Okay... so I would not have expected Eva to have been the killer at all. I thought the devs were already pulling the rug out from us when Wolfgang, our rival was killed first, I thought Eva was gonna stick around for at least Chapter 5. But now our detective buddy is gone, too.

I'm thinking Kai and Diana might fill the roles later on, but we'll see.

Also the art is so good... the execution was amazing, the entire sequence of Wolfgang attacking Diana... *chefs kiss*, and the voice acting was top-notch all the way through.

I'm gonna make a prediction for now: Jean will fall into the leadership role now that Wolfgang is gone; and I doubt they're gonna make him a victim to pull the same trick twice; so they'll probably make him a killer.

Alright, so I've finally gotten around to playing Project: Eden's Garden Chapter 1 with some pals of mine.

We haven't started the first trial yet, so PLEASE no spoilers, but I'm gonna give my thoughts of everything up until that point.

I'll make a follow-up once I've fully completed it. There will still be spoilers below.

So first off, Eva. Her spritework is great; especially the sad/scared ones. I'm surprised at the twist of her talent, but I'm not ready to take it at face value just yet. I think there's something more waiting further down the road.

Second, I love all the little references. Cassidy's blackmail being a Jerma joke, the "Game Sphere" console, and Mark's song being a remix of a UDG track was a really nice touch.

On the topic of blackmail, Desmond's seems like it's gonna be important. If his room really is stocked with weapons, then things are gonna get hairy once he dies; everyone's gonna know, and everyone will have easy access to weapons.

Also the biggest spoiler so far: I KNEW IT! I called that Wolfgang was gonna die in chapter 1, and that's definitely come true. His blackmail is probably gonna be expanded upon in chapter 5 or 6... he gives big Rantaro energy now.

And now, my prediction for the killer. Diana kinda seems the most suspicious; I remember someone mentioned her using her makeup skills to hide an injury; and the evidence suggests she might have.

Also, I'm curious about that secret door in the pharmacy. I suspect Wolfgang has actually found the code and seen thought the other side, but it's entirely possible it's not related to the murder. Too soon for me to say.

Okay wait wait wait hear me out.

The word "Mikan" means tangerine/mandarin. "Tsumiki" translates to "sin tree".

Put those two together, and you get a reference to the garden of Eden. In which Mikan is Eve and Junko is the serpent.

But that's not quite what happens. The serpent tempted Eve to break a rule of her own free will, gaining knowledge at the price of exile.

Mikan was seduced, lured in, promised love and understanding by the Ultimate Despair herself. She turned her back on the rest of the world for what she thought was human connection.

Comparing Eve to Mikan is like... shall we say...

comparing apples to oranges.

Honestly V3's best piece of worldbuilding is establishing a second school dedicated to Ultimates (with the assumption it's operating at the same time as Hope's Peak).

Like sure, you could portray HPA and the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles as rival institutions. Their sports/academic teams competing against each other is a given, but with the added drama of the two schools trying to recruit more talented students to further their own mysterious goals.

OR

you could imagine the UA as a bargain-bin version of HPA. HPA has nearly a century of renown and glory that overshadows all other institutions, which could also mean they have the ability to scout for students and enroll them before any other academy.

The UA ends up with all the leftovers and dropouts that the HPA turns away or expells, meaning you get some... less than ideal Ultimates. Penultimates, if you will.

Kaito has the title of Astronaut, but has never been to space

Shuichi is branded the Ultimate Detective, but only after solving one case.

Kokichi declares himself a "Supreme Leader" over a gang of delinquents who pull pranks.

It makes sense for these second-stringers to be turned away or ignored by HPA, and wind up at a less prestigious school. However, sometimes the UA manages to get their hands on genuine talent (like Kirumi or Maki) first.

The first half is ver batim to the in game dialogue

The second half is kind of off the cuff because I originally thought Akane said this line, but it was Ibuki

Originally I was gonna have Akane be like wtf is love?? And that's why she was asking Kazuichi if he felt the same way about Sonia. But I think there's something poetic about Ibuki, who consider lovers as a temporary physical thing (her Island Mode Ending), asking Kaz about love.

The ending is kinda Ibuki reevaluating what Fuyuhiko and Peko's relationship was, and touch how Kaz wants to get close to people but it's very hard for him to lose relationships.
