Chapter 18-Take me to the place where you go, where nobody knows if it’s night or day
Sans glanced at his brother as they made their way to Undyne’s house.
“How’s that wound treatin’ ya?” He asked.
Papyrus looked down at his chest that had a small bandage on it, before looking back at the latter.
“IT IS ALRIGHT,” Papyrus riposter with honesty. “ALTHOUGH, I AM SORRY THAT I PASSED OUT WHILE STILL ON THE LINE.”
Sans chuckled softly, “It’s alright, bro, don’t worry ‘bout it.”
You’re okay, that’s all that matters.
Once the duo reached Undyne’s house, the fish monster opened the door when Sans’ fist was in mid-air, about to knock, startling both him and Papyrus.
Undyne looked stressed, which was a very rare mood to see her in.
When her eyes landed upon Papyrus, she leaned in for a quick and gentle hug, startling the taller skeleton even further.
Before he could return the embrace, however, Undyne quickly pulled away while blushing slightly.
“How’re ya feelin’, nerd?” She asked in the most upbeat tone she could manage in this situation.
“GOOD, THANK YOU, UNDYNE.” Papyrus smiled in return.
Undyne snorted, before pointing behind her. “The others are just inside. Come on in.”
Papyrus and Sans walked inside, Undyne shutting the door behind both of them.
They entered the kitchen to see Toriel and Alphys sitting there, each with cups of tea.
Noticing the duo, Alphys spoke.
“Th-Th-There you two are! P-Papyrus, h-how are you f-f-feeling?”
“BETTER.” Papyrus grinned, but it faltered after a minute. “I AM SO SORRY...THIS IS ALL MY FAULT...”
“Paps” Sans said warningly. “You couldn’t have known. Stop.”
“Sans is right,” Toriel agreed. “All that matters is both of you are safe.”
“Yeah, nerd, don’t be so hard on yourself. It’s not a big deal, as long as you’re okay.” Undyne chimed in.
Papyrus smiled once more, stronger this time, “NYEH...THANK YOU.”
“The question is,” Sans muttered, “How’re we gonna assure the same for the kid?”
Alphys’ face darkened. “I-I-I h-have b-been m-m-monitoring th-their progress....th-through cameras..”
“You watch the little dude through creepy cameras all over?” Undyne repeated, and Alphys reddened instantly.
“Th-Th-Their journey I-intrigued m-me l-like some k-kind of a-anime, alright??” She defended bashfully.
She sighed before continuing, “A-Anyway...I-I-I’m s-sorry t-to report...that he—no, she’s—already committed multiple m-m-murders. At l-l-least twenty so f-f-far...”
Everyone in the room gaped.
ANGER and DREAD filled Sans’ soul.
“Fuck...” he muttered under his breath.
“Oh my...” Toriel murmured, tears filling her eyes.
Papyrus whimpered, standing closer to Sans.
Undyne clenched her fists, “Damn it,” she growled. “But how do we stop this, Al??”
Alphys frowned deeply, taking her glasses off and dusting them off with her coat before placing them back on.
“F-F-From what I-I-I’ve noticed, Ch-Chara h-has g-g-gained f-full control o-of the sh-shared v-vessel b-between h-her a-and Fr-Frisk.”
“Which means?” Undyne urged impatiently.
“Wh-Wh-Which m-means, th-the ch-chances o-of Fr-Frisk r-regaining f-full c-control o-of the v-vessel, a-as of n-now, i-is v-very l-low to z-zero. H-Her D-DETERMINATION I-Is j-j-just t-too strong. St-Sronger th-than his. A-As m-much as I h-hate sa-saying I-It, th-the most w-we can d-do is w-wait, a-and hope Fr-Frisk f-finds a way to g-g-get the u-upper h-hand. I k-know n-none of you like I-It, b-but th-there’s n-nothing élse w-we can do. A-At th-this point, it’s b-between h-him and h-her. I-In f-f-fact, it’s a-always been.”
“Knowin’ Frisk,” Sans started, “He’s a smart kid. As reckless and overly self-sacrificing as he can be, one thing he ain’t is stupid. He’ll wait until the time is right. But cameras aren’t gonna be enough to watch them at this point. We need someone looking after him, following him. And I’ll be the one to do it.”
Papyrus threw him an apprehensive look. “BUT SANS...IT’S DANGEROUS.”
“Never stopped me before, did it?” Sans grinned, winking at him. “I’ll be fine, Paps. Don’t worry. You’ve gotten hurt enough. You stay behind with the others.”
“Sans,” Toriel murmured. “Are you sure about this?”
Sans nodded. “I made a promise to ya, didn’t I? And actually, I made a promise not too long ago to the kid, too. So yeah, ‘course I’m sure.”
Toriel grinned tearfully. “Sans...thank you. And be careful.”
“Dont do anything stupid.” Undyne told him.
“B-Be c-c-careful.” Alphys added.
Sans said his goodbyes to everyone before teleporting away.
Hang in there, kiddo. I know you can win against her.

Ch. 17 CONT.
“Papyrus!” Frisk’s voice rang out, startling said skeleton out of his trance.
“Y—YES, HUMAN?” Papyrus answered as heroically as he could despite the looming apprehension he felt. “THE GREAT PAPYRUS HEARS YOU AND IS AT YOUR SERVICE. WHAT IS IT YOU NEED?”
“Can you please come up here?”
Papyrus hesitates, “IS EVERYTHING ALRIGHT?”
“Papyrus, please. Come up.”
“....A-AS YOU WISH. I WILL BE RIGHT UP.”
Papyrus gradually began his trip toward and up the stairs, feeling oddly tense.
Once he reached the human’s room, he timidly lowered the force shield and stepped inside, raising it back up behind him.
Eyes adjusting to the darkness, Papyrus noticed Frisk curled up on his bed, knees pulled up to his chest and facing away from him.
“FR-FRISK?” Paps asked quietly. “ARE YOU ALRIGHT?”
No response.
“Y-YOU KNOW, SANS HAS BEEN PRETTY WORRIED ABOUT YOU...PLEASE TELL ME THAT THERE’S NO REASON FOR HIM TO BE?”
When Frisk finally spoke up, it gave Papyrus chills.
“Awe, bonehead’s worried about me?” Frisk asked, then chuckled deeply. “How sweet.”
Papyrus frowned.
Frisk has never called Sans “bonehead” before, not even when joking.
At least not yet.
Before Papyrus could approach him on it, “Frisk” beat him to the punch.
“You know,” The small human continued, turning slightly. “I have been thinking...what would it be like? If I got this world...all to myself...would be pretty nice, as one would imagine...but then I realized...”
Ice cold DREAD settled itself in Papyrus’s SOUL when not soft brown, but hard red eyes met his.
“....I can’t do that if you all are still breathing”
Papyrus barely registered what was happening until it was too late.
Not Frisk lunged at the tall skeleton, and while letting out a yelp of fear Papyrus quickly lowered the force shield and tried to make his way out of the room.
A rough yank at the scarf (Sans was right, he really should have adjusted it so it wasn’t so long) gagged Papyrus, and he felt a sharp, warm and stinging pain on the back of his “battle body” before he face planted onto the floor.
Looking up blearily, vision slightly hazy, he noticed the cocky smirk of the child standing in front of him.
She spoke, “Thanks for the escape route, you useless idiot.”
Not Frisk then proceeded to run out of the room, with Papyrus feeling helpless and completely powerless to stop her.
Sitting up, he felt something warm running down his back.
He reached behind, and when he pulled his hand back it was covered in the liquid.
Blood.
Papyrus swallowed.
This was fine, it’s just a scratch.
But the child...Sans....
.....Sans.
He needed to get through to Sans. He needed to tell his brother what happened.
With what strength that still remained, he quickly pulled out his phone and dialed his brother’s number.
Luckily, the lazybones picked up on the first ring, unlike most times where Papyrus would have to call him over and over to the point where he felt like screaming at his brother in anger when he finally picked up.
Not like that would do much.
“Oh hey, great timing. Listen bro, I’m stumped. Which box of crackers did you say—“
”S-SANS,” Papyrus cut him off weakly. “I NEED TO TELL YOU SOMETHING, AND I’M SO SORRY.”
“.............”
”SANS?”
”..Yeah ‘m here, sorry. Perception went bad for a minute there. And what do you mean? ‘Sup? Are you okay? The kid?”
“TH—THAT’S WHAT I’M CALLING ABOUT. SANS, SHE...SHE TRICKED ME.”
”What? Holy—are you okay? What happened??”
“SHE CALLED ME UP PRETENDING TO BE FRISK...THEN SHE LUNGED AT ME...AND I DO NOT COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND IT, BUT I THINK THAT SHE HAS FULL CONTROL AND SOMETHING BAD HAS HAPPENED TO FRISK.”
“Did she hurt you??”
“YES, IT IS ONLY A SMALL WOUND BUT I BELIEVE IT IS BLEEDING PRETTY BADLY.”
“Fucking hell—stay on the line with me, will ya? I’m comin’ home.”
“OKAY.” Papyrus replies tiredly.
The younger skeleton did his best to stay on the line with Sans as the older cursed a lot angrily about the whole situation.
His vision began tunneling.
Sans noticed his absence on the line and spoke somewhat urgently, “Paps? Pap, are ya there? Stay with me, bro! Papyrus!”
Papyrus tried to answer his brother, but found that he couldn’t as dizziness took over and he lost his grip on consciousness.
He dropped his phone, and fell to the floor for a second time.

Chapter 17-Engaged in crime I grasp my throat
“Sorry, kiddo.”
Frisk looked up from his spot on his bed.
Sans stood inside the room in front of the doorway, magical shield standing strong behind him.
The skeleton wore an expression that Frisk couldn’t read.
Frisk looked away and shifted uncomfortably, “Why do you keep saying that?”
A pause.
“.....I dunno,” The short skeleton finally answered with a small shrug. “It’s just...I can tell that being locked up in this room bothers ya.”
“It would bother anyone, Sans.” Frisk muttered quietly.
Sans’ frown deepened, and he shifted his weight, leaning against the doorway.
“You know what I mean,” Sans stated. “I can tell that it bothers ya more than it would bother most, Frisk.”
Frisk swallowed, “I don’t like talking about it.”
“I get that. I just don’t wanna see ya suffer in silence, ya know? I’ve had to see it enough. Me and Paps, we’re here, but we can’t be here if you don’t want us to be. Ya get that?”
Frisk nodded.
“‘Kay,” Sans hummed as he turned his back on the small child. “I’ll see ya when I bring up din—“
“Wait” Frisk blurted abruptly. “I’m really not being punished, right?”
Sans pauses, then asks in a rather perplexed tone, “Why would I be punishing you? You haven’t done anything wrong.”
“Well, technically—“
“Hey.” Sans cut him off sternly while scowling. “Stop right there. That was her, not you. There’s a difference. Everyone knows that now, Frisk.”
“I know...” Frisk mumbles, looking down. “I guess I just—never mind.”
Sans hesitated before walking over and raising his hand, lowering it to ruffle Frisk’s hair lightly.
“You’re gonna get through this, kid,” he said softly. “I know ya will. I’m rootin’ for ya. And when this whole thing is over, no more hiding stuff, okay?”
“Okay, Sans.”
It had been three days so far since he’s had much contact with Papyrus or Sans.
He knew he was doing this for the safety of the Underground, but...
It still felt like some sort of cruel punishment.
Frisk swallowed, shaking his head roughly.
No.
He had to get those thoughts out of his head.
It was for the sake of everyone’s safety, after all.
He can handle this.
...Hopefully.
The small child sat there for a while longer, silently, doing his best not to think about too much.
Until eventually, his mind flew onto Chara.
It wasn’t like her not to reach out like this.
She would at least call out to taunt him, but no.
Nothing.
...Was she okay?
Sighing, Frisk began to lay down on his pillow.
He knew he shouldn’t be doing this, but...
As he slowly faded out of consciousness, he knew it was too late to go back now.
When he opened his eyes again, he was met with a familiar black void staring back at him.
Sitting up and getting to his feet, he swallowed.
His SOUL was resonating with FEAR.
“Chara?” He called out hoarsely, not trusting his voice.
No response.
“I know you’re here, Chara. Come out.”
“My my, Frisk, how perceptive you’ve grown during this timeline.” Came a voice from behind him.
Frisk whipped around to see Chara standing only a few inches away from him, a glint of mischievous glee shining in her deep red eyes, arms folded across her chest.
“Wh—“ Frisk started, a lump lodging itself in his throat. “What have you been doing, Chara?”
“Oh,” Chara hummed. “You know, the usual. ...Actually Frisk, I have been thinking about what you have said, and you know what? You are right.”
Frisk blinked. “I am?” He uttered apprehensively.
“But of course! After all,” Chara giggles, winking at him. “Violence is never the answer, am I right? I can not get you all to listen by threat, correct? If that is the case...”
Chara, who had turned her back on the latter, suddenly looked back at him with a shadow cast over her face and a red glint shining throw the shadow, “Then I will have to do it with action”
Eyes widening, Frisk quickly backed up to retreat. “Ch—“
He was cut off with a sharp gag, as he felt something strike through his stomach.
Gasping, he fell to the ground, clutching at his stomach in agony.
Chara stood behind him, bloody knife in hand and smirk plastered across her face.
“Tsk tsk tsk,” Chara uttered as she knelt down to the writhing Frisk, “Look what it had to come to, Frisk. Attacking my own partner. You could have listened, but no, you chose the hard way. Now you are going to have to watch your precious friends die. What a shame.”
A pause, “Oh, do not worry. The pain will not last for long. After all, here in the mind scape, all wounds are healed. However...”
Chara snapped her fingers, and in a heartbeat Frisk was confined in a bloody mass, holding him down and preventing him from moving or escaping.
“...I can’t have you trying to regain control, now can I?” Chara finished and cackled maliciously.
“Ch—Chara, please,” Frisk begged. “It doesn’t have to be this way. We can talk about this.”
“Shut up!” Chara snarled. “You had your chance, and you threw it away! Now it’s my turn.”
“No!” Frisk called out as Chara turned her back on him and began walking away. “Please! They didn’t do anything wrong, Chara, don’t hurt them!”
Chara smirked back at him a final time, “Sorry, Frisk. But it is not your call anymore. No hard feelings, hm, partner~?”
She disappeared without another word.
————————————————————————-
Papyrus hummed a soft tune to himself as he stood in the kitchen, making his sixth pot of spaghetti.
He had to admit, there were many things that the tall skeleton admired about Frisk, but perhaps one of the things he loved most about the small child was Frisk’s love for his spaghetti.
In his past two years of cooking lessons with Undyne, he’s never seen someone enjoy his food so much.
It made Papyrus so happy.
Despite his joy, he couldn’t help but feel slightly apprehensive at the same time.
Sans looked pretty worried before he left to get some groceries that Papyrus had demanded him to get off his bed and go retrieve.
A minute before he walked out the door, he mentioned to Papyrus how the atmosphere felt...odd.
Noy uncomfortable, not scary or creepy, just...odd.
Papyrus asked his older brother what he meant.
Though, Sans really didn’t explain much past that as it was apparently “hard to explain”.
The last thing that the shorter skeleton told him before he went on his way was “You and the kid be careful”.
Now what was that supposed to mean?
Was something bad going to happen?
If that was the case, Papyrus genuinely regretted sending Sans on that trip now.
He felt so much more safe whenever his brother was around, for if something bad were to happen, he wasn’t so sure he’d be able to handle it alone.

Chapter 16-And you’ve got your demons and darling they all look like me
“...So what we’re hearing is, the crazy brat’s trying to regain control? That it, kiddo?”
Frisk nodded, clenching at his mug of hot chocolate tightly.
Sans glanced at his brother who gazed back at him apprehensively.
“AND THEN SHE TRIED TO DROWN YOU, HUMAN?” Papyrus asked, shivering at the mere thought of anything happening to the small child and feeling guilty for not being there to protect him.
Not on the great Papyrus’s watch.
Frisk nodded once again, mutely whilst taking a sip of his hot chocolate.
“ARE YOU OKAY NOW? YOU DON’T FEEL SICK FROM SUCH COLD EXPOSURE YESTERDAY, DO YOU?”
Frisk shook his head, “No, I’m okay. It just...startled me, that’s all.”
“You and me both,” Sans huffed, grabbing hold of Frisk’s shoulders. “Look kiddo, how’s about you go upstairs for a few? Me and Paps need to discuss something. I’ll call ya back down when we’re done.”
Frisk smiled, “Mkay, Sans.” He uttered and grabbed his mug, walking off and beginning his trip upstairs.
Once Frisk was out of hearing range, Sans turned to the taller skeleton.
“Shit, Paps...I don’ know anymore...what’re we gonna do ‘bout this?” He muttered, slumping forward in his seat.
Papyrus let out a sad sigh, “I WISH I HAD THE ANSWERS, BROTHER, BUT UNFORTUNATELY I AM JUST AS STUMPED AS YOU ARE.”
“..The kid almost drowned, Paps.”
”I KNOW.”
“He could have died. Again.”
“I KNOW.”
“I jus’...” Sans sighed, running his hand over his skull almost as if pushing back non-existent hair. “How’re we gonna do this?”
It was silent for a few minutes, as the two skeletons helplessly thought over how to deal with the issue at hand.
Papyrus spoke up after a minute, apprehensively, “I....MAY HAVE A PLAN...”
Sans sat up slightly, looking at him a little eagerly, “Really?”
“Y—YES,” Papyrus continues, fidgeting with his scarf, an old habit of his. “BUT I’M NOT REALLY SURE IF YOU OR THE HUMAN ARE GOING TO LIKE IT.”
Sans’ brow bones narrowed. “Maybe not, but at this point we’re willin’ ta try anythin’. We’re practically outta options, Paps.”
“I KNOW, I KNOW. ....WELL, HERE IT IS, THEN. WHAT IF YOU USE YOUR MAGIC?”
Sans blinked, rather taken aback at this. “..My magic? What’re you gettin’ at, dude?”
“WELL, PERHAPS TRY TO USE IT AS SOME KIND OF SHIELD. WHAT I MEAN IS, A WALL IN FRONT OF HIS ROOM PREVENTING HIM FROM GOING OUT. SINCE HE HAS NO MAGIC, IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR HIM TO PASS THROUGH. ONLY YOU AND I WOULD BE ABLE TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE BARRIER-LIKE STRUCTURE, REASON BEING TO BRING HIM MEALS. PERHAPS IT WILL WORK FOR A WHILE UNTIL WE MANAGE TO CALM THIS WILD FIRE OF A PROBLEM. AND IF HE NEEDS ANYTHING, HE CAN JUST CALL ONE OF US.”
Sans gazed at him for a minute, speechless and processing what his brother had just told him.
The shorter skeleton inhaled and exhaled evenly before muttering after a minute, “Ya know what? With all honesty, I hate that idea but...it may be our best bet. At least for now.”
His frown deepened, “Poor kid. He’s not gonna like being confined like some kinda insane criminal.”
Papyrus whimpered, squeezing Sans’ shoulders, “IT WILL JUST BE TEMPORARY, BROTHER.”
“Yeah yeah, I know,” Sans huffed, before swallowing and calling out, “Hey kid, you can come down now!!”
After a minute, the small child emerged walking down the stairs and toward the two skeletons.
“I—Is everything okay?” He asked softly in a somewhat timid tone.
Sans and Papyrus glanced at each other, then back at Frisk with disappointed looks.
Frisk frowned at this. “What’s wrong?”
Sans spoke, “Listen kid, we might have thought up a temporary solution to keep that crazy killer inside of you at bay. At least for a little bit.”
“Really?” Frisk asked. “But that’s great, isn’t it? Why do you guys look upset about it?”
“Because we’re doing something we really hate to do, but have no choice. You’re a great kid, buddy, and in no way are we punishing you or angry at you. But me and Paps decided that the best option right now is ta keep ya confined in yer room. I’m gonna put up a magical barrier in front of your doorway that only Papyrus and I can lower and raise, and I’m gonna do the same with the windows just in case. Basically we’re choppin’ off all exit points if she tries ta take control, so that way if she decides to, she can’t go anywhere. I’m sorry kiddo, but you understand, don’t cha?”
Frisk gazed at him colorlessly.
Confined in his room?
Frisk sobbed, pounding on the door repeatedly, desperately. “Please...let me out...please...I’m sorry, I’m sorry...I won’t do it again, I swear, please...I want out...I’ll be good, I promise...please let me out....”
“Frisk?”
A light shake brought him back to reality.
He stared at two now concerned expressions.
GUILT filled him and he threw them a fake smile, “Y—Yeah. I understand.”
Sans raised a browbone at him, “Ya do?”
“ARE YOU SURE, HUMAN?” Papyrus asked.
“Totally. We’re doing this because of Chara, not because of me and it’s what’s best for the rest of the Underground. I get it. It’s fine.”
Sans pulled Frisk slightly closer to him by the arm and gazed into the child’s dark eyes, as if searching for something.
Finally he muttered, “Are ya sure you’re okay with this?”
Frisk’s happy-go-lucky mask fell at this, and he shakily murmured, “No....but we don’t have a choice.”
——————————————————————————
Toriel wasn’t sure why she even still bothered going to the Ruins.
After what happened with the last child, she...
She has to admit to herself, she truly wasn’t sure if she even had it in her anymore.
What’s the whole point of trying to save fallen children if they’re just going to die in the end?
She’s already had to endure seven deaths, and yet...
She still chooses to go through with the same everlasting, painful cycle.
“Oh, what am I even doing anymore..?” Toriel murmured to herself as she stepped into the familiar room.
Toriel began looking around the room.
She didn’t see anything—
Wait.
Was that...movement? In the flowers?
Taking a step closer, she noticed that there was something—no, someone—shifting.
They had short yet slightly long brown hair that stretched a little past their neck, but not by much, a sweater and—oh god.
“Chara?” Toriel spoke out ever so softly, afraid that if she approached too quickly that Chara just may disappear. “My child? Is that you?”
Flinching, the child slowly began to turn—
Toriel held her breath—
“Who’s...Chara?”
Toriel froze. When the child fully turned to her, she realized—this wasn’t her girl. In fact, this child was a young boy. Couldn’t be any older than seven. He had a golden rod complexion, she noticed upon closer inspection, and his eyes were completely closed and he was wearing a scared expression and—goodness, he was shaking.
The goat monster cleared her throat, before smiling softly, “Greetings, my child. Please do not be afraid. I am Toriel, caretaker of the Ruins. I mean you no harm, I promise you.”
She took a step closer, smile widening slightly when she saw that he didn’t flinch again or try to run off and just sit there with a slightly less scared look but still apprehensive, “May I ask your name?”
The child hesitated, before sniffing and replying, “M—My name’s Frisk.”
“Ah. You have a lovely name, little one. Would you like some help?”
Toriel was now standing in front of Frisk with an outstretched furry paw and a welcoming smile.
Finding that he couldn’t refuse, Frisk returned the smile the best that he could and took it, shakily standing as Toriel helped him to his feet.
Taking note of his state, Toriel gasped. “My child, you are skin and bones! We simply must get you some food! Tell me, do you prefer cinnamon or butterscotch?”
“I—I like both, actually.”
Toriel giggled at this as she helped the small child out of the room, her hand enlaced in his. “My, you are not very picky, are you? What a polite child you are.”
“Uhm, Ms. Toriel?”
“Yes?”
Frisk looked up at her with big, curious brown eyes. “Who’s Chara?”
Toriel paused, then murmured with a tearful smile, “She—She was one of my beloved children...nobody you should be concerned about.”
She smiled lovingly at him, “Now then, shall we go on?”

Ch. 15 CONT.
“I know, I know...what I have does not seem like much, but...I can make it work, I promise you!”
“Mom!” Frisk said again, more firmly this time and at seeing Toriel’s startled expression felt GUILT and softened his voice before continuing, “Please...I wanna go home...”
Toriel sighed shakily, “I...I know you do, my child...I...I understand...No matter how much I tell myself that what I have may be enough for me, it will never be for you and I understand that...this is no place for a boy like you to grow up...”
She gazed at the child with tears running down her cheeks, “I...I can’t even save a single child...I am a horrible mother, am I not?”
Frisk gasped, before running forward and hugging her legs tightly. “No, don’t say that! You’re a good mom, you’re the best goat mom ever!!”
Toriel chuckled at this tearfully, bending down and gathering him in her arms, giving a light squeeze. “Oh, my child..” she whimpered. “Promise me you’ll be careful..”
“I promise.”
“...Good. I love you so much.”
“I love you too.”
——————————————————————————
“—ck. Frisk, c’mon, wake up!!”
Frisk felt a hard blow to his chest, and before he knew it he was on his side and coughing up water, gagging and trembling the entire time.
When he was done, he felt a slightly shaking hand touch his back lightly.
“....Heh. Good thing I paid attention to that CPR lesson that Paps forced me to attend with him for his Royal Guard traning, huh kid?”
Frisk froze.
He turned to see Sans behind him wearing a shaky grin and troubled eyes.
GUILT filled Frisk’s SOUL and he rushed to say, “Sans, I—“
Sans held up a hand, silencing the child, “Don’t. Okay? Just don’t. Shit kid, you’re soaked, ya must be freezing.”
Sans took off his hoodie and wrapped it around the drenched child, making sure to pull the hood up.
Frisk frowned, “But what about you?” He asked through chattering teeth.
Sans threw him a look, “I’m a skeleton, remember, bucko? I don’t have nerves. Now c’mon, let’s get you back, Paps is worried sick.”
Frisk didn’t say anything else, merely nodding and allowing Sans to guide him back to the skeletons’ house, the trip being silent the whole time.
Once they arrived in the door, Papyrus practically threw his arms around the trembling child and exclaiming tearful things such as, “HUMAN, YOU’RE SAFE! DON’T MAKE US WORRY LIKE THAT!” and other comments among those lines.
Sans made Frisk take a shower to warm up and make sure he didn’t catch Hypothermia due to his exposure to such cold waters for such an extended period of time.
Once he got out, he noticed that Papyrus was nowhere to be seen.
“Paps went to lay down in bed, kid,” Sans commented from his place on the couch in the living room, back turned to Frisk.
“Oh,” Frisk mumbled softly. He then tried to escape to his own room, but gasped when a bone attack shooting up in front of him prevented him from doing so.
“Nuh uh. C’mere Frisk, we need ta talk.”
Frisk swallowed thickly, apprensively. He breathed out deeply before walking down the steps and making his way to the couch, sitting a few inches away from the skeleton.
Neither of them spoke up for a few minutes, avoiding each other’s gazes.
“....We’re gonna talk ‘bout what happened today.” Sans finally muttered.
“..I didn’t do—“
“I know it wasn’t you, Frisk,” Sans cut him off rather roughly. “I know it was her. And as much as that scared the livin’ shit out of me, that’s not what I wanna talk with ya about.”
“Oh..” Frisk repeated softly.
Sans let out a frustrated sigh, turning to Frisk and grabbing his shoulders, “Frisk, bucko, buddy, pal, you know I care about you, I—I’ve made it crystal clear, haven’t I??”
“Yeah..” Frisk mumbled. “Crystal..”
“Then why do ya insist on running off? Today wasn’t the first time you’ve taken advantage of a bad situation to distance yourself from us...I don’ get it...why do ya do this? What if you run somewhere where we all finally can’t follow you? Huh?? What then??”
Frisk shrugged, making an “I dunno” sound. He then shakily murmured, “I’m sorry, Sans..”
Sans sighed tiredly, pulling back and running a hand over his face, “Kid, stop apologizin’. I’m not angry, I’m just...concerned, alright? What’re you so afraid of?”
“I don’t want the genocide runs to happen again...”
Sans blinked, startled by his response. “...Who says they will?”
Frisk laughed bitterly, looking up at him through tearful eyes, “Sans, Chara tried to kill me today. And she almost suceeded. Who knows how long until she finally gains enough control to start a fresh round of killings. Maybe if I distance myself far enough, she won’t be able to hurt as many...”
Sans snorted, “Kiddo, if this other kid inside of you is as evil as you say she is, I really don’t think any distance will be able to stop her from killin’ the whole underground. ..Look, just get your head on straight and listen, alright? You’re with us now. We’re not gonna let anything bad happen, even if we have to stay up all night to make sure it doesn’t. You’ll be fine, Frisk. So no more distancing yourself, alright? And no more stupid thinking.”
Frisk nodded, leaning into the skeleton’s side, exhausted. “...Sans?”
“Mhm?”
“I’m sorry for what I said.” Frisk mumbled guiltily, “I...I don’t hate you. I’m sorry.” Small tears filled his eyes and he swallowed hard.
Sans went still. He paused before leaning back and looking Frisk in his sad eyes.
The skeleton gazed at him for a minute before throwing a small grin, “Geez kid, I know,” he said, ruffling Frisk’s hair and causing the latter to giggle. “No need ta beat yourself up so much over it. After all,”
He sighed, “I shouldn’t have said that thing about the promise. I’ve been stressed as hell these past few days, but you know, I shouldn’t have taken it out on you. Just worryin’ about the whole thing, the others, you...it costs me sleep. And yeah I don’t like promises, but...”
Sans pauses before saying genuinely, “I guess you could say that the promise I made for you is the first one I’ve ever been grateful for making.”
Frisk grins, giggling again and pushing himself closer into the skeleton’s side.
Sans runs his hands through Frisk’s locks for a minute before yawning, “Alright kid, let’s wrap it up. Papyrus is probably having trouble sleeping as well without his bedtime story.”
Frisk hops down and utters, “Hey Sans, can we have a slumber party tonight? Maybe it’ll also help Papyrus sleep better.”
Sans throws him a surprised look, “Really? It’s been a while since you’ve suggested that...”
He contemplates it before throwing his arms up nonchalantly. “I don’t see why not. Good luck getting any blankets from him.”
“Yay!”

Chapter 15-I wish I wasn’t so cold (more importantly I wish I wasn’t so alone)
Sans let out a long and drawn out sigh while sitting up on his bed.
He wasn’t able to sleep for more than five minutes.
Usually he was able to sleep for like six hours without interruption, but...
Not this time.
The skeleton just couldn’t get that argument between him and the kid out of his mind.
They both had said things they really shouldn’t have, but...
Deep down even Sans knew, what he had said was the most awful.
Without a doubt.
What kind of caretaker tells you that they wish that they never made a promise to the only mother figure you’ve ever really had (as far as Sans knew from what the kid’s told him) to look out for and care for you?
A horrible one, that’s what kind.
A horrible, callous, soulless, cruel and heartless one.
He wished more than anything to have the opportunity to take them back, but he knew it was too late.
Those words were already out in the open.
And he just knew that they hurt the kid badly.
Sans groaned, falling back on his bed whilst covering his face with his arm.
God, he was such a dick.
“SANS!!!!!!!”
Said skeleton cringed as his door slammed open, followed by a heavily breathing Papyrus.
“SANS—I—THE—OH GOD!!! I GOTTA—YOU GOTTA—WE GOTTA—OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, SANS!!!!!”
Sans sighed, lowering his arm and sitting up for the final time. “Look, Paps, can you keep—“
He stopped mid-sentence at seeing the apprehensive, anxious and scared look on his brother’s face as well as the rising tears in Pap’s eyes.
“Whoa, buddy, what’s wrong?”
“IT’S THE HUMAN!” Papyrus burst out, rushing forward and grabbing the shorter skeleton’s shoulders. “H-HE’S GONE!!”
Sans’ pupils dilated. “ What? “
“I—I WENT TO HIS ROOM TO CHECK ON HIM AND—AND—THE ROOM WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY! I T-THOUGHT THAT HE WAS HIDING SOMEWHERE ORIGINALLY, SO I CALLED OUT FOR HIM, BUT...BUT HE NEVER ANSWERED! S-SANS I CAN’T F-FIND HIM ANYWHERE, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO!? WHAT IF HE’S N-NOT SAFE, WHAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO HIM!? OH GOD SANS, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO!!?” Papyrus exclaimed worriedly.
“H-He actually left??” Sans bit out, feeling unease creep it’s way into his SOUL.
Damn it kid, if I had known that you were going to take my words literally...
”YES!” Papyrus whimpered tearfully.
Sans sat there for a minute silently, gazing into his brother’s equally frazzled face before moving and pulling his brother’s hands off his shoulders.
“Paps, you stay here,” he uttered, standing up and moving past him. “I’m gonna go out and look for the kid. I want you to stay in case he comes back.”
“AND IF HE DOES?” Papyrus called after him.
“call me.” Sans riposted before teleporting away.
——————————————————————
Frisk didn’t even know where he was anymore.
After the big and first ever blow up with Sans, he had been wandering Snowdin mindlessly.
Hell, he wasn’t sure if he was even in Snowdin anymore.
He didn’t recognize or even see any buildings.
Wrapping his arms around himself and shivering, he took note that he was in a clearing.
Nothing but trees, ice and snow awaited him.
And of course he was dumb enough to forget his jacket on the way out, so he was just walking around with his short sleeved shirt and his shorts.
He even forgot to bring his scarf with him.
God, he was so stupid and useless...
He sniffles as tears rose to his eyes...
He can’t do anything right without screwing something else up.
Chara wasn’t right about a lot of things, she wasn’t right about his newfound family being just like his old one, wasn’t right about them just wanting to use and later abuse him, but she was right about one thing.
He was nothing but a weak and useless crybaby who overeats to every little thing and messes up everything he touches.
He really was useless.
Frisk noticed a lake and walked over to it.
Kneeling down in front of it, he sighed quietly and gazed sadly into it’s ripples.
Hello, Frisk.
Eyes widening, Frisk helped in surprise and fell backwards. When he regained his bearings and slowly sat back up whilst shaking slightly, he was met with Chara gazing back at him in the reflection, shadow cast over her eyes and cocky smirk plastered across her face and leaning her cheek in her hand.
What did I tell you, Frisk? They do not want you. They do not care about you. You are just a tool to them.
Frisk glared tearfully, “Th—That‘s not true! They do care about me! It—It was my fault..” he trailed off sadly. “It’s my fault that Sans is so upset..”
Indeed it is. If it were not for you, he would be happy with his brother and his friends right now. But of course...you do not want that for him, do you?
“Of course I do! I want that for all of them!”
Chara’s smirk wavered ever so slightly.
If that is the case, then this is your last chance. Prove it; do all of them a favor and die, Frisk.
“No, Chara!” Frisk sobbed, “I told you that I’m not putting them through that anymore!”
Chara growled, scowl tugging at her lips.
Fine. Then I will do it for you.
Without warning, Chara yanked control of the vessel away from the latter causing Frisk to let out a winded grunt as he fell forward slightly.
He hissed painfully as he felt a burning sensation throughout his body.
Then, he felt a tight grip at the back of his head.
Managing to turn ever so slightly, he noticed Chara’s spirit standing there, clenching at his hair with a menacing smirk.
In the next minute, he was gagging and kicking as Chara shoved his face deep into the icy waters, and he barely got enough time to call out for help before his whole body followed in afterwards.
He kicked and struggled beneath the freezing waters, struggling to breathe and fighting to rise above and get air yet Chara still kept shoving him down with all her might.
Stop struggling, partner. This will only make it harder for both of us.
Chara...please....
Chara ignored his plea and merely pushed him down even harder with a slight growl, causing more water to fill Frisk’s throat and lower his HP more and more by the minute.
Frisk’s vision began tunneling, and as the last of his strength left him and he reached out one more time, he heard someone call his name.
Except, it wasn’t Chara.
——————————————————————
“No, my child.”
Frisk frowned, stepping back.
He gazed up at his newfound mother who looked back at him with a cold, distant look.
“Why is this so hard for you to understand? If you escape, then Asgore will kill you. Is that what you want? Well, it is not what I want. I have seen that happen to too many in the past, I refuse to lose you as well. Go up to your room, Frisk.”
Frisk whimpered, “But Mom—“
“Do not!” Toriel snapped, causing Frisk to flinch. “Do not talk back to me, little one! I am doing this to protect you, can’t—“
A sharp sob cut her off as tears filled her eyes.
“Please, Frisk...” she begged softly. “Go upstairs...”
“But Mommy...” Frisk murmurs softly, “I want to go home...”
“This is your home now!” Toriel sniffled, wiping away her tears. “Don’t you see? We can be happy here!”
“Mom...”

Undertale: No More
Chapter 14-And roaming through this darkness, I’m alive but I’m alone
________________________________
Sans was never one for making promises.
He hated making them during his childhood, and only despised them more entering adulthood.
The skeleton just despised the idea of making a promise he couldn’t keep, and having to gaze at that heartbreaking expression of that person he hurt by breaking it.
He’s seen that look at Papyrus’s face before.
More than once.
And every time he absolutely hated it.
To know that he just broke not only his baby brother’s trust but his SOUL...it was enough to make Sans’ own soul sting in agony.
Which was why after the last time, he swore to himself that he was done making promises. And he would only make them if he was certain he could keep them.
He never used “I promise”, instead using “Don’t worry ‘bout it, I got it”.
It wasn’t as assuring as a promise, but it was good enough.
And for the longest time, “good enough” worked out.
That was until he met Toriel.
“Y-You want me ta look after a human? Seriously?”
“Oh, I know that it is asking a lot, but I beg of you. I just...I want to know that they will be safe...just knowing that one person won’t try to kill them...that will be enough.”
“.....Alright. I’ll do it.”
“You—You will?”
“Yeah. After all, that sounds a lot easier than the normal amount of work I’m too lazy to do as a sentry. Just following them? Can’t be that hard.”
“Do you promise?”
“I just said I would, didn’t I?”
“Please. Promise me. It’s very important.”
“........Yeah, I promise....”
“Thank you so much....you have no idea what this means to me, it just...thank you.”
Sans sighed, leaning his head in his hand as he stood at his post in Waterfall.
He really got way in over his head with the promise he made to that old lady.
Why did he have to be so weak?
Though, watching the kid had been pretty easy so far. No trouble.
Maybe he’d be able to keep this promise.
He suddenly frowned.
Speaking of which, where was that kid?
He hadn’t seen Frisk since the child first entered Waterfall and given him a big hug before running off to explore.
Was the kid okay? Did something happen? Did Sans fuck this job up so early into the game?
...No. Maybe he was just being paranoid.
Yeah, that had to be it. He was worrying over nothing.
Yawning, he settled down to take a nap.
However, just as he closed his eyes a bone-chilling scream filled the air and Sans jumped, suddenly becoming very alert.
He stood there for a second, before a second scream was heard.
Anxious feeling settling in his SOUL and eye glowing slightly, he teleported away from his post.
“COME BACK HERE!” Undyne yelled as she raised another set of arrows and threw them at Frisk, “GET BACK HERE SO I CAN KILL YA!”
Frisk, with tears running down his cheeks, whimpered and sobbed as he hastily dodged each and every of Undyne’s attacks whilst running, much to Undyne’s chagrin.
Unfortunately, Frisk tripped over his own foot while speeding away from her attacks and fell face first onto the ground, skidding slightly in the process.
Taking note of this, Undyne barked out a booming laugh, “Ha! You clumsy moron!”
Shaking uncontrollably, Frisk sat up. Looking behind him, his heart jumped into his throat at realizing that nothing was behind him except a dead end. More tears rolled down his cheeks as he turned back and saw Undyne cornering in on him, moving closer and closer until she was right in front of him.
Undyne smirked, pointing her spear at the child, “Let’s get this over with, and don’t worry. I’ll make it as quick and painless as possible.”
Frisk whimpered, “P-Please...don’t....”
Undyne didn’t reply, and smirk growing wider she raised her spear and prepared to plunge it into Frisk’s chest, causing Frisk to cover his head with both arms ans curl in on himself.
“SAY GOODBYE!” Undyne yelled, plunging her spear down, but just as it got close to Frisk’s chest a bone attack quickly sprouted from the ground between the two, causing Undyne to lose her balance and aim and yelp in shock, the attack knocking her out of the way and onto the ground and her spear being knocked far out of her reach.
Perplexed and startled, Frisk lowered his arms and looked around for his savior. When his eyes landed on his right, JOY filled his soul as he couldn’t be more happy to see a smiling skeleton. He scrambled to get to his feet at seeing him approach.
‘Man....is Undyne gonna hand it to me...’ Sans thought bitterly, smiling when he saw the kid running towards him. “Hey, kiddo. You al—“
Sans was cut off by the sobbing child throwing himself into his chest, causing him to let out a startled grunt. Frisk sobbed into his chest, clinging to him and whimpering.
Sans snorted softly, wrapping Frisk in his arms and running one bony hand through his locks, “Hey now kid, it’s alright. You’re okay, I promise. C’mon kiddo, don’t cry. You’re safe. Nothin’ ta be scared of.”
Undyne huffed, getting to her feet and dusting herself off.
When she saw Sans consoling the small human, she growled in frustration and began walking over, “SAAAANS!” She yelled.
Frisk flinched. Sans pulled him closer, whispering something in his ear before throwing Undyne one of his permanent grins, “Undyynee! How’s it goin’? You, uhh, you seem pretty heated.”
Undyne glowered at him, “Of course I’m heated, you dumbass! You just attacked me to protect a—wait a minute—why the hell are you protecting a human!?”
Frisk looked down in embarrassment and shame.
“I—“ Sans started then sighed, grin falling. “You had to of been there, Undyne. It’s a long story.”
“ ‘Long story’ my ass! You’re supposed to be capturing humans, not protecting them! Does Papyrus know about this?”
“Yeah. He befriended the kid. And the kid’s been staying with us.”
This greatly irked Undyne, “Papyrus—befriended—are you fucking—ugh!” She cut herself off, running a hand through her hair in anger. “Listen you moron, do you have any idea how dangerous this is!? Harboring a human? Our enemy?! Do you have any idea of what the Royal Guard could do to you if they found out?! If Asgore found out!? What they could do to your brother?!”
Sans threw her a nervous grin, “Yer, uh...Yer not gonna be the one to tell ‘em, are ya?”
Undyne scoffed, “No, I’m not telling crap to anyone. But you both are coming to my place right now and you’re telling me everything! From start to finish!”
She pointed at Frisk, “Human!”
Frisk flinched fearfully.
Undyne glowered at Frisk, “You better watch yourself, you got me? And don’t try anything shady!”
Frisk quickly nodded, hiding in Sans’ chest.
“Good,” Undyne huffed and went to go retrieve her spear. “Now that we all understand each other, let’s go.”
Watching Undyne walk off, Sans tugged at Frisk lightly and gently pulled him off his now wet chest from the child’s tears.
“Don’t worry kid,” Sans smiles at him, “Undyne acts all tough, but she’s a real softie once ya get ta know her. Just stay close, ‘Kay?”
Frisk nodded, and Sans began following Undyne with Frisk close beside him.
The walk to Undyne’s home was a long and awkwardly silent one, all except for Sans telling Frisk jokes to cheer him up and Frisk’s echoing laughter.
When the trio finally reached their destination, Sans entered with Frisk wrapped in one arm and Undyne scowling at the child’s back before walking in herself and shutting the door behind.
“I forgot what a great place you have Undyne,” Sans remarked. “It’s been a while.”
Undyne didn’t answer, merely sitting down at the table.
“Y’know, this is gonna sound like a weird question, but...do ya happen ta have any...coloring activities for the kid? He probably wants to get his mind off all this for a bit.”
Undyne glared at him, before muttering, “As a matter of fact, I do.”
“Wh-Seriously?” Sans chuckled as Undyne stood up and went to a drawer. “No joke?”
“No,” Undyne snorted, blushing slightly. “I keep some on hand here for Papyrus. Is it really hard to believe that despite his age he still loves doing the most childish things?”
“Nah.” Sans replied fondly. “That’s so sweet of you, Undyne.” He teased.
Undyne turned red as she walked back over with a crayon pack and a few coloring sheets and blank papers, “Sh—Shut your mouth!”
She handed them to Frisk, “Here ya go. Don’t cause trouble.”
“Thank you!” Frisk grinned before going to lay on the floor.
“So, how did you get wrapped up in this mess?” Undyne demanded.
Sans swallowed before beginning his explanation. He told her everything, from when they first met Frisk to taking him to Alphys to having the kid stay with them to all the way up to now. By the time he was done, Undyne looked shocked.
She blinked a few times, slowly, before clearing her throat, “So, uh...Al knows about this too?”
“Yeah, but besides you and Pap she’s the only one who knows about all this. He thought about bringing Frisk to you, they even had a battle. But Paps found out that he didn’t have the heart to do it.” Sans riposted.
Undyne smirked bitterly, “That sounds like Papyrus all right. Wouldn’t harm a fly.”
“Undyne!”
Said monster looked down at her name being called and saw Frisk standing there with a paper in his hand, grin plastered across his face.
Undyne frowned impatiently, “What do ya want, freak?”
Frisk, unfazed, continued to smile and held a colored picture out to her. “Look, I drew you and me together!” Undyne grabbed at it rather roughly and gazed at it. “D-Do you like it?”
The fish monster gaped. Frisk had drawn her and him together, holding hands with big grins plastered upon their faces along with a beautiful scenery full of rainbows and butterflies, and written on the top was a seemingly hopeful message of ‘Friendship!’ scrawled.
Undyne sniffed slightly, blinking back tears. She looked down at a timidly smiling Frisk before letting out a snort of laughter, ruffling his hair.
“Alright, human! I’ll give yer friendship a shot!” She uttered, “But that means you better be at my place next Saturday at eleven sharp for some fun!!”
Frisk gasped happlily, “Yay!” He cheered.
Undyne glanced at Sans, “And don’t worry, ya stupid bonehead, I’ll be sure to keep this between us.” She winked.
Sans beamed in relief, “Yer the coolest, Undyne.”
——————————————————-
In all Papyrus’s life of being Sans’ brother, he had never seen Sans look so exhausted like this morning. Big dark bags underneath the skeleton’s eyes.
In the past few months of knowing the human, he’s never seen Frisk look so stressed out before. Jumping at things as little as shadows and branches crunching.
Being the kind monster he was, his SOUL reached out to both of them.
He wanted so badly to help them.
But he just couldn’t figure out how.
And it made him feel so, so small.
He had a good memory, better than Sans’.
And he couldn’t recall ever feeling so helpless like he does now.
Papyrus nervously sipped some of his water, watching Frisk play with his cereal and Sans stare his oatmeal down like it was his greatest enemy.
He cleared his throat, “S-SO...HOW DID EVERYONE SLEEP LAST NIGHT?”
“Terrible...” Sans muttered, being the only one to reply.
Papyrus cast a concerned glance his way, “NYEH? HOW SO, BROTHER?”
“I just...” Sans clenched and unclenched his fists, and it made Frisk’s stomach do flips. “I can’t sleep. No matter how I try...those images keep coming back...I just...I don’t know how much longer I can do this...”
Sans shoved his head in his hands, and Papyrus reached out and squeezed his arm with a sad expression.
Guilt filled Frisk’s SOUL and he chewed his lip, sighing shakily.
He did this. To Sans. To Papyrus. He absolutely hated himself.
“AND HOW ARE YOU, HUMAN?” Papyrus asked.
Frisk snapped out of his daze, and after a few moments muttered, “Not much better...” he paused, “Look, Papyrus...Sans....”
Papyrus looked at him and Sans raised his head up to gaze at the small child.
“I appreciate what you all are trying to do for me...really, I do...and I’m sorry, but...this is just too dangerous for you guys...”
His eyes narrowed as he bit out, “Chara is too dangerous for you guys...”
Dread filled Papyrus’s soul and he choked out, “WH—WHAT ARE YOU SAYING, HUMAN?”
Sans’ expression, which was initially shocked, hardened and before Frisk got to answer he stood up, slamming his fist on the table and startling both his brother and Frisk.
“Damn it, Frisk! I thought I made myself clear!” He snapped angrily. “You are not taking on that psychopath! Not alone!!”
Frisk quickly stood up as well after a minute of silence, glaring back at Sans and leaving Papyrus to helplessly watch the unfolding argument in front of him with a scared expression.
“But I have to, Sans!” Frisk snapped in return. “I need to! You don’t get it! You don’t know Chara like I do!! She’ll chop your head off without a second thought!”
“BROTHER, HUMAN, PLEASE—“
“What, and she won’t do the same to you!?” Sans barked, laughing humorlessly. “Kid, you’re funny! You just got done killing yourself, repeatedly and you seriously think I’m gonna let you out of my sights, let alone fight an insane child killer?! I said no, Frisk!”
“And I say yes!” Frisk challenged, “Sans, I can do this! Please, just let me prove it to you!”
“Frisk—“ Sans warned in a low growl.
“I don’t get it!” Frisk gasped, feeling rising tears. “Why won’t you trust me!?”
This one comment caused Sans to finally explode.
“FINE!” He screamed, finally silencing Frisk. “YA WANNA KNOW WHY I DON’T TRUST YA!? YA REALLY WANNA KNOW THAT BAD?! WELL HERE IT IS! BECAUSE YOU PUT ME THROUGH HELL, FRISK! YOU PUT ALL OF US THROUGH HELL! THROUGH ONE HUNDRED TO THREE FUCKING HUNDRED GODDAMN RESETS WHERE YOU KILLED EVERY SINGLE FUCKING PERSON IN THE UNDERGROUND, INCLUDING PAP AND ME! AND OH NO, YOU WEREN’T DONE THERE, WERE YA!? YA JUST HAD TO ADD THE ICING TO THE CAKE BY FUCKING KILLING YOURSELF AND SCARING THE SHIT OUTTA ALL OF US! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW TERRIFYING IT WAS?! NO, BECAUSE YOU WERE SELFISH AND YOU WERE ONLY THINKING ABOUT YOURSELF! NO COMPASSION! BIG SURPRISE THERE!! YOU SERIOUSLY THINK THAT I’M GOING TO TRUST YOU AFTER ALL YOU’VE DONE?! I SACRIFICED SO MUCH FOR YOU, AND THAT’S HOW YOU REPAY ME! REPAY US! I MADE THE MISTAKE OF PUTTING ALL MY CONFIDENCE INTO A RECKLESS FOOL OF A KID LIKE YOU ONCE, AND LOOK WHERE IT GOT ME! I AM NEVER DOING THAT AGAIN! NOW YOU EITHER GO WITH YOUR PLAN OR YOU’RE NOT PART OF IT AT ALL!”
By the end of Sans’ rant, he was panting slightly, glaring at Frisk who now had his head bowed.
“SANS...” Papyrus whimpered softly.
Frisk gradually looked up at Sans, frustrated tears burning in his eyes. “....I hate you...” he muttered tearfully.
Papyrus gazed at the child, baffled by his comment. He glanced at his brother anxiously, who shared his expression of surprise before it quickly twisted into a hard look that made his non-existent stomach churn in fear.
A look that Papyrus hasn’t seen Sans wear in a very, very long time. And yet it still chilled him to the bone.
Sans straightened and snorted. “Yeah, well,” he uttered. “I’m not yer biggest fan right now either, kid. If ya really hate me after all I’ve done for ya, maybe ya should just leave!”
“Maybe I will!” Frisk growled at the skeleton before shoving past him and stomping up the stairs. “I wish I never met you, Sans!”
“Yeah?!” Sans called after him. “I wish I never made that promise for ya!”
Frisk froze in his tracks, halfway up the stairs when the comment hit him. The boy swallowed a sob and blinked back fresh tears, completing his trip up the stairs and made his way to his room, slamming the door behind him.
“BROTHER, HONESTLY,” Papyrus chided, turning to the shorter skeleton with a sad expression, “THAT WAS WAY TOO FAR. YOU TWO WERE MUCH TOO HARD ON ONE ANOTHER.”
“He asked for it, Paps.” Sans stated in return. “‘Sides, I meant every word. That kid has no idea what I sacrificed for him.” He glared at the younger. “I didn’t have ta make that promise. If I could go back, I’d change my choice in a heartbeat and not be such a spineless moron.”
Pap gave him an incredulous look, “TO BE HONEST, I SINCERELY DOUBT THAT.” He uttered.
Sans rolled his eyes, “Whatever. I don’t.” He turned to walk away. “Wake me when it’s mornin’, Paps.”
He teleported away without another word.
