The central government should stop using the pandemic panic to witch-hunt minorities: SSF

The SSF national Secretariat has expressed concerns that the arrest of student activists have been dubiously timed and rather resembles political vendetta. The selective arrest of student leaders who expressed democratic dissent at the face of the discriminating and divisive making of Citizenship Amendment Laws is unacceptable at every ground. The motive to falsely incriminate students of the genocidal riots that was driven by the legislators in power are ill-fitting. Democratic engagements of citizens who have formerly decorated government offices have been charged of sedition in further politically desperate moves. Such efforts only buy into the insecurities and jerry-built of minorities. The government is responsible to approach democratic dissent in rather compassionate ways. The constitution has clearly imbued us with the fundamental rights to dissent and protest. As the nation fights a deadly pandemic, the government is putting the panic to political misuse. It stays unjustly as the government slaps UAPA charges and imprison student activists bending even elementary humanitarian concerns. At a time when the number of arrests are consciously brought down in favour of social distancing and minimal communication, the selective detentions strikes shockingly. The secretariat further went to urge that the government shed it's passivity towards the widespread hate campaigns, abstain from the political vendetta it has been trying to inflict under the garb of lockdown and the perpetrators be brought to justice.
