So I just finished watching Loki (I know I'm late to the party) and there is just something ironic about the fact that it's established in Thor 1 and DW that Loki is apparently one of the few people who know how to travel the nine worlds through small ways between worlds aka the branches of yggdrasil and then he becomes the world/time tree at the end of season 2.

Unreliably narrated fic where Thor’s POV constantly refers to Loki as smaller/shorter/weaker/delicate/feminine/younger and everyone else’s POV (including Loki) is “these are two normal and similarly-sized guys”

Facebook user Kai Steele posted this in the SWC group; the Maul in the background was apparently an unexpected surprise. 😂😂😅

I'm not a very optimistic person, but I feel like I'm decently hopeful. If you're wondering how those two things can coexist, well... I just sort of figured that out myself. You see, I'm incredibly pessimistic. I'm always complaining, almost always angry or sad or stressed out about something (seriously, for being 19, my stress level is probably pretty bad some days). But I'm also someone who hates sadness. I hate sad movies, I hate death in fiction and tragic stories. I want stories that'll make me happy; ones that'll make me feel some hope and escapism.
That's why I like characters like Superman, I think. I might be sad and angry and miserable most of the time, but I'm never someone who enjoys darkness and edgy stories. I'm actually still scared of total darkness, honestly. I can't sleep without a tv on and some light and quiet noise coming from it. I'm neurotic, nervous, shy and lonely and extremely temperamental. A character like Superman is precisely what I need to feel better about myself. He's like an embodiment of what I need to feel better. Hope, happiness, the common and universal good of helping people. He's a light. And since I'm not that optimistic, I guess his hopeful nature just appeals to me.
In a way, it's like opposites. I'm not optimistic, so you'd think I'd like Batman more. And while Batman's slightly relatable to me, albeit for some of the wrong reasons (like his severe paranoia and loneliness and clear signs of never fully recovering from a tragedy he suffered early in life), he's relatable in ways that make me feel worse. He reminds me of some of my worse attributes, and of my many mood issues. Whereas Superman is encouraging, and his presence helps take that feeling of depression away. His colour scheme is even perfect. The blue of a beautiful afternoon sky... it's perfect.

the funniest thing about smallville is the fact that they basically took your typical lighthearted #thepoweroflove superman story and put a succession character in there. like lex is out here trying to escape the Cycles and suffering under the thumb of his abusive father while clark is like man i wish my dad would let me play football :/ like i love smallville clark, he's one of my favorite guys of all time, but he is incapable of understanding why lex is the way he is, not only because he grew up with a family that loved and cared for him but because he is living inside a completely different genre. he's out here saving people, making the world a better place through goodness and compassion, while lex is sitting inside his million dollar estate on his fourth glass of bourbon talking about how he doesn't know how to love people because he was raised in a business instead of a family. and both of these are very good and interesting stories, but they are so fundamentally different that i think the show struggles to reconcile them at times, which is why you have scenes where clark is like "well lex you should've just tried harder with your dad because love and family conquers all in the end" while lex is just sitting there looking at him like he's insane.

Skip Google for Research
As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse.  It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable.  As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
Google is so powerful that it “hides” other search systems from us. We just don’t know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free

One Thing I absolutely love about fandom in general is just the urge to share fanfic recommendations and/or ideas.
It doesn't matter which Fandom it is, there can be a practical civil war about ships or diatribes of how the canon works or whatever.
If someone asks for a specific concept for a fic there is always someone, who whips out at least one fanfic with that exact thing and probably two different ones with a similar premise.
And in the unlikely case that doesn't happen there is gonna be another person who is like "Give me a second" and just writes the damn thing because the post inspired them.
Anyway I just think it's neat.

A shout out to all the writers out there who don’t make the rec lists or have all the buzz or get all the traffic and attention or kudos. Your work is still valuable and appreciated and loved, and without you and your fics, fandom would be so much poorer.
Keep on writing and creating and sharing your works. You have an audience who loves you.

So I was thinking about how ATLA inverted the favored sibling trope -if u can call it a trope-. Like usually in fiction, it's the older sibling that is the favorite and the younger one is kind of the underdog. And then I realized that they didn't only invert it they also subtly executed the classic version of it. It's never said explicitly but in the one scene, where we see Ozai and Azulon interact with each other, it is abundantly clear that Azulon favors Iroh - his older son- and completely dismisses Ozai. Ozai is the one lacking, Ozai can't do anything right in his father's eyes.
And now we go one generation further, Ozai is now an admittedly terrible father to two children. Zuko and Azula, and who does he favor?!
THE YOUNGER ONE
AZULA
Of course he does, Ozai heavily projects on both of his kids. He goes the extreme other way and puts the same abusive pattern on his own children, just reversed.
- Iroh himself btw never has the opportunity to develop that pattern, first of all because he only had one child, and second of all because he was the one who got the at least somewhat "healthier" dynamic with his father and probably his mother, if we go with the theory that Ilah died in childbirth.-
Because he sees the exceptional prodigy of Azula as himself, the second child, who in his narcissism is the better option. Who he can form to be the perfect successor of his legacy.
And in that way of thinking he treats Zuko, his older child with the same neglect and dismissal as he was treated as a child. He himself does not realise it, but he creates in that way in Zuko a kind of distorted mirror image of himself.
With one difference. Zuko has his mother and his uncle to teach him compassion. Not only that but Zuko himself is someone who as a person has a strict honor code he follows. (See 41st division).
Zuko is with that in mind, not just a reflection of Ozai but also a WEAK reflection from his perspective.
Which puts us back to the reason of, why he burned the face.
So in conclusion did ATLA not only invert a trope, it also used it to develop a unhealthy family dynamic and create a realistic picture of the cycle of generational trauma.
