If I had a nickel for every time Martin Freeman played the role of a character writing down the adventures with his homoerotic best friend, I'd have two. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

It is unlikely that the creators of the show put meaning into each character in this scene and frame. However, they paid more attention to Celebrimbor, probably. As you can see, he is in the shadow and the shadow of chains falls on him. If you turn your attention to others, the shadow and light are distributed in such a way that it reads like this.

🍁✨High King of the noldor Erenion Gil-galad . The sunlight falls and envelops almost the entire elf, except for his head, where his thoughts are. No one is allowed to know what he is planning and he does not give anyone the opportunity to do so. The light symbolizes that it is Gil Galad who, with his greatness and power, will fight against evil both before and after death.

🌿✨Elrond. The shadow of Gil Galad covers Elrond, preventing /someone/something from seeing the future fighter/king. The shadow of the king's figure prevents the young elf's figure from fully revealing itself. Elrond's time will come. But with one foot he is already on the edge of the light that envelops the king. Soon he will take this place.

🪷✨Galadriel. The light in which she was born should bring grace and goodness to those around her, but it beats against her back. And from her only a shadow falls on those around her. Whatever she touches, whatever she undertakes, it is foretold as misfortune.

Okay literally no one asked but as a former Hobbit movie hater who has since experienced character growth, I feel compelled to share my thoughts on the movies on my gay little blog.

Listen. There are legit reasons to be critical of these movies. They were made on a rushed timeline, at time where CGI overuse was the thing and there are definitely unnecessary moments. But despite those issues, these movies still have a lot of heart and character and some really wonderful acting! To compare them to LOTR, is unfair I think because LOTR was such an unimaginable success and I truly believe no other movie franchise can do what those movies did. To expect the Hobbit movies to be the same caliber considering the behind the scenes drama and massive difference in timeline is just not it.

Truly I think that the Hobbit could have been much more than it was and it’s sad to see the amazing moments and realize that we could have had movies that were maybe closer to the level of LOTR, but that doesn’t take away from all of the great things that the movies gave us! Despite what he may be like irl, Martin Freeman was a great young Bilbo, Richard Armitage was insanely good as Thorin (despite the change in age) and the other dwarf actors brought a great sense of loyalty, brotherhood and shared loss to their roles. The music is still dope as hell and there are some beautiful shots despite all the CGI.

This is way too long and I’ve not said anything that hasn’t been said before but honestly, I’m so glad that I stopped hating on these movies and have seen the special things about them. Nothing will ever compare to LOTR, but that doesn’t make these movies bad. They’re fun, they’re emotional, they have great characterization and it’s super valid to enjoy them.

Final gay thoughts because I’m obligated, but I struggle with people who argue against Bagginshield with the whole “why does everyone have to make everything gay?” thing. Because Hollywood is so deeply homophobic that we see so little genuine queer representation, so forgive us for enjoying the chemistry we find and making it our own since our society gives us breadcrumbs. If you’re not into Bagginshield, totally legit and fine, but don’t hate on other people (especially queer people) trying to find some romantic love in media that we enjoy. Also no one can convince me that Richard Armitage wasn’t at least somewhat intentionally putting his queer energy into this role, I will die on this hill.

Anyway, TL;DR there’s no shame in liking or loving the Hobbit movies despite their faults and there are lots of things to appreciate and enjoy and I for one, am glad to leave my LOTR purist hater days behind me

Thorin's rare fragile smile lights up the space around him, like magic fireworks sparking and exciting the air; but then it's the air inside me. Yes! Colors are made that much more vibrant right before our eyes, and a feeling of lightness flows through, as soon as his dear face brightens so honestly.

Or perhaps that's simply my own feelings... I can't truly say if everyone feels that way....

Elladan and Elrohir challenged Legolas to 1 rock climbing competition, and have since resolved to never do that again.

Have you ever seen how fast professional, competitive, rock climbers race up those rock walls? Legolas climbs like that.

It’s largely due to the fact that silvans clamber and sprint through the tree branches of their forests and are very used to launching themselves up into trees from the ground floor. So they have a lot of upper body strength and agility.

Meanwhile, while the noldo and sinda elves are no slauches, it’s simply not their area of expertise as they usually fight and move on the ground floor.

So yea, Legolas is an absolute spider moneky and easily destroyed the twins in a rock climbing competition.

It should be noted that legolas absolutely will climb all over Rivendell, much to everyone’s awe and confusion bc how tf did he get there???

Legolas also taught areen the basics.

The first time arwen managed to climb her way up to the roof of a building from the outside, everyone almost had a heart attack, except for celebrian and legolas, who were to busy laughing.

I love that when Galadriel ponders who Elrond could have gone to with the rings, she says, "It is someone wiser than us whose voice will carry authority even for you, King."

Whenever I picture Thingol in my head, I always imagine Lee Pace as Thranduil from the Hobbit movies

If I were making a Beren and Lúthien movie, I would totally cast Lee Pace as Thingol.

He already looks amazing as Thranduil. But can you imagine him as the OG Forest Elf King?
