dark urge spoilers if you haven’t played the storyline yet but. god. It’s the way durge has forgotten their father, their sister, their whole life before their brain got turned to mush but it’s gortash’s name that’s “sickeningly familiar” to them when florick mentions him in act 2. I’m gonna be sick. I need to sit down and read or write something before I start eating me hands

the conversation between sofia and mario is so haunting because you see her slowly realise that her whole family has known that her husband was going to be killed and then that he was dead and they watched sofia slip into alcoholism thinking he’d run out on her without saying a fucking word

In the last WBN it seemed like Ersulon is on his way to becoming a great spirit which begs the question: is there a point where he will no longer be able to perceive Suvie with her broach?
There is something really moving about the idea of Ersulon performing a great feat of honor and in doing so losing his connection to his surrogate sister. Then Suvie would have to choose between exposing herself to the great spirits her parents tried to protect her from and being able to speak with her true friend.

Heebie Jeebies might be my favorite episode.
One thing I love about Play it by Ear is the sheer amount of plot points I’ll be stealing for a DnD campaign or writing assignment.
1. A lake with the vengeful and curious spirit of an intelligence obsessed woman who kills whoever doesn’t tell her a story.
2. Competing labs, one being obsessed with rocks and the other obsessed with mushrooms. Their rivalry is not friendly at all. They want to kill each other.
3. A janitor who actually owns the mall they work on, and is secretly a fae creature who’s trying to dupe an unsuspecting group of kids into letting him escape into the real world
4. A town that lives in a state of extreme poverty and grunge, while the baron who lives in the manor lives in glitz and glamor, and also has a cursed painting made from blood, but that isn’t really relevant.
5. A group of German hackers/coders who are wolf furries, obsessed with helping each other let out their “inner wolves” and woofing.
6. A rival team playing from an unnamed European country, who dig up personal info on everyone they go against, and use vaguely erotic and nonsensical swears.
7. A planet whose entire economy is based on giving away explosives for sexy secrets.
Please watch this show guys. It’s so good.

not to be Catholic-raised on here, but um, actually, Make Some Noise, the immaculate conception is Mary’s conception not Jesus’ because she was conceived without original sin

Tell Suvi she’s wrong, as if you are a person in the world. We want to side with the spirit world because magic and metaknowledge about wizard hubris a trope and something Aabria loves and is incredible at.
But from Suvi’s POV, it is possible for any human to learn magic — not every one will be good at it (at least per the Citadel’s understanding of magic). And then there’s these spirits, who you have to worship or at least make a treaty with solely to keep from destroying you. Sure, some are good, but is it moral to let the bad ones live? Why do they have to come to her world? They have a place, they don’t have to interfere with her plane of existence. Just because they are more powerful, they get to interfere? And demand worship? As far we know at the moment, Naram is blessing Port Talon, but we don’t know everything. What if he bringing the fish to their shores and starving another port for not worshipping him?
Of course, you might want to say it’s about respect and not worship, but where do you draw that line with a god/spirit who’s actively involved in your life? If anything, looking at it from in world, witches are diplomats who are learning to beat spirits on their own terms. You could easily think that system isn’t great; the system seems based on favoritism and chosen ones and doesn’t apply equally to all.
In comparison, sure, the Citadel protects its favorites, but everyone still trains and learns together. Even a favorite who can’t learn a cantrip isn’t going to be able to advance too far. It could even feel more like a meritocracy. And you can beat the spirits on human terms, not theirs.
Suvi is breaking but she’s breaking because she’s young and powerful and coming to age and grew up around constant war. Sure, she grew up under what the Citadel teaches, but there’s a strong logic their words. Not to mentions, she’s already enough of a rebel by being okay with a witch and a singular spirit. We’re not gonna see her suddenly go against her and her family’s way of life two days after the scariest thing she’s ever seen.
