About the ship ask game! I'm curious, what's an unpopular opinion that you have about Okohoshi??

I'll follow the proper format this time since I couldn't for the last one ^^;;

OkoHoshi: Needless to say, I ship it!!!

What made you ship it?

I simply loved them from their very first scene together! I also love them as individuals - the kansai-ben squinty guy, nerdy glasses girl... they're some of my favorite archetypes, so it was pretty much inevitable.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

I love the silly guy x serious girl dynamic! Swords and science! The detective and his trusty aide! Digging deeper, I love that Okonogi is Hoshina's main line of support within the JAKDF. She's always the one in his ear during battle. I love having a pairing where one is on the front lines and the other takes on a support role, trusting them to come back in the end.

If Hoshina's a sword then Okonogi's his sheath - the place he returns to after cutting loose.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Now onto the thing you're curious about. It's not about the ship itself exactly, and I'm not sure if it's really unpopular, but...

OkoHoshi doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of becoming canon, because Hoshina is way too popular. Whether it's a properly developed romance or not, I don't see his more ardent fans (or those who make money off them) quietly agreeing to him have a canon love interest at this point - especially not Okonogi.

And that's an opinion I think some people may take issue with lol

OkoHoshi Week Day 7: Marriage

I got it done, I got it done! Just by the skin of my teeth >///<;;;

I think they'd have a traditional Shinto wedding with Okonogi wearing a white Shiromuku, but then for the reception party she'd change into a colourful uchikake, and then a comfortable party dress later into the evening...

I didn't have much time to make stuff, so I just threw this together. It isn't great, but it's what I got. Anywhozzles~ since I've missed out on posting all week, this piece will fall under the prompts for living together, movie night, and marriage. Kinda grasping at straws for a couple of those, but it still fits.

Okonogi has more photos of Hoshina... Why? 🧡💜

Okonogi is in charge of the PR photos, and it seems she has a favorite. The franchise has touched on this topic about 3 times.

This post includes bonus content from Vol 1 of "Kaiju no 8 Relax". in case you are interested or don't want to see it until you get it on your own.

The first ending doesn't tell us much but It's curious.

The place where Hoshina trains seems different from the one in the anime, which is a more common area training room, while this one seems like a Dojo, another location or private. You can see a place in the back where you could put two swords. I dare say it's private. How would he react to these photos?

In "Minute! Kaiju no 8" (#13) we have another conversation between Okonogi and Soshiro about this.

Hoshina sees Okonogi worried. She's undecided about which photos to choose for the press, but she's certain of one. The first one she suggests is Hoshina's—what a coincidence, right? It seems that she likes that photo.

He doesn't seem bothered by her taking photos without him noticing but he rejects the idea because of the shadows and feels embarrassed. Okonogi's disappointed face at this is adorable. It's like : 🥺 💔.

The topic of the photos Okonogi owns comes up AGAIN in Kaiju no.8 Relax.

Chapter 4 of "Relax" is about getting pictures of Hoshina with his eyes open. This doesn't go well... but in this Omake from Volume 1, she says she actually has photos.

She has printed photos... in a box, and there's a lot of them.

Basically, she's admiring the photos with Kafka and Kikoru. She even blushes, and I wonder why. Even without a translation of this, the situation is "suspicious" and automatic translators only give me more questions.

He really let her take a lot of photos of him. They make it clear with a very particular one.

The translations I get definitely don't help me here to avoid Shipping. Okonogi highlights this photo as if it were the best or the vice-captain's sex appeal (?). This implies that he knows and feels comfortable with her taking this photo.

What is this level of trust they have in each other?

Why does she blush if they're only talking about him?

Why does Okonogi invite others to come back whenever they want? Why does she hide the photos in a drawer, inside a box, and only his? like she has a secret or treasure.

Why does she have so many?

Let's assume this content isn't 100% canon, and yet... why mention this so much?

OkoHoshi Week Day 4: High School AU

Okonogi and Hoshina on Day Duty! In Japan, students have to clean the classrooms after class and it's their turn.

Assuming I got all my formatting right, the blackboard writing reads as follows:

March 27th (Thursday) Day Duty Hoshina, Okonogi

Hoshina's drawn an ai ai gasa between their names, aka love love umbrella. It may be a bit old fashioned nowadays(?) but to give a Western equivalent, it's like drawing a heart around you and your crush's names! A magic charm to make you get together.

I have Some Thoughts about this AU, so I'll put them under the cut!

To get away from his family in Kyoto, Hoshina transfers to a school in Yokohama as soon as he turns 16 (since that's when students can live alone in Japan, with parental approval.) Despite transferring so late in the year he quickly becomes the star of the Kendo Club, and so his teammates - the upperclassmen especially - are a bit spiteful towards him. But he only joined so he could use the on-site dojo freely, so it doesn't really bother him... is what he says.

Okonogi is in the Broadcasting Club, where she and others host sessions over the school PA system. The Seven School Mysteries are a popular topic of discussion for Okonogi's corners and she always makes sure to congratulate other clubs on their hard work, like the Kendo Club. Hoshina takes note of the cute voice praising him, and after a month or so of sleuthing around he's is happy to discover she was in his class all along!

Okonogi isn't shy per se, but she tends to keep quiet reading mystery novels or practicing math drills when she's not thinking up new broadcasting topics. Her quiet time has become not so quiet since Hoshina noticed her presence though. The other girls have even started giving her dirty looks... it's a pain.

She braids her hair because 'that's the only way I can get it to look decent', but by second year Hoshina will convince her to not bother with all that and just wear her hair down. Because she looks cuter that way!! Not because the braids remind him of his brother or anything. Definitely not.

Aaaand that's probably enough rambling for now ^^;;; maybe I'll write about them more some other time!

@okohoshiweek Day 3: Role Reversal

I'm not sure if this fits the prompt, but I sketched this in a fit of passion after finishing season 1 of Kaiju No. 8 back in January ("Sorry, Okonogi, you ain't rid of me yet!"), and then it was so long before I had free time to ink and color that I decided to just wait and shoehorn it into the ship week.

Everyone in this show is cute and shippable, but I'm always a sucker for Awkward Nerdy Girl x Goofy Guy

Hoshina's character trailer highlights Okonogi directly

They point out that they are a "Manzai" style duo!

Trailers focusing on the virtues, backgrounds, and essential aspects of several characters have been released.

As a nice coincidence, Hoshina's happened at the beginning of Okohoshi week. In order to describe him, they needed three scenes where Okonogi is with him. One of them makes it clear how Okonogi is someone important when you are talking about Hoshina.💜🧡

I noticed kanjis for Okonogi's name. It's not perfect... but I got curious and used some automatic translators. They usually give me something like this:

Manzai It's a style of Japanese comedy in which two comedians perform together. Comedians often speak in Kansai dialect. Soshiro speaks this way, and we love it.

Konomi is Tsukkomi, the straight woman who maintains her composure in the situation by being smarter and reasonable. Soshiro plays the role of Bokke. He's the funny man, the jokester.

They're obviously not comedians. it's a way of describing the type of relationship they have and and how relevant this is to the character in question. This only makes clear how close they are. You don't get that kind of synergy with just any coworker, and some romantic couples also seem like comedy duos

Do you also think Okonogi is an essential part of Hoshina's character? I believe it because of shipp, how I interpret the facts of the story and the PR of this anime only feeds my ideas.
