Make a stand. Lend a hand. Stop Bullying.
More than a quarter of the Philippines' 105.7 million people live in dire poverty. Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year globally. Approximately 160,000 teens skip school everyday because of bullying. Students who experience bullying are at increased risk for poor school adjustment, sleep difficulties, anxiety, and depression. Students who are both targets of bullying and engage in bullying behavior are at greater risk for both mental health and behavior problems than students who only bully or are only bullied. As a parent, what can you do to stop bullying?
1. Be aware of bullying. It’s important to acknowledge when bullying is taking place, whether it be our own child or someone else’s.
2. Encourage your child to talk to you. As parents, we need to openly express to our child that bullying is wrong and should not be tolerated.
3. Talk to your child about why bullies feel they need to pick on others.
4. Help your child realize that bullies are insecure.
5. Bring the bullying to their parent’s attention.
