During the minute it takes me to compose this sentence, thousands of animals are being eaten alive; others are running for their lives, whimpering with fear; others are being slowly devoured from within by rasping parasites; thousands of all kinds are dying of starvation, thirst and disease. [...] In a universe of blind physical forces and genetic replication, some people are going to get hurt, other people are going to get lucky, and you won't find any rhyme or reason in it, nor any justice. The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil and no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference. DNA neither knows nor cares. DNA just is. And we dance to its music. —— @richard_dawkins #riveroutofeden https://www.instagram.com/p/BtwP4fPnXcQ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=bh80llyfqyv9

#richarddawkins #riveroutofeden 👈🧠👁📖 ________________________ Why my teacher didn't send me to the bookstore in 1995 to grab this book and learn what is really with me and why I am here? Dawkins seems clever, but not erudite, because he is permanently inhabited by a Schadenfreude, a cruel smile towards those who are ruled by superstitions and dogma. No wonder he is ferociously condemned for his self-sufficient arrogance. We are the followers of winners in natural selection. The uninterrupted flow of life has brought us here: „Not a single one of our ancestors was felled by an enemy, or by a virus, or by a misjudged footstep on a cliff edge, before bringing at least one child into the world.” The idea of evolution through DNA replication inspired R.D. to find a metaphor for Darwinian theory: a river of genes, that is, after all, a digital River, has borne our inheritance on its waves until nowadays. Evolution is imagined as a river in which genes interfere within a species. Sometimes the river breaks in its arms, like a delta, giving birth to a new species. Then there are examples of complex mechanisms (e.g. the eye) and the simple way in which these appeared and were passed on to the next generations. _____________________ #books #science #genes #eden #atheism #nature #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #instabook #instareads #igreads #epicreads #booklife #biblio #bibliophile #read #goodreads #newbook #goodbook #reviewbook #mybooks #throughmyglasses #bookreview #review #elisium #snapabook #2019books https://www.instagram.com/p/BtwPBhAnIyd/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=esf5tkkwv1pc

#Mopete ______________________ mopete in his inmost self one night, mopete settled himself at his ease in a chair by the fireside to read the news in the evening gazette - behind him, mounting to the attic, the stairs creaked when the firelight flared and bit off part of a step. the room rustled more when mopete turned another page to read what was written about one thing or another. from time to time he'd note a good idea on his cuff, later to rewrite it, before going to sleep, on the wall above his bed. the table beside him held a bottle and two glasses (he had expected his good friend that evening - but he hadn't come). hovering over the entire scene, peace and quiet pleasure. the level in the bottle fell a few fingers at a time, in steady measure. #2019books #elisium #snapabook #gabrielliiceanu #mirceaivanescu https://www.instagram.com/p/BtMODi1nNue/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1nz50u7fmhmfz

The Author in His Own Words ___________________________ Deceptively self-contained, gently ironic and stylishly parodic, Mircea Ivănescu's poetry is a source of intrigue and fascination. A noted translator of English and German literature including James Joyce's monumental text Ulysses and works by Franz Kafka and William Faulkner, Ivănescu is regarded as one of Romania's most important contemporary writers. source: amazon.co.uk ________________________ #romanianpoetry #mirceaivanescu #elisium #snapabook #books #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #instabook #instareads #igreads #epicreads #booklife #biblio #bibliophile #read #goodreads https://www.instagram.com/p/BtMNQT5nBnE/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1l3dtios069by

Gabriel Liiceanu in dialog cu Mircea Ivănescu _______________________ #mirceaivanescu #poetry #romanianpoetry is poetry different? you mustn't tell stories in poetry - i read this advice to a young poet - so i won't tell how she'd awaken very early in the morning and, sitting up in bed, wait to catch her breath, her face hidden in her hands - i won't say anything about her weary look that made her shoulders droop before the mirror, when slowly she combed her hair. i won't confess my fears beside her estranged face, turned away from me. i won't walk anywhere with my lines in my hands as if holding a mirror to reflect those mornings with their pale grey light moments before dawn. poetry - so it's written - mustn't be representation, a succession of images. poetry must be inward speech. thus, should i be speaking again about her drowned face, her gasps for breath? but that would be only my way of speaking about her face, about her freeze-frame movements fixed between layers of turbid regret, of thoughts solely mine, about her image - it would be only a mask, an image - while she - her true self, what about that? #snapabook #elisium https://www.instagram.com/p/BtMMvWxHcHl/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=16v7g8jhj6msg

Noodles Story 🍜 ___________________________ If you ask a local what you should eat while you’re in Yunnan, a vast province in China’s South West, the first thing they’ll say is guoqiao mixian, the literal translation: 'Crossing the Bridge Noodles’. The story of these beloved noodles begins with a couple who lived by the waters of a beautiful lake, known to attract scholars from across the country who yearn to strike wisdom among its peaceful beauty. In the centre of the lake was an island, where the husband studied madly every day away from his home. His wife, the heroine of this tale, grows frustrated that the long journey over the bridge to provide her hubby with a home-cooked meal always leaves her lovingly prepared noodles cold, soggy and uneaten. Taking pride in her food, she comes up with an ingenious, if not laborious, plan: she fills a clay pot with the broth and layers a slick of oil on top to insulate the soup. The noodles and each of the remaining ingredients were kept in their own separate containers so the husband could mix the steaming soup together himself. It was brilliant. (...) While the Crossing the Bridge story may be a fictional tale, the message is an important one throughout China. At the end of the couple’s story, the husband becomes a revered Imperial scholar, reaching his goal with the support of his loving wife. Sure, the relationship dynamic may be a tad on the traditional side, but the story itself represents how affection and endearment, as well as diligence and hard work, is the path to excellence. Some use food simply for nourishment, some eat for pleasure and some eat for pain; I found the Chinese often take their food with a healthy side of morality. Such virtuosity and wisdom, such honour and inspiration – all this from a bowl of noodles. “You can set a course and be determined to stick with it, and some people do. You can also be blown off course by circumstances that you hadn’t planned on at all. Some people founder for a while and some do sink. Equally, you may arrive on unexpected shores that prove to be far more interesting than the destination you had in mind. Then you meet new people and have new experiences; you influence them and they affect you and together you change the story of one another’s lives. This is especially true when you follow your true talents and passions.” Sir Ken Robinson - Finding your Element _______________________ #elisium #snapabook #education #sirkenrobinsonquotes https://www.instagram.com/p/BtAxbf9HaiR/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=cvjbsmo44qxz

#sirkenrobinson #findingyourelement 👈📚📖 ______________________ I liked Ken Robinson's conquering personality ever since I discovered him on YouTube. He's a kind of teacher that any parent would want for his child. He's passionate about research into non-formal education. His books appear to be that boring kind of self-help-development books but only at first glance. At a deeper level, Sir Ken reveals a wisdom of inexhaustible force. "Finding your Element" is almost a conversational but practical handbook in which he presented himself in the same sincere and benevolent manner as he speaks. It shows us the pathways through which we can find professionally behavior patterns designed to help in finding career happiness. THE ELEMENT = HAPPINESS. It's useful if you accept the game, useless if you're lazy to go through the proposed exercises, with sometimes uncomfortable questions. What does it mean to be in your element? To do something that seems so natural to you that you have the feeling that you really are that thing. By revealing how passions connect with attitudes we can find out which is that thing that motivates us in life and what we can do to make it easier for us to access it. We need time and space for a real disconnection to help us gradually dive into inner self and 'discover ourselves'. "Discovering your Element is vital in order to understand who you are and what you're capable to be and to do in your life." He criticizes the universal education system that emphasizes the results of standardized tests that ridicules children's artistic talents. The goal is to be happy with what you are. Your way is unique, you can find out where it starts, not where it ends. If you really want to define a goal according to your passions and the potential that they involve, then this book can be a guide in this direction. Passion is more important than talent. Passion can fuel the energy of doing things that become a goal of your life. Action on the Self is the stated purpose of this book. You got nothing to change to you? The book is not for you. ________ #findingyourelementkenrobinson #sirkenrobinsonquotes #throughmyglasses #bookreview #elisium #snapabook https://www.instagram.com/p/BtAwmkgnJFq/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1d6lzt4sbl72y

#cioran #conversations #Conversaciones #emilcioran #emilmichelcioran ................💡............... Cioran, a man who claims to be a great shy guy, still accepts to confess himself to a few people in his lifetime. In the conversations, you can't fight against him: Cioran is irresistible. His thoughts, impregnated by all the questions to which he has found answers along the harsh intervals of night boredom, are scattered in the book with the utmost precision. He speaks with passion about itself. He is the focus of all questions with / without answer. And he speaks so expressively about himself because all his life he contemplate endlessly the mirror of his own thinking. „Although I have gloomy opinions about life, I have always been passionate about existence. This passion was so great that it has been turned into a denial of life, not having the means to quench my appetite for life.” The interview given to Verena van der Heyden-Rynsch on Empress Sissi is a remarkable essay on melancholy. Cioran speaks brilliantly about a woman he admires much because he seems to understand her entirely. Philosophizing on Elizabeth, he reveals himself. By questioning someone else's thought, you put yourself in the question. _______________________ #throughmyglasses #bookreview #review #elisium #snapabook #2018books #philosophy #existentialism #nihilism #wisdom #stoic https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs2sW7gHspo/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=130itpbf8as47
