Astarion… with an artist Tav…

And they offer to make a portrait of him

And they don’t show him the process at all so he’s impatiently waiting for Tav to finish to show him the damn thing.

To Astarion, he feels like it takes foreverrrr

But Tav just wants to perfect it as much as possible and being really meticulous.

Finally, one day, Tav finishes the portrait and shows it to Astarion. It captured his very being right onto a canvas, and it felt foreign to him to gaze upon himself. He was beyond shocked, unable to make any quick remark or smart comment. His eyes were wide, darting around the painting, memorizing each detail.

Tav nervously observed him, hoping and praying that his stunned expression was because it was good and not because it was so bad he couldn’t say a word about it.

“Is it that bad?” Tav asked.

“…This is me? This is… what I look like?” Astarion asked back. His hand subconsciously moved up to his own face to gently feel around his cheek and brush back his curls. Sentimental red eyes locked onto Tav, silently urging some sort of confirmation to his question.

“Well… yes! I tried capturing you as best as I could, I hope you like it—“

Tav, being cut off by a tight hug, stumbled backwards in surprise.

“Of course I like it, you fool!” Astarion says through gritted teeth, trying (and failing) to hide how deeply the simple little thing has affected him. His arms tightened around Tav and his face further buried into their shoulder.

Seeing himself after so long makes him feel like he’s really there, like he’s actually a person that people can see.

And he’ll never let go of that portrait. He’ll run his fingers over the flat surface, feeling the subtle dry ridges of the paint. Studying the bold red in his eyes and the white streaks in his hair.

Did it feed his ego? Yeah absolutely.
