This upcoming (really every!) MLK Day, I want us to actually take the time to read what Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. actually said! His legacy is often wielded against Black activists as a form of "acceptable, peaceful protest", when the reality is that his beliefs and actions were so uncomfortable, so societally unacceptable and threatening to the status quo that he was assassinated 😬.

It is a show of respect to him, his memory, and his works that we actually listen to and promote the voice and values of the man himself. Letter From a Birmingham Jail is short but poignant, a good starting point. In honor of MLK this year, let's be willing to get uncomfortable, to confront our potentially harmful beliefs, for that better world he dreamed of 🙏🏾.

Viago’s voice actor and his partner lost their home and everything but their dog in the LA fires… I know exactly what that kind of pain feels like and it’s not a grief I would wish upon anyone. Above all of the anger and indescribable anguish, I remember the kindness that my community gave my family after my fire and I think we can do something really great if we pull together and help Joseph now

I do think with news of the ceasefire, everyone should read up on what the ceasefire actually means and what the different phases of the ceasefire are. here's a good source for what we know as of now:

Some of my initial takeaways are:

this ceasefire is temporary (as of right now, six weeks long). negotiations will continue but israel is not offering guarantees about continued non-violence. BDS remains important. be vigilant, keep pressure up

rafah crossing will open one week after the initial phase starts

israel will release 2000 prisoners

more aid will get to northern gaza, look out for ways you can help

if the second phase is initiated, israel will do a complete withdrawal from gaza. which means the initial phase will not include that. again i say: BE VIGILANT

if the third phase is reached, reconstruction will begin "under international supervision"

nothing is over, even if this is a relief. do not tape out, do not tune out.
