Rules to follow when playing basketball

Every sport or game has certain set of rules to follow in order to make sure everyone is on the same page. These rules and values are taught in sports school like SEDA NT and even in any simple street games. One of the most intense and popular sport we offer is basketball, a team sport with a lot of physical contact. Undergoing a sports development programme at SEDA NT will not only provide a high standard curriculum but also provides positive values inside and outside the game.
Way back in 1891 when basketball began, it already had certain rules to follow, which has been adapted by sports schools and even playing it on streets. As time goes, so as the evolution of these rules. The main goal or objective of the game is to throw the ball into a hoop in order to score a point, and at the end, the team with the most points wins. In a professional basketball game, each team is made up of twelve team members and only five of them are allowed to play inside the court at once. Each player inside the court has different roles to play. We have the Point Guard which is usually the best ball handler in the team and usually the shortest guy. Then we have the shooting guard which is the best outside shooter of the team and the small forward is the one who has most versatile role out of the other roles. The power forward on the other hand is the second tallest in the team then the last one position is the center which is usually the tallest and strongest player and is positioned near the basket.
At sports schools like SEDA NT, we provide sports development programmes for sports including basketball, that is also a joint initiative with Basketball NT. Aside from having a chance to play the sport that you love, and at the same time all about how to play basketball, students at SEDA NT who will take sports development programme will have the opportunity to get involved in a range of programmes and events like school based basketball clinics, match day assistance and competition management at Basketball NT together with its association and the access to Edge Health Club in Casuarina.

Netball: Then and Now

Netball is the most popular women's team participation sport in Australia and Netball schools like SEDA NT. In 1995, there were over 360,000 Australian netball players. Throughout most of Australia's netball history, the game has largely been a participation sport; it has not managed to become a large spectator sport. Netball has a colorful history and is now widely known in Australia and across the globe. Netball schools such as SEDA NT are now offering Netball related programmes not just for sports but as an applied education for the students’ career in the future.
During an Australian tour of England in 1957, discussions took place concerning standardising the rules of the sport and this led to representatives from England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and The West Indies meeting in Sri Lanka in 1960, to establish The International Federation of Women’s Basketball and Netball. Formal rules were established at this inaugural meeting and it was decided to hold World Championship tournaments every four years, beginning in Eastbourne, England, in 1963. Since then World Championships have been held in Australia 1967, Jamaica 1971, New Zealand 1975, Trinidad & Tobago 1979, Singapore 1983, Scotland 1987, Australia 1991, England 1995 and New Zealand 1999.
Throughout this period, Australia has dominated, winning the event in 1971, 1975, 1979, 1983, 1991, 1995 and 1999. The 2003 World Netball Championships in Kingston, Jamaica saw New Zealand finally breaking the Australian dominance taking Gold. The 2007 World Netball Championships was due to take place in Fiji but a political coup in the country led to the event being transferred to Auckland, New Zealand. Despite the home advantage, New Zealand were unable to defend their crown and Australia were once more World Champions. Australia retained their title in 2011 in Singapore and in 2015 in Sydney.
The Netball NT Sports Development programme is a joint initiative between SEDA NT and Netball NT. SEDA NT's Netball programme training and assessment is delivered by SEDA NT. This is a nationally recognised training on behalf of Charles Darwin University as the Registered Training Organisation (RTO ID 0373), Year 12 VET Qualification delivered by SEDA Group RTO 22503 and NTCET qualification issued through Casuarina Secondary College.
Students from Netball school such as SEDA NT have the opportunity to get involved in a range of participation programs, applied education and events including promotion and marketing for Net Set GO! Involvement in school and community netball clinics, match day assistance at Netball NT events and competitions, Event management at Australian Netball Championships and also Access to Edge Health Club in Casuarina. Once your child decided on a sport school, it is natural as a parent to want to register them to a good programme. You’ll want to find a programme whose philosophy you agree with. There are things to consider like:
Does the programme develop fair play, teamwork, and sportsmanship?
Is communication between coaches, parents, officials, and participants encouraged?
Are the procedures in choosing coaches and officials clearly outlined?
Have coaches and officials been trained appropriately? Do they provide the necessary safety equipment?
Does the programme ensure that the young athletes are in a safe and hygienic facility?
As a sports school, SEDA NT is committed to achieving meaningful changes that lead to big life successes and clear student pathways for each of our students. In choosing SEDA NT, we work to provide tailored careers plans and student pathways for individual student, for individual student even education for life beyond school and hands-on learning environment.
