and James Potter religiously reads it. He doesn't know who wrote it but he absolutely LOVES it. He gets Sirius and Remus looped into it and overtime it spreads to the entire house of Gryffindor. Soon all of them worship this unnamed writer. Remus is the one who catches on and asks Regulus about it and then they bond over it. Sirius catches them in the library one day, convinced that Remus is cheating on him with the other Black Brother and there they are, in the library, quietly giggling over another fanfic. He soon finds out what happened and can't process that the masterpiece of literature he loves (probably the only one he read properly) is written by his estranged little brother. They bond over it. Sirius being Sirius spills to James, because duh- best friends. Now James who already was nursing a crush on his best friend's brother FALLS IN LOVE with him because!!! omygod!?! Now Remus is watching the two fall in love with each other as much as it is possible to with people who are already in love with each other.

reg having james’ animagus as his patronus is good and all but regulus having sirius’ animagus, his big brother, his number 1 protector, as his patronus, a spell that needs happy memories for it to work, a spell that protects you from literal fear is so much more gut wrenching and heart breaking

(bonus points if somehow sirius sees his animagus coming out of reg’s wand and he thinks “atleast im still protecting him in some ways”)

Picture this: Severus Snape, as a fifth year, practicing how to stall into a room with his robes perfectly billowing like he does when he's grown up, except he hasn't mastered it yet, so Lucius sitting in the Slytherin common room with Severus stalking back and forth trying to get it right. He knocks over one of the ornate vases put on display, because the House of Slytherin is pretentious that way.
