Just realized that the reason I love making friends on tumblr is because it’s exactly how you make friends on the playground as a six year old. No, I don’t know their name but they love mermaids too and built this awesome sand castle. No, I don’t know their age but their imaginary cheetah is friends with mine. You like this show? You like this character?? You can sing the theme song really loud??? Here is a flower crown. Here is a juice box. You can share my time and I might never see you again but part of you stays in my soul forever. In my mind we’re still on the swing set and the sky is blue and nothing will ever be wrong again.

#OOH OOH OOH I get to talk about ALL my local airports#so fun fact: I use three different answers in this poll because the Washington Metro Area has THREE major airports within driving distance#up north we have my favorite airport BWI (three-letter call sign)#because no one is going to fucking call it *deep breath* Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport#unless they have full lungs or are trying to up the word count on an essay#‘BWI’ takes SO much less time to day and everyone knows what you’re referring to#next we have Dulles to the west in Virginia#that one gets the city/region option because it’s… just Dulles. in Dulles Virginia.#the only other part to its name is ‘International’. it’s not even named after a person#plus its airport code is ‘IAD’ which is not NEARLY as intuitive as BWI#I suppose calling it ‘DIA’ would be confusing to Spanish-speakers though#then we have Reagan airport down south of DC on the Potomac#Reagan gets that name both because ‘Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport’ is too long to say#and because ‘Washington Airport’ is not nearly distinct enough when specifying destination#as previously discussed there are three major international airports within 50 miles of each other#sure they’re TECHNICALLY in three different states but when you’re talking about long-distance air travel that’s pretty damn close#plus BWI also has ‘Washington’ as a big part of its name#so it’s a lot easier to refer to Reagan by the most distinct part of its name - the namesake former president#you MAY find people referring to it as ‘DCA’ but it’s not as common#it’s fun to see how many responses there are for each of these options!#I wonder how they change depending on how often people fly?#I bet you’ll find more nicknames among urban-area people too#the more airports spring up around a major population center the more you need to distinguish them quickly#I’ll get into why BWI is awesome and Reagan sucks another time#worthy reblog#polls#rambling in tags#about me#my life
