wicked proved something that i and most people who like specific niches already understood but hollywood seems to not get: in order to direct a project that originates in media with a very specific language, you need a team who understands both the language of the original text and the language of the media it’s being translated to. you may be an incredible film director but if your style is gritty realism there is no reason why you should be directing a film based on musical theatre, one of the forms of media that requires the most suspension of disbelief from its public - and one that gets it very easily because such is simply the nature of it, unlike film. if you are directing a period piece, you need to understand what about the source material was so interesting and fresh that people are still talking about it decades later and translate that interest to screen - otherwise it’s just people in old timey clothes, not an adaptation. successful properties with established fandoms like that thrive because of the medium they use, not in spite of it - you need to respect and like that about them, otherwise your take on it is always gonna be lacking

I am saddened and disgusted by JK Rowling’s recent and continued abuse of the Trans community and in effect Trans people themselves. I am more so disgusted that she finds the subsequent anger over her words “amusing”. Listen, at this point one single hateful voice should be obsolete - old news - but even after four plus years of this shit, her hateful comments continue to appear on my social media feed and I don’t even follow her. I know her books are beloved, I grew up with them too, but I’m sick and tired of the hateful person having such a platform. Twice this week I have been bombarded by her words and her face. Once that recent interview she did and just minutes ago her actual posts showing up on my twitter feed. I had such a fun morning with my DnD group and now I’m just in a foul mood. Why on earth do we call TERFS, TERFS and not just bigots and transphobes. I’m uncomfortable with the idea of these people calling themselves feminist. Feminists fight for gender equality so as long as you use and abuse our transgender sisters and siblings you have no right to be counted among those of us who actually behave like feminists. TERFS are ascribing a very real fear of cis men and rape culture to a different group of people who have a) done nothing to deserve it and b) been maybe even more oppressed and abused than us cis gendered women. TERFS take away actual help and change from not only trans women but from other cis women as well. If we keep saying that trans women using public restrooms is the reason women are in danger in society, cis men who stalk, belittle, cat call, rape, assault, harass, abuse, confuse, gaslight, and control us go unnoticed and get away with it. The cis men who abuse us and control our society benefit from the rhetoric that TERFS push. So, no. TERFS are not feminists, they are bigoted women who suffer from severe internalized misogyny and abuse other women. I’VE DONE IT!!!! Week one of semester number four is officially over!!!! And with some much needed math tutoring from my little sister I’m pretty on top of my HW too!!! Heyo! I know it’s been a few days! Breaks finally over and it’s back to school! I might be the only college student in the world whose exited about that though… Had my first class yesterday! It’s a nine am class but it’s lgbt history taught by a very sassy old man so it’s all good fun! I feel very at home in that class! Now I’m just waiting for it to be time for todays class! I know it’s late but…. DIABETES CHRISTMAS This year for diabetes Christmas mom left some compression socks in my stocking. I was skeptical at first because my edema gets so bad that I can’t get compression socks on and off. These are great though because they only compress in the middle of the foot right where I need it! We stopped and hung out in Santa Fe today!!!! It was a little off the path but we had lots of fun and are staying in a very cute room so it’s all part of the adventure I guess!!! The food as been good and everything is SOOOO cute!!! We stopped in lots of shops and saw this cool looking church! I walked in and announced my queerness but no one even blinked :( Now I’m just eating a crepe and enjoying life! Also there are dogs everywhere in this town! I can’t wait to see my Natsu! We drove a shorter distance today so we could stop in the Cherokee Nation and see a local Museum which was really cool. On the way over however, we took a wrong turn and ended up on the scenic route rather than the freeway! It was absolutely beautiful! I take cross country road trips with my mom pretty much biannually at this point and watching the countryside slowly change is my favorite thing! We also saw an old looking castle up on a hill and tried to go get a closer look but no matter what road we took we ended up driving away from it! I think I’ll write a magical little short story inspired by that tonight!! LAST DAY OF THE YEAR!!!! So for my last little recap, I want to talk about the wonderful @aac_creatives Aspiring Authors Club was created by my magnificent friend @rea.anemoia at the beginning of this semester to create a community for the writers at our school. Ironically, CCC hasn’t really enabled our writers much of a voice and the department has been run fairly poorly. Rea and the board members have done an amazing job working to change that these past few months. I am humbled and honored to be witness to the positive change Rea creates in our school environment! A few months ago I was included in the online literature publication Lines and Breaks by @writegirlla WriteGirl is a wonderful LA based program for young local girls to build confidence, community, and learn to write. I was a member when I was younger and I often say WriteGirl is the best thing that ever happened to me. They are the reason I chose to go after writing. It was such a wonderful thing to be able to reconnect with them in this way after years and going off to college. It’s amazing to see how much they have expanded in my time away from the program and how they reach girls all over now and not just in LA! Thank you WriteGirl for everything you do!
