This is such a strange thing to navigate. I am 30 years old. I was always considered an 'older' member of the 1D fandom. But to me, it felt natural. I was the same age as the boys. I grew up at the same time they did, although leading a much quieter life. They brought me joy in the darkest of times and have made me laugh, scream, cry and sob many many times over the years.

This weekend has been surreal. I have sat here crying on and off. I can't explain to my friends why I am upset - how do you explain that someone you have never met can cause this level of grief? But it was more than just a celebrity dying for me. It was a person who saved my life at one point, someone who was the reason I met many of my friends and someone who was a major major part of my childhood.

Grief is funny. At the moment I can't imagine how I will be able to think about One Direction without bursting into tears... but I know someday I will. These boys mean the world to both teenage me and current me. Even if I haven't been the biggest fangirl the past few years, they still own a piece of my heart.

Liam, I am sorry for what you went through. I hope you are happier now. I am sorry we couldn't save you like you saved so many of us.
