Imagine a pinecone as heavy as a bowling ball and the size of a chihuahua. Believe it or not, such pinecones exist—and they belong to the coulter pine (Pinus coulteri), a conifer that can be found in parts of North America including California and Mexico. Infamous among loggers and foresters, this tree is nicknamed "the widowmaker" because of the unlucky individuals who met their fate as a result of its falling pinecones. This species produces some of the largest pinecones on the planet, weighing up to 11 lbs (5 kg).

So I got a Nikon Z8...

The last decent camera I had was a Nikon 8008s. My Lord, that was an awesome camera. Love the crap out of it. It was a big step up from my first 35mm camera, a Canon A-1. I loved the crap out of that one too. But when digital, I got an 3 megapixel Olympus and a Nikon Coolpix. Then I meandered over to an iPhone for years. My current iPhone is a 15 Max Pro and it can take badass photos.

You know I had to take some photos before I read the manual. Admittedly, the manual is helpful.

Here is the same composition that was shot on Nikon Z8 with a NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR Lens at max zoom.

The on camera tools in the Z8 are insane compared to the 8008.

So then I I threw on a red filter to do the Ansel Adams thing with as much as I could.

Here is the final image with post processing in Lightroom.
