sale of machetes, swords and other long-bladed weapons. A bill now before the legislature would restrict the sale of such weapons to people over 18 with photo identification. It would also require retailers to keep the weapons away from open public access — in order to reduce theft — and to retain records of sales for at least two years. The move follows some high-profile attacks involving machetes. In August, three youths were charged in a machete and axe attack that left an 80-year-old man seriously injured.

note 1: i was going to put an option for no weapon, instead wielding magic but i feel like that option would be too appetising and i do want weapon stats!!!
note 2: i KNOW maces & morningstars are not the same (same with spear & javelin) but there's so many weapons and they are similar enough ok !!!
note 3: tell me what you would name your weapon >:0
EDIT HI FOLKS who reblogged or voted in this this silly post i made in 3 minutes! over 30k votes (!!) means that if just over a tenth of people who voted donated $5 to this (vetted, donation protected) fundraiser, maryam and her family would meet their goal TODAY. i've been following this one through operation olive branch for months, and donations have stagnated. please consider giving what you have.

The whole greatsword scabbard discourse gets me because, like, we know the answer to this one. We've got primary sources talking about it. The answer to "how do you carry a weapon that's more than a yard or so long" is:
If you don't think you'll need it on short notice and you're lucky enough to have access to a wagon or other means of transport, you don't carry it at all – you stick it in the wagon.
If you do think you'll need it on short notice or you don't have a wagon, you just carry it in your hands everywhere you go and constantly complain about how dumb and awkward that is, unless you're a professional mercenary and/or independently wealthy, in which case you hire a guy to follow you around carrying it in his hands everywhere you go and he complains about how dumb and awkward that is (though probably not while you're listening).

Video
Cool video and great, a vindication of medieval design !!!
Contrapoint though : all the guys who are said to have been crushed to death, at the battle of Poitiers or Agincourt for instance, because they fell from their horses and couldn't get back on their feet in their armour...
Which I guess could either be blamed on the horses (if you fall from your horse with the horse on top it's probably not the fault of the armour if you can't get up) ;
Or the fact that they might not have been as fit as the guy in the video. Plenty of middle-ages guys who had never seen a battle in their lives before and had a rich diet.
Also, the cavalry charge at the back might not have helped.
The myth that knights could barely move in their armor has finally been dispelled by Thrillist

Cuba thwarted the attempts of a network of Cubans living in the United States who were trying to enter the island illegally with weapons, with the purpose of starting a social outbreak. This week the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) disclosed details of a recruitment plan, neutralized in December 2023, directed from U.S. territory, to promote and organize terrorist actions in Cuba.

i’m personally fond of the simple elegance, devastating effectiveness, and feminine charm of the naginata, which is effective when wielded mounted or on foot, and especially good for dismounting an opponent, but we ought probably have a contingency for armored opponents, in which case the bec du corbin will serve splendidly
i need a girl with a short skirt and a loooooong halberd
