When was the last time you walked barefoot in the grass?? Connecting your bare skin to the ground known as grounding or earthing can have many benefits. Your body runs through a type of electrical current, and it's naturally able to absorb electrical charges from the earth. Your skin acts like a natural"conductor", your feet are believed especially to be good at receiving the earth's electricity. Our brain, heart beat and neurotransmitter activity also relies on electrical signals. Simply by walking barefoot we can boost our immune system, it needs fresh electrons to keep you healthy (much needed these days). It's good for your heart, balancing it into rhythm and also your sleep patterns, helping with insomnia. Lowers stress 'cause we all need some stress busting these days. Grounding lowers your cortisol levels(which is your stress hormone). It helps minimize all that junk electricity that our bodies constantly absorb with our phones, wifi and laptop signals. I went for years with no house plants. I would get one and it would die so I just gave up. Until about a year ago. I started with one and it stayed alive, progress... I added a few more, all still living. Now there's plants in most of the rooms in the house. A few reasons to have house plants: 1. Boost your mood 2. Release oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide, freshening up the air and removing toxins 3. Helps regulate humidity 4. Visual beauty 5. Plants are friends, talk to them. 6. I'll be quite honest, I'm terrible at sticking to a routine That being said, I'm a firm believer of incorporating daily habits one or two at a time. It's worked time and time again when I want to add something new into my health regime. Often we get overwhelmed with a new program/ lifestyle change when we look at the whole. Breaking it down into small steps makes it much more easier to manage and to stick to. This week I added Ayurvedic foot massage to my nightly routine and 2-5 minutes of rebounder (personal trampoline) to my morning routine. So far so good 🤞. Sunday (in the bathtub, most of my good "downloads" happen there) I also wrote out what I wanted to include in my daily routine, evaluated what was working and what wasn't. Thought about the my day and when was the best time to do the things I wanted. Tip: loosely plan your weekend too, often our weekly schedule gets thrown out the window on the weekend and by Monday we get discouraged. It's okay for your weekend routine to be different from your weekday. You might not be able to do "all the things" so prioritize what's most important to you and don't beat yourself up over the rest. Creating daily habits doesn't have to be overwhelming. Be easy on yourself. It's hard to change things you've been doing for 10, 20,30,40 years.... Just your daily reminder to drink some water.. Water is unsurpassed in its ability to heal, from drinking it, bathing in it, even just the sight of water heals the spirit. When we are injured, our bloodstream carries repair substances to the injury site, 81% of that bloodstream is water. Water is fundamental to life. Dehydration can lead to a long list of potential problems...and often we don't even realize we're dehydrated. The sensation for thirst often lags behind the need for water. Water: the internal sea (love this), allows the reactions necessary for life to proceed. I love having my water in a 1 litre mason jar, easy to remember to drink 2-3 jar fulls. It's always within reach. Tip: Warm/room temperature water is easier for body to digest and good digestion is key to a healthy immune. Are you drinking enough water?? The body knows...it sends us signals all the time to let us know what it needs but quite often we ignore it until it's screaming at us or shutting down. Monday I launched my website, Tuesday I let go of my nourishthechaos handle, by Tuesday afternoon my body started talking loudly. I hadn't listen that close to it the past week. Studying Ayurveda I know my main constitution is Vata. I also know when I feel unbalanced my body will put on weight to feel more grounded regardless of what I'm eating or how much I'm exercising. So when I pulled on my favorite jeans and they were shall we say snug...it made me pause. Then when my husband casually commented on my instant weight gain, it hit home. This is when I know I need to up my self-care game. Lean more into my daily routine. More quiet time in the morning, Abhyanga (self oil massage) on the daily, slow mindful exercise (yoga or walks), nourishing foods, limit the caffeine (I've been on a coffee kick and my adrenals aren't happy), prioritize my sleep...this is what my body is asking for. Your body is always talking to you and what it has to say is as individual as you are. Finding out what it/you needs takes stepping back, digging deep and listening. A bittersweet feeling...giving up my nourishthechaos handle It's been mine for over 2 years now. It's the embodiment of why I started on this path of Holistic Wellness.
