In Canon (JTTW) Wukong shows any romantic/sexual interest towards anyone?
Not Even Slightly fasfgrewdf. Going by Wu Cheng'en's version it's Zhu Bajie who's the romantic/libertine of the pilgrim group, while if memory serves correctly the main emotion Sun Wukong shows towards romance and sex is irritation. The Monkey King does have real affection for his monkey family and later on for Tang Sanzang, but it's the affection of an asexual communal grandpa lol.
That said, this characterization in Xiyouji is a big change from the monkey's presentation in the earlier play Zaju Xiyou Ji. Here, the simian in question, Sun Xingzhe, not only had a wife that he kidnapped in traditional Chinese monkey monster fashion, but apparently spends most of his time telling crude jokes, ogling other women, and acting as a rowdy clown.
I've now seen a number of pretty valid points about how it definitely pays to look outside of Wu Cheng'en's version of the westward journey to see what other people have made of it throughout its history, and I'd definitely agree that seeing what else could be considered part of JTTW "canon" in terms of the wild variety of ways people have told and retold this story is a really fascinating thing!
That said, I do think that coming at it from a western perspective one miiiiiight want to be a little more cautious of how one approaches the question of a Sun Wukong romance/sexual interest, given the long history in this part of the world of not only viewing and presenting monkeys as hyper-sexual beings/ man's poor imitation, but also using that perception to bolster a lot of horrible stereotypes against certain groups of humans, including against Chinese people. As is--and while in China itself Sun Wukong has been presented as everything from a devoted and helpful deity to a lecherous and destructive warlord--at this point there definitely does seem to be something of a preference in western depictions to emphasize the destructive and "stupid monkey" potentials of Sun Wukong's character rather than for example his love of family or his intelligence.

Black Myth!Sun Wukong x mortal!reader - general headcanons
Short and messy romantic headcanons with Wukong. I hope he isn't too ooc, but it's pretty much how I image this version of him(still bratty) and yeahhh, I'm planning to maybe write something more! Currently working on Sun Wukong x OC fanfic and it's the reason why I can't really place my mind on other writings lol
Warnings: english isn’t my first language, short
you two ending up together was really unexpected considering his temper, his ego and even his history, but yep, annoying monkey fell in love with a mortal
sun wukong was a hard nut to crack and it took some time, but eventually you became geniuenly attached to each other
surprisingly, he was the first to realize his feelings for you and the first to confess
but it was the most unique confession you had ever heard. 'i love you'? no, too simple for him
the monkey king told you straight up that he wanted to marry you and bond with you forever
(he fell first, but you fell harder)
in relationship sun wukong was still irritating, but loving and somehow sweet, you two were practically inseparable
he loved the way your skin felt and often tried to find a way to touch you, even just a little bit; it was his love language
it wasn't like he was bad with words, but sometimes talking can be tairing or not enough to show feelings
not to mention that he would do anything for you just to prove how important you were(past mistakes haunts him)
respectful, let's be clear - he lacked tact, but he never wanted you to do anything against your will
wukong was definietly overprotective, no strangers (or those above) could get close to you
he knew that they wanted him to serve again and were regularly killing his kind so why wouldn't they hurt you? that thought was pissing him off even more
you often spent time cuddled up together, doing nothing all day
sometimes he fell asleep in your arms, holding onto you tightly as if you were about to disappear
you were the only one who saw his soft side

Sun Wukong x Black F!Reader Headcannon
Tumblr media
Okay so I guess you can call this a head cannon, and it'll possibly also better describe how the reader is in "We We're Destined Without Knowing" This headcannon is for all the versions of Wukong(Except the netflix one, I'm sorry lol... I-I just can't get into it)
Reader is like a soft, sweet, friendly and gentle person and a spiritual one. You know the women with waist beads and likes crystals. Mainly because I'm a spiritual person lol
I have read and seen so many iterations of readers, that usually the same as Wukong... Until I read something. THIS READER IS AN ENABLER TO WUKONG!
Mainly because the chaotic shit Wukong does is damn near hilarious and looks fun. Reader will hype her man up whether it's bad or good. Possibly even join in on it. Chaotic lovers are the best
Because reader has the mindset, since she is Wukong's goddess she would say, "They can't beat my ass, and if they try to just know my husband Wukong is on that ass."
Reader loves complimenting Wukong, building his confidence and more. She will constantly uplift her man.
Reader also loves to brag about how amazing her Boyfriend/Husband is. You just love your monkey so much, and can't get enough of him
Reader can be playful at times, but not to much because Wukong can go over the top. And it'll just leave you exhausted or running till you past out
Wukong is very protective and possessive of Reader just as much as Reader is of him. Will not have them disrespecting his name, and would stick your tongue out at the other deity females that wanted him. Because he belongs to you and you'll make sure that he knows that.
Your shy by day but a freak by NIGHT! Yeah things change when Reader is alone with her King. Who doesn't love a secret freak, I know I do Haha
Reader and Wukong when they do become a couple. They make out a lot... Like A LOT A LOT! What can I say kisses are my kryptonite. Especially the cute and passionate one's.
Self-care is very important, especially when it comes to your kinky curly hair. Which Wukong loves so much, so Reader and Wukong groom each other and shampoo each other's hair with earthly things and fruits in the forest or on the mountain.
Reader is a ride or die for Wukong, wherever he goes you go. She will always be there for him, in whatever mortal way she can.
I could literally go on for ages, but if you want a Pt. 2 let me know, but yeah I LOVE ME SOME WUKONG! And the whole fucking world is gonna know about it lol Headcannon Pt. 2: https://www.tumblr.com/skymoral/770490802501746688/sun-wukong-x-black-freader-headcannon-pt-2?source=share

False Hero AU
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@rovobeam everything you've been drawing for this hurts my soul and I love it.
SO! 👏 The False Hero AU is all about what would have happened if Macaque won the fight with Wukong on the journey. After sealing Sun Wukong under Flower Fruit Mountain, Macaque continued to impersonate him for a while, travelling with the pilgrims until… well, until the journey ended prematurely. Once he no longer had to deal with that, Macaque was free to do just… whatever he wanted. However, with the Monkey King gone, the world was still in need of a hero.
It wasn't like Macaque planned this all from the start. He saved some villages because, well, he was just in the area. As he did tho, he started to be seen as more and more of a hero. People didn't have to worry about the old Monkey King coming to save them anymore, not when this new one was doing so well!
The attention and praise eventually got to his head, and Macaque began to embrace the role he'd been given. He liked being a hero, having all these people admire him. Wukong abandoned him to join those stupid monks, but now? He had the love of the people Wukong used to protect. Of course, he didn't want all this attention and praise to waiver if anyone thought to look back on what really happened during the journey. Nobody even knew what happened to Sun Wukong after the other pilgrims died, which left Macaque to shape the story and tell the tale of what happened himself.
By the time the modern age hits, everyone that heard of the Journey to the West knows about how the hero Six-Eared Macaque bravely defeated the rampaging Sun Wukong, the Corrupt Sage who thought he was equal to heaven. In this world, it's Macaque who becomes MK's mentor. Unlike Wukong tho, he is a much more active presence in the city, acting as its guardian and local hero instead of going into retirement.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everything was going well for him! He's beloved by the city he protects, he's surrounded by friends that love and care about him, and he loved them just as much. Sure, he sometimes had to make sure people didn't catch on to the real story, there was still the rare individual that would question the facts– but there was nothing to prove his version of events were false. He even keeps his scar visible so the world can remember what Wukong did to him in their fight. There was nothing to make the majority of people question him, anyway.
…That is, until MK finds the seal keeping Sun Wukong under Flower Fruit Mountain.
It's not like Macaque told the kid about the monster under the mountain, how could he have known not to touch it? Macaque may have been angry, but he wouldn't hold it against his student. However, this newly freed Wukong posed a very big threat. No matter who got in his way, whatever attempts Wukong makes to tell the world otherwise, Macaque would have to make sure his status as the real hero remained intact. This would result in many battles between the two mystic monkeys, and with MK by his side, he often came out on top. Macaque just had to keep painting Wukong as the villain, a demon returning to lay waste to their home. He'd do anything to ensure his version of history was the right one.
And Macaque refuses to let anyone stand in his way.

Okay so I'm using a link because I thought I could send images via ask but the monkey kings (D.O) with a female reader becoming parents but with this scene;
https://s04.mpqsc.org/media/2002/018/63e3bf47c300a0b3d05a7810/45661468_1080_3317_262100.jpeg
HEY I got the link to work so here you go😁
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Lmk Wukong) Awwww he thinks it's cute when you seem to try to make him feel better by saying that your newborns take after him. However Wukong can clearly see that they're mini yous all over the hospital room, not that he minds. He can never get enough of you and he's not starting to now, the cubs are all adorable and healthy. Looking like sleeping versions of you while being an baby monkey, it would cause him to have a stroke from the innocence around him. He will be an amazing baba and husband to you forever.
Tumblr media
(MKR Wukong) His gives you a really face when you say that your cubs take after him, I mean, maybe there are grumpy faces, but other than that, it's like they are carbon copies of you. Wukong was mildly irritated that the cubs look exactly like you, and it's like his genes got their asses badly kicked by your genes. They're still beautiful, fluffy, and chubby looking calm and cute but had the same resting b*tch face he always had so in a way what you said is true.
Tumblr media
(NR Wukong) He Tries not to squeal at how wholesome his newborns are, they are all soooooooooooooooo cute🥰🥰🥰 However the irony isn't lost on him when the cubs come out looking like you. Yet you tell him that they take after him maybe because they were so active in your tummy, and during the birth now that their's way more room now. Such adorable little things they are🤭
Tumblr media
(HIB Wukong) He looked at you like you had two heads when you said they took after him. All Wukong had to do is look at the sleeping baby cubs all fluffy and chubby, having your fur and eye color hell even some of them have your long eyelashes and birthmarks. All Wukong did was sigh at your absentminded comment and smile as Luier and Silly girl ran in to see the new cubs.
Tumblr media
(Netflix Wukong) Wukong would be extremely pouty when he sees finally sees the cubs. They look like you in every single way from eye color to their long pretty eyelashes, he's both outraged and in love. As if you rub salt on a open wound you tell Wukong that you think that they take after him, causing him to facepalm but smile. Yeah whatever you say peaches, whatever you say😒
Tumblr media
(BMW Wukong) Wukong jaw dropped when he saw your cubs for the first time, all of them every single one of them looks exactly like you. Your newborns were all fluffy and squeaky but none of them look like him at all, like his genes didn't bother at all. Wukong would grumble at this especially when you told him that they took after him, Wukong just felt betrayed mostly. However at least the cubs will maybe pick up his love for mischief.
Tumblr media
(Destined one) The Destined one smiled at your newborn cubs being born, and after a few hours they were cleaned and wrapped up. The Destined one walked back in the hospital room to see how the cubs, look like carbon copies of you. They were adorable of course but it would have been nice to see at least one of his cubs, look somewhat like him. Though on a brighter note the newborns cubs were pretty quiet almost like a certain selectively mute monkey😉
Tumblr media
(Lotmk Wukong) He's so happy-go-lucky about your new healthy cubs, finally after waiting for months they were finally here. When he saw them he had tears in his eyes because they were so beautiful and fluffy, they were also so chubby and he was so in love with them he didn't even notice how they all look 100% like you. Wukong also took your word for it when you said they took after him, he'll just love them more for that.

To see the world that you are so proud of...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Synopsis: Growing up obediently following your empress' shadow, your horizon broaden the moment you met a pirate doning a strawhat who somehow ended up on your island.
Pairing: Monkey D. Luffy x Kuja!Reader, Platonic!Boa Hancock X Fem!Reader
Spoilers from the Amazon Lily and Marineford arcs. Reader is a pure sunshine who is both kind and naive. This is mostly focused on yours and Hancock's relationship.
|| One Piece Masterlist ||
|| Part 1 || Part 2 ||
Tumblr media
"Rejoice.. From this day and so on, you will directly serve me alone...."
Growing up, all you ever did was listen and obey those who ranks stronger than you. And that person was no other than Boa Hancock, the Empress of your island.
When your mother died unexpectedly, she took you under her watchful eyes. Being only a child at the time, you were unaware of how dangerous your surroundings were. Surrounded by the jungle and waters filled with sea kings, you will never survive.
The women were all like walking on eggshells around you. Your mother was a fearsome warrior that boarded the Kuja Pirates' ship. She was well respected by her peers and because of that, the rest treated you like a delicated flower that deserved to be sheltered.
You were a child without a maternal protection and guidance.
But after being graced by her benelovence, you grew to adore the snake princess and bow to serve her with everything you have. Hancock treated you like how she would treat anyone below her, yet in your child like mind, she was the only one who didn't see you as fragile as glass.
And to repay that, you went and learned the ways of the women in the island.
"Snake Princess, please allow me to serve your every needs! I won't hesistate to do all of them!"
"Snake Princess, I brought you your tea. Just like how you like it..."
"Please leave quietly. The Snake Princess is currently occupied and cannot see an audience."
"My empress, you seems to be slightly fatigued, should I draw a herb bath to soothe your mind and cleanse your body?"
"I'll be on guard by the door if you ever request anything, Snake Princess. I'll be happy to aid you with all of my capabilities...."
You learned and mastered observation haki at a young age as you often went and learned everything that should and shouldn't do around the Pirate Empress. After all, you felt like you owe your life to her.
But that's also when you finally saw through the mask she often wore. She has a deep fear somewhere in her heart that she tried so hard to hide, the same fear that her sisters share with her.
You kept silent about it as you thought it wasn't your place to ask. But after that, you began to see her in a different light.
Boa Hancock is much more valiantly elegant than what you previously thought. And you admire her strong demeanor in hopes that one day, you'll be like her too..
As a Kuja warrior, you strived and hone your skills in hopes of pleasing your Empress even more. You worked harder to be a better version of yourself. You became the best hunter of your tribe while fully adapting to your own snake weapon.
Hancock rarely talk to you, however, she kept you often at her side, doing her bidding.
"What is with that smile on your face?"
"I'm happy, Snake Princess. To be able to prove my worth by serving you, it's the greatest honor..."
Most women would cower under her cold gaze, but you on the other hand, was brave enough to stare back with much admiration, carrying and obeying with a gentle smile on your face. Pure genuine, you didn't fawn over her like how the rest did, nor threw yourself under her feet as she walk pass by.
Everything you do was all voluntary that she didn't even have to use her charms to force you to obey.
Eventually, your obedience lead to Hancock trusting you completely. Becoming her right hand woman, whom she could trust Amazon Lily with. She know that you will never betray her with how much dedicated you are on serving her.
You were too kind. Whenever she looks out on the window of the castle, she would often see you helping out your fellow women with a huge smile on your face. Every requests thrown at your direction, you immediately agreed on, as if rejection is not on your vocabulary.
She knew by then, that she chosen the right person to trust on.
The first time you actually met a man, was when Hancock commanded you to stay back on the island as she sails away with her sisters and the elite warriors of the tribe.
"Snake Princess, why do I have stay here? I am confident in my abilities that I won't be considered as a hinder.."
You pleaded, carefully observing her reactions if ever you annoyed her with your words. To be near Hancock, means that you have to be careful not to anger her to avoid loosing her favor on you.
"You are not ready to sail on the Perfume Yuda yet. So use that strength on keeping this island safe until I return..."
Being often near the snake princess, gave you privilage to lead your fellow warriors whenever she and her sisters are not around. They listen to your instructions carefully and proceed to do their respective chores dedicatedly.
As you were given the task of protecting the island by Hancock herself, you took the initiative of scouting the jungle along side three other woman named Marguerite, Sweet Pea and Aphelandra.
"While we're here, should we perhaps hunt a beast for today's lunch?"
You asked the trio, hoping to bring a good feast for the warriors who scouted the other areas of the island, but before anyone could respond, you all notice smoke coming from the far side of the jungle. Wordlessly, you gave the women a commanding look before running off to the source with them following behind.
And that's how you met the strange man now called Luffy.
You found him beatened and unconcious with mushroom growing on his body. Not knowing his identity before hand, your pity for the injured had allowed him to enter the village.
Allowing Belladona and the rest of the women to tend his wounds, you and Marguerite provided on sewing new clothes identical to his previous tattered ones.
Marguerite embroidered floral patterns on the vest and you sewed a new pair of clean shorts.
Until the elder, Nyon revealed his identity of being a man.
"So this is what a man look like....?"
Unlike the rest of the women who all got defensive on his sudden outburst, you on the other hand could only continue to stare with curiosity.
Because you could clearly see his intentions. He was annoyed with how the rest wanted to pull his balls of gold, how feminine his clothes were and how tense he was when weapons pointed at his direction.
Yet you can see the desperation on his eyes. His desperation to leave the island, and return to his friends, atleast from what you heard him shout.
"Wait, stop...!"
You told the women to cease all actions but it was then, their arrows rained towards his cell, forcing himself to break out.
"He is not a threat!"
"(Name) all men who enters this island must be eliminated. That is the rules given by our ancestors that is upholded for centuries!"
Kikyo scolded you. Reminding you of where your loyalty lies. If your Empress ever finds out that a man entered the island under your supervision, you knew that you'll be the one paying for the consequences.
You feared to see the disappointment, Hancock would send you once she finds out. Hate to have suddenly betrayed her trust of getting fooled by a man whom you allowed to enter in the island. And you hate to disappoint her.
But the women are willing to help you out by pretending that this had never happened. Once you capture the man and kill him, this will all be a forgotten event. Boa Hancock will never know that a man soiled her land with his filt....right?
So with a conflicted thought, you went with the rest to pursue the strawhat wearing man.
Tumblr media
Somehow, you found yourself being held hostaged by the same man. At first, you and the other Kuja warriors were all chasing after him through out the village, when all of sudden, he turned around to face you.
Looking through the crowd of women, his eyes landed on to your guarded ones, stretching his arm, he immediately wrapped them around you before running off.
He kidnapped you, atleast that what you thought as he made his way out to the village with you in his arms.
"I need that paper back..."
He was after the paper you found on his tattered clothes. You stared at him warily as your snake slithered from your shoulders to your arm, forming into your weapon. You hoped that you wouldn't be using it against him but you can't avoid taking that risk.
You stared at his impatient form, silently observing his every move. You can tell that he has no intentions of fighting you either.
"You mean this....? What does it do...?"
Curiosity over took your judgement as you pulled out the paper to his field of vision. Seeing the absolute relief on his face made you lower your guard a little. What was the importance of a small piece of paper with a name written on it?
"My friends and I got separated, I need this paper to see them again."
"Who...are you anyways...?"
"I'm Monkey D. Luffy. I'm a pirate..!"
He spoke with a boyish grin on his face that you couldn't help but reprocate. He kept his distance seeing how you weren't comfortable being near a man....yet. He spoke fondly of his crew.
Like how you often spoke about the Snake Princess.
"The Snake Princess rules this island, she's wary of outsiders like you, but once you see through the mask she often wore, you can see how caring she's really is...!"
"I see! You really like the boss of this place, huh..? She must be really nice then."
You didn't realized that you were talking rather eagerly like you knew him for years already until you hear his laughter. Feeling slightly embarrased that you lost your composure, you immediately went to defend yourself.
"D-don't get ahead of yourself, man! Just because I'm talking to you, doesn't mean I'll let you do what you want here... No men are allowed on this island!"
You were already getting attached to him, he doesn't seem to be a threat at all. You thought as you saved him from drowning after his attempt to make a raft.
And before you could even think about helping him escape, the defense warrior group finally found the two of you in which he decided to flee.
By the time, you caught up to him, you knew it was already too late. Hancock was already aware of his presence and had ordered for his capture after he crashed on her chambers when she was bathing.
"Where were you, (Name)?"
You couldn't face her, you could only stand behind her with her sister Marigold on your front.
"Forgive me, Snake Princess... I was out there trying to capture that man..."
Boa Hancock is a rather observative woman. She observes people who falls under her rules. She knows her worth and what she is capable of and use it for her advantage.
Imagine to her slight surprise, you weren't there to greet her return at the end of the red carpet. That was her first suspicion, you never failed to show up first whenever she returns to the Island after weeks on sea.
She got even more suspicious when every woman she came across to lied when she asked of your wherebouts. Their only replied was, you had to hunt down a troublesome monkey that involves the rest of the island's defense troupe.
So when this man appeared, she knew she has to demonstrate a taste of her power to all of the women on the island. You included. She is the Empress, and it is her duty to protect the women under her care. She ought to show an example of how truly vile men are.
You who were oblivious of how truly cruel the world is. Too kind and obedient for her liking yet she couldn't find the heart to tell you off. She wasn't blind to see the adoration on your face whenever she is nearby. Nor she was oblivious to how genuine your actions were. She can see the unwavering loyalty you shown for her.
However she wasn't expecting you to grow attached to Luffy.
She noticed how your behavior shifted to tense and discomfort seeing him fight in that arena.
"What is it, (Name)?"
"Nothing, my empress..."
She could applaud you keeping your emotions in check. However, she found herself staring at you in disbelief when your cool finally broke when Marguerite, Sweet Pea and Aphelandra step in, attempt to save Luffy.
"My apologies, but I was the one who brought him to the village. If anyone deserves to be punished, it should be me. Those three merely followed my orders."
"You know what happens to those who defy me, (Name). Why are you defending the guilty?"
Taking up the courage, you managed to look her directly in the eyes. Those cold and dull hues that holds deeper emotions within. With a deep breath, you gave her your usual smiles.
Your compassionate smile of purity.
"I was the one who allowed permission for him to enter the village, my empress. So I should be the one held accountable. Marguerite, Sweet Pea and Aphelandra did nothing wrong, so please allow me to take their punishment alone.
You pleaded them to be spared. Seeing how you are willing to take the risks of saving the girls including Luffy slightly wavered her resolved.
"....You disappointed me, (Name).."
But she is still the Empress, and she has to show her authority over the island. Knowing full well that her powers could not affect you in any way, she asked a few warriors to take you away. You who looked back at her with a dejected face.
The man wearing a strawhat look angry on your behalf. He fought bravely against her sisters, demanding to set you free as you were innocent from all of this.
"She did nothing wrong! She was only trying to save me!"
Hancock kept her composure as she watched the battle raged on. What was so special about this man that you were willingly to defend him.
You were just too kind that it slightly annoyed her. You should only reserve it to her and her people alone. Your kindness shouldn't be shown to filthy men who will only take advantage of you.
This was the first defiance you've ever done. Hancock gritted her teeth as memories flashed between her eyes, ransacking every single one, yet she didn't remember you showing any disobedience like this before.
Just when she was starting to treasure you.
Only when the battle was over, she finally understood. Luffy was kind in his own way. Is that why you defended him? Because you were aware that he was not like those men who once trespassed the island?
Luffy seems to know the secret she was so desperate of hiding, so does that means that you already know? What do you see in her now?
Only when she was finally alone in her room, was she began breaking down, silent tears fell down as she didn't want her sisters to hear. Having you by her side for years as her closest aide made her conflicted. She only kept you nearby was because of pity.
You losing your mother at such a young age. Your mother who was apart of her crew, died at sea because of her warrior pride to protect the rest. It was by guilt, your mother's death at her ship is what made her take you under her wing.
She watched you grow up into a formidable warrior serving her with nothing but pure genuine adoration. It was nothing like the lust thrown to her way by both genders whenever she was present.
It was a gaze of a child with innocent admiration. You look up to her as a person and not just someone with otherworldy beauty.
Which is why she didn't let you join her crew. Giving excuses that you weren't strong enough to travel the seas on her ship. She didn't want you to see how vicious and filthy this world truly is. Nor for people to take advantage of your kindness.
What will happen if you knew the truth? It was her selfishness that killed your mother. Her selfish orders is what caused your mother to loose her life. Will you still have the same look on your face if you ever find out her slave mark? Or are you already aware of it?
Knowing you for years, no. You would never look at her differently even after she told you her secret. But the truth? It was because of her that you grew up without your mother's tender love and care.
But even so, she gave in with her fears. Through out the years, even she tried hard to push you away with her cold atittude, you still managed to find a place in her heart.
You were patient with her. Serving her with a bright smile that herself couldn't help but grew fond of. You tolerate her bratty attitude and beauty even when she knew that didn't have any affect on you. Only you were the one who can see through her lies and stayed.
But Hancock is a selfish woman, she was drawn to your warmth that she decided to keep you close, Because she was selfish, she only wants to keep your kindness to herself.
Because being around you, she can be a regular person that people never fawn on. Not like a luxurious item that people wanted to have, but a person who has her own feelings and wants.
All she hope is that you would forgive her like how you always do.

Do you have a favourite c-drama, either historical, modern or fantasy? I really enjoyed watching Everlasting Longing
I absolutely have a favourite, along with 3 other that come really close 😃 These 4 shows I've watched for almost 30 years now and I still keep re-watching them because of how amazing they are.
a) 1994 Romance of the Three Kingdoms (三国演义) b) 1986 Journey to the West (西游记) c) 1987 Dream of the Red Chamber (红楼梦) d) 1998 Water Margins (水浒传)
These 4 series were based off of the classical novels of the same names. They were produced by CCTV, the central broadcasting network in China, so we call them 央视版 (central broadcast version) because there are many other adaptations.
Tumblr media
Romance of the Three Kingdoms, out of these 4 series this one is my ABSOLUTE favourite. Not only for Chinese drama, this is my favourite show historical, modern, Chinese, English, the top spot in my heart.
This story is set in the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history. Out of all 4 classics, this one is the most historical, but the story DOES contain many fictional aspects. Many people say it's 70/30 (70% based on history, 30% made up/tweaked from history). The characters themselves ARE all real in history, and the general direction of the story follows history as well.
Near the end of the Han Dynasty, local warlords started gaining power, eventually splitting the country into 3 Kingdoms. That's pretty much the basis of the story. It goes into strategies used in warfare, psychology of using strategies, famous battles, etc. People also use it to discuss some philosophical questions like, honor, right vs wrong (kill an innocent person to calm an entire army, is that justified? etc.), what is acceptable as a leader, being faithful to your country, not giving up, etc.
I've watched this series no less than 20 times over the past 30 years and every time I still laugh and cry. I also know enough about the background when they were filming to know how difficult it was. The series is 84 eps long, they filmed in 5 groups for 3 years (so basically all 5 groups were filming at the same time to save time), even utilizing the military for some of the larger battles. Main character roles were paid 250 yuan/episode (about $34 USD today), which was fairly good for salary back then but nowhere near the outrageous amounts actors get today compared to average worker. The first few months before filming all actors went through training, horseback riding, fighting, going over the novel with experts, learning etiquette and mannerisms, etc.
This series also has my favourite historical figures, Emperor Liubei and his Prime Minister Zhuge Liang. After researching the actual history of this period, these two are my top historical Emperor/advisor pair. An Emperor who trusted his Prime Minister with his Kingdom, and a Prime Minister who fought to the last breath to fulfill the dream they had together T___T 为什么我的鱼水君臣要 BE...😭😭😭
If you're interested in watching this series, @hanchaozhilang is doing English subs for the whole series
Putting up 2 MVs for them here (combined into 1 video), 我家昭烈帝和武侯有排面!!

Journey to the West is based off of a true event in history, during the Tang Dynasty. A monk went on a journey from Chang'an (now Xi'an) to India for Buddhist scriptures. I'm not too familiar with the actual history, but I can imagine back then it would've been an incredibly difficult journey to make.
The novel took that journey and expanded it. They wrote in 3 disciples for the monk (technically 4...the horse who's the son of one of the Dragon Kings is also one), and put 81 "tests" along the way. The monk and his disciples had to overcome these attempts to thwart their journey to finally reach their goal.
The main character of this series isn't actually the monk but his eldest disciple, the Monkey King (top right). The Monkey King (named Sun Wukong) was birthed from a rock, and learned skills like how to transform into various objects, how to fly, etc. At one point he trashed the Jade Emperor (Emperor of the Heavens) palace and was sentenced by Buddha to be trapped under a mountain, but was tasked to assist the monk on his journey 500 years later.
When they filmed this series they were desperately short on funding, only had 1 video camera to use xD Every single main actor took on several roles (some of the smaller monster roles, once all the makeup was on you couldn't tell anyway). The actor who played the Monkey King, Liu Xiao Ling Tong, he came from a family of Peking Opera performers who specialized in the Monkey King role, so he excelled in it.
Tumblr media
The novel Dream of the Red Chamber is originally called Story of the Stone (石头记). It centres around several large, rich, powerful families interconnected through marriage, with members serving in the court and one of the daughters even being a concubine to the Emperor. Although the story doesn't specify a dynasty, most people speculate it's likely set in Ming (the author was from the Qing Dynasty).
There are numerous storylines throughout the story, but the main one is between a young man, Baoyu, and his cousin, Daiyu (top left). This novel is incredibly complicated, with an entire profession dedicated to studying just this book (called "Redology" 红学). It can be viewed as telling the rise and fall of a family, but can also be viewed to describe a society and the rise and fall of dynasties. There are many, many characters in this book all with different story arcs. When I was a child, watching this show was just pretty clothes and hair, but as I grew, every time I re-watched the show I found reflections of life in this story. Family relationships, friendships, colleagues, bosses, this story touches on all of them, so whatever age you read this book/watch this show there's things to think about.
Many of the actors for this show were not actors by profession, literally plucked from the crowd. For two years prior to filming, all of them lived together, learning the script, reading the novel, going over it with experts, learning mannerisms, how to write calligraphy, poetry, etc. Their roles weren't immediately set, so during those two years they all tried out different roles, memorized lines, basically like living in a giant dormitory together, so once filming did start their "acting" was very natural.
Tumblr media
Water Margins is set in the Song Dynasty. This story, to me, is darker than the other 3. The story depicts a court that is very corrupt and unjust, which forces a lot of otherwise good people to resort to criminal activity. Over 100 of them gather on a mountain in the middle of a lake, called Liangshan, where they essentially become a gang.
The traditional view of them tended to be kind of like Robinhood, raiding local cities and distributing the wealth to the people but if you actually read the book it's darker. Before joining the group, some of them would kidnap women and **** them, or one person had a restaurant where she murdered customers and made them into meat buns O.O;; So...yeah, dark stuff.
But anyway, the story goes into how this group take on the courts, lots of fighting, lots of bloodshed, the ending's really tragic T_T

My Monkey, My Circus
Opening Note!
So, I've had this idea farting around in my head for a while now. I don't know if it's necessarily a good idea, but it is a silly one that makes me laugh and makes me happy so…I'm writing it! There isn't going to be a plot (at least, I don't have plans for a plot) and is supposed to be a silly little slice of life thing.
There may be some heavier topics addressed here and there when inspiration strikes me, but mostly it's just different Wukongs (and the version of you they're in love with) interacting and bouncing off each other. Even though all these different movies and TV shows are Wukong, they're all still different in their own unique ways and I want to play with what their interactions would look like! I tried my absolute best to make this as clear and non-confusing as possible by giving the different versions of Wukong and Reader nicknames, but I'm not entirely certain I succeeded.
I do have plans for future chapters but if anyone has a specific idea or scenario you think would be fun, please don't hesitate to share! I can't guarantee that I'll add everything, but part of this idea is just having fun with Wukongs of different stories!
I do plan for different chapters to be told from different perspectives as well, so while the first chapter is from the perspective of NGNR Reader (Treasure), this is not necessarily the case for future chapters. Part of the fun of this idea, for me at least, is seeing how different Wukongs, and different Readers, would react to each other. I hope that my efforts to keep it clear who is who works and that the story is enjoyable to those who read!
To help with clarification, I'm making this note the first official “chapter” that has the different nicknames for each universe, and if any important details need to be added, they can be.
Big thanks to @fredyria and @monkeykingdomblog2 for help with the nicknames and motivating me to want to write it!! Check them out!!
Nicknames:
Original book - King and Queen

I hope this isn't an odd question
But, do you think Wukong or Macaque would act or treat different their "cub" if they genders were swapped or being a female version? This is also for a Yan behavior
I don't know too much about how is the raising of a monkey from the father and mother so I was curious with this since they're both mystical demons
I was thinking about this when I saw some fanarts from the artist @/car_nimbus on Twitter, they made a neat versions of the characters with another gender
Monkey Mama
Tumblr media
(Hmm okay let me build a hypothetical OG “Female Monkey King” to work off of here and then I’ll try to translate that into LMK’s SWK. Also, I’ll probably make a second variation of this afterwards with other characters, haha. This got a little long to do both SWK and Mac!)
Sun Wukong as a character is already heavily defined by rebellion and personal choice, so I think that making him a girl only really compounds that layer of his character.
In many older narratives, female characters are often expected to be more obedient or modest than men, and very frequently only exist as prizes or, more rarely, villains. A female Sun Wukong; assuming she plays the same role as her original incarnation, defies the expectations of how “traditional” women should behave, shirking the demure and passive “ideal” and adding another layer of rebellion to her character.
(JTTW is actually pretty great in terms of female representation, with characters ranging from the perpetually good Quanyin, the eventually repentant Princess Iron Fan, and the straight up evil White Bone Spirit. I’m a big fan of how the women aren’t slid into any one “role” throughout the story.)
I think: in story, she’d likely be viewed as a sort of “anomaly”—a woman too strong, too outspoken, and too unwilling to conform to typical feminine ideals. Her defiance and arrogance might be viewed as even more scandalous by the Celestial Realm.
Instead of being made a “stable-keeper”, I think probably she’s sent to whatever Heavenly Scullery exists in that divine realm, and put to work very quickly. She would treat this “job” with indifference or even amusement at first-after all, physical labor or menial tasks don't diminish her self-worth or confidence! She’s had a life of hard work, leading an army of Yaoguai, cultivating Flower Fruit Mountain,
So she’s fine with this… at first. Then it turns out that the food she makes with her fellow low-class workers isn’t distributed amongst the people making it, but plated up nice and pretty for a bunch of “stuffy old gods” who didn’t lift a finger! Bullshit!
So obviously, the prideful Monkey Queen goes on a destructive rampage in regards to the unfair disparity of treatment, then storms back down to Earth to throw a “feel-better” party with her fellow Yaogaui.
(Which isn’t just a party, but a symbolic reclaiming of joy and community, with her monkey tribe representing the freedom she craves and the earthly bonds she prefers over heavenly authority. It's not just an escape, but a statement of independence.)
After an extensive set of repairs, the Court sends down someone to drag her back, because, you know, the local super-powered monkey is back on the loose, and that’s not exactly great for them. This time, they offer her a “better” role- she gets to become an official Peach Maiden, lucky her!
Tumblr media
Of course, it’s just another form of entrapment, but within a prettier cage. Even though she's given a cushier position, it's a veneer- she's still being silenced, controlled, and stripped of her freedom. The role played by a Peach Maiden is an inversion of Wukong's essence, as these women are happily serving the role of passive caretakers, nurturing with gentle smiles—a direct contrast to the free-willed, brash nature of the Monkey Queen.
(And while there’s nothing wrong with being demure, passive, and feminine, having people try to force her into that role is where Sun Wukong draws her line.)
Here, she is expected to watch in silence as others revel in the freedom and power denied to her. It's a different kind of prison, one that quietly erodes her spirit. When the Celestial Court tries to reintegrate her as a Peach Maiden, they are once again attempting to place her into a docile, decorative role, one that strips away her power and independence. Those immortal peach orchards, a symbol of immortality and divine favor, becomes a prison for her.
Surrounded by "ideal" women who embody the quiet, submissive role she despises, the Monkey Queen finds herself chafing under the pressure of conformity. Her energy, once boundless and chaotic, is now caged, and the simmering resentment builds.
The buildup to her inevitable rebellion after being made a Peach Maiden, then, becomes a very sympathetic moment because it's not just a rejection of the role forced on her, but a rejection of the very system that tries to diminish who she is at her core. Her rebellion isn’t about anger and shame- it’s about reclaiming her true self after having been suffocated by the expectations of the Celestial Court. Her rampage becomes an assertion of her identity as something that can't be confined by heavenly rules or social mores.
The Court, in its attempt to “contain" her, only fuels her defiance further, leading her once again to rebel.
It was never going to end well. But it ends all the same, and punishment is to be levied to the Queen, just the same as any other rebellious rule-breaker... actually, probably harsher.
There’s “you broke our rules and tried to lead a coup”, then there’s “you did all that, and we also find your very person to be wrong on a fundamental level”, and then she gets the book thrown at her twice over.
But! Then she meets Tang Sanzang, who sees something in her that neither the Celestial Realm nor her own band of Sworn Brothers saw. Not a heretic simian savaging a holy realm. Not a Queen to rally behind for their own gain.
But a lost soul in need of guidance.
And from there the Great Monk works on building Sun Wukong up as a person instead of leading her astray or trying to cut massive chunks of her personality out? And talks to her about the things she cares about? And teaches her about all the things she missed after spending five hundred years under a rock?
And then she meets Zhu Baije, who starts out a little too happy and carefree about having a beautiful woman around, but eventually comes to smash open heads when Wukong is disrespected, because that’s not just a hot woman, that’s his sister?
Or Sha Wujing, who helps her with even the smallest things, from trimming her claws to cutting her wild hair to preparing meals for the monk? And lets her perch on his shoulders and head so the queen can get some skinship in?
Then Ao Lie, who is every bit the “disappointment to the world at large” that she was considered? And they take turns braiding each other’s hair and wiping the mess from the other’s face, and sleeping in the same tent and same bedroom because it’s less effort?
She gets a dad and three little brothers?
She gets a family.
And then loses it and is alone again for several hundred years more.
So if we go with this theoretical “My natural existence has been rejected for being seen as ‘improper’ by a court of stuffy traditional assholes” and then “I dearly love/miss my dead found family” angle, I think she’d be portrayed as a very different sort of character in LMK.
She’s quicker to lash out and defend herself, and much less willing to sit around and let the world pass her by- because that’s what was demanded of her by the Celestial Realm.
Be good. Be quiet. Be demure. Be obedient. Be anything except you.
I don’t think she’d be as willing to “rest on her laurels” as her canon counterpart, given that a “quiet boring life” was what she had fought so very hard to escape in the first place, so instead of isolating herself from the world in the first place, she probably sets up a little “souvenir shop” at the foot of Flower Fruit Mountain, taking a human form to sell little knick-knacks that herald to the journey she undertook with her old friends.
In part, this is how Wukong works to honor them. To spread their legacy. To ensure that they aren’t forgotten, left as a footnote in the annals of history. To remember them.
In part, it’s how she justifies all the mistakes she’s made and the suffering she’s been through. Settling in to a pointlessly relaxed life is exactly what she fought against, after all. She’s heavily fallen into the “sunk-cost fallacy”, where giving up and settling in, to her, means “losing”. It means “everything I went through was all for nothing”. So she keeps at this little store instead of just retiring and isolating herself from the world, even though she’d be happier to ditch it and lounge about.
So when MK and his eccentric bunch of friends comes around with their boundless energy and mischief, she immediately goes, “Oh, okay! This is what I wanted!”
(It’s not. All she’s ever wanted is her friends back. How could there be anything else?)
The Monkie Kids are vibrant, eccentric, and full of qualities that immediately resonate with Wukong. They remind her of the energy, camaraderie, and sense of adventure that she once shared with her old companions. She sees MK's arrival not just as a chance to teach someone a few of her old tricks, but as an echo of her own life—a life she hasn't been able to truly let go of.
So she starts projecting- on the surface, MK is very much like her. He's spirited, good-natured, and curious- and reckless. Just like she was. Wukong latches onto this quickly, sort of using the kid as a proxy for herself. After all, if she can't go back to her old life, why not embrace a new one that feels close enough? In some ways, this marks her refusal to accept the passage of time, a desperate clinging to the hope that, through MK, she can rekindle the connections she once cherished.
However, underneath that initial enthusiasm is the repressed understanding that MK, despite his similarities to her younger self, cannot truly replace what she lost. The friends she fought beside, the battles they waged together, and the lessons they learned are unique, irreplaceable moments in her life. No matter how much MK’s gang reminds her of the past, he and his friends a stand-in for the companions she still longs for. But her deep desire to reconnect with her old friends clouds her ability to see MK for who he truly is: his own person, on his own journey.
It takes her a while to get to that point, though. So she’s more doting and affectionate, in a way that somewhat stifles her student’s training because she wants to be both her old carefree self and also a good mentor, and the two just get jumbled.
Sidenote: I think with the difference in actions and behavior, MK would be more open to viewing Fem!Wukong as a parental figure than the OG, especially since he doesn’t really have someone to fulfill that “mom” role.
For their dynamic, I think something like this would be the outcome:
———————————————————————-
The afternoon sun hangs low in the sky, painting the landscape in hues of varied orange and blue. With a tired hand, MK wipes the sweat from his brow.
He’s perched on one of the rocky spires dotting Flower Fruit Mountain, gazing at the view with a small smile of accomplishment. Training had been intense lately… if only because he had been doubling down on the time he spent practicing, without giving as much care to rest or aftercare.
After all, even though his powers were blooming steadily… his enemies also were growing in power and quantity, leading to the ever-creeping edge of fear that anything less than a constant one-hundred percent just wouldn’t be “enough”.
And right as he reaches back to grab the golden staff he has inherited from the Monkey Queen-
“MK! I told you to take a break, not run off to do more training!”
Her voice, uncharacteristically sharp, cuts through the formerly tranquil air, causing MK to jump. He turns just in time to see Sun Wukong strolling toward him, her hands on her hips and a look of mock annoyance on her face.
MK grinned sheepishly, shifting his grass-stained boots against the dirt. “I was just, you know… checking out the view.”
She raised an eyebrow, the corner of her mouth twitching in amusement as her eyes narrowed in annoyance. This kid... “Uh-huh. Checking out the view or sneaking in some practice when I wasn’t looking?”
Caught fast in his lie, MK rubbed the back of his neck, face scrunching up in embarrassment. “Maybe a little of both?”
In spite of herself, Sun Wukong quietly laughs, the sound echoing like a chiming bell through the mountain. Her long, golden hair flowed behind her in the wind, each strand catching the light like molten fire. Despite her legendary status- the rebellious warrior who’d fought the heavens and nearly won!- there was a warmth to her that MK had come to cherish.
“All work and no play, MK,” she said, sitting beside him on the rock and ruffling his hair with a fondness that always made him feel like a little kid again. “You’ll burn out before you get anywhere.”
He looked at her, eyes shining with admiration. “But you never stop training. You’ve been at this for centuries! I just…”
A pause, as his chest turns over, unsettled by the notion of opening up. But… it’s the Monkey Queen. So it.. should be okay, right?
“I want to make you proud.”
Sun Wukong’s expression softens, and she wraps an arm around his shoulders, pulling the boy close in a tight embrace. “You already make me proud, kid. You don’t have to prove anything.”
MK leaned into the touch, feeling a wave of comfort wash over him. Even from the start she’d been like this with him- protective, nurturing… and maybe a bit overbearing at times. But he didn’t mind. It made him feel safe, like no matter what challenges lay ahead, he wasn’t alone.
MK chuckled, turning his face up to meet his idol’s eyes.” I’ll keep up,” he triumphantly declares, pumping a fist.” I promise.”
“Good.” Wukong shifted, her clawed hand lightly missing his spiked locks. “Now, how about we head back to the shop and grab something to eat? You’ve earned it.”
MK’s stomach growled at the mention of food, and he nodded so eagerly that she wondered if his head wouldn’t ache from the motion. “You know, I won’t say no to a good meal.”
The Monkey Queen stood up, dusting off her mentee’s clothes before offering him a hand. “Of course you won’t. C’mon, my treat.”
———————————————————————-
Now, to answer your question about how she acts in regards to her own cub… in general I think she’s much more doting than the OG, willing to express herself through constant displays of physical affection, in ways that are far more varied.
Constant forehead smooching, cuddles, grooming sessions, all of it! Mama Wukong never wants to let go of her baby! Sit down and let her paint your nails! Let her comb and braid your hair! Let her make you a nice lunch (loaded with mystical drugs to keep you nice and sleepy for extra cuddles), or at least a filling snack! Let her pepper your face with kisses as she spins you in her powerful arms!
Lots and lots of indulgent fluffy days of binging unhealthy foods and watching cozy reruns of old shows, your head in her lap as she hums and does up your hair with her lazy hands.
Lots of reminiscing about old suitors as she considers the quietest and quickest ways to kill anyone who makes the futile attempt to pursue you in the same way.
Despite her obsessive behavior, Wukong struggles with conflicting feelings about wanting her child to be strong and independent, just like her! She pushes you to train hard and become powerful, but when you inevitably seek their own freedom or autonomy, she’d experience a mix of pride and heartbreak, pushing her deeper into possessive tendencies.
If you ever tried to leave or even just start to break away, Wukong’s worst traits would bubble up like hellfire. Just as she fought against an entire realm’s authority, she would absolutely wage a war to keep her child close, all while justifying her actions as love.
The Monkey Queen is also more willing to take routes outside of brute force if it means securing extra protection for Y/N. If Macaque or maybe Azure (or someone else like Erlang Shen) wants to try and play “suitor”, well, she’s not too interested… until the thought arises that having him around makes you extra safe! And then she’s willing to think on it.
(That’s assuming that you aren’t one of their biological kids to begin with, in which case there might be a sort of “yandere triangle”. Azure/Macaque/Erlang Shen doing his damndest to reclaim his wife, before he learns that she’s had a child while he was gone... or maybe Pigsy and Tang decided that MK needs his mentor in a more ‘accessible’ position, and plot to drag her to Megapolis…)
Lots of potential monkey mama shenanigans, basically!

DUDE
In spite of all my complaining I do think Monkie Kid has it’s good points but on the other hand I also feel like it’s something of a gosh dern shame that in the west its “well-meaning failure” version of Sun Wukong is much more well known than og classic Sun Wukong if for no other reason than the sheer comedy of a tiny little monkey man being one of the most relentless, calculating, and ruthless mfers in the entire story.

AU idea: Wukong goes into labor with the stone egg WHILE he's fighting Macaque
Not sure which fight you mean honestly, but I assume you meant the "OG" fight back during the Journey days.
I imagine this all occurs likely in a version of the Jttw Stone Egged au where Macaque joins the gang after he found out.
Wukong and Macaque are fighting neck and neck when Macaque finally stops to listen to Wukong's shouts;
Wukong, in tears: "Macaque please! Don't make me do this! I'm with-" Macaque: "What's that weird noise??" Wukong: "Huh?" Macaque: "It sorta sounds like a... bag of water? With a heartbeat inside of- OHHHH!" Macaque: (*points at Wukong's pants*) Wukong: (*looks down and sees that his water has broken*) Both monkeys: (*start screaming!*)
Macaque drops his glamour immediately to tend to his mate.
Macaque: "I have so many questions! Who, why, and how long?!" Wukong, has Macaque's hand in a death-grip: "You, Mountain, 500 years." Macaque, mental gears turning: "Huh!?! How did- ohhh wait... self-spawning. If I had kept coming and fed you peaches you wouldn't have-" Wukong: "Yeah!" Macaque: "And since I wa- Am your mate the kid would be-" Wukong: "YEAH." Macaque, trying to lighten the mood: "Do I get visitation rights?" Wukong, voice deepening: "DON'T PUSH IT, BUD!"
Eventually the Pilgrims and Guanyin catch up (the Bodhisattva heard that water break from across the sea), and see the Six Eared Macaque has completely dropped his Monkey King glamour and is trying his best to keep the real Sun Wukong's breathing steady.
Guanyin quickly gets to work; bringing Wukong to somewhere nice and warm and dry to have the baby. They suggest that the reappearance of the other parent (i.e Macaque) caused the Egg to prematurely decide to make itself known.
Bonus if this is the first time certain Pilgrims (besides a wise dragon-dragon) heard of such a thing XD
Ao Lie, excited: "It's already happening!? Congratulations!!" Wukong: "Thanks Lie, but I'd prefer to get the kid out before you all start thanking me." Zhu Bajie, oblivious: "Wait what kid!? They heck is everyone talking about?!" Tripitaka: (*hyperventilating into his hat like it's a paper bag*) Sha Wujing: "I suppose well wishes are in order! Did Brother Wukong drink from the same river and choose to decline the cure?" Wukong: "No, it's HIS fault." (*jabs thumb at Macaque*) Macaque: (*blushing, waves nervously at his mate's Pilgrim brothers*) Ao Lie, breaking the tension: "So this is your Equal in Strength you've been telling us about!" Macaque, slight smugness: "That's what you've been calling me?" Wukong, gritting teeth from pain: "Not now Mihou..."
Macaque stays at Wukong's side the whole time, even as his instincts are going nuts, snarling at the Pilgrims if they dare approach. And even when his hand was definitely broken by Wukong's grip during a really bad contraction.
The rest of the Pilgrims meditate and pray for Wukong and the baby's health. Ao Lie makes a point of chilling in his dragon form to scare off any passing creatures or people - dragons don't like being disturbed when they're laying an egg, and he imagines its the same for Stone Monkeys.
After a lot of pushing and encouragement, a tiny egg makes itself known, cracking open shortly thereafter.
What lies within?
A chirpy, chubby-faced baby monkey with glowing (Macaque starts crying then) ears and dark fur - the little thing's cries sounding indignant as if they'd been awakened from a long sleep. Guanyin makes a point to gather the citrine and amethyst-imbedded shell of the newborn for the parents to keep.
Wukong and Macaque can't even remember what they were fighting about earlier - all that matters is the clinging baby on Wukong's chest. Little thing is a bit smaller than expected due to their premature birth, but they're healthy and hungry.
The rest of the Pilgrims are allowed in after everything is cleaned up and Macaque's hand has been bandaged.
First thing out of anyone's mouth is;
Zhu Bajie: "I thought monkeys had litters?" Wukong, growling: "Don't jinx me."
So yeah, now the Journey has a newborn baby and it's dad along for the ride.

Could this be the origin of the term "Handsome Monkey King"?
Someone on the Journey to the West discord posted their own folk interpretation of mei (美, "beautiful"), as in Meihou wang (美猴王, "Handsome Monkey King"). They believed that the two prongs on the top referenced Sun Wukong's feathered cap. But others pointed out that this was not the case.
This reminded me of my own theory on the possible origin of Meihou wang (美猴王). I have previously suggested on my blog that the title is a play on Mihou wang (獼猴王, "Macaque/Monkey King"). This is because the Song dynasty version of Journey to the West calls Sun Wukong's antecedent Mihou wang. Even the Chinese version of an Indian jataka tale where the Buddha is a monkey king calls him Mihou wang. Also, Wiktionary states that older Chinese (and ethnic dialect) pronunciations of mei (美) sound more like "mi."
I must point out that I am NOT fluent in Chinese; nor am I a historical linguist of the language. This is just something that dawned on me one day. I would like feedback from more knowledgeable persons.

Tripitaka stared into the pool of water, his mind and heart in a sort of turmoil he hadn't felt since he was a young boy, learning the truth about his heritage and how he had ended up in the river where his own Master had once found him, face to face with the man who had killed his biological father and kept his mother imprisoned as his bride. Although this time, the emotions he were feeling were not caused by the actions and sins of another man... but rather presumably his own. Tripitaka knows death and suffering and what it is to take a life, he'd never told his students this, but he is jsut as guilty and on this journey of their for his own redemption just as much as they are. Only where his students made an effort to better themselves and listen to his teachings, even Wukong who had seemed to be antagonistic at best of his words would still at least acknowledge and try to obey, it appears Tripitaka himself had been actively and unknowing breaking one of his most core oaths as a buddhist monk this entire time. And it had taken being transported thousands of years into the future and meeting and older and wiser version of his most troublesome student and his excitable apprentice and violent but loving... fiancé? Suitor? Tripitaka still wasn't quite sure what the Macaque's role in Wukong's life was and how far along in their relationship the two are, but all he could gather from those around him when he asked was "it's complicated" and the assurance that the Macaque loved his student dearly and Wukong was reluctant but not against being receptive towards his feelings in turn. But it had taken meeting these three for the monk to realize this truth.
Even now the wicked image of those terrible scars branding Wukong's forehead burned into his memory, the knowledge that he had used the mantra meant to guard and protect others from Wukong's rage and chaos to inflict punishment and suffering was acid to his veins. He had failed as a teacher and a buddhist by hurting Wukong so, and yet he could tell the king held a great deal fo respect and reverence for him even after all these years in a future when he had presumably been long gone. It was written all around him from the newly painted mural on a wall to the origami figured placed upon a miniature shrine on the table to simply the way Wukong would speak and look at him when he though Tripitaka was not looking. And Tripitaka could not understand why. Why would Wukong still care so deeply for him?
Even now Tripitaka had probably hurt Wukong once more, having fled at the sight for those terrible scars without a word, ignoring Baije, Ao Lie, and Wujing's cries as he ran. How Wukong would have undoubtedly awoken from the sound of their shouting as he had always been the lightest sleeper of the group to fond Macaque had shown them a glimpse of what he had kept hidden under magic and illusions. And although he had known this Wukong perhaps a day at most, Tripitaka knew in his heart that he would be terribly worried about him. Even so, Tripitaka cannot bring himself to go back. Not without properly meditating on his actions both past and future, not without calming the turmoil on his heart.
He isn't given a chance when he hears footsteps approach.
"Master?"
Tripitaka's felt himself tensed as the one person he didn't want to see at this moment spoke up. Opening his eyes he glanced over to see Sun Wukong standing a distance away, his red eyes and scarred form hidden once more behind a glamour yet not annouce of the concern in his gaze was false. Without saying anything the monkey walked over, sitting beside him. The two remained silent, neither really sure where to go from there, but reluctant to be the first to speak.
Wukong's the one to break the silence.
"Ao Lie told me about what happened. What... what Macaque showed you."
Guess they were going to talk about it then.
"Are you angry?" Tripitaka asked, carefully avoiding Wukong's burning gaze, "That your... that he showed us what's beneath your glamour?"
"Eh... kind of." Wukong grunted, his tail tapping at Tripitaka's leg as it twitched with his emotions, "I'm not happy he showed you guys, that was pretty private and I keep a glamour on to hide it for a reason... but he meant well. Macaque is... how do I put this... he's a theatre guy. Likes to be big and dramatic, tends to blow things way out of proportion because of it. And he may act like he's the careful one, but in a lot of ways he can be even more reckless than me when it comes to the things he cares about."
"And... that's okay for you?" Tripitaka questioned, "That he went ahead and did this without your permission? That he's so reckless and doesn't seem to take your feelings into account?"
"Nothing I'm not used to." He felt Wukong's shoulders raise an lower next to him, indicating he had shrugged, "And with Macaque it's... it's different. He isn't doing this to hurt me or to make me feel embarrassed or ashamed. He's blunt and a little mean, but I see right through his tough guy act, he was trying to protect me."
Trilitaka considered his student's words, trying to figure out what he could possibly mean about the Macaque breaching Wukong's privacy to protect him up until his mind inevitably drifted to his own Wukong. The one that was presumably left back in their timeline, with the binding fillet still on him. Before he'd seen the scars on the Wukong of this timeline, he may have not thought anything about the mantra the Bodhisattva had given him to activate the relic, after all, why would any item given my the goddess of mercy and am agent of the Buddha possibly cuase harm!? But now, seeing the consequences for himself...
"He was hoping that showing me would make me more reluctant to use it against you." Tripitaka spoke in realization, finally understanding the Macaque's rage at his earlier confusion and why he had gone against Wukong so overtly. The monkey beside him laughed, and Trilitaka finally found the strength to look him in the eye.
"Yeah, that's Macaque alright. The dumbass who tries to protect me by being an absolute ass of himself." Wukong shook his head in fond exasperation, "Don't get me wrong... I won't mind not having that thing used against me ever again, you were a bit excessive about it, but it hadn't exactly been unwarranted either. My time in the mountain had truly turned me into a beast of sorts, the type of beast who needed a leash and collar to protect both myself and those around me. Guanyin had been right to entrust it to you."
Tripitaka stared at his student gobsmacked, wondering how in all the realms Wukong could possibly justify that!? And how could be speak with such wisdom and conviction when it came to his own punishments!? The monkey king smiled, extending his paw out.
"I think it's about time we get back to the others." Wukong pulled Tripitaka to his feet, "Before Baije steps on Macaque's tail and my annoying suitor kill him."
"Well we wouldn't want that." Tripitaka let out a sigh, his turbulent emotions easing into soemthign much fonder, "So it's true what your brothers are speculating. You and the Macaque together?"
Here Wukong's face turns as pink as his facial mask as he realized what he'd let slip. Tripitaka barely had a moment to register it before the monkey pulled his hand back as if burned, turning away form the monk and crossing his arms in a defiant manner.
"I-I don't know what your talking about! Macaque is just an annoying pest who thinks he can try to mess with me by playing at being a co-mentor with MK and bugging me!"
Tripitaka's huff of amusement turned into a mirthfil chuckle. It seems even after all these centuries there is still that spark of defiance and brattiness in his student.
"So it guess the bet I heard Baije and Ao Lee making about which of the two of you is going to be... what's the word... courtnapped? Is nothing to worry about?"
"I mean... I-I never said he didn't manage to... win my challenge and steal me..." At this Wukong hid his face in his scarf, embarrassed as he tried to explain himself, "He was just messing around though. Proving he could do it if he... if he wanted. He didn't actually- A-Anyways what do you mean Baije and Ao Lie made a bet!? Isn't gambling against buddhist doctrine!?"
If anything, Wukong's fluster only made Tripitaka's laughter grow louder as he happily let himself be led onto the nimbus cloud that Wukong had bragged so much about.

I would *love* to see the genderbent version of the Baby Fever / "Impregnate me now!" post. Depending on the Monkey, it could be the Queen herself rather than the S/O asking for a baby
Ohhhhhhhhhh I agree on the queen part, yes indeed😁😁😁
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Lmk Wukong) You have been giving her baby fever for a long time, for years you had tended to no only the baby monkeys FFM but also to Mk, Mei and for some reason Redson. Your like another father to them, a scary one but well not as scary as pigsy but your Definitely much stricter then him as you push Mk a bit to do better things Mostly for her own good. One day she and Mk lost you at that Mall, and the found you comforting a crying girl who got lost from her mother. She cried and hid her face in your chest, and you wrapped you jacket around her she was immediately comforted as she called you baba feeling safe with you while you spoke with mall security. Yup that was the final straw..........
(Wukong) Mk their's something I need to tell My husband
Back At FFM
(Wukong) IMPREGNATE ME AT ONCE!!!!!!
(Male Y/n)HUUUUHHHH?!?!?!?!?😳😳😳🥵🥵🥵
Tumblr media
(NR Wukong) I doubt she would get baby fever on the fly, but you do things that may build up to it. Like it's one thing for you to take Care of Li as you treat her like a daughter and treating Her boyfriend Stu like a son. What stranger is that you do the same for Their friends as well, even spoiled rich girl Ao bing wasn't safe from your fathering. Wukong finally asked what has gotten into you lately, that's when you told her that you wanted a baby cub. You told her, when a lost boy had mistaken you as his father and even when you found his real father, he still wouldn't stop calling you baba and you felt strange ever since😣. Wukong jaw dropped her husband got baby fever and he doesn't even know, well then...........
(Wukong) F*CK ME!!!!!!🤤🥵
(Male y/n)...........................Now I normally would but I feel like it's different this time😳😦
Tumblr media
(HIB Wukong) Ohhhhhhhhhh boi you make her ovaries explode every second of every day. I mean, they did that when she first met you, and you kept doing that now. You take care of silly boy the most making sure he stays out of trouble, and make sure to groom Luier and take care of her hair. When Wukong saw that she was down for the count, then you delt the final blow when you were called baba by both the kids and some other children in the village who saw you as a father figure. Wukong couldn't take it anymore
(Wukong) cubs, cubs, Cubs CUBS!!!!! I WANT MORE CUBS🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵
(Male y/n) WUKONG PLEASE WE'RE IN PUBLIC!!!!!😣😳
Tumblr media
(MKR Wukong) She would never know she had baby fever until its to late for her, like it's was one thing for fruity to address you as baba and you don't have an opinion on it. Then she sees it everywhere you guys go together, whether it be a small boy who needs his ball back from a tree, or a little girl who sad that her plushie ripped and you sat there and sew it back to together. Then what shocked Wukong was how you got lots of rebellious teenagers to open up and vent alot easier then the monk and even their own parents did. Wukong was admittedly impressed with your quirks, but the blow was a mother struggling with her baby and you took the baby boy from her and he immediately stopped crying as you spoke sofly to him.
(Wukong) I.....I think I wanna baby😳😳😳
(Male Y/n) Yeah, I'll do that in a minute hun🙄😒😑
Tumblr media
(Netflix Wukong) Now I see her baby fever being caused by her lack their of a family growing up😥 She was all alone for most of her youth until you made it better. Well then she met dragon king, and Lin and finally you, the village weirdo although you were completely unorthodox you were kind, patient and supportive. You never judged her and for that she fell in love with you, but lately she's been feeling a bit hollow like something is missing until she saw what it was. You were playing with the village children, from making up games, and drawing and making snacks for them. Wukong eyes Widened at the care you give to them, and so it clicked she knew what was missing.
(Wukong) Y/n...I want a baby🥺
(Male y/n) ABOUT TIME I wasn't doing all the fatherly stuff for NO reason😑😠
Tumblr media
(BMW Wukong) You were always quite rough around the edges and that's what she like about you, but what she didn't know what about your baby fever. It was a bit before she met you and you were hired to watch over a celestials child for a few days, and you turned out to be more of a father then the girls really that which broke your heart then you met your wife. You never brought it up to her in fear of you would come off as pressuring her, but your wife was smarter and more aware then you thought.
(Wukong) Ohhhhhhhhhh Y/n, how do you feel about cubs
(Male Y/n) I would like that, but I hope you know their might be more than one at the first try😐😐😐
(Wukong)..........what do you mean by that😳😳😳😳😳
Tumblr media
(Destined one) Ok, so you were acting strange lately. She's been noticing how you like to lay on her stomach at all times while slightly whimpering. She felt your hollow feelings and mild depression and it's been going on for a while. When the destined one asked what was wrong, you just told her that something was missing. That when you and your wife had separate experiences, she had saved a young child from another demon who wanted to eat her, and the little clung on to her for safety while in the village you had tended to a crying little girl who scraped her knees and you put a Bandage on it making her smile and you both figured out what was missing.
(Destined one) IMPREGNATE ME AT ONCE!!!😫😫😫
(Male Y/n) I WANNA A BABY MONKEY CUB!!!!!!🤩🤩🤩
(Both) WAIT REALLY?!?!?!?😳😳😳
