I wonder how all of the people defending babs as "invisible disability rep" are coping now that it's clear dc has given up on portraying babs as disabled in any way at all. Feel like they let writers who wanted to do that do it just to silence criticism, then they quietly pretended it never happened

i just got my absolute batman issues #3 and #4 in the mail, and my favorite part of this run so far is probably the neighborhood relationships with harvey, nygma, and especially selina! i was considering not continuing with buying this run, but these two pages convinced me to keep on (selina’s little hoodie and the popcorn attack are you kidding!?🥺)

on comic artists:
i’ve found that a lot of times the art in my comics matters almost as much to me (sometimes more) than the stories. there are certain comics that i am willing to buy simply for the art, and others that i love the story of, but i don’t purchase because the art doesn’t stick with me. for this reason, when people are looking to start comics, it’s important you start with comics that have compelling art to you!
my personal favorites:
- dan mora (very famous in current dc art, does JLU and B/S World’s Finest currently)

very popular! i love dan mora, such a fun style and every panel feels like something you could frame!
- dustin nguyen (robin and batman)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
gorgeous watercolor style, super unique, and i love the proportions he uses on faces!
- jorge jiménez (failsafe, supersons, joker war)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
incredible, probably my favorite consistent art style. i like the mix of intensity and cartoon style in his work, and just overall iconic work done here!
- simone di meo (dc vs vampires, batman: urban legends)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
very unique, love the brush strokes (i’m not an artist don’t come at me) and the light styling! i feel like no space is unused in his art!
- overall, art is what makes comics different than books and we need to be giving artists their flowers! if you have female artists that you recommend please let me know, or others that i’ve missed! comic art is so special and enhances the story! don’t be embarrassed to buy comics for the art!

batman has gotta be one of my favorite heroes only because he’ll go through the most borderline traumatic series of events possible where he may or may not have proved an afterlife existed just to drive away in his stupid fucking batcar with his stupid fucking bat ears peeking out

comics i’ve read and loved lately:
- batman: the killing joke
this was the first batman comic i picked up as a tween, and it blew my mind. the gritty, scary style was right up my alley and completely changed what i thought comics were. the final page lives in my mind always, and the final joke + batman laughing haunts me. also, the injury of barbara gordon! what a pivotal moment for her (i am deeply disappointed by the decision to not have her stay as oracle). a great standalone read, a great read with the context of batman, a great read if you are just an enjoyer of great writing. 100% recommend.
- DCeased
this was a more recent read, but i love elseworld comic stories. this comic especially was heartfelt and showed the empathy that the heroes have for each other and for the earth in crisis. it’s a bleak storyline, but there is still hope throughout and that’s the beauty of the characters. before i read this comic, damian al-ghul wayne was probably the least on-my-radar robin. however, his characterization in this run is fantastic and i was torn to shreds by him over and over again. his and jon’s relationship is precious (as always (why is jon aged up again?)). definitely would recommend.
- batman & robin: batman reborn!
the story of dick grayson taking up the mantle of batman, essential reading for a massive change in the batfam. damian and dick’s early relationship, learning together, and some jason thrown in there, it’s a great read.
- superman: son of kal-el
jon kent as superman (unfortunately after his aging up, but still great), a really nice art style by john timms. some crossover with nightwing by tom taylor, a wholesome comic. not the most interesting of stories per se, but it’s really the only glimpse into jon as the main character we get, and he’s just such a sweet boy. the art is the best part of this for me!
- detective comics #833-#834
the backstory of bruce wayne and zatanna’s friendship. a great team up between them too with a crazy trick by joker. love the bat and zat’s relationship in this, and it shows bruce’s willingness to see his errors and his care for his friends(some comic writers do not understand this aspect of him). the first comic that got me into zatanna!

welcome to my blog! i’ve loved comics since i was a kid, and have recently started working on a collection of my own! i see people asking all the time how you “get in” to comics and how to start, so i’m creating a place where i log how i’ve “gotten in” to show that anyone can do it!
my favorite characters (who i’ll be reading the most of):
- batman & co. (i started with the batfam, like lots of new dc fans right now. i watched a LOT of teen titans and TTG as a kid, and my dad loved the christopher nolan movies, ergo i am an og batman & robin girl)
who i’m trying to get into:
- zatanna zatara
- john constantine
- the flash (specifically wally west)
- superman family (specifically jon kent)
posts to come: my reading list, comics i’ve read and loved
thanks for being here!
