“In many ways, art therapy in relation to trauma allows for a beautiful bridge for people when they aren’t able to notice or become aware of what they are feeling in their bodies because their bodies have shut down in that way and the artwork brings it forward.” - Darcy Lubbers

At PCH we find that the label ‘personality disorder’ to inaccurately suggests a permanent state of a person’s personality. Rather, we believe that people suffering from personality states relates to stress, trauma or relational difficulties. Treatment for these issues should focus less on what is wrong with the person but more on the trauma that triggered these relational states.
Join us as we delve deep into the evolution and issues behind the label ‘personality disorder’, how we found a better and more empathic way to think about this disorder as well as discuss effective means of treating complex trauma and related personality issues.

Diagnosing OCD & The Best Treatment Options
Jeff Ball, Ph.D., Co-Founder, CEO and Executive Director of PCH Treatment Center discusses identifying Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and potential treatment options for those suffering from it in this interview on KTLA 5.
As you enjoy the video here are some of the highlights from the interview you can expect to hear about. Find out what Dr. Ball had to say about the prevalence of OCD in the U.S. and the most effective treatment methods available to address the symptoms that have disrupted the lives of those dealing with this disorder:
“Nearly two and a half percent of the US population suffers from some form of obsessive compulsive disorder and while many may think they have OCD not all abnormal behaviors can be classified as so.”
“Experts say while some are born with it many debilitated by the disorder often experience a life-changing event that sets off symptoms.”
“There are others that there's particular events that seem to trigger it”
“To be ‘health smart’ knowing the signs of OCD is the first step in breaking free. Identify the differences between habitual hang-ups versus imprisoning paranoia.”
“Three million Americans suffer from OCD, from actually diagnosed obsessive compulsive disorder, ninety-three percent of the public have some obsessive traits but again not at the level of disorder.”
“Also loved ones should realize those consumed with OCD usually know their routines are irrational but still are enslaved to carry out the compulsive acts”
“Dr. Jeff ball advises people do not have to suffer in silence there is a way out”
“The best treatment for OCD is cognitive behavioral therapy. Thoughts are examined and they’re explored. ERP or exposure response prevention which is exposing the person to the feared object or the feared situation. It's really effective treatment for these kinds of issues.”
“If you or loved one feel like you may have some form of OCD you can call the PCH treatment center for a consultation.”

Did You Know?
The onset of OCD occurs before the age of 25 in 50-65% of patients, peaks at age 20, and develops before age 35 in more than 85% of patients.
It tends to be chronic as evidenced by 43 to 68% of adolescents still meeting diagnostic criteria 2 to 7 and 9 to 14 years after treatment.
OCD poses a significant public health burden due to its prevalence and the financial cost associated with it.
OCD affects 2-3% of the US adult population, with an estimated 3.3 million Americans suffering from the disease (NIMH, 2000).
OCD was considered a treatment-resistant disorder until the relatively recent development of pharmacological and psychosocial interventions that have greatly improved prognosis.
OCD has been found to be comorbid with substance abuse, eating disorders, bipolar illness, psychotic features, and personality disorders.
While the etiology of OCD is unclear, its underlying neurobiology is associated with faulty neurocircuitry involving the basal ganglia, thalamus, and frontal cortex.

PCH Treatment Center: A Unique Perspective Into Psychological Care & Healing
Video Transcription
“PCH Treatment is unique treatment center located in Los Angeles. We specialize in bipolar disorder, depression, personality issues, trauma, and anxiety.
From my work in private practice and in psychiatric hospitals I noticed that many people require more than outpatient treatment but don't require or want the traumatizing environment of a psychiatric hospital.
PCH Treatment Center provides a safe and caring environment for those with psychological problems. We provide a full day of therapies and holistic activities to help people improve the qualities of their lives. We offer several treatment options from residential, day treatment, family treatment as well as a part-time program for those with dual diagnosis.
We've designed PCH Treatment to be affordable; up to 40% less than most of our competitors. We found that we can provide more quality care than most other programs by providing daily individual therapy and a wide range of groups while still keeping costs reasonable and affordable to those who need our services. I've trained therapists for over 25 years and have drawn from the best clinicians in the city to provide doctoral level individual therapists as well as highly experienced group therapists.”
