The Uncompahgre River Trail is an important part of the Ouray community. Built by the city, the nature walk runs from Town Park to the outskirts of town. This is vital in connecting people who live further out with a walking path to get into town. The whole trail is dotted with cabins and houses along the way in addition to town funded picnic tables and plaques marking historical points of interest (pictured above). The trail also encourages healthy lifestyle with small outdoors exercise stations along the way.
Many people, tourists and locals alike, go for runs, walks, and biking on the trail!
What's your favorite part/ thing to do on the river trail?

Resilient.
I know this isn't the theme for this week but I thought it also showed natural so I still wanted to post anyway.
Ouray county is full of resilient people. And lasts week's music in the park is a perfect example of this.
The night started off fairly average. The opening act got people up and on their feet, dancing to Bluegrass style music. Locals made small talk, catching up on the latest local gossip and visitors got warm welcomes. It seemed like it was going to be pretty normal.
Until the headliner came on. Then the clouds that had been hanging over the park for the entire evening opened up and started pouring rain on the gathered listeners.
This has been pretty normal for Ouray in the past couple of weeks but what was really surprising is that few people moved. If anything, more people got out of their chairs and started dancing to keep warm. The band kept rocking, people kept dancing and everyone was still having a good time. The shower was strong but quick and soon the clouds receded, rewarding the patient crowds with the last rays of sun and a gorgeous sunset.
To me, this is what Ouray County means. Ouray and Ridgway are full of people who are willing to dance in the rain, wait for the sun to come out, and enjoy the sunset soaking wet. We endure bitterly cold winters to enjoy the lovely summers, we trek through snow and mud to spend time with friends, we look beyond the pouring rain and wait for the rainbow.
It's something really special- not often do you find a place where living there is an adventure everyday. People here are willing to try new things, not afraid of getting wet or cold if it means having fun.
So to wrap this all up, Ouray County is a place like no other.

Another great post about how beautiful Ouray is!

Bear Creek Falls is one of the many gorgeous waterfalls Ouray County has to offer. Before the overlook was built, it was almost impossible to take decent pictures of these falls and very difficult to find them as well without falling off the cliff! I don’t know about my fellow canyoneers but I would totally love to repel myself down this waterfall!!

Went on the Weehawken Trail yesterday and had a blast! The trail starts right across the road from the Thistledown Campground, one of the three closest natural campgrounds in the area. The hike takes you up a few switch-backs(elevation gain), through a part of the forest and brings you into a meadow of wildflowers! There are so many photo opportunities on this trail I lost all the battery in my camera!!

Today's word is festive. Ouray County is like a party and Ouray's 4th of July celebrations are a perfect example of that!
A small town parade kicks of the day. Since it is easy to join the parade, all sorts of people participate. Peopel from the local livery barns ride horses down the street, fire trucks blast their sirens, jeeps show off their patriotism and style,  and student performers show off their skills!
The winner of the summer long, annual jeep raffle is announced and someone gets to ride off in a brand new jeep.
The water fights is the peak of the day for a lot of people! Firefighters get decked out in full gear and essentially play a game of tug-o-war. Lots of locals watch from the rooftops of businesses they or their friends own. It builds a lot of attention for our volunteer- only fire department and helps get a lot of donations for them.
This isn't the only time people flock to the party! Outdoor music, picnicing and cook outs, mountain adventuring- these are just a few of the things that people love to do in the summer here in Ouray!

Cool pic of one of the oldest buildings in Ouray, built in 1887. It's received the Governor's Award for Historic Preservation after the hotel was restored from near condemnation. It's boasted guests like Teddy Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover. Today you can still stay in one of the hotel's 12 guest rooms and experience the history for yourself.

Another gorgeous pic. Locals hike up to play in the water or just to hang out all the time, it's popular but secluded!
