Where are Veilguard characters LINES IN THE SAND. they're all so almost-interesting but where do they DRAW THE LINE. what will they turn on the player for? Even Alistair, sweet kind Alistair, will turn on you Like That if you even suggest not killing Loghain. Anders will Never Compromise on his view on mages and templars and will always blow up the chantry. Viv can like you but she will NOT be talked around to your opinion on mages even if you start as many fights as you can. Merrill WILL NOT kill mages for you. Sebastian cannot continue to support you if you let Anders live. Where is the line Bioware? I helped destroy Neves city and all she was was mildly pissy. Wheres the hatred? Where's the line?

so much of the horror genre is informed by the metaphor of queer/transness as monstrousness. especially emphasizing the amount of horror that depends on the audience's repulsion at seeing a human body changing into a new, other body. I Saw the TV Glow is about the horror of NOT transitioning. the horror of static. the horror of looking into yourself and being terrified of what you see. the horror of seeing who you are and choosing to do nothing about it. the horror of looking away. and by god is it terrifying.

Ok also I think the reason I Saw The TV Glow is so powerful (and everyone is making jokes like it got them to start hrt) even beyond its fundamental message of hope and There Is Still Time etc is because as a trans person there are so many people and medias that will ask you the question What If You're Faking It. What If It's Not Real. And ISTVG is the first media I've seen that asks What If You're Not? What if you're not and you keep going on like this?
And it gives that question a name and a physical presence and a weight and an aesthetic and a horror. It's like TV static. It's like falling asleep on the car ride home. It's like living with a light inside you crawling to get out. It's like suffocating to death. It follows that thought to its logical conclusion and, in a frankly extremely painful and hard-to-watch but deeply needed way, excruciatingly draws out what that looks like. Suspended animation. Stasis. A life that is not your life.
It says that choosing not to transition is still a choice.

i got out of the theater 5 hours ago and i'm still sitting here thinking about i saw the tv glow like the entire concept of a horror movie that's not truly a horror movie until the very last scene. the concept of a horror movie where the horror is not a literal monster or a monster as metaphor for the self the horror is literally just the self and the damage done to oneself when you refuse a fundamental part of your identity. and how part of the horror isn't just the damage done to yourself but also to the people who can relate to you and who love and want to help you. but also that little glimmer of hope in "there is still time" because even just looking into the heart of yourself in the mirror is a step forward, even if you take two steps back immediately after. like the horror in hope and the hope in horror and how the whole reason horror is even a thing is because of the existence of hope (and its failure) god this movie is SO good i need to watch it again immediately.

da2 had a lot of flaws but i wish it's reception had been warmer because there's one thing i think it absolutely got right: shifting the location and telling a low-stakes story (by the standards of the next two installments with its world-ending crises i mean). i think they could have gone on like that for more games.
da3: move to orlais and stay grounded to orlais and expand this one country's situation intimately, centering the civil war and the game.
da4: move to antiva and do the same. tell a story with assassin intrigue, the crows, sinister plots from behind shadows...
da5: move to rivain, or tevinter, or anderfels or...
easy way to have a new protagonist, new cast, and new lore each time without having to deal with past player choices too deeply but still leaving plenty of room for cameos and easter eggs

ok i have mentally recovered from watching it and i have to say what i love best about i saw the tv glow is what a good and visceral metaphor it had for transness. i am so tired of queer metaphors being just 'and the queer person is a monster/mutant/some other type of dangerous thing but misunderstood :(('
don't get me wrong those metaphors have their uses but they don't always hit for me. there's so much more to say about our experiences and more interesting ways to say them than just the misunderstood monster thing

Hi!!! I just finished re-reading one of your absolutely amazing one shots on ao3 (The Naruto Midoriya one to be specific~) and I was just wondering if you had any kind of policy or something on peeps possibly expanding on the idea? Or even using some concepts as inspiration for their own fics? If not, it’s all chill, loved it all the same!!
omg thank you, i'm glad you liked my lil fic so much!! and yes ofc you can write your own spin on it, it's literally what fanfic is for haha. if you're posting on ao3, i'd love it if you used the 'inspired by' feature so that i can find and read it but no worries otherwise ❤️
