Today I woke up with the re-realization that women in the past probably knew how dangerous childbirth was and yet still got pregnant. There are several explanations for that and many of them are very OOF.

Protagonism is best left to teens and the insane.
Tumblr media
where's that masterpost of quotes that have no right going as hard as they do. I'd like to submit "Protagonism is best left to teens and the insane"

Unless I hear a better idea, the thing I am going to do is get involved in US Soccer and try to evangelize it to my friends. Why?
1) Aerobic exercise is going to be useful to improve mental and physical health, which will be generally useful if things are headed towards disaster.
2) The ability to do teamwork is also going to be generally useful if things are heading towards disaster.
3) Having positive social connections to immigrant communities is also going to be generally useful if things are genuinely heading towards disaster.
4) All of these things are *also* useful outside of the disaster scenarios.
5) We can actually practice safely solving whatever the problems actually are with trans people and sports. I doubt those problems are large.
6) It would be fun and non-bonkers.
Social Epistemics is Hard
So, a bunch of my friends are distressed about fascism and/or nazis. I have been in a strange place about this. On the one hand, I'm pretty committed to opposing actual fascism. I used to follow the pledge of allegiance with a whispered oath to take up arms if national socialists ever invaded my hometown. I returned to the US in the wake of January 6th in partly order to do something about the risk of the downfall of the republic. But I keep running into situations where I'll see someone sounding an alarm and then look into it and ... and I'll discover that actually: 1) The person who thinks that the federal government does whatever it wants with no constraints also doesn't even care about the risks of their own behavior which violates the 21st Amendment. 2) The "call to put people into camps" which MSNBC talks about is actually someone saying we should establish addiction recovery centers where people can get away from being terminally online, touch grass, eat healthy food, and live in community. 3) The "fascist organization" that they are worried about is actually the American Legion, a group focusing on the health and re-entry of veterans ... AKA, an organization that actually *dissolves* fascism. 4) The small party which someone is calling "White Nationalists" has a racially diverse board. Sure, they are christian, but not christian nationalists. They include a former leader for the Obama campaign. And so I am left unsure what to do. On the one hand, I don't like the fact that people in my circle are distressed... on the other hand: 1) I don't know how to help solve problems that I cannot get a hold of. 2) I am concerned that validating their emotions about the situation actually has the effect of feeding the fear-beast. 3) Ignoring evidence makes us less prepared to face genuine threats. So... what do?

I disagree. I believe men’s bodies were made to love. Why wouldn’t that be equally true of women?
women’s bodies weren’t “made” to do anything, nature didn’t “intend” anything, no human action is “unnatural” and there is no inherent “purpose” to a human life

Guys my therapist is starting at a new workplace and this is *so* convenient it is great!
Also, he has experience as a construction manager, which is still the most reassuring thing ever.

You think “oh it would be useful to learn how to identify my thrifted yarn and clothing” and before you know it you’ve been recruited by fiber witches giving out their spells willy nilly, again

Okay, so this is something I just *do* *not* *get* about the idea of hell. What does it mean does it mean to "deserve" to go to hell? I mean, I barely understand the concept of "deserving" things in general... but hell? huh? This is like saying that if you refuse to drink fluids, you deserve to be thirsty.
Just noticing something: I have seen Calvinists say before that "even babies deserve to go to hell" but I have yet to ever see a Calvinist say that "Yes, there are infants in hell" or "No, there are not infants in hell". (my horrible "reformed" baptist pastor does not count; but he believes in age of accountability)

America is ...descending into...anti-war fascism?
...with 8% annual defence spending cuts? Interesting.

This is what tumblr has chosen to advertise to me. TBH, pretty spot-on for a chunk of what I am concerned about.

I like the internet so much more since I filled my tumblr with fiber arts content. It’s like “oh here is a lovely break from stressful things. Yay! Oh…well she looks very huggable and she made a sweater. Yay!” And then I wanna go and build things and teach immigrants and defend pluralism.

Some of the beautiful purples that @sealymacwheely has in her shop in Kirkintilloch. If you can’t physically get there, you can message her and she will send it to you. Many, but not all, are also available on my website. Mothyandthesquid.com

I don’t like agreeing to do things because sometimes the appointed time comes and all I want to do is cuddle. I should only agree to do things in the future if those things are cuddles.
