My delusional ass is convinced Orin is the Jinx to my Durge's Vi. In my mind they were siblings bound by blood and loss. Nova held Orin close since the day they were brought into the cult, because she was something they could love and care for in their existence as a thing of death and destruction. When they doubted their purpose and their father they never left because they couldn't leave Orin behind, but couldn't risk her life by roping her into an attempt at escape. They trusted her based on nothing but the fact that she was their sister, and for years she honored that trust, while distance grew bitween them slowly until Nova couldn't see the bitterness and resentment that that glinted in her eye, that dropped from her voice, that ate her alive as the echoes of affection held back her itching knife hand. They grew too far away to see her, yet they were too close to let her free of their shadow. So she struck, and she sent them away, and she took their throne, and her sibling only grasped for any understanding of the mistakes that brought them there, bleeding out on the ground.

Anyway basically all my problems in life would be over if I could spare/save and recruit Orin. Fuck Bhaal I wanna get her outta there man...

deeply compelled by the concept of an rpg videogame like dragon age or baldur’s gate having the option to play as a child/preteen/teen character character. exploring and learning all about your party and how they react to a child in a role of authority, building intense and even weirdly codependent relationships with adults bc they have to rely on you for survival whether they like it or not & all the complex feelings about that, necessitating roleplay-based storytelling for the party’s character arcs which completely excludes sex or romance, the unique background options a child might have and the ways in which skill-building could differ from adult characters.

I know for a fact that when Durge decides to keep Orin Astarion is like those 'dad who didn't want to get the dog and the dog' memes. Like he talks about what a horrible idea that is for at least an hour but two days later he's holding a thumbs up proudly in the background as Orin commits attrocities

My favourite bit of BG3 lore is that Withers is legitimately responsible for the Dead Three, but he's probably too embarrassed to tell you, so every time you ask him to elaborate he just gives you a very stern, "Noooo."

I also love that the reason he's responsible for their uprising is because he got bored. He literally got bored of his position as Lord of the Dead and wanted to retire, so when these three morally questionable humans came looking for godhood he was like, "Hmmm. Yes, okay. Here. Take my portfolios. Fight over them. I don't care. I quit."

So after bowling with skulls in a friendly competition to decide who would get what portfolio, they took up his powers and wreaked havoc on the world. Only at that moment did Jergal, AKA Withers, AKA our precious Bone Daddy think, "I'm just now, internally, asking myself, in quite a worried way, whether I might've made an error."

So he joins your merry band and watches your escapades, calmly twiddling his fingers while you clean up his mess. He's happy to lend his aid, even to the point that he'll bring Durge back to life if they reject Bhaal, even though he technically shouldn't. But he's Withers. The rules don't apply to him. If Ao doesn't like it, he can descend from the Heavens and say it to his rotting face.

And the reason he saves Durge isn't necessarily because he likes them or because he's a morally good entity (though one certainly could make that argument), but because he wants to add insult to injury. He steals Bhaal's child with a big smile on his face, dubs them his Chosen, and praises them for rejecting all the power they were promised. But of course, he still doesn't tell them who he is—or rather who he was.

Then, when all is said and done, he throws Tav and their companions a cute little party. No one knows it's probably half a thank you party and half a "Withers is bored again" party. And if anyone misbehaves, he'll get irritated and whisk them away. Because how dare they? He put a lot of work into that.

And at the end of it all, he walks up to a mural of the Dead Three and basically goes, "Lmao. Thou didst fuck around, and thou didst find out." Just savagely roasting them.

And then poof!

He waves them into non-existence.

Went down the baby Durge and Orin as siblings thought spiral and now I'm extremely upset that I can't forgive and make good with her. Like yes this is all in my head. I made the entirity of what I got attached to about them up. But she's my sister now. Come with me Orin you don't have to murder for our dickhead god you can murder for yourself please please please
