El Amanecer
A few years ago, I was in Maine, with a man-- who at the time, I believed was the future. And he was, but he was not infinity. It was the first getaway of us, after a turbulent journey of injured parties.
We joined a pair at a lake house in Maine. I’d never been through the New England states that far north. It was it’s own mark on my soul. We ate some shrooms, my first time for those too.
It was under their influence that I think my fear of bottomless waters started to fade away. I sat at the edge of the dock, staring at the sun, overcome by its glory. I closed my eyes as tears swelled through. I laid back, the sound of water crashing against land. It was there that I believe my fear of deep waters started to fade away.
On shrooms, sounds are intensified. The water crashing against land, quickly became a wave taller than the rustling trees, hovering over me. I was at peace. I was not afraid.
You feel like the sound of waves on shrooms. I feel at peace. I don’t feel afraid. And similar to my then fear of deep waters, you are a welcomed confrontation to my fear of trust.

Walk A Mile
Continued series from Dead Horse Bay. There were hundreds of shoes out there, and pieces of bathroom tile, floor tiles. As I took the photo of the porcelain hex-tiles, in my millennial mindset “#ihavethisthingwithfloors” popped up out-of-context from it’s usual lightheartedness. This floor was once in a home that was torn-down for “rezoning” and “imminent domain” aka, legal gentrification.

[ ] Bless this Home
Finally went to Dead Horse Bay last week. Upon arrival, the heaviness of people’s past washing up, visible in the low-tide weighed on me. My chest a little tight, I just lost myself in the details of things along the tide. I pieced together three separate themes, this, the first: Bless this Home based on the chipped mug that you’ll see in the first photo set the tone of commonality with this previous generation of people who’s homes and belongings ended up here thanks to imminent domain during the Robert Moses era. “rezoning” and “imminent domain” were gentrification wearing a different mask.

Photoville 2015
Went to Photoville for a workshop, but thanks to some mix-up, it wasn’t a real workshop. Ended up joining RuddyRoye’s photo challenge (look him up on IG if you aren’t familiar with his work).

Push it, push it real good
I’m pushing. I’m not entirely sure where, but I’m forcing myself to focus. For a very long time now, I’ve snapped photos in an effort to document-- but the older I get, the more connected with myself I am-- the more I’m trying to focus on my visual voice.
Do any photographers out there have any words of wisdom? I remember some feedback I got from a professor was: you don’t think conceptually. He agreed I took “nice” photos and processed them well, but it wasn’t cohesive for him. I’ve been trying to figure out how to break out of what is essentially documentary photography (with what I think is a new perspective), and really try to elevate the subjects I’m photographing.
