Steve Zissou.
Playing/experimenting with inks again, learning what works and what doesn’t. Steve’s come out very tan here, but I do enjoy the overall organic quality of my messy brushstrokes, which is totally different from digital colouring.

Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) is one of my all-time favourite films. The vanishing of the girls in the sweltering heat, as though swallowed up by the rocky mountain, is so chilling. A haunting mystery. I worked on this sporadically over several nights, sitting on my bedroom floor and listening to Radiohead, Hushed and Jeff Beal. Sometimes it’s just the best way to unwind after an intense day.

“But now When wolf-toothed panic stalks the streets Red tongue lolling...” This was a very hasty drawing I did as an assignment for my Voice class, in response to one of Dionysus’ monologues I’m working on from ‘The Bacchae’ by Euripides. I was so captured by the language of this piece.
In the mouth of the wolf is the city of Thebes, whose citizens and king have incurred the wrath of Dionysus. They’ve chosen to honour other gods (sacrificial smoke rising up from the city) while dismissing Dionysus, who has been watching all this with increasing rage.
Even though it’s pretty rough, I enjoyed finding a composition from the wonderful, vivid words. (the paper is a little scuffed and bent from being carted to class and back).

My brother turned 30 this year. He loves dance, and this drawing for him emerged from some ideas I had floating in my head. .

My Aunt lives on a council estate in London; a run down set of flats filled with an assortment of characterful migrants and low-income families. It’s a place that asks a lot of her, as she works tirelessly to help those who ask. On a shelf in her dining room, there sits this enormous sea urchin among a bowl of seashells. I drew this for her as a thank you for letting me stay during the summer.

Home | Shell . . . A piece I drew in the new year; a gift for my dear friends Victor & Kitty Joe. I had a lot of fun with the detailing and was kinda happy with how it turned out.

Viola. I’m not sure where she came from, but there’s a hint of mystery to her and I feel like she has a story to tell. . .
