Highlights from the conference room where they nominated contenders for Word of the Year 2023:
• They put Skibidi Toilet on the projector to explain what “skibidi” means.
• Baby Gronk was mentioned.
• We discussed the Rizzler.
• “Cunty” was nominated.
• “Enshittification” was suggested for EVERY category.
• “Blue Check” (like from Twitter) was briefly defined as “Someone who will not Shut The Fuck Up”
• The person writing notes briefly defined babygirl as “referencing [The Speaker]”. He is now being called babygirl in the linguist groupchats.
• MULTIPLE people raised their hand to say “I cannot stress this enough: ‘Babygirl’ refers to a GROWN MAN”

I hope your anger keeps you warm.
I hope it protects you the way you need it to.
I pray that as your fingers cling onto angers cliff edge that it hauls you back onto solid ground instead of crumbling beneath you.
I hope the eggs do not crack in your one, singular, angry basket.
I beg that the indifference, the aloofness, and the ire you have chosen shield you from wind and storm and rain and snow and ice.
I hope you do not come to regret this.

my second most favorite adaptation of pride and prejudice is the Lizzie Bennet Diaries because it captures Lizzie’s selfishness so beautifully by having the story told not only from her point of view but by Lizzie, herself. The older I get the more and more I realize how selfish Lizzie actually is and how the latter half of the story is Lizzie learning how to stop being selfish. Everyone loves the moment Lizzie tells off Darcy and how he changes but I never see praise about just how much Lizzie changes after this encounter. Mr. Darcy and Mr. Wickham’s affairs were none of Lizzie’s business but she not only involved herself in them, but shamed Darcy for his role in it. I consider the letter to be the turning point of the story because Lizzie is forced to look her prejudice towards Darcy in the eyes, along with her prejudice for everything else. Pride and prejudice, though written as a satirical piece, remains one of the greatest love stories of western literature. It’s not just about a man changing for a woman, it’s about two people learning to grow in their care for others. It’s not until the two stop worrying about themselves that they are able to come to the conclusion that they truly do love each other. The difference in Darcy’s proposals and Lizzie’s humility before Darcy for the things that he did, not for her gain, but for the care of her family. Though it was all indeed because of and for Lizzie, the actions Darcy took were for the benefit of her sisters and parents before they were for Lizzie.

what makes a friend a friend?
A lover a lover?
I have never been good at the boundary between love and friendship,
Some would say the difference is intimacy , but I have walked that line time and again to no avail.
To love a friend is to want venerate their hands, to love a lover is to be allowed to do so.
I feel the weight of emptiness especially now without you,
Cannot tell what I miss more, your friendship, your love, or loving you,
The absence of you is heavier than the warmth of your palm, I think I will feel it forever.

i think its really interesting that the fandom seems to see the kraken side/blackbeard side of ed as a she/her girlboss slay queen kinda moment
Like to a point where we've all decoded that whenever we see edits of Ed being Like That the comments are so full of it! like "i need her" "she's me" "she's so fine" etc.
I think there's something in there about the way Blackbeard kinda embodies a sort of female rage at times? maybe thats just me but i find it very fascinating how many of us decided from like ep 1 of s2 that ed was "babygirl". I really do feel like taika gave a megan fox 'Jennifer's body' level performance through some of this. Very interesting.

HUGE SPOILER
everyone's giving their take so I'll add mine DO NOT CONTINUE UNLESS YOU'VE SEEN THE FINALE
I think given the uncertainty of the writers and actors strikes not guaranteeing this show would ever go on beyond s2 that this ending makes sense. I think the dissonance many feel at the concept of stede and ed rushing into being innkeepers is valid but i hope when they do renew the show that its almost like how anne bonny and mary read did the antiquing thing and that went poorly. I think we're right in feeling like it's not a good move for theyre current selves and i hope they explore that more in s3
take number 2: I understand why they killed him, but i can't help but mourn the concept of izzy getting to fall in love with someone, getting to be a person outside of blackbeard, getting to exist! Again they didnt know how much of a hit this season would be, or whether or not the then looming, now active strikes would impact production. Season 2 i believe was written to be an ok series finale in case that came to pass, and I can appreciate that for what it is.
Im excited for what season 3 could bring, and i still think season 2 had such beautiful character arcs. Its been so fun experiencing a fandom like this and im not gonna let pacing issues affect the fact that this is still such a good show. I can't wait to see my pirate gays again.
Also, if we love izzy enough maybe theyd do like an izzy hands prequel show? I'd personally love to see how he got to where we meet him at the start of ofmd, he's one of the most complex and interesting characters I've ever seen.
