If you’re in line to vote, stay in line!
You will be allowed to vote. Your vote will be counted.
These lines are no joke: Reportedly, additional voting machines were brought to college campuses in Pennsylvania “to accommodate the huge student turnout.”
I think turnout is going to be through the roof.

❗️Nevada voters - this is going to sound weird, but PICK UP YOUR PHONE if an unknown number calls.
**Lots of signatures on ballots are not matching and your ballot may need to be fixed.
TLDR; yes, signature matching is an antiquated way to verify ballots but it is still being used. Reportedly thousands of ballots here need to be cured. Answer the phone!

last minute voter registration
for those Americans who maybe haven't been motivated or convinced or paying attention until now, several states do allow for you to register to vote on Election Day:
California - which has several important House races this year that will help decide control of the House, so don't assume your vote is irrelevant
Colorado - same as above, on a smaller scale
Iowa - there is a post going around about Iowa being traditionally solid red, which is inaccurate. Iowa often votes for Democratic presidential candidates. Iowa voted for Obama twice. and right now women in Iowa are furious about the abortion ban. don't count it out.
Maryland - there is an important senate race going on! which you know if you live there. you probably dream in campaign ads by this point.
Michigan - i am sorry for the political ads in your dreams, it will all be over soon. but. yeah. you can still register to vote. this is one of those places where our fucked-up system means your vote really does matter, like, a lot.
Montana - an important senate race AND an abortion protection ballot initiative! your vote will have a massively outsized impact. our system is fucked but it means you can go mad with power this year.
Nevada - important senate race. and another place where the ads have infiltrated your dreams. i personally have probably texted you several times. yes that was me. hello. sorrynotsorry. but you can still register and vote.
Wisconsin - sorrynotsorry i know you know there is an election going on. but! you can still register and vote!
other states that allow Election Day registration:
Connecticut , DC, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming.
and North Dakota (which is actually a real place) (i promise) doesn't require voter registration at all, because only thirty people live there and some of them might be cows in trench coats. if you are one of them you can go vote.
don't trust me, i might have gotten something wrong. i wrote this up pretty quickly. please check vote.org to see if you can still register and vote!
i promise i will go back to never talking about politics after this week.

They weren’t lying, framing voting as an opportunity to cancel out the vote of one personal reactionary enemy of your choosing in order to prevent people like them from seizing the levels of power as opposed to a personal value judgement slash complete and total sanction of every action of an administration does feel good as hell
#politics#u.s. politics#voting#possibly this is why i've always been so enthusiastic about voting#because i know my parents' neighbors would hate everything i vote for#when i see them i think#you have no idea how many times i've contributed to raising your taxes#i have done this with an evil laugh#specifically imagining your expressions while doing so

Pulling this out of my ask answer because it deserves its own post:
The ACLU Election Protection Hotline is 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683)
If you encounter problems at the polls, are disqualified on a technicality, challenged by MAGAts, otherwise intimidated or disenfranchised in any way: CALL THEM. That is what they are there for.
If you are in this list of counties, the Department of Justice has civil rights attorneys/compliance personnel on site. Otherwise, no matter where you are in the country, you can call:
Department of Justice Civil Rights/Election Division is 800-253-3931.
As I said: election suppression works by people being too afraid or uncertain to challenge when told they are ineligible. Know your rights and resources. Insist if nothing else on your right to cast a provisional ballot. Stay in line -- if you are in line when the polls close, you have the right to cast your ballot.
VOTE!
#politics#u.s. politics#voting time#if shenanigans occur!#the ACLU would love to hear about it so that they can Lawyer Attack that#let them live#they're like marathoners who have been training for ages for this exact thing

Wife got me watching Heaven Official's Blessing anime and I regret to inform you that I adore these two fools on sight. Mister "ohohoho I am just a merchant's son and definitely not a demon lord" and mister "pay me no mind I am but a humble priest of an unpopular god" you two are ridiculous. Please kiss.
I painted them last year sight unseen, so I thought I'd try my hand again this year with more accurate vibes.

idk if people on tumblr know about this but a cybersecurity software called crowdstrike just did what is probably the single biggest fuck up in any sector in the past 10 years. it's monumentally bad. literally the most horror-inducing nightmare scenario for a tech company.
some info, crowdstrike is essentially an antivirus software for enterprises. which means normal laypeople cant really get it, they're for businesses and organisations and important stuff.
so, on a friday evening (it of course wasnt friday everywhere but it was friday evening in oceania which is where it first started causing damage due to europe and na being asleep), crowdstrike pushed out an update to their windows users that caused a bug.
before i get into what the bug is, know that friday evening is the worst possible time to do this because people are going home. the weekend is starting. offices dont have people in them. this is just one of many perfectly placed failures in the rube goldburg machine of crowdstrike. there's a reason friday is called 'dont push to live friday' or more to the point 'dont fuck it up friday'
so, at 3pm at friday, an update comes rolling into crowdstrike users which is automatically implemented. this update immediately causes the computer to blue screen of death. very very bad. but it's not simply a 'you need to restart' crash, because the computer then gets stuck into a boot loop.
this is the worst possible thing because, in a boot loop state, a computer is never really able to get to a point where it can do anything. like download a fix. so there is nothing crowdstrike can do to remedy this death update anymore. it is now left to the end users.
it was pretty quickly identified what the problem was. you had to boot it in safe mode, and a very small file needed to be deleted. or you could just rename crowdstrike to something else so windows never attempts to use it.
it's a fairly easy fix in the grand scheme of things, but the issue is that it is effecting enterprises. which can have a looooot of computers. in many different locations. so an IT person would need to manually fix hundreds of computers, sometimes in whole other cities and perhaps even other countries if theyre big enough.
another fuck up crowdstrike did was they did not stagger the update, so they could catch any mistakes before they wrecked havoc. (and also how how HOW do you not catch this before deploying it. this isn't a code oopsie this is a complete failure of quality ensurance that probably permeates the whole company to not realise their update was an instant kill). they rolled it out to everyone of their clients in the world at the same time.
and this seems pretty hilarious on the surface. i was havin a good chuckle as eftpos went down in the store i was working at, chaos was definitely ensuring lmao. im in aus, and banking was literally down nationwide.
but then you start hearing about the entire country's planes being grounded because the airport's computers are bricked. and hospitals having no computers anymore. emergency call centres crashing. and you realised that, wow. crowdstrike just killed people probably. this is literally the worst thing possible for a company like this to do.
crowdstrike was kinda on the come up too, they were starting to become a big name in the tech world as a new face. but that has definitely vanished now. to fuck up at this many places, is almost extremely impressive. its hard to even think of a comparable fuckup.
a friday evening simultaneous rollout boot loop is a phrase that haunts IT people in their darkest hours. it's the monster that drags people down into the swamp. it's the big bag in the horror movie. it's the end of the road. and for crowdstrike, that reaper of souls just knocked on their doorstep.
