Chance it in Donnie's lab. That's where all the supplies are!!
Tumblr media
(Optional Soundtrack/Ambience)
April took a deep breath, inhaling through her nose, then exhaling out her mouth. She couldn’t just stand here forever; she needed to pick something!! Every option felt like a bad option, so she might as well indulge in herself, and pick what she was most curious about.  Hopefully, curiosity wouldn’t kill the cat this time.
Despite how bad of an idea this seemed to be, her curiosity was getting the better of her, and she decided upon going to Donnie’s lab. Reasoning with herself, it did make sense. At least she knew what was in the lab, right? Though it might not be the same anymore... She wondered what had happened to Donnie. Was he even still alive? Was he a monster, just waiting to kill her again? Had he even survived his own gruesome change?
That wasn't even covering what was going on in his lab. Like, what was that tarp, and the body? And all the exact copies of all her things? If she couldn't get answers, at least she could get herself a gun, or a new phone... She’d certainly feel better with a gun, that was for sure.
Slowly, April glanced back and forth, looking about to see if she could immediately glance anyone or anything that might jump out at her. It was still quite dark, making her little surveillance check fairly useless. But nothing jumped out at her, so she must be in the clear. Hopefully…
So far, so good...
Carefully, April began to creep out, feeling completely and one hundred percent exposed. All she wanted to do was book it. Bolt and run, take off and go. As tempting as that was, even in her fear, April knew what a bad idea that would be.
But not running felt just as stressful as the idea of running was. What if she made a noise? What if she got caught? What if she was too slow? What if she tripped? What if she—
Nope nope nope!! No more thinking!! Only walking!!!
One step at a time, she made her way across the open expanse of the lair, ignoring how loudly her heart was beating in her chest. She could do this, she could do this, she could do this.
April almost jumped out of her skin when a strange sound echoed through the lair. A heavy sound, like something being dropped, and a garbled outcry. She wasn’t able to make out where the noise came from, as silenced swooped in quickly to hush the sound. Now it was really quiet. Too quiet. The hushed whimpering from the subway cars had stopped, making the lair almost dead silent. April gripped onto the hem of her jacket, just to keep herself from running right then and there.
Finally, she made it to the entrance of the lab. The door was closed this time, making it so the only light escaping the lab, was the lights seeping out from beneath the door cracks, and leaking out of the windows positioned at the top of the door. Hopefully she could just pull the door open. She'd have to be quick, as she didn't know how loud it might be.
Wrapping her hands in her sleeves, as a way to protect the many scratches, April grabbed ahold of the door handles, steeling herself for the potentially loud creaking sound it would make. Her heart was in her throat at this point, and her ears were whooshing from the amount of adrenalin rushing through her veins. Her fingertips felt tingly, and her body light.
Leaning back, she gave the door a good ol’ tug and it didn't budge. She frowned as she pulled harder, feeling herself get frustrated when the door refused to give even an inch.
Then she remembered something. Something really important. Something she should have immediately known the moment she had begun pulling on the door.
April gently pushed open the door she had been pulling on, feeling like an idiot. April supposed things could be worse, and at least she wasn’t dead, but then she realized that the bar was set really low… Eugh, this was going to kill her, both figuratively, and literally.
Purple lighting spilled out, cutting into the darkness, and splitting it apart. From where she was standing, she couldn't see into the lab very well, and April hoped with all her heart that Donnie wasn’t just hiding behind the door, waiting for her to just go inside. A sitting duck or something like that.
Well, if she didn’t want to be a sitting duck, she’d need a weapon. She didn’t have a rock, nor anything else. Her fists would NOT work against that monstrosity. Well, that was convenient. Hopefully Donnie wasn't feeling too murdery.
She shrugged off her backpack, holding a single strap with both hands, planning on using it if things went south. Meaning she'd whack Donnie in the face with it, like a psycho old lady, if push came to shove.
April shouldered her way in, not wanting the door too wide open, as she felt it might attract other unsavory things. Who knows, maybe they were enamored by light? Most likely not.
The moment she was inside, using what little lighting there was, April began to scan the lab.
It definitely looked different than before.
Much more was wrecked, and there was crusted blood splattered across the ground. The blood was flaking and hardening, sticking between the metal panels. Though surprisingly, the horrid stench from before had lessened, making it somewhat tolerable to be in here now.
Quite a few of the light strips were ruined, making more of the lab dark this time, which in turn, also made it harder to see. Lucky her.
April shuffled to the side, leaning to see if she could catch a glimpse of Donnie's computer station. It was quite dark over there. All the computers were off, except the singular one from last time. But even that one wasn't working right. The screen kept glitching, altering between static, and the "no internet" google dinosaur screen. The dino whenever it popped up, would jump erratically, and then seemingly freeze until the screen glitched again. An endless cycle... Poor dino…
But... where was Donnie? Was he just hiding in a corner? Had he left? She didn’t see him at his computers. April frowned when she noticed that his chair was tipped backwards, as if someone had fallen out, or jumped, or something. The chair itself was nasty, covered in food stains, and old crusty rainbow stuff. Whatever that stuff was…
April made her way closer, hardly breathing, hoping Donnie wasn’t just hiding under the desk, and waiting to grab her by the ankles. She noticed as she got closer that the piles of bowls that had been strewn across the ground had been cleaned up and taken away. Even the spilled soup had been taken care of, making this the cleanest part of the lab.
"Donnie?" She called out hesitantly, hoping to see or hear him. "You still in here?"
Her only response was the noisy static of the computer, and the blipping sounds of the google dino tweaking out on screen.
But still no Donnie.
April kept venturing deeper, afraid of each and every shadow, terrified of a long neck, and stretched face, just waiting to spring up on her.
"Donnie?" She squeaked out, creeping forwards. It was darker right here, minimal light making its way to the back of the lab. She'd need a new phone, or at least, a charger, right? She could keep looking for Donnie once she found those!!
April scooted her way to the back of the lab, careful to avoid tripping over the numerous piles of wrecked inventions. The piles of stuff were still there, and so was the tarp. Except for, it looked... flatter? No time to worry about that, she needed a new phone!!
April quickly stooped down, and scooped up one of the phones, pressing her thumb into the side button to turn it on.
Her face was illuminated by the smiles of her parents on her lock screen, and April was so relieved, she almost felt like crying. Thank goodness!! Ok, this phone had about 29%, which wasn't too bad. She could make do with that. Especially if she had a charger of some sorts.
Turning on her phone flashlight, April was greeted by the messy pile of her things. Most of them were smashed, making them entirely useless, leaving only a select few things for the pickings. Along with that, was the tarp, flat against the ground, no body in sight. The tarp itself was covered in blood, partially dried, partially coagulated, all nasty.
She cringed, and then hissed. "Damnit!!" because whatever, or whoever had been under that tarp, was no longer there. She knew she should have just looked under that tarp, rather than over her shoulder last time she had been here! Oh well, at least she had a phone now.
Using her phone flashlight, April began doing a quick rifle through the pile and found one flashlight that just barely worked, flickering until she whacked it against the ground, another first aid kit, and a gun with a single shot. Everything else was smashed. Along with that, was a perfectly good external charger, but the cords were all gone. So, it was basically useless as well.
April sighed and whacked the crap flashlight again until she got it working, then swept the beam of light across the lab.
Broken junk, blood, something that looked suspiciously like a long greenish noodle (April refused to acknowledge what it might be, having seen enough gory horrors) and smeared trails of rainbow 'somethings'. But no Donnie.
Ok...
So, that could be a good thing... Or a bad thing... At least the lab was free... But what could she do in here now?

Note
do uu have any head cannons for the deja vu boys 👀👀👀👀 so I can draw e draw
ABSOLUTELY!!! I'll list what I'm able to without spoiling anything major ^^
TW for disturbing subjects, mentions of suicide, and body horror
Raph is a hoarder. He collects ANYTHING that reminds him of happy times.
Donnie has an obsession with cutesy cartoons, like Bluey, and Bee and Puppycat, and cartoon's in general. Despite looking like an anime nerd, Donnie is much more of a cartoon guy. A few of his favorites are, Owl House, Steven Universe, Amphibia, Adventure Time, Fionna & Cake, and Gravity Falls. He's also a big fan of indie animations.
Mikey actually feels scared when alone, as he doesn't like how quiet it gets. So he sings a lot. Not really any particular songs, mostly just randomized tunes. He likes to sing about what he's doing in the current moment.
The number of eyes on Mikey's body, corelates to how sane he is. More eyes, less sanity. Less eyes, more sanity.
Tw for body horror. Mikey has a really bad skin picking habit, and as the eyes developed across his body, he would pick at them, pluck them out, and pop them like grapes, as his body doesn't feel pain like it used to. When his sanity is completely devolved, he's got a bad habit of eating the eyes.
The boys health is dependent on their surroundings, who they interact with, and if things are working or not. They are codependent with items. Their sanity is linked to various important things.
Raph has more than one set of teeth. (Have fun with this one!!)
Leo has a lot more control than he lets on.
Mikey does the cooking for the family, though he isn't always nice about it, and will force feed anyone who refuses his meals.
All the boys bodies change depending on how sane they are, or how far gone they've become.
Raph will eat his brothers if he can catch them. Mikey tries to keep that from happening by keeping him fed. It doesn't always work.
Leo is either hyperactive, or completely dissociated. TW He's also has no interest in surviving, and almost always commits su*cide by the end.
Mikey cannot physically extinguish the light coming from his markings. He's a walking glowstick.
There is actually a reason for Donnie's rainbow vomit. Aside from being colorful, it is once again story important. (And I also just like drawing it lol sue me XD)
The lair is always dark :)
The changes in the boys appearances are not for stylistic reasons, and actually have story significance.
That's all the headcanons I got for you right now, have fun with these as you will!! Looking forwards to any art you draw!!

Start Again...
Tumblr media
(Optional soundtrack/ambience)
April bolted upright with a gasp, clutching her chest, heart pounding wildly.
Oh gosh, oh gosh, oh heck, what had just happened, WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED?!
She hyperventilated, scooting backwards as the darkness pressed in on her, mocking her, taunting her, letting her know she couldn't see. That she was emotionally alone in here.
Where was she, what had happened? Had Donnie just- Had she- Was she... Dead? Did she die? DID DONNIE JUST KILL HER?!
April's panicked breath’s caught in her throat, shifting into ugly choked sobs that tore and burned. Her voice echoed around her, bouncing around in the tunnels, as if to remind her how loud she was being.
There was no way that had been real, THERE WAS NO WAY!! There was absolutely NO WAY!!
April wrapped her arms around herself in a self-soothing hug, whimpering as fear coursed through her whole body, tears spilling down her cheeks as she shivered with involuntary shudders of terror. She rocked back and forth, unable to comprehend what had just happened, desperately wanting too just. Wake. Up!
Donnie was- He was all screwed up looking, and there was that tarp, and- and the duplicates of her stuff, and--
April squeezed her eyes shut, slowly tipping herself forwards to press her forehead against the grimy surface of the filthy sewers. There was no way that hadn't been real, there was absolutely no way in heck! It felt as real as right now did!! April continued to cry, too shocked to do anything else but that.
Her body ached, and her heart ached, and she was terrified out of her wits.
Within just a few moments of feeling like her world was ending, she quickly realized that she was all out in the open with no cover nor protection of any sort. She was entirely exposed. April got the distinct image of a long neck connected to a sharp toothed face, stretching through the halls, just to come and find her, and immediately she got goose bumps, feeling even more exposed.
Hysterically, she let out a whimper, and uncurled from her pained position, fumbling to produce her phone from her jacket pocket. Her fingers were shaking so badly, she ended up dropping it with a resounding clatter. Her heart shot up into her throat, rapid heartbeat giving her grief, and potentially the chance of a heart attack.
In a rush, she snatched it back up, and was seconds away from the sweet salvation of her flashlight. Pressing the button upon the side of her phone, April was met with a dark display and a small, depleted battery icon, with only a sliver of red on the bottom. Meaning, her phone was entirely dead.
This was a nightmare.
April tossed it down, a scream building in her throat, though she fought to keep silent, not wanting to be found by any more of the horrors lurking around down here. Why was everything going so badly?! She had really thought she was doing everything right!
Just great, how wonderfully great!! April let out another sob, huge tears running down her cheeks, as snot clogged her nose, making it hard to breathe. Who was she kidding, everything was horrible! Even sarcasm couldn’t help!
April began to look around, turning her head this way and that, in a desperate attempt to figure out where she was. Maybe she could identify her location by picking out her surroundings? From what she could guess, she was in the tunnel she had first woken up in. The one by the entrance-and-now-exit of the place.
April pushed her glasses up and rubbed her face with the inner corner of her jacket, as it was still moderately clean (though not anymore) and shoved herself up, stumbling around hesitantly till her outstretched hand hit a wall. It was covered in the same deep angry furrows she had seen the first time here. This must be the wall below the exit. Or at least, near it.
Carefully, April felt along the wall, running her hand along the rough bricks and slashes until she made it to the back, just a few steps away from where she had started. Now the exit was right above her; she just couldn't get out!!
April paused to take a few deep breaths to calm herself down. A rational head always solved problems faster. Maybe she could climb the wall if she crammed her feet and hands into the scratches? That seemed like the best place to start at least…
Carefully, April gripped the deep furrows, reaching up, and cramming her foot into one of the little cracks, attempting to pull herself up.
It was an immediate failure. Her hand slipped out, scraping her skin deeply, and she fell, smacking her face against the wall in the process, landing at the bottom, knees protesting from the shock of dropping. "DAMN IT!!" she shouted, voice echoing through the tunnels.
With a frustrated outcry, she slammed her fist against the wall, feeling as the skin on her hand scraped up, little bits of brick gravel sticking in the wounds. Just dandy!! Why was everything going wrong today?? Or was it even today anymore?! Her phone was dead, she couldn't get out, it was dark and her whole body ached!! Great!! Just great!!
Her only way out was impossible to climb and unless she found something to stab at the walls with, she was screwed!
Oh, who was she kidding, she was screwed either way…
April whined, more tears leaking out of her eyes, and she shifted, rotating to lean her back against the wall, head pressing up against the painful rock. Her hands hurt, and her face was scuffed up, possibly even bleeding. She couldn't entirely take care of herself like this in the dark, as it was too hard to see. But she couldn’t just ignore her wounds!! She needed to apply first aid to herself, or she'd get infections from the sewer scrapes.
With another pathetic sniff, she blinked hard, forcing away her tears, clearing up her vision (not that it really mattered though) and pushed off the wall into a standing position.
This was rock bottom, wasn’t it? At least there was nowhere to go but up, right? She had a few options she could choose from.
She could stay here, and cry like a pathetic sissy, or she could get to walking, and figure something out. The whole lair was just through this tunnel, there was no way she wouldn't find something helpful!! The lair had been like her second home!!
Taking a few more deep breaths, April mentally shoved her crisis to the back of her mind to deal with later and shook herself into alertness. Backpack, check! Stupid dead phone, check! Will to keep going? Eh, that one was a work in progress.
April found her way to the wall again, hand sliding along the jagged stones. She could follow this to get out of the tunnel, after all, it was just a straight shot.
Slowly, and extremely carefully, April began to make her way through the tunnel. Her hand caught upon the roughed-up wall multiple times, so eventually she pulled her sleeve up and over her hand to avoid getting any more cuts.
Step by step, April made her way through the tunnel, taking extra precautions to not trip over all the rubble littering the tunnels.
It was just like she remembered.
Much to her relief, April didn't encounter anymore strange demonic versions of her brothers. Though the closer to the tunnel exit she got, the louder something became.
Screaming.
Gut wrenching, pained wailing, agony filled screams. Someone was screaming words, no—names, like their life depended on it.
The closer April got, the deeper her frown became, goosebumps traveling up and down her arms, body shivering as everything prickled to high alert. Who was screaming? She couldn’t quite make out who’s voice it was, nor could she make out the names, as they were to raw and visceral to understand this far back in the tunnels. Eventually, April made it to the tunnel exit, halting by the wall, leaning around the corner to peer into the lair.
It looked very similar to how it looked before, during the last time she came through here. When she had gone up and checked out the lab and had seen... Yeah no, she wasn't thinking about that.
The lair was faintly lit by various light sources, all in varying colors. Down towards the kitchen, was a gentle golden glow, and up top was the dim purples of Donnie's lab.
Further in, the screaming was coming from the subway cars, though it was slowly dying down, becoming hushed. Like a child crying themselves to sleep, voice ragged and faint. Ok… yeah that was creepy…
April hesitated, staying put in the entryway, unsure of where to go.
Donnie’s lab was where all the phones, chargers, and guns were at. But Donnie was in there, and April had ZERO desire to repeat what had happened earlier (assuming that had actually happened).
The golden light coming from the kitchen was most likely Mikey, and April might be able to get something to eat there. After all, there had been bowls of soup in Donnie's lab... Which meant that Mikey had been interacting with Donnie. Which meant, he was either fearfully throwing the food in, terrified of facing his brother, OR he was stronger than Donnie. April shuddered at what that could mean, fearful of this potentially crazy strong Mikey. Maybe not a good idea either.
Checking on the screaming seemed like a horrible idea. There was no way someone was just casually screaming names bloody-murder style down in here.
Maybe she could try and run to the bathroom? If it had running water, she could wash herself up and clean her wounds. Maybe even get a drink?... But that also seemed dangerous, because she'd have to run across the lair, and she technically didn't know where either Leo or Raph were at. If they were even alive at all.
Maybe they were just as trapped here, just like her? Maybe they had escaped, and it was just her, Donnie and Mikey? Maybe they were dead...
April resisted the urge to bite her nails, clenching her jaw as she weighed the pros and cons of each choice.
