Aging or Growing?
I feel almost the same as I did in my twenties. I’m still a hungry (eager), tired, anxious (ready) and excited guy looking for a good time. Just the days are longer now. Its like working out but instead of lifting just my body weight it feels like I’m lifting the entire gym.

I liked this so I edited it... shout out to the original post.
A Kingdom To Rule
Two tall doors draw open as dramatic as curtains, an armored guard pulling on each lever. A gowned beauty flaunts a queen‘s nobility coasting across marble. She’s young, not quite ready for a crown but holds herself high as clouds.
Princess: Father! I sent for soldiers. Did you not recieve the call from my rider?
King: Soldiers, dear child? These men are not soldiers.
Sunken into the plush cushion of his throne, the king is surrounded by king’s men, all entertaining young women. Beautiful girls comb through their hair, brush across their matches with a soft touch, and giggle at every joke whispered into their ear. The king curbs a goblet, bloody wine splashes around sloppily.
Princess: My king. Then what exactly do you call knights who don’t protect their kingdom?
The room quiets. Many knights cut at her with razor glances. She slashes back with a sly of her own.
Knight: Busy.
The room uproars, heavy chuckles echo around the Princess.
Princess: This is not funny. Have you not heard? The farmers have been raided. The merchants have been robbed and our lands have been stormed upon.
King: What business is this of yours?
Princess: If you stand to do nothing, maybe I should be king and you the princess. Then I’d be making it my business.
The knight pushes off an undressed girl to stand his ground.
Knight: Know your place girl. There is sensibility behind your position because your only sword is your mouth. Shut it when you stand to address your king.
Princess: King? How kingly is whoring and feasting while your people starve? My maidens hand feed the commoners every Sunday after prayer. While you and your jesters teach your pathetic son the ways of a ruler?
Knight: Yes, ruler. As you spend the rest of your life on your knees, Princess.
King: Hey, watch it. She’s your sister.
Knight: My king.
King: Elizabeth, mind your manners. He’s your brother and my heir. Show respect.
Princess: I have sat in with the nobles and clergy and adjusted the taxes to slow all the inflation caused by your reckless spending.
King: My. If your mother was only here...
Princess: She’d be proud that her daughter stood up to a king in the people’s stead.
Knight: Shut it, Elizabeth!
Princess: The people you let down because the only wars you seem fit for are beyond the palace walls! Anything closer and you fall apart like a little boy!
King: Enough! Both of you! One more word, Elizabeth and I’ll ship you across whatever ocean is closest and make you marry a fisher’s net and boat ore... A man is not weak to mourn. Only a weak man doesn’t have the heart to mourn the love of his life.
Both siblings hold their breath from the confession. The next breaths come slow with a heavy pull.
King: War only leads to thrones earthed under ruin. There is no glamour nor honor in being buried. Don’t thirst for blood so much you’d bite family to draw it.
Elizabeth bows, half heartedly.
Princess: My king.
Elizabeth straightens up, turns toward the doors transmuting her exit into a storm of dissatisfaction.

"Father... if you will not call the soldiers to protect the people, I am going to take the throne."
"What, a leader of war who is a woman? My dear, you are unfit for such a position."
"No, Father. Look at yourself-you are old and weak. While you have neglected the country's people and their needs, I have been training in swordfighting, war tactics, and diplomacy. The necromancer has been my secret mentor. The truth is, Father, that you are the one unfit for the throne."
"I forbid you to lead this country, and I forbid you to address me as 'Father'! How dare you commit such blasphemy? You are no longer my child."
"And this is no longer your kingdom. I am not asking you to step down from the throne-this is no request.
This is my queendom now, and I will lead it beyond war and to greatness."

Character:
Duncan the Wise
Duncan is the King of Scotland. He is characterized as a fair and wise king who is generous with his king’s men and just with his people.
King Duncan: fair skin, wise eyes, a generous smile with a ferocious bite.
“A king who loved his people.”
Scotland was a kingdom blessed to him by the heavens; Duncan was appointed not picked, not elected.
Well assumed for the task of rule Duncan was a handsome fit. To go against such a king was a sin only the sacrilegious would commit.
His main fault... he not only loved his king’s men, he also trusted them with his life.

Don’t dance with that guy: he’s the devil.
He’s a bit of unpleasant tang,
A bitter grapefruit,
With a grimacing after taste,
Too un-ripened to chew.
He’s the bustle on a Sunday,
A brothel in Jerusalem,
A fool in academia,
A slur in a cathedral.
He’s a knife into your spine,
Glass in your bottle,
The last drop of wine,
Your tears spilling milk.

Nurture Your Apathy
Se7en’s deadly sin
Se7en is a film that personifies the “dangerous“ religious fanatic. It characterizes this persona as a literal killer to societal ethics and conformity, both of which society relies on for safety. Although the film antagonizes this character, it also humanizes with him: by searching for reason behind his actions, sympathizing (as done by Somerset) by going as far as to call him “regular people” rather than “crazy”. The film debates the philosophy behind defining evil, with its character’s dialogue and actions.
Tumblr media
Jon Doe, in modern films and television-similar to Dexter, Batman, the Punisher and other violent vigilantes who kill and fight off criminality-would be defined as an anti-hero instead of a villain, nowadays. However due to the fact Se7en’s “criminals” violate hallowed ethics rather than societal we are directed to place Doe in their place, making him the villain. Doe, himself, actually accepts this by condemning himself as both a sinner and a criminal for murder (societal) and envy (sin) by turning himself in to the detectives looking for him.
Criminal
While Jon Doe is the face of criminality, in Se7en, the real criminal seems to be ambition. Somerset is appalled by it, rolls his eyes to it when he notices it in Mills, fears it in Jon Doe’s accomplishments, and tries to turn his back to it in himself. Ambition is what drove Jon Doe to take action. Ambition led Mills to become a detective, to want to be a hero, to chase Doe, to apprehend him, leading into the ultimate clash that took from him more than he bargained for.
While the film Se7en asks you to humanizes with its characters, the people, it NEVER asks you to sympathize with ambition. It never makes a case for it. All who are consumed by it are ended by it. The film seems to hold ambition over the other deadly sins, punishing even the protagonists for indulging in it. It stands alone as the common unethical act that the film is unforgiving toward, in which sympathy is never offered.
Christianity has warned us from false idols in which can basically be represented as simplistically as nouns; money, stars, false gods, pleasure, ourselves, etc. Se7en‘s philosophy seems to identify with this, making the point to insinuate idolizing as the catalyst driving its characters to its ultimate message: ambition is the ultimate killer; the serial killer of killers.

Nurture Your Apathy
Tumblr media
Heroes {Mills vs Somerset}
Se7en is a film based around philosophy, religion, and personal view point. This is portrayed in the movie mostly through the crimes of a serial killer who’s murders are rooted in religious righteousness; a vigilante extremist looking to realize “God’s wrath” upon an ever sinning world. These acts tend to separate characters David Mills (Brad Pitt) and William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) as their ideology’s tend to differ. We learn a lot of what they believe through conversations. One of my favorites in the film is the bar scene where they discuss the nature of a serial killer and American culture as a whole.
Apathy
“I just can’t continue to live in a place that nurtures apathy as if it were virtue” - Somerset...
“You say the problem with people is that they don’t care, so I don’t care about people.. that makes no sense.” - Mills...
The argument between the two wrestles in their perception of modern America. In Somerset’s mind the world is slowly slipping into ruin as apathy uproots out of its hopelessness. He notices people indulging in distraction to fend off a world of bad news (sound familiar).
David Mills counters, playing the chevalier. He defends the world by rushing in blindly to save it from bad guys. An ideology that sends him stampeding past vital clues. However, Mills makes an observation in which he draws Somerset’s attention to: Somerset’s contradictions in his philosophy.
Somerset makes the case that he despises apathy in people but in the same conversation admits to sympathize with it (and even indulge in it himself). It is actually what is driving his character towards his main goal, retirement. Which begs the question, if the film is not siding with Somerset by telling us that apathy is the root of evil than what is Se7en’s root of all evil?

Boundaries
He had the kind of potential that would make you believe that he could actually fly. Which he could but, as it stands, he never did. He was always grounded by an addiction to make his memories home; gravity pulling his dreams apart.

What is art?
Art is: a fall of rain; sadness showering you with beauty to caress the pain you may feel.
What’s is academia?
Academia is: the vigor of nowhere; grounds to find answers, find the self and the who, what, where, when and why to our curiosity.

Comatose
It’s ethereal,
Her touch of madness:
A laudable plateau-
Where terrain rolls, both,
Soft from rain fall
And coarse from snow-
Her kiss is a punch
Between the brow, a pain
Loving me into a coma.

Beliefs...
From religion to pizza toppings people judge others on their beliefs. It’s the root of their actions, thoughts, sometimes even identity and relationships. I’ve been questioned into to revealing mine for a long time and I’ve always had a broken answer. Nothing, for me, was concrete because I’ve always believed beliefs are fickle.
From the emergence of flat-earthers to the constant presence of conspiracy theorists beliefs are clay meant to be molded by experience, conversation, evidence, debate and interactions.
I was raised Christian, taught myself philosophy and studied the early stages of psychology to only end up becoming a devoted Catholic; full circle. My beliefs have been nothing short of hills rolling deep and vast as Tuscan farms.
These beliefs have always held a sturdy backbone that has never really bent out of shape. However, everything else is nothing more than shards of glass, reflecting an eclectic collection of investigation super glued together to make up my universal belief: FUCK IT...
That’s right. Fuck the idea of the balding, white bearded, “all knowing” atheist who substitutes faith for a more “rational” devotion to pseudoscience and science fiction. Fuck the illogical thinker who demands scientific proof from a FAITH BASED RELIGION: a literal IDEOlogical contradiction of the silly request.
{Yes, I’m bashing intellectuals who BELIEVE in antagonizing religion in the name of science, a subject that exist outside the realm of theology. I’m doing so because it is a senseless prejudice, rooted in (what I believe) is a deeper rooted psychological inferiority complex and an attempt to brainwash others as a MEANS of gaslighting.}
My point is archeology is the closest thing we have to history besides word of mouth; all information is a guess depending on how it is interpreted. We could be getting history completely wrong or right; we don’t know. That being said, beliefs with any validity run parallel with Socrates idea on “knowing” once claiming, “I don’t... so, fuck it.” - Socrates.
Truth is an illusion, deluded by perception. Beliefs are rooted in our perceptions, meaning their subjective. My beliefs are not based on evidence because NOTHING can provide me any that give me a definitive truth. All I have is a choice; I choose for myself what I believe to be true based on my talent to discern between what FEELS like something worthy of my devotion.
Science is NOT fact, MATH IS FACT. Science can change with the scientist and discover, math cannot, no matter who adds it up. Proof is in the argument between Neils Bohr and Einstein on the theory that matter waves. The experiment panned into a single argument about the nature of our world on a quantum level; is it senseless and irrational or does it follow a set rule of principles? The two never settled on an answer. Meaning, according to Bohr’s beliefs, BELIEVING in the nature of scientific theory can be judged as being just as unexplainable as asking me to explain the nature of God and Jesus Christ; to whom I choose to devote my beliefs to.
