SVA Students Work To Promote Stapleton with Historic Tappen Park Community Partnership
Recently, students from the School of Visual Arts Impact! Design for Social Change program collaborated with the Historic Tappen Park Community Partnership to create a series of promotional concepts to connect new and old sections of Stapleton, as the Staten Island neighborhood experiences investment and development tied to the Bay Street corridor rezoning plan.
The student team walked the commercial corridor, interviewed residents and local business owners, and researched impactful projects in other areas of the city and country to come up with a series of marketing campaign materials, games, and way-finding signage to connect residents across the entire Stapleton neighborhood. At the end of the two weeks of research and project design, the students presented their design solution to members of the Historic Tappen Park Community Partnership’s board of directors and other partners.
SBS partners with the School of Visual Arts to connect Impact! Design for Social Change student teams with community-based organizations to creatively design events or campaigns that highlight and enliven a neighborhood. Community-based organizations collaborate with the student teams to come up with a project, campaign, or promotional materials for the organization to use in addressing their most pressing challenges.

Anchored by a wordmark that divides "Meatpacking District" into two different typefaces, it suggests a neighborhood with multiple personalities: equal parts ritzy and wild.
