there is something i’ve been wanting to talk about for a while now. it's been on the back of my mind and i feel like it’s something that should be thought about. this post is less of a forceful sort of “you should think like this!” sort of thing but more of a food for thought. everytime ive seen ship wars (especially ships that haven’t been confirmed canon) there are always people who bring up certain moments that convey romantic attraction of two or more characters based on assumptions of the viewer. they then use those moments as a means of telling the other person in the argument “hey, this moment that i thought was romantic is proof that this ship has more chances of being canon than yours!” and vice versa.
in general, this is fine. i feel like if you’re having a discussion with somebody on the probability of a ship being canon, it would make sense to bring up moments between the two or more characters as way to prove your point. so overall, this is perfectly logical. the problem is, these tactics aren't always used during civilized discussions or arguments, these are used as attacks towards the other person. the attacks become even more aggressive if they(the aggressor) have more people on their side. because suddenly, the second more than one person agrees that a moment is romantic, the ship is canon.
this has always bothered me because people who believe that truly think that the creator of the show would agree. i've learnt over time that this isn’t the case. majority of the time, creators don't have the mindsets that fandoms have. and more often than not, they see their shows from a surface level point of view. meaning that they don't look into or analyze things NEARLY as much as fandoms do. even if it seems so blatantly obvious that whatever scene that conveys an emotion in the fans, is intended. there are many examples i can think of when these sorts of things happened but a big one that sticks out to me is the idea that pacifica is abused by her parents in gravity falls.
when the northwest mansion mystery came out(and even before that episode) people wholeheartedly believed that pacifica was abused. it was one of the main things that EVERYBODY talked about(myself included!) there was an abundance of fanfictions, and posts, and ideas, that revolved around the whole concept of pacifica being abused. it made perfect sense too, i mean you gotta be really messed up in the head if just listening to a literal BELL scares you. but then it was confirmed by alex hirsch that this wasn't the case. on the northwest mansion mystery commentary(available on yt) with alex hirsch, featuring matt braly and jackie buscarino(va for pacifica). it was confirmed that pacifica wasn't abused at all. alex hirsch was appalled that people would even think that, he made it clear that in his mind, pacifica's parents were just douchey people that do douchey things. alex hirsch couldn't wrap his head around as to why people would even think that. of course fans were allowed to do what they wanted, and if they connected with pacifica because they thought she was abused, that’s okay. but alex hirschs’ commentary really shows you how creators really think about their shows.
this isn’t even the only example i can think of, there were SO MANY cases of fans seeing things that the creators wouldn’t have even thought about! i mean just seeing how owen dennis(the creator of infinity train) didnt consider lake being non-binary until fans made the connection shows you how little creators/writers think about those kinds of things. the only person i can think of that even CONSIDERS viewing their show from a fandom mindset is dana terrace. THIS is why moments that could be seen as romantic could be completely unintentional. you really don't know whether something is canon or not unless you get explicit confirmation by the creators or scenes within the show. although, like i previously stated, there is nothing wrong with assuming or even believing that moments are romantic. my problem is with the people who choose to use moments like that as weapons to attack others' beliefs. quite frankly, i think it’s pretty stupid to do anything of the sort, especially considering that the second they(the aggressor) are proven wrong, they refuse to take accountability over the fact they harassed somebody over a SHIP. but even if they WERE right in the end, that still doesn't excuse this sort of behavior. I don't care what the circumstance is or how obvious it seems that the ship will be canon, you have no right to harass somebody over the probability of a ship being canon or not. there is no need to be hostile.
i really do think that if people like this went outside and spoke to a real person for more than 3 minutes, they would understand that ships being canon or not are not important in the grand scheme of things. maybe i'm wrong, maybe this is something that is normal or at least should be considered normal. but for everyone's sake, could you at least try to be respectful about sharing your opinions? thank you.

i know that im the type of person who almost never ships characters platonically, but for some reason i MUCH prefer ships that are explicitly romantic but also have amazing platonic potential. like i love it when two characters arent super lovey-dovey all the time and treat each other like good friends without being all awkward about it?? its so cute and refreshing to see characters just being,, comfortable with each other without having to make some big romantic declaration yknow? its just great when a romantic ship could also just be an awesome friendship and the only thing that changes is that they dont kiss. i guess that’s why i never liked the whole “i wanna ruin our friendship, we should be lovers instead” cause who said they cant be besties in love like????? i dunno about you but i would want my lover to also be a best friend like that’s what i live for.

haha stoopid brain go brrr
but seriously, go outside and touch some grass please because you really need it.
like you went from not knowing how birthdays work, to comparing a 4 year age gap to a 2 year age gap. and if it couldn’t get any worse, you decided to basically call out the OWL HOUSE FANDOM for being HETERONORMATIVE as if people didn’t go absolutely feral when lumity was confirmed canon(myself included!). I swear to god as I was reading i cringed when you went from bad takes to god awful takes, like it never got better.                                                not once in this entire post did you say something that i even remotely agreed with because literally everything you said made no sense .
im done with this, im done with huntlow antis being garbage for no reason whatsoever. just like leave us shippers alone pls and thank you. i dont know how we manage to put up with this, props to us honestly
Laughing my ass off here. “ActUaLLy wiLLoW tUrnEd 15” so theoretically here hunter must’ve turned 17 or would soon be turning. There’s still a 2 year age gap between the two. Yes I would tell Dana right to her face that it’s ridiculous to ship Willow and Hunter. Even MORE SO if she’s 15 and he’s 17.
Y’all really think “oH wOw BOy LoOK aT giRL? thEy iN LovE” I’m getting secondhand embarrassment seeing how many of you are defending the age gap in the ship.
Yes people get married with like 10 year age gaps but *gasp* GET THIS! THAT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN BOTH PEOPLE ARE WAY OVER THE AGE OF 18, YOU KNOW, ADULTS????? PEOPLE WHO’S BRAINS ARE ALREADY FULLY DEVELOPED???? SUCH A CRAZY CONCEPT I KNOW
if Emira tried dating Gus would you still find it cute? Or would you think logically and find it weird because it’s the exact same age gap? Just because something has become “normalized” doesn’t make it ok
And when I say their brains aren’t developed the same, I’m not talking down about Willow as if she were a baby. I quite literally fucking meant their brains are at different stages of development. they’re teenagers. Teenagers rapidly age and develop so 2 years is a lot of different experiences and situations and development that’s happened.
If Hunter were born a witch and went to school with everyone else, he’d be in Edric and Emira’s class groups and be friends with kids those ages. Notice how Edric and Emira are friends with Luz and only Luz because A) she was the cool human who stumbled upon the boiling isles and B) Amity’s girlfriend. They’re not friends with Willow or Gus or anybody else in their grades. Hunter would have never been friends with Luz, Willow, Gus or Amity in any other situation. Their friend groups would be drastically different and separate because they’d be in different grades.
Once again, I cannot fucking stress this enough, just because something is “normalized” in real life doesn’t make it ok.
Listing off other canon ships from other shows who had ages gaps like this to try and defend it is not the “gotcha” that you think it is. Like, you’re just listing off even more ships that shouldn’t have existed with age gaps. Just because they were canon doesn’t mean it was ok and doesn’t mean it wasn’t weird
So why are this many of you foaming at the mouth trying to defend shipping Willow and Hunter? Because a boy and a girl character befriended each other suddenly they HAVE to be shipped and be together??? No matter how many of you try to defend this will not change the fact that it’s really fucking weird to ship the two.
I saw one person trying to defend this by saying “well I’m 17 and my boyfriend is almost 19 so” ???? So your boyfriend is a GROWN ASS ADULT DATING A MINOR???? THATS YOUR ARGUMENT????
Y’all need to stop for a second and actually THINK before blindly doing shit.

you know, this was the first time i’ve ever cried watching anything ever. i’ve never cried during a show or movie up until now, the only times i’ve ever come close to crying during a show or movie was in the last episode of Gravity Falls . Even then i only shed a single tear.
i think it’s because even though i know the ending of a show is sad(and i do feel sad about it), i’ve never had that strong of a connection to any show really. Not necessarily in the sense that I couldn’t relate to it, or that I couldn’t empathize with the characters, but more so because of the fact that i watch most shows after they’ve already been over for a year or so. i don’t have any fond memories of the show while it was airing on tv. so it doesn’t have a strong sentimental value to me.                                                                                                             i think that’s why i cried when i was watching the hardest thing, because i can say that i was there.
i was there when i saw the fandom theorizing and sharing their thoughts as to what would happen to the characters after each episode came out.
i was there, when matt braly would like or retweet certain tweets, just to see if he liked any fanart of my ship or to see if he would confirm any theories or headcanons.
i was there, tuning in every saturday morning, excited to see what would happen next.
i spent time with this show. as i was watching the characters develop, i was still developing too.
with each new adventure that the characters went on, felt like i was having my own adventures too.
and now it’s over. now i won’t get to see any more new episodes when i tune in every saturday morning. the fans will no longer theorize as much any longer because their theories are already confirmed. matt braly will no longer tweet about amphibia as often as he used to because it came to an end. im never going to forget the memories i made from watching this show, and im never going to stop loving it with each new day that passes by.
i guess all i have to say is, thank you amphibia. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to stay by your side and grow up with you. Thank you for letting me see all of its characters stories come to a bittersweet end.
Thank you for giving me the chance to say,
 “I was there”
because i’ll never forget it

spoilers for reaching out
can i say that it was really interesting how luz and amity’s relationship has been developing throughout the second half of this season? like in follies at the coven day parade had to do with luz having a difficult time communicating with amity about her problems. at the end of the episode they made up, with luz saying that she would be honest with amity from now on. but in reaching out, she did the exact same thing, which obviously upset amity considering they already had a conversation about lying. i can already tell lumity antis are going to use this as a “justification” as to why lumity is an “unhealthy/bad” ship. and im sure people are going to complain about how luz didn’t develop as a character, but yknow what? this episode was actually very realistic in the sense that, people have a hard time changing their old habits(especially when in their mind, they think that because they don’t have the intention of harming somebody, it won’t happen). often they will have the tendency to make the same mistake over and over again, until they have it hard-wired in their brain that their actions are only causing more harm then good. people take time to grow and change, it’s unfair to expect somebody to change their entire behavior instantly the moment they realize that what they’re doing is wrong. i can relate to luz so much in this episode, because growth takes a lot of time and patience for me. of course, that doesn’t mean that what luz did was okay, but for me? i think she’s trying her best and she will get the hang of it eventually. this is a way for luz to learn more, and gain a better understanding of what it means to have an even healthier relationship with amity. which i think is honestly pretty sweet.

am i the only person who just,, doesn’t know how to ship two characters platonically? like i know what it means and i see the appeal but i just physically CANNOT ship two characters platonically like it’s either i ship it or i don’t. idk how people do it man, this is why i am multishipping trash. i am just such a hopeless romantic, i project too much onto fictional characters plsss. like you know the moment i see even just a little bit of chemistry displayed between two characters i will squeal and hope they kiss dont test me.

alright i want to talk about the huntlow discourse going on cause the hate is getting on my nerves and i think its time somebody really dove deep into why people are so goddamn pissed over this.
so the huntlow ship started around early-mid of 2021 if im correct. and i think most people(including me) didn’t really care for the ship nor thought it made sense or was like a good ship if im being honest?(sorry to all of the early huntlow shippers lol). the ship was more of a “it probably wont ever happen but its just neat to think about.” i think the rarepair ships with hunter that were REALLY popular was probably goldric. i personally think that the only reason that ship was more popular was because of the fact that huntlow is a hetero ship(unless.. t4t?) and goldirc is just like,, white and conventionally attractive(also, edric is more loved by our fandom than willow, lets be honest, our plant baby is overlooked.) so even when the huntlow ship was first introduced it wasn’t recieved well by the fandom just cause its hetero and with a character that not many people really like too much. therefore, there was already a bias against it, so when any sport in a storm came out, it pissed people off, and now people are trying to justify hating on a ship for stupid reasons. what reasons? well,
the age gap: so a lot of people are saying that the ship is problematic because of the age gap, i think that is completely ridiculous cause 1, the age gap isnt big? they’re both in high school and its only a 2 year difference, maybe if it was a 16 and 18 year old, i would be a tiny bit concerned?(even then, its so minor that i would still probably defend it lol), but thats not even the case, its literally a 14 and a 16 year old.
people are trying to argue by saying “oh but looking at it from a psychological/emotional aspect, its too large of a gap!” ok? by that logic, it would actually go the other way around. with willow being more mature emotionally than hunter. if you think about it, hunter has been sheltered, abused, and manipulated his whole entire life and doesn’t know what its like to live the life of a normal teen, that must have stunted his emotional growth to some degree. whilst willow was able to live a pretty normal life, with a loving family, the worst thing she’s ever gone through was some bullying and a loss of a best friend. which even though that can be traumatizing, she still had the opportunity to heal and grow as a person. while hunter still has a ways to go. if anything, willow is the one who has the advantage over him. at the end of the day, the entire argument just doesn’t make sense. just let kids be kids please.
trauma and relationships: so another reason why people dislike this ship is because hunter isn’t emotionally stable enough to handle a relationship atm, and what he would really need instead is a friend(where was this convo when people were shipping goldric?? hmm??) now the thing with this argument is that i actually agree, in fact i believe that nobody should get into a relationship they aren’t mentally stable for, especially if they are teens, and to see that be depicted in a tv show would be a wonderful way to show how to actually have a healthy relationship. the only thing is, toh already broke that “rule” with lumity. think about it, amity was emotionally manipulated and controlled by her parents to the point where she suffered severely from it, but the show still decided that amity needed luz to heal instead of having her heal on her own. i personally believe that you shouldn’t need another person to heal, but a LOT of shows do this because the media depicts romance in a glamourized way(this is another convo i would like to have).
so to me? seeing huntlow do the same thing doesn’t bother me, even though yeah, it can be problematic. yknow what the thing is though? this is a cartoon, a fictional tv show, with fictional characters, and even fictional problems. not everything in a show has to have some form of in depth philosophical analysis/ideas on society. while yes, it CAN be nice to see that, its unrealistic to have that sort of expectation on a children’s tv show. i could complain about the glamorization of romance all i want but at the end of the day, it doesnt change the fact that its nice to just want to see lovable characters get into shenanigans and be happy, and there for each other. as long as the two character involved aren’t being toxic or abusive towards each other, do the technicalities of the relationship between them really matter? that’s why when i hear people say “but hunter is traumatized!” i kind of just roll my eyes because they’ve already done the same thing with lumity, but it doesn’t change the fact that the ship is still CUTE and LOVABLE and SWEET. that’s it! the characters have a nice dynamic and if anything, they could just help each other heal from whatever trauma they have. its not that deep! just let people like what they like! huntlow is NOT problematic in any universe!
they are just hetero(t4t headcanon tho...): yeah, thats right, im calling you guys out. you’re just mad that a hetero ship is in your owl show. bro, literally, i swear some of you guys are so toxic. like not even kidding, im embarrassed to be a part of the lgbtqia+ community at this point! it kills me inside whenever i see toxic people acting like hetero ships are the end of the world. the worst part is, these are the exact same people to claim they have an open and respectful mind! No you don’t! People need to stop projecting their anxieties when it comes to their sexuality and gender identity onto fictional characters, and then get mad when said characters don’t meet their expectations on what “good” representation is! people already threw a hissy fit over lunter,  i don’t want the same thing to happen with huntlow!
at the end of the day, just learn to be respectful. please, some of you guys need a break from social media, you guys need to get outside and interact with people. its not fair that innocent people have to deal with your bullcrap for no reason. this is a kids show, nothing in that show is real, none of the characters are real. huntlow is just an innocent, cute little ship. why y’all gotta make it seem like it’s the end of the world. sorry for the long post, i just had to get this out because it’s literally KILLING ME INSIDE. anyways, ima go read some huntlow fanfiction. peace!
(btw, it’s totally cool if you don’t ship huntlow, or you just see them as platonic! everybody has a right to their opinion, im just calling out the problematic people who don’t seem to get that through their thick skulls. i didn’t really ship huntlow at first watch of the episode either, so i get where people are coming from when they say that they just don’t think it’s that enjoyable. if you see hunter as gay or aro/ace, or you ship willow with boscha, that’s neat! you do you! just don’t get pissed off if dana likes huntlow posts, or the storyboard artists of toh make huntlow fanart. or heck, just seeing people like the ship in general.)
