What is it like to have gender dysphoria?
Like looking in the mirror and not seeing yourself. You see a body, and it mirrors your movements. You logically know that is you, but that is not you. It can't be. When you close your eyes and see yourself, you look nothing like that. Sound nothing like that person does. But everyone else sees you as you are in the mirror.
It feels like you can't escape that person in the mirror. Like, the differences between what you look like and what they look like are weighing down on your body.

“When you notice a cat in profound meditation, The reason, I tell you, is always the same: His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name: His ineffable effable Effanineffable Deep and inscrutable singular name.”
— T. S. Eliot, from “The Naming of Cats”

A Letter To My Inlaws
“My body, my choice” --This statement in relation to the vaccine isn’t accurate or reasonable to use because it is never just your body when it comes to disease and vaccinations. In getting a vaccine, you are not only protecting yourself, but you are also protecting every person you come into contact with every single day. You might never catch covid without the vaccine, but it’s not just your life you are putting at risk. You are putting your partner at risk. You are putting your kids at risk. You are raising the risk for every cashier you come into contact with while you grocery shop. There are people out there who cannot get vaccinated for medical reasons, and rely on you to be vaccinated to help keep the virus out of their day to day activities, and when you do not vaccinate, you are choosing to put their lives at risk too. When I became pregnant several years back, I got to choose for myself what to do with that pregnancy. No one else's body was at risk due to the choices I made for myself and my body. “My body, my choice” was relevant because it was only my body that was affected by my choice. If I had chosen differently, I could have died trying to carry an ectopic pregnancy to term, but no one else's life was at stake. When it comes to vaccines, it is never just me that I am putting at risk when I make my choice. I am choosing to increase or decrease the risks for everyone that I come into contact with.
I am pro- alternative medicine when it comes to things like having a cold (vitamin c, honey), or a sore back (heat pads, yoga). Absolutely use lavender to help you sleep. Use peppermint halos to fight that headache. Not everything requires a pill to fix by any stretch of the imagination. On the other hand, I am still pro-science. You cannot cure appendicitis with essential oils. You cannot fight cancer with just a change in diet (though I am pro-marijuana use in conjunction with modern medicine in this specific case.) Choosing only alternative medicine or only modern medicine isn’t good for your body when it comes to things like taking antibiotics when you don’t need them, or not getting surgery when your organs fail. There is absolutely a balance here that respects multiple points of view.
Vaccines and the medical community at large have absolutely lied and misled large groups of people before, however, every example of this that I can find has been a malicious attempt to control groups of minorities. For example, Black folks and other people of colour (Mexican/Spanish populations, Indigenous groups) have a history of being sterilized without their consent, and/or being experimented on without their knowledge or consent. This has never, ever been the case for middle class white people, especially not on a global scale. They have always been brushed under rugs and not reported on, and heavily relied on only word of mouth within those specific communities.
Something that really upset me about choosing not to vaccinate due to a (maliciously fake) risk of autism is that I hear “I would rather risk my childs life and the lives of every child they come into contact with than risk them getting autism.” You are telling me that autism is worse than death, and the death of other people's children. Autism isn’t this dire problem that people make it out to be. I have at least two siblings on the spectrum, and several friends too. It upsets me to hear parents saying they would rather their child die than end up like my brother. My brother is one of the sweetest kids I’ve ever met. He is polite and kind and loving. It is not a fate worse than death.
Without vaccinating, you are going to miss out on major life events with your daughter and I. You will not be invited to our second wedding, as many of my friends and family are immunocompromised and I’m not willing to put them at risk by inviting folks who have chosen to remain unvaccinated. You will miss out on holding your newborn grandkid, as I am not willing to put a child's’ life at risk by potentially exposing them to preventable risks. You will miss out on hugs and kisses, birthdays, holidays, vacations, all because you’re not willing to take a small step to keep yourselves and your loved ones safe.
What is it exactly that pushed you to a hard no to vaccines? What evidence did you come across to make you feel like it was the best choice for your body, our bodies, and the bodies of your community? I don’t think of you as tinfoil-hat kind of people at all, you frequently display excellent critical thinking skills and are well educated in a variety of subjects, not at all the type to fall into these misinformation traps. What has frightened you, or led you to believe this is actively dangerous for you and your loved ones? What precisely has convinced you here?
I want you to know that I have so much love and respect for you. You are trying your best to make good choices with the information you have. I am here with these words to try and show you just how much information is out there that you are missing, or choosing not to see as valid information. Vaccines are out there saving lives every single day. We no longer have to have people living on iron lungs due to polio because vaccines have eradicated polio. How was this bad for people?

Many of its Fellows have been involved in developing landmark vaccines. Moreover, the holdings of the College’s Historical Medical Library and Mütter Museum provide unique resources that illuminate the history of vaccination.
The College sees the opportunity to inform and educate the public about the history of vaccination as part of its general mission “to advance the cause of health while upholding the ideals and heritage of medicine."” https://yourlocalepidemiologist.substack.com/p/role-in-the-transmission-chain-vaccinated?fbclid=IwAR0NV6IYUjmK9XYVmVJ9FvN4A67RI-iOJeM1zl4fNTyQpW_5BOscJESltEc “Vaccines continue to help on the individual-level: they keep you out of the hospital. They also continue to help on a population-level: You play less of a role in the transmission chain than unvaccinated. If and when a vaccinated person is contagious, it’s for less amount of time compared to unvaccinated (6 days vs. 18 days). This will no doubt help end the pandemic. But, even given this, we all still need to wear our masks to stop transmission at every corner.”
https://www.technologyreview.com/2021/10/05/1036408/silicon-valley-millionaire-steve-kirsch-covid-vaccine-misinformation/ What has alarmed many of the scientists associated with CETF, though, are Kirsch’s reactions to the work he’s funded—both successes and failures. He’s refused to accept the results of a hydroxychloroquine trial that showed the drug had no value in treating covid, for instance, instead blaming investigators for poor study design and statistical errors.
He’s also publicly railed against what he claims is a campaign against drugs like fluvoxamine and ivermectin. And, according to three members of CETF’s scientific advisory board, he put pressure on them to promote fluvoxamine for clinical use without conclusive data that it worked for covid.
More recently, he’s adopted extremist positions on covid vaccines, which he alleges are “toxic.” He has claimed that one in 1,000 people who have received mRNA vaccines have died as a result, and even claimed the vaccines “kill more people than they save” at an FDA public forum, which was first reported by the Daily Beast. [This is provably not true]

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3136032/ On the fraudulent study that linked autism to the mmr vaccine: “The final episode in the saga is the revelation that Wakefield et al.[1] were guilty of deliberate fraud (they picked and chose data that suited their case; they falsified facts).[9] The British Medical Journal has published a series of articles on the exposure of the fraud, which appears to have taken place for financial gain.[10–13] It is a matter of concern that the exposé was a result of journalistic investigation, rather than academic vigilance followed by the institution of corrective measures.”
https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2020/10/how-change-mind-anti-vaxxer/616722/ “Anti-vaccine groups have also targeted Black people. About a decade ago, anti-vaxxers in Minnesota invited the discredited researcher Andrew Wakefield, who falsely tied vaccines to autism, to give talks to the state’s Somali immigrant community. Vaccination rates among Somalis plummeted, and a few years later, the community suffered a large measles outbreak.”

Discusses many of the most prevalent reasons people are not ready to be vaccinated, along with answers from scientific communities. https://www.vaccineconfidence.org/research “Despite the historic success of immunisation in reducing the burden of childhood illness and death, episodes of public concerns and rumours around vaccines have occurred around the world, spreading quickly and sometimes seriously eroding public confidence in immunisation and ultimately leading to vaccine refusals and disease outbreaks.
Although reports of public concerns and questions around the safety and relevance of vaccines have been on the increase, aside from monitoring of adverse events following immunisation (AEFI), there is neither a systematic monitoring of broader public vaccine concerns nor a tool to assess risk levels of rumours and concerns to potential programme disruptions, vaccine refusals and potential disease outbreaks.”

“Even people who have recovered from COVID-19 are urged to get vaccinated, especially as the extra-contagious delta variant surges — and a new study shows survivors who ignored that advice were more than twice as likely to get reinfected.”

The FDA has not authorized or approved ivermectin for the treatment or prevention of COVID-19 in people or animals. Ivermectin has not been shown to be safe or effective for these indications.
There’s a lot of misinformation around, and you may have heard that it’s okay to take large doses of ivermectin. It is not okay.
Even the levels of ivermectin for approved human uses can interact with other medications, like blood-thinners. You can also overdose on ivermectin, which can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hypotension (low blood pressure), allergic reactions (itching and hives), dizziness, ataxia (problems with balance), seizures, coma and even death.”
