i get the impression that the movie has more nuance in terms of utilizing horror as a genre for addressing trauma, which would be a way to add tact where there might not be any in the source material.

yes! the movie, particularly the new one, is very well nuanced and crafted in regards to how it addresses facing trauma. it’s a very meaningful story with power. in k.ng’s book however, it’s more like trauma p*rn. like the whole point is exploiting trauma and fear as opposed to giving us a nuanced story. and of course, k.ng’s wet dream fantasy of his evil schoolyard bullies getting theirs is a big part of that but it’s... torture p*rn. whatever his intent it isn’t articulated very well. it’s not that great. 

the new movie really blew me away with how tactful its approach was, especially with the character who’s a csa survivor. it was so much better portrayed than what k.ng did in the book. k.ng was like “oh this character who is a csa survivor gets called a wh*re and it’s so unfair and terrible!” [has her sleep with all of her male friends in exploitative ways because Friendship(tm) as opposed to addressing her trauma tactfully] .. if u can’t hear it through the text, i’m rolling my eyes. the movie, however, gives her depth and approaches to her trauma in ways that are cathartic and satisfying to viewers, NOT exploitative and re-traumatizing.

i have neither read nor watched any incarnation of IT and i never plan to but the bullet point about slaughtering a gay man in front of his lover makes it especially goddamn gross to make that association.

personally i like the new movie & the 90s made for TV movie is ... alright .. but . i hate the book. i think ive ranted to you about my dislike for st.ph.n k.ng in the past but ..... he’s a mess. something about an adult man writing child sex scenes for one thing is fucking deplorable, but he’s ... unendingly depraved regarding certain subjects he writes on in the book, like what’s mentioned above. personally, i feel k.ng uses some of his villains as a way of writing harmful as fuck subjects without getting in trouble for it, like as a shield for some of his own beliefs and obviously that’s fucked up but... damn. k.ng is supremely problematic and the i//t/// book is no exception. the movies imo are far more tactful. but for all of these reasons?? it just makes it so inappropriate and in poor taste to use one of k.ng’s villains as some kind of LGBT+ icon. it’s unacceptable.

hey rpc, i need your help

on the 22nd we find out when and where we’re moving. we’ve actively been putting money into savings specifically for the move but this is significantly hindering us with regards to affording other necessities (food, feminine hygiene products, my medications, etc.) on top of our bills.

 if you could boost this post, boost my commissions post or even consider donating here it would help me out significantly. we just don’t have enough to move (it is a medically necessary move, feel free to IM for more info) and afford food right now but as you can probably gather, both are absolutely necessary for both my health and well-being.

this month has been one of the hardest yet so any help, boosting this, commissioning me, donating, recommending my commissions, anything — goes a long way to helping us. depending on where we get moved to, the trip could be up to 6 days of travel. our biggest concern is travel expenses including lodging (what hotels we stay in), food, gas, and repairs to our car needed to travel (the ac in our car is broken and the tires are misaligned) as well as the repair expenses for when we move out of our current home. we have renters insurance but it only covers so much and from what we’ve estimated we still won’t be able to afford all of it.

overall there’s just a lot that’s piled up and we have a fair amount in savings for when the move happens and for repairs, but saving the way we have has cut significantly into our food money and our money for other necessities. affording to live right now has been extremely difficult. ive had to wean off of my medication and i haven’t been able to get feminine hygiene products this month in order to afford other necessities. it’s a pick & choose your battles kind of thing that is hurting my health a lot.

                         The word  HOME  never leaves a good taste in his mouth, it’s somehow  more distasteful  from the mouth of others, laden with some  UNSPOKEN JEALOUSY  he harbors for people who  found it so easy to just settle.  He was never in the business of making a home out of places.
