“Thorin, I have a weak heart. It has trouble pumping enough blood through my body. That’s why I’m always so low on energy. And…” Bilbo swallowed, forcibly keeping his eyes on the flickering flames. Thorin wasn’t moving by his side. “And it’s failing. There are healers in Greenwood who have gifts for mending hearts, but there isn’t much chance it will work. I haven’t been very responsive to any other methods, and… Well… I don’t have very long.” Bilbo dropped his eyes to his hands. He’d ripped the four-leaf clover Bofur had given him. It seemed horribly symbolic of his life.

Headed to Greenwood to see the healer Thranduil, Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey hitch a ride with thirteen dwarves headed to Erebor.

Bilbo had hoped it would be like the adventures he read. That there would be orcs, sword fights, torture, revenge, trolls, chases, or escapes.

He had never expected miracles or true love.

Introducing: chemicaldefect09!

A longtime member of the fandom is the fantastic chemicaldefect09, who posted her first Hobbit RPF story back in February 2013!  She's got loads of Hobbit stories, and really shines in the RPF tag with some very hot smut.  She's participated in collaborations with thornyhedge in the past as well!

We recommend her newest Fili/Kili fic, a modern AU dealing with homophobia and religious views, What can make me whole again?  Or if you're looking for RPF smut, there's a great Richard/Aidan story (okay, there's lots of great Richard/Aidan stories) that we recommend called "He's pretty strong, he's big, and he's scary with that ponytail."

We posted this once but it's been requested again by a reader.  So we'll reblog it!  Great story - if you haven't read it yet, you should check it out!  Our recommender had this to say about the story:

Set in the Gilded Age, Fili and Kili are not related. Fili is the nephew of Thorin, wealthy and privileged; Kili is a young rent-boy who sells his body to survive. It’s a journey of discovery for both of them, with danger, tenderness, some angst, and a glorious ending.

New York City, 1880, the Gilded Age. Fili Durin is a wealthy, sheltered young railroad heir fresh out of college. He meets a young prostitute named Kili and is instantly smitten with the boy. But Kili’s trust is not easily won and Fili’s uncle and guardian disapproves in his choice of lover.

Another fic recommendation!  This time for thegreensorceress and her series The Gilded Age.  This series begins with the finished story Rent-boy, a fantastic piece set in NYC in the 1800s.  It’s important to highlight this fact because the setting and time period place such an amazing role in this story - you’d think GreenSorceress was there - because it’s written in such beautiful detail that I could picture the entire story as I was reading.

And the characterizations are amazing.  The story features Fili and Kili, but so many other characters play roles as well, including some faces from LOTR trilogy.  After finishing this amazing first story, move onto Rent-Boy Accompaniments, short chapters set in the Rent-boy universe, and then Freedom, which follows Legolas after the events in Rent-boy and is still in progress.

RuneofGandalf wants YOUR Recomendations!

RuneofGandalf is run by two bloggers. We both have other blogs, as well as full time lives, and as much as we would love to devote 100% of our time to The Hobbit, we just can't. Also, the both of us are rather partial to the Fili/Kili and Durincest side of fanfiction and fanart.

That's why we need your help. Send us fic recommendations, send us suggestions for our introductions, send us thoughts on things you would like to see highlighted!

For the fic recs, it does not have to be a finished story, we will accept WIP. It can be for any ship as long as the primary fandom is the Hobbit. Send us as much information as you have, fic title, author, where it can be found(ao3, ff,net, etc) and anything else you want to include.

For an introduction rec, the blogger must be active on tumblr. It can be for a fanfiction write, a fan artist, or a passionate fan. Again, the primary fandom needs to be the Hobbit.

Send us the recs in a fan mail or as an ask(no anons for introduction requests). We will post them as soon as is convenient for one of us.

And is there is something else you would like to see on our blog, let us know! As long as it is positive and related to the Hobbit, we want to hear it!
