Working on a Tomoe Gozen (the badass female samurai warrior of the late twelfth century) piece with the idea of making shirts out of the final design. These are just rough concepts, but before I take it further, I need help to decide whether to have her on horseback, holding a decapitated head, just posing, charging, or standing firm against a horde of warriors, or anything else that might be pretty kickass, really. For the horde idea, the Tomoe design is totally interchangeable with the previously mentioned concepts. For instance, we can have her charging toward the horde on foot or riding toward them on horseback or standing in front of them waiting to draw her sword... Stopped by briefly this morning to see my Long Beach folks--DG Boxing and Long Beach Kickboxing (unfortunately I missed my bjj peeps at CSULB this week). Just want to keep them posted, inform them of my fight, tell them I've been training with the MMA team in Oceanside (as I'm happily representing Team Compound now). Unfailingly, they respond with an amount of sweetness that is so moving... In all my years of training combat sports, it's rare that I don't meet people that are so warm, positive and caring. There's the incredible sense of unity that tickles the heart strings. It truly is family. Thanks to them--my coaches, my training partners, ultimately, my dog sisters and brothers!--for growing with me and seeing me through my journey. But to the point now: I finally have the tickets to the fight on Dec 11 at Sycuan Casino! Pretty exciting. I remember as a kid my stepfather giving me a Gladiator Challenge sticker. At the time I didn't know what it was, let alone that I'd be fighting for them as an adult! Madness. Sweet madness.
