saw something that gave me the idea that bruce has two wallets- one for brucie and one for batman.
each of these wallets has the accordion-picture thing so he can pull out pictures of his kids and show people at a moments notice.
the brucie wallet has pictures of them all as civilians (dick, jason, tim, damian, cass, steph, and duke). -depending on whether or not jason is legally alive, the picture(s) might be of them when he obtained them, rather than them now.
the batman wallet is the same, but the kids are in their suits (nightwing, red hood, red robin, robin, black bat, spoiler, and signal). these he’d probably keep updated with any suit or alias changes, otherwise he’d probably just have a bunch of robin pictures (which would also be funny, so maybe a third wallet for that lmao)

One day a man goes missing in Gotham. Nobody special, just another unlucky lowlife schmuck who owed money to the wrong people. The kind of guy with nobody in the world to miss him. Bruce and Babs are sharing notes when Cassandra wanders in. When she notices a picture of the guy's face her eyes harden in a way they're very unused to and she insists they put her on the case. She very pointedly asks for his name before pulling down her mask and leaping out the window.
They don't see her again for the next several days. She tears through the city's criminal underbelly with an unmatched ferocity. She's always driven but this concerns even Bruce. If experience has taught them anything though, it's that there's no talking to her when she's like this so they can do nothing but wait and hope.
Eventually she puts enough pressure on that somebody gives her a location. Not an hour later she's untying the man from a chair in a dank cellar in a dive bar on the outskirts of the city. He's not exactly on the right side of law so when he pulls the blindfold from over his eyes and sees a Bat standing right in front of him, especially this bat, he yelps and recoils in fear. Then she hugs him. She hugs him tight and holds on long enough that he forgets his fear and instead starts to feel distinctly awkward. Then just as quickly she vanishes, leaving him alone and too stunned for words.
He doesn't remember, but then, she never expected him to. It was years ago after all. A cold night, even for winter in Gotham when a petty crook decided the girl huddled on a street corner with no home to go back to looked like she needed that hot cup of cocoa more than he did. She remembered though.

comic review: superman smashes the klan (2019) by gene luen yang
⭑ ⭑ ⭑ ⭑ ⭑ (5/5 stars)
yays: what’s not to love? tight storytelling, a lovely character arc for superman, fantastic supporting characters, nice art, and a bunch of metropolitans helping superman beat up white supremacists! this is a superman comic that i would just as easily put in the hands of a kid as i would my friends or parents. there’s a character and appeal for everyone, and the story is told in three issues that each pack a nice punch. the story revolves around roberta and clark’s parallel journeys in accepting themselves, and it just makes for such a sweet story that feels so true to superman and the “golden age” americana-esque comics. the story is easily digestible but not boring or overdone. in fact, the characterization of clark is so well-intended that it’s like a treat, especially in the wake of more gritty, dark DC comics that aren’t as forgiving to the original character.
nays: if anything, the story is predictable, but i can’t even say that’s a con in good faith because i think the comic works better with this simple premise that focuses more on the heart that the characters bring.
worth a purchase: definitely! this is essential superman and a great comic to have as a standalone recommendation for anyone!

comic review: heroes in crisis (2018) by tom king
⭑ ⭑ (2/5 stars)
yays:
i am a sucker for dc crossover events and the like (which is setting myself up for failure honestly because they are always extremely controversial), and so i really enjoy seeing all the heroes come together and interact. in this run my favorite pairings were booster gold & blue beetle, along with brief batman & flash (barry allen). the art in these issues is great MOST of the time (more on that in the nays section). i think the strongest aspect of this run for me is the concept! the idea of the heroes confronting PTSD is so interesting, and that’s what makes people flock to this comic run. this comic also includes a ton of heroes that i am not familiar with, and some that i wasn’t even aware of. it’s fun to see new heroes and it can help me and anyone reading branch off into other interesting B/C/D-level heroes in DC. the highlight of the comic is the speech that superman gives to the press following the release of the sanctuary data to the daily planet. very well written and has a nice core theme to it that i would like to see expanded on.
nays:
the handling of mental health is a glaring issue in this run, and the design of the sanctuary is deeply flawed. the justice league is full of massively intelligent people, and it seems like they would be able to develop a slightly better therapeutic system. also, they have medical teams, why not real therapy teams? i also don’t really care about the murder mystery aspect at all in this story, it just is so uninteresting and it takes way too long to resolve. more of the character analysis and individual hero “confessions” (even the whole comic just being those character studies) would be way cooler than the weird narrative misleading you the whole way through and then pulling a gotcha at the end. wally being the killer isn’t so much my complaint as the fact that there IS a killer in the first place. also, lois lane SUCKS in this comic! first, she is drawn so weirdly sexual, there’s one page in particular that took me out of the story so quickly because she’s posed so sexually and it’s supposed to be a serious conversation. she is so dismissive and cold about handling the sanctuary story, and it’s brushed over so quickly that lois exposes the whole jla pretty much without hesitation, and superman doesn’t give the other members of the trinity any warning. that’s my last and most glaring complaint, is that the trinity is super weak and lame in this story. they’re the backbone of the justice league!!! they are the hope of the world, and they fight together day and night, and have overcome hurdles together for years. they have such a bad dynamic in this comic, and they work poorly together. overall, the characterization seems like there are too many characters for the writers to handle them well.
worth a purchase:
i will not be adding this to my personal physical collection, because i think the problems outweigh the benefits for me. as much as i want to have major dc timeline events on my shelf, this one just doesn’t stick out to me and it is a run that i honestly wish wasn’t canon. there are still cool aspects, and it’s a big event, so i think people should read it if they want to be familiar with dc canon.
