In ancient times there was a belief that Helen of Troy was of Egypt, from whence so much of Hellenic culture had come. Thus the story (told most recently by the modernist poet H.D.) that the souls of Helen and Achilles had been transported to Egypt, there to live out a passionate, wounded love while mere semblances took their places in the destructive war for loot and  glory that Homer sang.
