working on ep.1 of dust. i'm probably going to change this lighting? cuz its hard to see stuff but i like it so here it is.

also was ALMOST done the lines but decided to add 6 more pages just to space things out (now there's 25 of them ;-;). Fighting with my habit of cramming the story into as few pages as possible... bad for atmosphere, double bad for spooky vibes. probably.

started reading Heart of Gold, those pages dedicated to just atmosphere shots are great inspo! they are so pretty...

Howdy, and thank you sm!

I went over how I picked colours for the animatic here... which is pretty much how I go about it normally. Though for stills and the like its easy to tweak colors as I go.

Most of the time I have a base color in the background and pick everything relative to that colour. e.g. if the background is green, light skin tones would be moving the colour wheel towards yellow and desaturation a bit. Since we are moving from green to light orange.

Hello. Oh my god. Your rdr2 animatic? Literally LITERALLY left me in tears . Ohhhh gooodnessss, it was the most beautiful thing I've watched. I LOVE KT SO MUCH. 😭😭😭 Everything and absolutely EVERYTHING about it was so wonderful. The colors, symbolisms, and the way some scenes are so detailed and others more simplified create such a beautiful harmony. AND SOOO MUCH MORE… AND THE MUSIC CHOICE, GOD YES!!!!!! I love the Crane Wives so much, and there are so many other songs that fit perfectly into RDR2 characters and just RDR2 as a whole. I just want to say thank you for making such a masterpiece. 😭🙏 Currently been slowly working on an RDR2 animatic as aswell (with a Crane Wives song as well), and goshhhh, you just gave me all the motivation I needed. KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK!!! (So sorry for the ramble 🥹)

Wow! The colors from your arthur morgan storyboard are brathtaking! do you do your storyboards in grayscale THEN color, or is it all just color theory? I just wonder how you made it all seem to /pop/ visually!

The process was thumbnails - then rough sketch, then went in to finish the drawing with colour:

Colour thumbnails made it less painful to try many variations and see how it looks from a distance - would recommend.

What gets the colour thumbnail approved by me:

if its easy to understand what is happening in the shot from looking at those colour blobs (arthur (aka the blue character) has a rifle and is turned around looking at mystery figures)

matches the mood I want (exposed / bad thing is happening)

i enjoy looking at them :P

matches the colours of surrounding shots if they are meant to be continuous

If I got stuck, looking at a lot of paintings / photos I like, also using different blend modes helped.

woah its a coloured animatic of sorts spooky!

ramblings and process etc;

I wanted to draw fluffy scenes because... yeah. So was looking for a suitable song for this. Honourable mentions was "Last Pale Light in the West", which fits really well... then I thought about this song

The core of this whole idea is the shot of Arthur riding home after the torture and falling into the hands of the gang :)

Also built up a ridiculously large file just for figuring out colors... I think its fun to look at

the one character design for little arthur:

very confused about "the quiet are restless" section because my original vision was this:

oh yes the first vision board - readable (subjective) from top to bottom, left to right.... with some exceptions. thing that didn't make it was arthur actually replaced by a strung up deer in the basement.

trying to figure out lineart style that might work...

then went with no lines instead, ha hahhahahah

and here's a shot that I kind of missed. Would have had arthur walking on the right, with smoke trailing behind him - and the two graves in the left panel. This is in "the cradle is burning" section

This video was edited in shotcut with the whole video split between 15 CSP files of about 10 seconds each to keep the animation layers from getting too bulky and the whole thing from crashing.

Started this on Jun 20th, now it's July 14th :0

attack number 4 is a friendly fire going out to @sealbatross! This is their character Sealphie defending her hoard of hats!

I read this and was like "yep I am going to need to draw this" while my brain is like "but we suck at drawing hats in perspective. You will have to draw a pile of hats. Why are you subjecting yourself to this, we were supposed to chill out with our attack quality this year, not go even harder!" but it was too late for I had already started sketching it and there was no going back now. This took so freaking long and I had to look at so many images of hats. It's currently 11 pm my time as i post this and I still haven't had dinner (i had a hefty lunch though) so yeah I have can't halfass art disease and I am afraid its terminal. Someone save me. I hope my effort was worth it though and that you like this art piece! Enjoy!
