Dearest past self,

A few days ago marked 10 years since we began our Eorzean journey.

A lot in our life has changed- but this game has been a steady constant in those 10 years.

Initially, I had wanted to write a reflection piece like this at the end of each expansion, but time gets away from us, and I wasn't always in a good headspace to write.

Now feels like a good time for us to reflect.

I. A Realm Reborn

Our journey began at the tail end of patch 2.1; I still recall the feeling of walking into Gridania for the first time and being swept away, knowing that this game was the one I wanted to stick with. We embraced our curiousness and need to explore, and opened our mind to new experiences.

A lot happened over the course of 2.0- we got quite ill after moving out of our childhood home. We made the huge step of moving into a teeny tiny unit with our childhood best friend & life partner. FFXIV gave us a means to still have a community and connections without leaving the house, as well as welcome distraction. We covered a lot of this in this previous post from 2017.

We joined a Free Company, made this blog, and brought our little sister into the game too. We got married in-game and had a cute little wedding photo shoot- all done without gpose- while planning a wedding out of game too. We took our time, and slowly but surely, Eorzea became our second home.

We later played FFXIV music at the IRL wedding.

II. Heavensward

This was where we found our stride and our community; we caught up to endgame, and experienced first hand the joys of exploring new content alongside our friends. We learned to work better with others and to step outside our comfort zone by learning a new role.

In real life, it was a flurry of getting our medications right to keep our illness under control; it wasn't easy. We were at our worst here and very nearly wasted away to nothing. Past self, you were so brave. I wish we'd acknowledge that more than we do.

To keep focused on happier moments, we spent a lot of time connecting with others on Tumblr. Seeing all of the roleplay that went on through our blog, an alt was made on Balmung and we started our journey anew. Our group of friends grew, and our skills did too. We took up healing and it's been our main role ever since.

We also had a chance encounter with someone back in the ARR Coerthas zone- we ran a FATE together, and we complimented his in-game name. He introduced us to his friends, Onion Party, who we began running content with casually.

Our first step into alt-mania began when we created Ohka, and it was a slippery slope from then on! K'eshhe followed soon after, but C'arta was our primary focus at this time.

III. Stormblood

A tough expansion for us; it taught us to trust in our intuition, stand up for ourselves, and to remain steadfast when challenges came our way.

In our real life, we had adapted to being chronically ill and took all that came with it in our stride, but our relationships were put to the test. We were forced to move back in with our parents, newly married partner in tow. We began studying administration to find more stable work. We gained some wonderful friends, and had falling outs with some that meant us harm. We joined and left communities due to these friendship breakdowns. Our mental health took a dive, but we found solace and comfort in FFXIV.

In game, our FC numbers dwindled until it was just us logging in. We decided to branch out our skills, learning DoH and DoL classes to become self sufficient. It became a favourite past time of ours to travel the Stormblood areas, gathering materials.

Eventually, the FC leadership role passed to us; we passed it back when Clym eventually logged back in- but he declined to take it back, and entrusted the FC to us. With his blessing, we took the helm and began reworking the FC structure and renovations on the housing plot.

We also began running more with the Onion Party team, and gained some beautiful friends from the experience. We became the official 6th Onion, and the banter was top notch.

IV. Shadowbringers

Our truly social expansion; the FC was flourishing, Onion Party was recording more content and we set ourselves more challenging goals to work toward. This expansion saw us hit level cap for all classes for the first time, and take on a mentorship role.

Out of game, we had moved out with our partner and had begun the task of settling into our new home, rekindling our relationship and bettering ourselves. We finished our studies, and began working in an administration role. Things looked up- there were some small bumps on the road, but overall we were flourishing.

In game, it was fantastic; friends we knew in real life had begun their own journeys in Eorzea, and there was a sense of coming full circle. 'Look to those who walk before, to lead those who walk after'; we upheld our unspoken wish to make Clym proud, and guided these dear friends on their path. Looking back makes me so proud to see how far they've come.

We made the decision to retire C'arta, and began playing as a viera; first as Svea for a short time, then as Vrel. Roleplay took a backseat to content, and we thrived in the chaos and excitement.

Our time with Onion Party was exhilarating. We had two fantastic folks join us to fill gaps left by those who no longer played, and the team was stronger than ever. So much laughter was had during our runs.

V. Endwalker

This was a close second to Shadowbringers; Endwalker saw us looking back on how far we'd come, and setting ourselves up for the future.

Out of game, life had settled into a routine; we worked, we came home, fed the cats we had adopted (and ourselves), then logged in to play FFXIV. COVID had brought everyone together online, and despite the chaos of the world, there was joy in the togetherness of it all.

We had some exhilarating moments in Endwalker; solo healing Endsinger for the MSQ, then seeing our friends through to the end of what was then current content.

We lost a few friends along the way- the weren't healthy relationships- and we learned to be more cautious about who we opened up to. Our relationships with those preexisting friends deepened, and we began to look for quality over quantity in our friendships. I think we've chosen well.

Finally, at the end of Endwalker, Kupa was created. We decided that going forth into the next adventure, it was time to start fresh and she became our main.

VI. Dawntrail

Dawntrail has been a mixed bag for us. This has been a quieter expansion, and we have taken the time to reflect on our relationship with this game and what it brings to our life.

In the real world, we had a turbulent time; we'd recently lost our Grandfather, who had been a father to us in the absence of our biological dad, and had been made redundant from a job we loved only a few days before the expansion went live. It was a lot of grief to process in such a short time.

In game, things were growing quiet again. Many friends who previously played no longer had the time or interest, so most of the time we were playing alone. Things with Onion Party were slowing down, as life became too hectic. But through it all, our sister was there to cheer us on as we reached Solution 9.

Our alts had all bee migrated over to Tonberry, and every character was recreated as individual characters; C'arta, Ohka, K'eshhe and Vrel all became their own entities, and no longer just previous iterations of the same character.

This was the beginning of our modding and gposing journey; we'd always taken screenshots and gposes, but we began to intergrate tools like Anamnesis and Ktisis. It's been a big learning curve but it's led to us being able to channel our creativity in a new medium.

Since finishing the MSQ, we've taken our longest break from the game since we began playing (5 weeks, ish) and have come back with less of an interest in running content, and more focus on roleplaying and gposing.

I'm not sad about this, though. It feels exciting to engage with FFXIV in a different way; it doesn't lessen my love for this game or world. My experiences won't be any less important or tangible.

Whatever I end up focusing on in the future, I know that this game will still be a huge part of my life.

I've said it before, but I really struggle to articulate how much FFXIV means to me. I've spent a decade of my life exploring and learning about Eorzea, making connections and growing from the experiences I've had within it. It's seen me through the good and bad, changes and upheavals and growth.

To all of you who I have had to joy to meet in this journey, I'm so grateful to have crossed paths, and I hope to build on more of these friendships for years to come. To those I have yet to meet, I hope that we find each other soon.

To my future self- I hope that we can continue exploring Eorzea & Etheirys long into the future. Forge ahead, brave little spark.

My journey has been good. It's been worthwhile.

My loved ones. Cheesy, I know. Shout-out to my partner who does have a Tumblr account but refuses to be perceived because I know he'll read this and appreciate the fact I didn't tag him. I've been asked before how on earth I've been in a relationship with one person for over half my life and that's simple: I fell in love with my best friend. 💖 Also huge shoutout to @riftdancing who will be perceived because she's the platonic love of my life and, without her, I would not be who I am today. These two have seen me at my literal worst and stuck by me — I love them to bits! There's also my FC members/close friends @lightwrought / @gaygentofchaos / @whirlwyrm / @snakemoltsiren / @swingbeard / @dragons-ire / other people I have missed and/or wouldn't like to be tagged but know you are included because I love you. IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW. Also everyone in Seafloor!

Music. I've always loved music, but I really only got into music and listening to different things later in life! Sleep Token fundamentally altered my brain chemistry and I will thrust them on anyone who will listen (start with Sundowning through to Take Me Back to Eden if you want the whole ~experience~ but Jaws is also a good separate introduction). I've also come to love Crywolf, Ashnikko, Bad Omens, as well as old faithfuls like Red, Evanescence, Halsey, etc.

My cat. She's not really my cat, but she adopted me. Ratticus le Catticuses the third of her name; brat cat, rat cat; little goblin; my little baby girl, love of my life. (Her name is Lucy).

Graphics design/creativity. I make it no secret my favourite part of my irl work is when I can make a brochure/pamphlet/poster. I don't profess to be an absolute master in it, and I'm entirely self-taught, but there is something about making something better. It's the same with GPOSING and the like. I don't do it often, but my edits are there. There are people in the community that use the little dividers I put together in Canva. It makes me happy!

My current mental health/personal journey. I'm in a really good spot mentally. My diagnosis has changed my life, and I was already on a good trajectory with my personal mantra/outlook on life prior to it. A few years go I was extremely depressed/anxious, I had a lot of trauma/paranoia around my spaces, and acted in ways I'm not proud of. I've reached out and reconciled a lot of it, and it's allowed me to engage with this community and my personal projects in a manner that's healthy and engaging for me. I was in a spot of ~drama~ recently (which I won't get into — that's another personal choice I made to keep things between relevant parties) and, rather than freaking out and thinking everyone hated me... I just dealt with it. I took all sides, formulated my opinions and blocked the people I didn't want to deal with. I was SO proud/happy with myself — I still am! Super funny for someone so terminally online, but you are beginning to suspect they just- don't have a life outside of gaming.

Knows the mechanics for every single fight in game and is scarily efficient at his rotation. Also extremely inflexible and refuses to adjust for a n y o n e, but blames the wipe on everyone else because he knew the mechanics so why don't you? Pretty sure he broke a keyboard while trying to clear the last raid tier.

Rex plays this game for triple triad like a true king and is only kept on the static for his consistent dps. Claims that he doesn't pay attention to the discord but he knows everything everyone says in there anyway and responds any time someone vaguely mentions him. Likes to mess with Jude and is not above causing a wipe to out dps him.

Hello! I have been RPing for roughly 14 years, and recently came back from a long hiatus. I'm looking for some OC RPs with other adults! I live in CST and can typically reply several times a day.

Some of my interests include maritime history, vampires, and new wave/goth music, and science fiction (star trek!) so if you want to explore any of these things in our RP, that'd be great!

I am trans, bigender and bisexual, and I write most of my characters as LGBT in some way. I'm 25 and use he/they/it pronouns.

about my RP:

In many aspects I like to meet my partner where they're at, so I am flexible on a lot of these things. I prefer to do multipara, well thought out replies that focus on quality over quantity. I won't go down to less than a couple paragraph typically, unless my partner does for rapid fire dialogue type scenarios. I can go up to a couple discord messages worth of writing, although I prefer to only go long if there's good substance to it!

I exclusively RP OCs, mostly fandomless, of many genders and sexualities. I tend to use written or drawn FCs, but will use IRL ones if that's my partners preference.

The competition had ceased running following the disappearance of Princess Calista nearly a century ago. Now, the royal family is holding the tournament to celebrate her miraculous return. ( With a furious scowl, Murray Wheatbelly pokes his head out from the windows of The Daily Grail’s editing room. What perfect timing to bring on the bread and circuses, isn’t it? Soon after his paper leaks the news about sacrifices, a distraction with royal backing is trotted out to appease the public? He’s already made his move, and now it seems the palace is countering it. ) On Whale Island, a gladiatorial colosseum has been built overnight with the help of friendly golems, gargoyles, and dragons. It is inside this arena where the magical battles will be held, knockout tournament style over the course of two weeks. The updated elimination bracket will be posted in the Selphia Plaza by an officiant after each day of battle. Anyone is welcome to sign up, though the competition has been historically dominated by spirit warriors. To enter, you must officially represent either one of the three houses or your hometown from within the kingdom. Unofficial betting on the island already has strong contenders from Roytale, Selphia, and Orre as frontrunners. OOC: The Glitz Blitz is an event which is held in-game for two weeks, with multiple battles occurring each day. The first phase of this event will conclude IRL on August 6th!

Create a self-para where your muse either wins or loses against an NPC. This is your character's chance to become a crowd favorite, so please showcase your muse's combat style, personality, tactical prowess, personal storyline to win the public's favor (similar to storyline in wrestling!) and so forth. This will be their in-game first round (round #1) of the competition and therefore, the most memorable way to introduce themselves to the public! These self-paras will be used later in a "survivor" style voting game to determine who the public finds deserving of a second chance at victory, even if they are knocked out.

If you decide your muse will win against the NPC, they can move on to the next round! They may have up to TWO optional fights with other muses within the roleplay! These are rounds #2 and #3. When plotting out these match-ups, please make sure both parties are on the same page about the planned victors/winners before moving onto the dash.

Controversial opinion about some actors...

I know that this prudish internet culture of nowadays is making us afraid of picking the wrong celebrity and feel ashamed of liking somebody "problematic". I understand that and you do you. Feel free to play your own version of Toby's club.

But when it comes to me, if I pick some "problematic" celebs as FCs is not because I endorse their thinking or ideas IRL. It's not that deep. Most of the time it's because I needed a faceclaim and I chose one that I find hot/interesting/necessary to portray a character and that's why I'm using it. There is no ulterior political move on my part. That is all.

If you wanna label it anything and charge it with a meaning that I was not loading it with at all, that's on you. Go search for all the drama you want, but don't drag me in your mudpit: I simply don't care.

Now, will I be endorsing their idiotic stances? Do I believe in the same shit they do? Do I share their opinions?

Depends on each topic. But in general I believe that they are humans, and as humans they can err, make mistakes and fuck shit up. So I prefer that you come ask me if you believe something I do is problematic. Let's have an adult conversation where we can agree on the topic or agree on disagreeing.

But don't you think for a second that my choosing on something as mundane, basic and simplistic as a faceclaim has anything to do with my support to basic human rights. one: i am changing my approach to my blog and how i run it because i want this hobby to be fun again. what does this mean? it means that this will be a low frills semi-selective, writing focused blog. aside from the occasional plotting call, memes will be a great way to break the ice. plotting is highly encouraged as it makes things easier for me, i don't always do well with winging situations. also despite these extensive rules 9.5/10 times i am more intimidated by you than you are of me.

two: i reply to memes as if i was sending a starter, especially if we do not have active threads going. because of this i participate in what i call "3-strikes-you're-out." meaning if there is a pattern of my meme replies not get a like or even a comment let alone a reply, i will stop interacting with you for a while. if the pattern continues, i will soft block. i'm here to write, i don't appreciate wasting my time or writing.

seven: speaking of reciprocated interest... i send memes to people randomly on my dash but if i notice that none of the ones i send you are getting a reply or if i send but never receive, i will eventually stop sending you memes. if i never get a meme sent in when i reblog them nor a like on some post that you see me on the dash i will soft block. again, i give the energy i get.

eight: smut may make an appearance however i will only write it with those over 21. while i do like writing smut 1) that is not the focus of this blog and 2) if my writing partner(s) does not feel comfortable writing it out, fade to black is always an acceptable option.

So in short, it's now 2025 where I am! Or, well, it has been for an hour or more by the time I post this, probably. And if I decide to queue this, then it's ABSOLUTELY been a bit. But either way, Death to 2024, Hello 2025.

Anyways... I personally don't believe in 'New Years resolutions', and believe they are total hooey. However, I'm going to take advantage of this change as if they did, and make some changes here. I'll list them off.

TO START: I'm going to be trying to draw and do my voice acting a lot more! And that means updated Commission sheets and prices, as well as them popping up more often. So I'll try to draw and generally post more on my personal ( @4m4zing-gracie ), and my Bluesky, too. I want to put my art and vocal talents out there and do something to earn some coin while I am still in college and doing annoying schoolwork and learning programs and so on, and that means I'll probably showing off my comm sheets more often. Just a heads-up, idk.

SECONDLY: For @nautikids I wanna focus on worldbuilding and reaching out to people more. That's something I have seriously been putting off, and am gonna try to finish before... at least June, or 2026? I dunno. I have ideas that I want to share and have people see, and I also need to talk to others more.

THIRDLY: I have... OTHER blogs and projects I wanna work on, specifically relating to this one fandom. So expect a new blog with brand new OC reveals in the future I guess? It will not be tied to anything you've seen yet though, and the whole shebang will also story-based. So stuff may take a bit, but this is still something you should look for.

LASTLY: I'm gonna be getting a new FC as you can see. Yu.zu was fine, but after some looking around, I'm going to be changing my mun FC to Ameli.a Irv.In.g! Out with the old and in with the new. Plus she looks a lot more like me IRL too so bonus.

TLDR: I'm gonna be doing more art and voice acting so expect to see more commission sheets, I'll try to do worlbuilding for my fandomless OCs, I have a whole other project I'll be working on soon, and I'm getting a new mun FC.

as long as you dont solely use korean fcs on non krp forums, you're eager to plot and as long as your character has a solid background for development opportunities, the jcink rpc is pretty chill after a lot of very huge resource site shut down. the issue was a mess too, causing a lot of people to leave both from lack of resources available for public use for free and people just decided to focus more on irl things now that half of the community comprises of mature writers. but the remaining peeps who are still actively contributing are very eager to help anyone willing to join! my advice is to check the member directory for each site to see if there's a diverse range of faces used. but dont use this as an excuse to make only korean characters and try not to use exclusively korean faces. also, reach out to other members for plotting opportunities as well!

@lucidjcink has a very strict rule on racebending and the portrayal of korean culture. it's an idol/supernatural rp set in seoul with tons of species and idol groups to choose from. i haven't had the time to drop by to say hi but i have been lurking on the forums and have plans on making a character soon. this rp is invite only and you're required to fill in a gform and answer a bunch of questions as part of the screening process though so do take your time.

sleepless in seoul (rl crime) is a newly established rp, but the members are pretty active. i also haven't had the time to make a character but the rp has an interesting premise with lots of interesting character requests to grab! and the admins are always happy to welcome newcomers and im sure they're happy to help you get situated on how jcink roleplaying works <3

seeing double (rl scifi about clones/crime), my current humble abode, has long been established with a small amount of members but they do have tons of canons and character requests to choose from too! so you'll always have pre-established plotting opportunities with the other members. there's plenty of character opportunities available due to the diverse nature of the site's lore. there's canons for idols/ent industry and college student characters and many others as well, so im sure your character will fit in just nicely. this rp is pretty quiet and activities are lax (most muns are mature writers with irl responsibilities), but do come over and make yourself known. i would definitely make a character solely for you :') https://weseedouble.jcink.net/index.php?act=idx

golden era (historical fantasy) has a pretty diverse range of races too! i have seen someone use exo's suho and actor kim soohyun for their characters and was pretty active mingling well with the other muns. i was on this site last year before i have to leave due to irl responsibilities but this site was fun to join! they're still running despite the low activities but dont let that deter you from joining. it just means that posting requirements are lax and very forgiving <3 https://goldenrpx.jcink.net/

overall, these are the sites im in/was in/have heard of that are pretty welcoming with asian faces! im pretty sure there's many more western forum rps that are pretty welcoming with poc faces but i dont have any experience with any other sites besides the ones listed above so i cannot say much. i would also like to add that the roleplayers in the jcink rpc are mostly in their mid 20s to late 30s, meaning that everyone are adults with irl responsibilities, so thread replies can be pretty unpredictable. but dont let that bother you or make you sad because the rp is inactive! the jcink rpc in general is pretty lax with their activity and wordcount requirements. hmu at discord @loeykji_ if you need to get situated to forum roleplaying 🫶🏻

I think it's about 100 or so now, not counting the ones I haven't brought to Tumblr and keep to Discord/the fact I can probably RP anyone as long as I've seen the series. If I did that, I'd have well over 200 and then some!!! I love Sasha, really. She's neat to RP as. A very well-mannered Destruction God who just likes food because her predecessor gave her a good reason to! Oh god, Melanie has come so far from just being an "alternate version" of Rani (who was the original Melanie before I changed her name, fun fact!) because I was knee-deep in Symphogear. I love how, with @stalwartembers' and my partner's help, she basically became the Melanie we all know and love today. The best version of herself. And it all started as a "what if she got Gungnir instead of Hibiki" thought.

It's not going too great right now (but then again it's the end of the first month and a lot has changed due to death in the household, which is why I did a doodle donation stream and will probably be asking for help going forward), but I hope it gets better. Can only go up from here, right?

rambling thoughts on games i been playin

husband has always been a wow guy. he goes hardcore-- as much as one can when working a full-time job and being a supportive partner and excellent co-parent, anyway. he is GOOD. he knows so much and improves constantly and bro if it weren’t for the aforementioned obstacles homeboy could easily be on liquid or some other rwf team.

i grew up with wow-- fond memories of my dad logging in and instructing us to level his fishing/mining/herbalism while he was at work lmao. i’ve played it on and off and always enjoyed it-- it’s just impossible to do so when the kids are at certain stages. and that’s fine with me.

not fine with husband who misses gaming with me.

i started playing ffxiv in early 2021. was Super Done with wow and blizz as a whole because of Everything, and it wasn’t fun or getting better. this so-called ‘weeb game’ is fucking life changing and has made me howl with laughter and sob at my desk.

husband still views it as a ‘wow competitor’ and dislikes it, despite being a HUGE HUGE FF nerd. this guy plays randomizers of ffv and ffvi at least every other month, and our wedding invites had cecil and rosa sprites on em.

i can play ffxiv (have even done current content and raids) with one hand-- the other hand holding a baby. thank you, gaming mouse.

i’m a sucker for those sweet brown eyes tho and gave dragonflight a try a couple weeks ago. slowly going through the msq and doing every sidequest i find. really liking it so far. definitely need 2 hands to play tho. mentioned to husband that if he wanted to i can try raiding with his guild in a few months when the youngest is older (he is 19 months rn and into everything).

“oh? is it because of The Twins?” these twins are irl people nearby and one is my bff’s recent ex husband, i Do Not Like Them and they know they done fucked up because they were objectively in the wrong.

a) i love u bb, u know my limits and b) why are you around them, then? they make you upset, you have a meltdown at least once a month vowing to quit the guild because you don’t have fun when playing with them and feel heavily held back, also c) the whole reason you wanted me to play was to play with you????

like, wow is okay. but ffxiv has my heart. i gave in and re-subbed for the patch and the sheer joy that welled within me at seeing these characters i genuinely adore... brightened my mood for the whole day if not week.

i want to find a static or fc to just hang out in, once baby is older and i can focus on a game in my free time. i think it’d be chill. no Boys Club bullshit. just people having fun. i miss that community.

i wish he would give it a solid chance. he’d fucking love it, because i KNOW him and the stories and games he adores. he’d find friends there who wouldn’t make him feel like shit/ignore him when he’s online.

but i let my husband be himself, and he lets me be me. i just want him happy.

(this sure doesn’t make me wanna continue this wow sub after the month is up, tho)
